Ukrainian PM doubles down on Russia strike on gov’t office claim despite evidence

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko and several Ukrainian media outlets have reported that a fire in the building was caused by a downed drone

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko has accused Russia of striking a government office in central Kiev, posting a video from inside a damaged corridor.However, reports by Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko and Ukrainian media suggested that the blaze was sparked by debris from a downed drone, not a direct hit.

In the video posted to social media on Sunday, Sviridenko said“you can see the consequences of the attack” while standing in a corridor with some scattered debris.

She also claimed that the fire caused by the attack covered 800 square meters.No clearly visible signs of any major blaze can be seen in the video except for what appears to be a burnt roof.

Klitschko stated earlier on Telegram that a government office caught fire after Ukrainian air defenses brought down a drone. Several local media outlets, including TSN and Focus, also reported that the fire was caused by wreckage from the intercepted UAV.l

TheRussian Defense Ministrystated on Sunday that the nation’smilitary had targeted two military industrial facilitieson the outskirts of Kiev in an overnight strike.

It denied striking the government office.

Sviridenko used the incident to accuse Moscow of “not seeking peace” and urged Kiev’s Western backers to “help close our sky” and “strengthen sanctions against Russia.” She also published a photo of herself standing inside a severely damaged building, claiming it to be the government office.

Photos released by theUkrainian emergency services on social media only showed fire and smoke coming out of several windowson the upper floor of the government building,with no visible damage to its walls or roof.

This is not the first time Ukrainian officials have pointed the finger at Russia for damage causedeither by a shot-down projectile or Ukraine's own air-defenses. Such incidents in the past have set residential buildings and infrastructure ablaze, raising questions over Kiev’s placement of anti-air systems close to civilian areas.

Moscow maintains that it never targets civilians, only Kiev’s defense industry and military-related facilities.

Ukrainian drone attack injures six in public park (VIDEO)

Kiev’s forces struck Russia’s Donetsk on Sunday

A Ukrainian kamikaze drone struck a park in Russia’s Donetsk on Sunday, injuring six people, including a teenage girl, according to regional authorities.

Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said the UAV hit the Gulliver park in the western part of the city, an area that has often come under shelling during the conflict.

He added that Kiev’s forces carried out 15 “armed attacks” on Donetsk and the nearby town of Makeevka, using 155mm artillery and drones.

Footage from RT’s Murad Gazdiev, filmed shortly after the strike, shows debris, blood stains on the pavement, and benches damaged by shrapnel.

Government lawyers reportedly believed the ex-president failed to properly vet the criminals whose sentences he commuted

Former US President Joe Biden’s own officials objected to how his team handled the sweeping pardons issued shortly before he left office, Axios reported on Sunday, citing internal emails and people familiar with the matter.

Biden faced widespread criticism for granting clemency to his son Hunter, despite pledging not to do so. Hunter Biden had previously pleaded guilty to tax evasion and gun violations.

“There was a mad dash to find groups of people that he could then pardon – and they largely didn’t run it by the Justice Department to vet them,” a source told Axios.

Many of the pardons were signed with an autopen, a device that replicates the president’s signature. The move was reportedly authorized by Biden’s chief of staff, Jeff Zients, with his aide Rosa Po frequently sending the authorizations by email.

Bradley Weinsheimer, a senior ethics attorney at the Justice Department, wrote a scathing memo in January, a day after Biden freed thousands of criminals he described as non-violent drug offenders,Axios said. Weinsheimer argued that Biden’s statement was “untrue, or at least misleading,” and provided a list of violent offenders released as a result.

In January, White House staff secretary Stef Feldmanreportedly questioned the use of the autopen, asking: “When did we get [Biden’s] approval of this?”

Biden later insisted he had made “every decision” himself and claimed the autopen was needed to process a large number of documents. However, records indicate he only had to sign “a few documents for every large group of people he granted clemency,” according to Axios.

Biden ultimately pardoned 4,245 people, with more than 95% of those decisions made in the final months of his presidency, the outlet said. The former president argued at the time that the prosecution of his son was politically motivated.

Messaging apps are “absolutely transparent” to intelligence agencies and security services, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. People who use them to share sensitive information should be aware of the risks, he added.

“All messengers are absolutely transparent systems, and people who use them should understand that they are transparent…. to the security services,” Peskov told journalists on Friday at the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Vladivostok.

He added it was particularly important to consider the risks when sensitive government or commercial data are shared through such apps, which can be accessed by foreign intelligence services.

The official was commenting on Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia, as well as on the Russian government’s support for developing a domestic messaging platform.

Russian security services have accused Telegram and WhatsApp of using double standards for refusing to share data with the Russian authoritiesabout fraud and terror plots while complying with similar requests from other countries.

Back in July, a member of the State Duma’s committee on information policy and technology, Anton Nemkin, called WhatsApp’s continued presence in Russia a “legalized breach of national security.”

Russian law enforcement officials have said that Ukrainian intelligence, along with other malicious actors such as swindlers and con artists, often relies on databases containing personal data obtained through WhatsApp and Telegram to recruit agents or identify targets inside Russia.

In December 2024, the US government also warned senior officials to switch to encrypted communications after a security breach in which a group of hackers stole data, including information stored under US government surveillance protocols as part of “legal” wiretapping of American suspects.

==Russian cancer vaccine ‘ready for use’ – health official=

The breakthrough drug reduced tumor size and growth by up to 80% in early testing, according to Veronika Skvortsova

Russia’s newly developed cancer vaccine has shown high effectiveness in preclinical trials and is ready for rollout, according to Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency.

The breakthrough drug is awaiting approval from the Russian Health Ministry.

The vaccine showed excellent results in three years of preclinical trials, the official told Izvestia on Friday on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

“The [trials] have proven the safety of the vaccine, including its repeated use, as well as its high efficiency, which was associated with a reduction in tumor size and a slowdown in tumor growth,”Skvortsova said. She added that in some cancers, the effect reached 60-80%. “Studies have shown an increase in survival, which is also very important.”

“We submitted documents to the Ministry of Health to obtain permission for clinical use” at the end of summer, the official added.

The vaccine is ready for use, we are waiting for permission.

The initial launch is planned for colorectal cancer, with jabs for glioblastoma and melanoma to follow, she added.

According to its developer, the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, the drug is an mRNA-based vaccine that uses AI to train the patient’s immune system to attack cancer cells.

Institute head Alexander Gintsburg saidearlier that the vaccine is subject to a unique regulatory framework due to its nature. “This is a fundamentally different process from the registration of standard drugs,” he noted last month.

The institute also developed Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccineand is currently working on an HIV vaccine using the same mRNA technology.

Thousands of Orthodox Christians took part in a large procession on Sunday celebrating the Council of Moscow Saints, a Russian Orthodox Church feast honoring the saints of Moscow. The event marks the revival of a tradition that was discontinued after the Russian Revolution in 1917.

The march was led by Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, and joined by clergy from the Moscow diocese, monastic communities, and lay believers. Organizers estimated that about 40,000 people took part.

Microsoft announced via a status website that the Mideast “may experience increased latency due to undersea fiber cuts in the Red Sea.” The Redmond, Washington-based firm did not immediately elaborate, though it said that internet traffic not moving through the Middle East “is not impacted.”

NetBlocks, which monitors internet access, said “a series of subsea cable outages in the Red Sea has degraded internet connectivity in multiple countries,” which it said included India and Pakistan. It blamed “failures affecting the SMW4 and IMEWE cable systems near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.”

The South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 cable is run by Tata Communications, part of the Indian conglomerate. The India-Middle East-Western Europe cable is run by another consortium overseen by Alcatel-Lucent. Neither firm did not immediately responded to requests for comment.

Pakistan Telecommunications Co. Ltd., a telecommunication giant in that country, noted that the cuts had taken place in a statement on Saturday.

Postal traffic into the United States plunged by more than 80 percent after the Trump administration ended a tariff exemption for low-cost imports, the United Nations postal agency said Saturday.

The Universal Postal Union says it has started rolling out new measures that can help postal operators around the world calculate and collect duties, or taxes, after the U.S. eliminated the so-called "de minimis exemption” for lower-value parcels.

Eighty-eight postal operators have told the UPU that they have suspended some or all postal services to the United States until a solution is implemented with regard to U.S.-bound parcels valued at $800 or less, which had been the cutoff for imported goods to escape customs charges.

“The global network saw postal traffic to the U.S. come to a near-halt after the implementation of the new rules on Aug. 29, 2025, which for the first time placed the burden of customs duty collection and remittance on transportation carriers or U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency-approved qualified parties,” the UPU said in a statement.

The UPU said information exchanged between postal operators through its electronic network showed traffic from its 192 member countries — nearly all the world countries — had fallen 81 percent on Aug. 29, compared to a week earlier.

The Bern, Switzerland-based agency said the “major operational disruptions” have occurred because airlines and other carriers indicated they weren't willing or able to collect such duties, and foreign postal operators had not established a link to CBP-qualified companies.

Before the measure took effect, the postal union sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to express concerns about its impact.

The de minimis exemption has existed in some form since 1938, and the administration says the exemption has become a loophole that foreign businesses exploit to evade tariffs and criminals use to get drugs into the U.S.
