GALVESTON: "The airplane carrying eight people that crashed into West Galveston Bay on Monday afternoon was a Mexican military medical flight approaching Scholes International Airport in heavy fog, a city official said. The downed flight was carrying two pilots and six passengers including a pediatric patient in need of burn care likely at Shriner’s Children in Galveston, which specializes in such treatments. It was tracked from General Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Monterrey, Mexico, to Scholes International Airport at Galveston on Monday evening.

Aviation tracking databases identify the aircraft associated with callsign ANX1209 as a Beechcraft King Air 350i, operated by Mexico’s Navy, Armada de México. It’s a twin-engine turboprop often used for a range of missions including transport and surveillance.

Combat was only a 2KB ROM. 8-bit assembler programming was a magical time. Cut my teeth on a 6502 when I was 10 when I got a copy of an assembler for the first time. Had a weird ass way of doing the high and low bytes, instead of just < or >, you'd have to and by 255 or divide by 256.

Aug 17, 2021 Animal Welfare at the United Nations

In 2018, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP – headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya) signed a two-year agreement with a Kenyan animal protection group, the Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW – founded in 2006), that included a stipulation that ANAW should organize animal welfare conferences in 2018 and 2019. At the 2019 conference, held in Addis Ababa at the United Nations conference center, it was announced that the agreement between UNEP and ANAW would be extended for a further three years. At around the same time, the African Union’s InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) established an Africa Platform for Animal Welfare with representatives from twenty-seven African states.

 

ANAW is now pursuing the development of a resolution on animal welfare to be presented to the UN Environment Assembly (the world’s highest-level decision-making body – its “parliament – on the environment), perhaps at the next meeting of the Assembly. The Assembly is usually held in person every two years. Due to the Covid pandemic, the 2021 Assembly, which was planned to be a virtual conference, was eventually postponed to an in-person Assembly in February 2022.

 

ANAW is developing a draft Resolution on animal welfare to present to the next session of UNEA and has begun meeting with government representatives and potential government sponsors to introduce and support the Resolution. All resolutions have to be brought to the Assembly and formally proposed by national government representatives.

 

The proposed Resolution is not the first attempt to get the UN to adopt a formal resolution on animal welfare. In the 1970s, there was a campaign to get UNESCO to support a resolution on animal rights, but the effort did not gain significant support and eventually faded away. At the beginning of this century, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (now World Animal Protection – WAP) launched a campaign to have the UN pass the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). In 2005, a steering committee consisting of government representatives from Kenya, India, Costa Rica, Czechia, and the Philippines (5 countries are required to sponsor a resolution at the UN) was formed to develop the formal wording of UDAW. In 2007, the World Organization for Animal Health passed a resolution supporting the development of UDAW in principle. In 2009, the FAO recognized UDAW and integrated animal welfare into its poverty alleviation, disaster relief, and livestock development programs. In 2014, the UDAW wording was updated, and there is now a renewed push to have the UDAW resolution passed at the UN.

Looks similar enough to Basic that'd be easy enough to pick up though from the Fortran code I have looked at though, kind of like how Ada seems similar enough to Pascal/Modula-2 to be easy enough to learn the syntax quickly. Russia backs Venezuela in standoff with US

 

The South American country is facing a blockade by US warships deployed in the Caribbean

 

Russia has reaffirmed it's full support and solidarity with Venezuela as the country faces a US military blockade in the Caribbean, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow has announced.

 

Washington has deployed multiple Navy vessels to the region since September, attacking boats it claims are involved in drug trafficking with the support of the Venezuelan government and blockading oil tankers entering or leaving the country. Caracas has consistently denied Washington’s claims, accusing the US of plotting regime change to gain access to Venezuela’s natural resources.

 

On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart, Yvan Gil, during which the top Russian diplomat expressed “serious concern over Washington’s increasingly escalatory actions in the Caribbean Sea,” according to the ministry statement. Lavrov added that the US military buildup could “lead to far-reaching consequences for the region and create a threat to international maritime navigation.”

 

Over the weekend, several media outlets, citing anonymous American officials, reported that the US Coast Guard was in “active pursuit” of a Venezuela-linked oil tanker in international waters in the Caribbean Sea. Over the past two weeks, US forces have already seized two tankers.

 

Since September, the US Navy has destroyed multiple boats off the coast of the South American country that it claims were carrying drugs. President Donald Trump has also threatened that land strikes could happen “pretty soon.”

 

Venezuela has characterized the seizure of oil tankers off its shores by the US Navy as an “act of piracy,” and accused Washington of seeking to install a “puppet government” in Caracas.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier expressed ”solidarity with the people of Venezuela and reaffirmed his support for the [Nicolas] Maduro government’s resolve to defend national interests and sovereignty against foreign pressure.”

 

Earlier this month, the Chinese Foreign Ministry similarly backed Caracas, saying that Beijing opposes “all acts of unilateralism and bullying.”

Malicious Actors Impersonating Senior US Officials, FBI Warns

 

“Activity dating back to 2023 reveals malicious actors have impersonated senior U.S. state government, White House, and Cabinet-level officials, as well as members of Congress to target individuals, including officials’ family members and personal acquaintances,” the alert said.

 

“If you receive a message claiming to be from a current or former senior U.S. official, do not assume it is authentic.”

 

As Naveen Athrappully reports for The Epoch Times, the threat actors have sent text messages and artificial intelligence-generated voice messages as part of their impersonation campaigns.

 

In the scheme, criminals contact a target by impersonating a U.S. official and briefly engage in conversation on a topic the target is well-versed in, the agency said. They then request that the communication be taken to an encrypted mobile messaging application. In most cases, the initial contact is made via SMS, and the conversation is then moved to an app such as Telegram, WhatsApp, or Signal.

 

Once this communication channel is set up, they inquire about events such as bilateral relations, current affairs, and trade and security policy negotiations, according to the FBI.

 

The malicious actor then suggests setting up a meeting between the target and the U.S. president or other high-ranking officials. They also lie that the target is being considered for nomination to the board of directors of a company.

 

According to the FBI, targets have been asked to take certain actions, including providing an authentication code allowing the fraudsters to sync their device with the contact list on the target’s phone, supplying personally identifiable information and copies of personal documents, and wiring funds to a financial institution located abroad under false pretenses.

 

The Dec. 19 alert is an update to an earlier alert issued by the FBI on May 15, which warned that once a target is lured into a messaging platform, he or she may be presented with malware or hyperlinks designed to steal log-in information, such as user names and passwords.

 

The malicious actors may use voice phishing tactics, which involve audio generated by artificial intelligence to impersonate public figures or personal relations to boost the believability of the scheme.

Military Jet Performs 'Headbutt' On Plane Intruding Into Mar-a-Lago Airspace

 

The aircraft entered restricted airspace at about 9:20 a.m., prompting an F-16 fighter jet to conduct what is called a “headbutt maneuver,” in which the jet flies directly in front of a civilian plane to get the pilot’s attention, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a news release.

 

NORAD, which oversees the airspace of the United States and Canada, did not specify the type of aircraft involved or its point of origin or destination.

 

Temporary flight restrictions went into effect at 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 ahead of Trump’s arrival in Palm Beach later that night for his annual Christmas and New Year’s visit to Mar-a-Lago. The restrictions, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), are set to remain in place until 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2026.

 

Under the restrictions, most flights are prohibited within a 10-nautical-mile radius, or about 12 miles, around Mar-a-Lago. A larger outer ring extending to 30 nautical miles, or roughly 35 miles, allows more limited aircraft movement, according to the FAA.

 

When an aircraft violates the restricted airspace, air traffic controllers would try to contact the pilot and instruct them to exit the area. If the pilot does not respond, NORAD may dispatch fighter jets to intercept the aircraft. Intercepting pilots may fly alongside the plane, tip their wings, release flares, or perform other maneuvers to attract the pilot’s attention.

 

Pilots who violate temporary flight restrictions may face penalties ranging from warnings and fines to suspension or revocation of their pilot certificates, the FAA said.

 

Since Trump was elected to a second term, he has made multiple weekend visits to Palm Beach County, triggering flight restrictions each time he is in town.

 

In early March, less than two months into Trump’s second presidency, NORAD said it had already intercepted 20 civilian aircraft for violating temporary flight restrictions near his Palm Beach residence.

Former CIA Director John Brennan's lawyers have taken the extraordinary step of confirming their client is a "target" of a criminal grand jury investigation in Florida and are asking the chief federal judge in Miami to stop the proceedings on the grounds that the Justice Department is "judge shopping."

The revelations came in a letter that defense lawyers Ken Wainstein and Natasha Harnwell Davis sent Monday to U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga, a George W. Bush appointee to the bench who supervises the Miami federal district court.

Wainstein and Davis revealed they have been informed by U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quinones in Miami that the grand jury is investigating Brennan's role in the 2016-27 Russia collusion probe that has since been discredited, including a CIA assessment that Russian president Vladimir Putin tried to help Trump win the 2016 election.

Whistleblower evidence released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe has called into question that assessment, revealing career intelligence experts disagreed with the conclusions made in the rushed report released to the public at the end of the Obama administration.

The evidence also showed that Brennan personally pressed to have a discredited document known as the Steele dossier included in the assessment contrary to his testimony to Congress, prompting both Ratcliffe and Gabbard to refer Brennan for possible prosecution.

"We have been formally advised by prosecutors of the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida that Director Brennan is a target of grand jury investigation NS 1840-020 in the Miami Division (24-06), which is examining the circumstances surrounding the production of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election in the United States," Brennan's lawyers wrote Altonaga.

The U.S. Attorney's manual describes a "target" as some who is likely to be indicted by a federal grand jury.

I met a guy who was all messed up at a show. He was selling 'hits' from a sheet that he kept in his hand. He told me how he'd been f'd up for days. It was a crap shoot taking that stuff. You might ahve a severe and heart wrenching bummer of a time or maybe nothing at all.

it wasn't till after that the ones making finally figured all that out. They'd make it more like a pharamcuitical and it was a precise dosage. by then I'd gotten the message and hung up the phone.

I prefered mushrooms because doses from sheets were such gambles. You could munch a little bit at time until you started to feel something.
