In my book, she's criminally liable. Sure, some level of incapacity, but that's not the way it should be treated, especially in cases of temporary incapacity. The onus should be on the defense, at least with these types of crimes.

 

BUT

 

If she is held fully liable, it makes it harder to go after criminal and/or civil liability elsewhere, i.e. doctors, etc. And in this case, there seems to be plenty to go around. My guess is that a lot of what was driving this case was a desire to backdoor attack docs and pharma, which does need to be done, but not through this mechanism. Those kids deserve justice.

The first lady, in rare public remarks, said eight children have been reunified in past 24 hours.

 

First lady Melania Trump said she has established an “open channel of communication” with Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent months, hoping to reunite children separated from their families during the war in Ukraine.

 

In one of her most substantive public remarks since her husband’s return to office, Trump said her representatives and Putin’s office have “participated in several backchannel meetings and calls, all in good faith,” about the welfare of children affected by the war.

 

“President Putin and I have had an open channel of communication regarding the welfare of children for the past three months,” Trump said, adding that both sides “agreed to cooperate with each other for the benefit of all people involved.”

 

Trump claimed that eight Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families in the past 24 hours as part of the initiative. Three of the children had been separated from their parents and displaced inside Russia due to front-line fighting, she said, while five others had been cut off from family members across borders since the early stages of the conflict.

 

The first lady said she had received documentation and photographs from Russian officials verifying the identities and conditions of the children involved, including a “verification report” prepared by the commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights and the Russian presidential commissioner for children’s rights. The facts have been confirmed by the U.S. government, she said.

 

“This is an important initiative,” Trump said. “It is still on shared purpose and lasting impact. My ongoing mission is two-fold — to optimize a transparent, free-flow exchange of information surrounding all children who have fallen victim to this war and to facilitate the regular communication of children with their families until each individual returns home.”

 

Trump said the discussions also covered those who were minors when displaced but have since turned 18 and remain in Russia. She claimed that Moscow agreed to “rejoin” those individuals with their families “within a short period of time.”

 

The International Criminal Court last year issued an arrest warrant for Putin over the alleged unlawful deportation of children from occupied Ukrainian territories.

 

The first lady has largely stayed out of the spotlight since Donald Trump returned to office. The reunification of children initiative marks her most substantial public policy effort this year. She first relayed a letter to Putin after Donald Trump met with the Russian president in Anchorage, Alaska, in August.

 

“A simple yet profound concept, Mr. Putin, as I am sure you agree, is that each generation’s descendants begin their lives with a purity—an innocence which stands above geography, government, and ideology,” she wrote in the letter, telling Putin “it is time” for the Ukrainian children to return home.

 

Donald Trump has spoken to the impact that his wife has had on him in keeping abreast of Russia’s repeated missile attacks on Ukraine. The first lady has pointed out that Putin’s words haven’t matched his actions, the president told reporters in the Oval Office in July.

 

“There’s times I’d get home. I’d say, ‘first lady, I had the most wonderful talk with Vladimir. I think we’re finished.’ And then I’ll turn on the television, or she’ll say to me one time, ‘Wow, that’s strange because they just bombed a nursing home. I’d say, ‘What?’” Trump said at the time.

Newt Gingrich went on “The Hang Out with Sean Hannity” this week. Newt was an early Trump supporter in 2016. He saw what was happening.

 

In his interview with Sean, Newt predicted a big GOP win in November!

 

New Gingrich: I’m not a big fan of polling, especially in this election cycle. Polling had El-Sayed up by 20. He won by 1. Francesca Hongwas up anywhere between 20 and 30. She lost by 3,000 votes in her race. And that was in Wisconsin. So, I don’t trust it.

 

And I think polling can deflate people’s— motivation to vote and maybe inspire another group of people to vote. It can be manipulated. And I just think that we’ve got to be careful of all of that. If you went outside at the same time every day and took a picture that included the Sun, how would the Sun's position change? A visual answer to that question is an analemma, a composite image taken from the same spot at the same time over the course of a year. The featured analemma was composed from images taken every few days at noon near the village of Callanish in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, UK. In the foreground are the Callanish Stones, a stone circle built around 2700 BC during humanity's Bronze Age. It is not known if the placement of the Callanish Stones has or had astronomical significance. The ultimate causes for the figure-8 shape of this and all analemmas are the tilt of the Earth axis and the ellipticity of the Earth's orbit around the Sun. At the solstices, the Sun will appear at the top or bottom of an analemma. The featured image was taken near the December solstice and so the Sun appears near the bottom. Equinoxes, however, correspond to analemma middle points – not the intersection point. In two days there will be an equinox ("equal night"), when day and night are equal over all of planet Earth. Many cultures celebrate a change of season at an equinox.

Early voting begins in US midterm elections that could flip control of Congress

HENRICO, Va. (AP) — In-person voting for this year's midterm elections began Friday, ushering in the final six weeks for Americans to decide which party they trust to lead Congress through a cost-of-living crisis, a prolonged war in Iran and other pressing issues.

 

Election administrators say they are prepared and confident the vote will be accurate and secure. Nevertheless, President Donald Trump has continued efforts to denigrate certain voting methods and reshape how elections are run, through court challenges, a federal hunt for noncitizen voters and a pressure campaignto force election officials to share sensitive voter data.

 

Friday was the start of early voting in Virginia. Voters in a few other states, including Minnesota and South Dakota, can cast absentee ballots in person, typically at a local election office or voting center. More expansive early voting is scheduled to begin in those and other states in the coming weeks.

 

At a voting location in Fairfax, Virginia, 18-year-old college student Sanya Singhal was among the first to vote early in person Friday morning, arriving well before the site opened to get in line.

 

"Why not just have a little fun in life, you know, try to be the first early voter?" she asked. "I really want to participate in my democracy."

 

At a voting location in suburban Richmond, a poll worker rang a bell as the building opened and about a dozen voters in line began to file in. Stephen Gura was excited to be the first.

 

"This election is critical. We need to stop the Trump agenda," said Gura, who added that he voted for U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat, and Shannon Taylor, the Democratic nominee against Republican incumbent Rob Wittman in the 1st Congressional District.

 

The Nov. 3 election includes votes for governor and state legislature in most states and will determine whether Republicans maintain control of the U.S. House and Senate. If Democrats retake Congress, it will alter the trajectory of the final two years of Trump's term, most likely leading to investigations and other oversight efforts.

 

Votes underway after redistricting and Trump's bid to control how elections are run

 

At the suburban Richmond voting center, a steady stream of voters flowed in and out. William Curry, a 74-year-old retiree who described himself as a libertarian-leaning independent conservative, voted for Warner's Republican challenger, Bert Mizusawa, and Wittman. Curry said he generally approves of the job Trump has done, apart from the war with Iran.

 

"He's in a mess he can't get rid of," Curry said of the conflict.

 

On a rainy day in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bill Goehring, 67, said he voted early at the county office because he will be traveling later. He voted for a mix of Democrats and independents, and said Trump's "dictatorial tendencies are bad for America."

 

John Thomas, a conservative retired police officer at the Sioux Falls office, said his biggest concerns were public safety and election integrity. He said he doesn't want to see votes in federal elections from immigrants living in the country illegally. Such fraudulent voting has been found to be extremely rare.

 

Trump's immigration agenda is "spot on," the 77-year-old said.

 

"We wouldn't be a country that much longer if it had stayed the same for another four years," he said.

 

The start of early voting comes at a time of deep angst and division among many Americans about issues including rising gas and grocery prices, the war in Iran, the looming risks of artificial intelligence and Trump's aggressive immigration enforcement campaign.

 

It also follows an unprecedented spate of mid-decade redistricting for the House that began when Trump urged the Republican-controlled legislature in Texas to redraw its congressional map to help the party. California and other states followed.

The changes affect millions of people: Research shows 1 in 10 Americans this fall is a resident of a different congressional district than in 2024.

 

Those partisan efforts are expected to continue before the 2028 elections after a landmark ruling this year from the U.S. Supreme Court weakened the federal Voting Rights Act's protections against racially discriminatory redistricting.

 

As the start of early voting approached, Trump was focused on efforts to assert federal control over election administration, even as the Constitution bestows the power to run elections on the states and, in some cases, Congress. The nation's highest court this week rejected Trump's bid to restrict mail ballots, but several of his administration's other efforts to influence the voting process and investigate state voter lists continue.

 

Virginia's Democratic attorney general warned Thursday that Trump's administration may have violated the state's laws after a whistleblower accused federal employees of misrepresenting themselves on voter lookup tools to hunt for noncitizen voters.

 

Trump for years has raised the specter of widespread noncitizen voting in U.S. elections, and this year is no exception. But research continues to show noncitizen voting is exceptionally rare.

 

David Becker, executive director and founder of the Center for Election Innovation and Research, said he wouldn't be surprised if the Republican president continues "his disinformation campaign and his attack on election officials." But he said he thinks "the process will hold as it has in past years."

 

At least a few Friday voters were motivated to vote early in part because of Trump's actions.

 

In Minneapolis, 47-year-old business processing engineer Dragan Colakovic said he didn't want to wait until Election Day for fear of being stopped by immigration agents. He said Trump's surge of agents to Minnesota in an immigration crackdown earlier this year terrified him. He is a naturalized U.S. citizen who moved from Bosnia in 1997 and saw the horrors of war in the former Yugoslavia.

 

"This echoed what I saw in Bosnia," he said of the heavily armed immigration agents who repeatedly swept through his neighborhood, which has many immigrants.

 

"These were my neighbors, my friends," being arrested, he said.

 

Sixty-three-year-old Democratic voter Laura Bland in Virginia's Henrico County said she cast a ballot early to send "a signal that we're still here" despite Trump's efforts to curtail mail voting.

 

"Regardless of whether you vote for a Democrat, Republican, people are not going to be stopped or intimidated from participating in our elections," Bland said, nearly moved to tears.

 

Advocates suggest voters cast their ballots early

 

Voting rights advocates have encouraged voters this year to cast mail ballots early, in part because of concerns about recent changes in U.S. Postal Service operations that could delay the application of postmarks to ballots.

 

Voting early "gives voters options, eases lines on Election Day and can even mean faster results," said Hannah Fried, co-founder and CEO of the voting rights group All Voting Is Local.

 

The top official at the U.S. Postal Service also encouraged voters who cast ballots by mail to get them in a week before they're due.

 

"Everything is solved if people vote early," Postmaster General David Steiner said in an interview.

 

In a news briefing Thursday, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon urged people not to be swayed by stories they might have seen or read that cast doubt on election operations. They would be able to vote "just like they always have," he said.

 

"I just want to reaffirm that Minnesota's elections are fundamentally free, fair, accurate, honest and secure," he said.

The most pressing news so far this morning is that Ukraine launched a major overnight drone strike on Russia, hitting a Moscow refinery despite President Trump's request for Ukraine to stop striking Russian energy infrastructure as a global refining crisis deepens.

 

Bloomberg reports that the Gazprom Neft-owned Moscow Oil Refinery, about 16 miles from the Kremlin, was struck by drones. The facility has a processing capacity of around 245,000 barrels a day and supplies fuel to the surrounding metro area.

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X, "One of Russia's key oil industry facilities and the aggressor’s logistics facility were hit. These are billions of dollars that sustain the war machine. The systems used included FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, Palianytsia, Vendetta, Liutyi, Bars, Flamingo, Sichen, and Pelican."

The Trump White House could not resist poking the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end in hilarious fashion after he unfortunately got conned by an illegal alien in a massive Ponzi scheme.

 

As The Gateway Pundit’s Jordan Conradson reported, Kelce, the husband of liberal pop singer Taylor Swift, fell victim to a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme perpetrated by an illegal alien from India, announced by the Justice Department on Tuesday.

 

The scammer, 38-year-old Siddharth Jawahar, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for the $35 million fraud scheme. He was also ordered to pay more than $31 million in restitution to victims.

 

Jawahar’s Swiftarc Capital LLC was found to have funneled all of his clients’ money into Philip Morris Pakistan, but invested only about $10 million.

 

He then used new clients’ money to pay his earlier clients.

 

While Kelce was named as a victim in federal court on Tuesday, his exact losses were not revealed.

 

On Thursday, the Trump White House had quite the response to this sad incident.

 

After touting its anti-fraud task force, the White House then dropped an epic one-liner that sent the Internet into a frenzy.

 

“That’s why we do what we do,” the post reads. “Seems like a good time to re-up the work of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud: identifying fraud & protecting Americans.”

He promoted the article in a tweet, concluding, “The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal.”

 

An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

 

“Pompeo asked to meet” the pope, who turned him down because Francis had “clearly said that he does not receive political figures ahead of the elections,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who, as secretary of state, is the Vatican’s second-ranking official, told reporters.

 

But to some observers on both sides of the tensions between the Roman Catholic Church and the Trump administration, Mr. Pompeo’s visit is as much about the coming presidential election as about China policy. Mr. Pompeo dismissed that suggestion as absurd, but intended or not, his trip signals that President Trump is on the side of those conservative American Catholics who worry about the church’s direction under Francis and think he is soft on China.

 

Francis and Mr. Trump, who have exchanged sharp words in the past, present starkly different visions on issues ranging from the environment to immigration to the threat of populism. The United States warned that fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthis could “escalate rapidly” after a missile attack targeted Riyadh for the first time since the Yemen conflict resumed.

US President Donald Trump cut short a weekend at Camp David, a secluded presidential complex in rural Maryland, to return unexpectedly to the White House.

 

The White House gave no explanation for the early return, which comes as a new threshold was crossed in the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, who control a large part of Yemen and are fighting government forces backed by a coalition led by Riyadh.

 

Loud explosions rang out on Saturday in the Saudi capital, where AFP journalists saw a fuel tank bearing the logo of oil giant Aramco on fire near the airport.

 

“This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly,” the US State Department warned, adding American citizens outside the Middle East should “seriously reconsider travel to and through the region”.

 

In recent weeks, the Houthis’ lightning offensive seizing swathes of Yemeni territory has left hundreds dead and, according to the UN refugee agency, displaced more than 110,000 people.

 

‘Intercepted’

 

The violence has already disrupted exports from Saudi Arabia, the world’s leading supplier of crude oil, as well as maritime traffic.

 

Saudi Arabia’s ally the United States has sent mixed signals. According to US news platform Axios, Washington refused last week a Saudi request to strike the Houthis, but it has since approved a longer term $24.3 billion sale of 48 F-35 fighter jets.

 

On Sunday, US Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in a rare visit to Cairo.

 

The visit came days after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was also in the Egyptian capital, where he and Sisi urged safe and secure navigation through Bab al-Mandab, after the Houthis seized the Yemeni coast.

 

The Bab al-Mandab strait is a Red Sea waterway that is crucial to energy flows and global shipping and which has become even more strategic since Iran imposed a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

 

Condemning the Houthis’ latest attacks, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told the broadcaster NTV that his country had had discussions with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, partners in a mutual defence pact, about possible assistance.

 

“In this regard, military needs, especially in state technical matters, may happen. There would be no problem in meeting this demand either,” he said.

 

Saudi Arabia meanwhile has scrambled to contain the fallout of the Houthis’ attacks on its territory.

On Sunday, the attack on Riyadh was not mentioned in several major Saudi papers, even though hours beforehand, the Riyadh-led coalition had confirmed that a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis was “successfully intercepted and destroyed”.

 

The coalition added that the pro-Iranian fighters had tried to target “civilians and civilian infrastructure” in several cities in the west of the kingdom, including the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea, an important export hub for Saudi oil.

 

Saudi Arabia has responded with scores of airstrikes on Houthi-held areas but has failed to stop the fighters’ advance in Yemen.

 

Claiming responsibility for the attack, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said fighters had carried out “two successful military operations using a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones”.

 

“The first targeted sensitive sites in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and the second targeted Aramco facilities in Yanbu.”

 

Lightning offensive

 

According to Andreas Krieg of King’s College London, the attack on Riyadh, the first to threaten the Saudi capital since Yemen’s civil war resumed, crossed “an important psychological threshold”.

 

“Saudi Arabia can absorb intermittent attacks on remote military or energy installations more easily than repeated threats to Riyadh itself,” he told AFP.

 

“Strikes around airports, fuel storage and populated areas make restraint politically and strategically much harder to sustain.”

 

The attack has piled further pressure on a global economy already rocked by seven months of war in the Middle East, which began in February with US-Israeli strikes on Iran and which has seen the Islamic republic respond with attacks around the region.

 

Iran-backed groups also got involved, with Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen carrying out attacks against their foes.

 

Iran’s top negotiator said Tehran had conveyed to the US through mediators its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which it has blockaded throughout the Middle East war.

 

While conflict in Yemen predates the Middle East war, the recent escalation in the country — one of the world’s poorest — has turned it into the most active front of the wider violence.

 

A fragile truce reached in 2022 collapsed in July, and the Houthis went on an all-out offensive against the internationally recognised government this month.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is showing signs of political trouble as City Councilwoman Nithya Raman threatens to pull off a Mamdani-style upset in the mayoral race.

 

Like Zohran Mamdani in New York City, Raman is a left-wing challenger threatening to defeat an establishment-backed candidate.

 

A new internal poll released by Raman’s campaign found the challenger leading Bass by five points, 44% to 39%, while 17% of voters remained undecided. Hart Research Associates surveyed 600 likely voters in early September. The poll has a four-point margin of error.

 

Another survey paid for by a group supporting Raman initially showed a close race, with Bass at 38% and Raman at 37%. After voters were given more information about the candidates, Raman moved ahead by seven points, 41% to 34%. That poll had a 3.7-point margin of error.

 

Bass’s campaign declined to release its own polling.

 

An outside group backing the mayor pointed to an early August poll that put Bass ahead, 41% to 35%, with nearly a quarter of voters undecided. The same survey found Bass leading 45% to 33% after voters were presented with information about both candidates.

 

The competing numbers come as Bass and Raman begin spending heavily on campaign advertising across television, streaming services, and social media.

 

Raman released a Hollywood-themed ad featuring the voice of actor and screenwriter Bob Odenkirk. The commercial shows Raman visiting a taco stand and embracing a dog while presenting her as the candidate of “change” and “affordability.”

 

Bass responded with a digital ad focused on the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations. The commercial includes footage of Bass confronting federal agents at MacArthur Park in July 2025.

The 1988 date is VERY interesting. A year later, the NSA, with a fraudulent study, declared a STEM shortage and visa hell for American workers began. Looks more like a plan to replace the American worker. This wasn’t happenstance.

 

Eric R. Weinstein, PhD wrote a paper I'll give links to below. He quoted Michael Teitlebaum, vice-chairman of the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform and Officer of the Sloan Foundations concurred stating:

 

"There is no shortage, there is a surplus. Claims that there was a dearth [of scientists and engineers] began a decade ago, when Erich Bloch, (ex. IBM) then-Director of the National Science Foundation, claimed that unless action was taken, there would be a cumulative shortfall of 675,000 scientists and engineers over the next two decades. Congress poured in additional money. The National Science Foundation received tens of millions of dollars for science and engineering education. And in 1990, Congress nearly tripled the number of permanent visas for highly skilled immigrants."

 

"So when you hear an employer saying he needs immigrants to fill a "labor shortage," remember what you are hearing: a cry for a labor subsidy to allow the employer to avoid the normal functioning of the labor market."

 

Another entity appears- recruiters. (Usually call themselves tech consultants) Companies use them to find and hire people. As Robert Sterling found out in a very informative readerapp (Link below):

 

"As it turns out, these are ALL Indian companies that import H-1B workers en masse…..these aren't American companies that needed international talent to fill critical roles. They're foreign companies that appear to have been founded to place overseas tech workers into US companies as contractors."

 

The recruiters literally place an embargo against American workers. And even if they get an interview, there is now an HR DEI person next in line to quash that potential employee in favor of "equity." DEI believers are not going away. f. They prefer anyone but a qualified American.

 

This has a chilling effect on America's future technological base. We've had US citizens laid off in favor of cheaper foreign labor by moving jobs overseas or bringing foreign workers here. New grads in STEM can't get important entry level jobs because they've gone to a H1B. And then they get moved up instead of an American employee.

 

Eventually, America will be dependent on foreign tech. This sounds like Plan B of replacement, just implemented a different way. Any Trojan Horses among them?

 

When employers lay off US workers to hire H1B, the question is never asked, why they didn't try to hire back US workers? America first?

By this process, the heritage of the original Knights Hospitallers made its way to Luzerne County. Despite their lurid reputation in certain conspiracy theories dealing with the New World Order, the Shickshinny Knights are among the smaller conservative secret societies in twenty-first-century America. Its membership has included a number of retired generals from the Second World War era, including Charles Willoughby, former chief of intelligence for General Douglas MacArthur, but very few figures with significant power or wealth. It does apparently have significant connections with other extreme right-wing groups in America and Europe – one of its members, for example, was an editor for the John Birch Society magazine American Opinion. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Sunday that the massive arch he wants to build between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery would become a “top grade military complex” able to host drones and snipers while storing ammunition.

 

It is one more example of how Trump is insisting that his initiatives to beautify the White House and the city are also serving a defensive purpose. Trump has been calling the new White House ballroom a “military complex” and arguing it is necessary for national security purposes.

 

The Pentagon said it had no information beyond the president’s statement.

 

Trump’s announcement also comes as the arch, like his other projects, faces legal challenges. Though the arch has received early approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, whose members were all tapped by Trump, a group of three veterans and an architectural historian sued, saying the project needs to be approved by Congress.

 

The Republican president said in a social media post that he had agreed, at the “strong request” of the military, to convert the planned 250-foot-tall (76-meter) memorial arch “into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch, to house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas, and additionally have and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage.”

 

The arch is proposed for a circle adjacent to the Memorial Bridge, which is a heavy traffic area as one of a handful of connecting bridges between the nation’s capital and northern Virginia.

 

The project is one of several projects that the Republican president is pursuing to leave his lasting imprint on Washington. Among the others are the white House ballroom, renaming and renovating the Kennedy Center,refurbishing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and rebuilding a golf course in East Potomac Park that could significantly reduce the public’s access to running and biking paths.

 

The groundbreaking for the arch was to have happened sometime this month. The project has not yet received final approval from the National Capital Area Planning Commission, which greenlit the site and preliminary plans at its July meeting. The commission is expected to take up the matter again this fall.

As the Trump administration continues to pursue ways to quell “birth tourism,” legal scholars are probing potential actions Congress could take to rewrite the common interpretation of the 14th amendment’s citizenship clause.

 

The clause states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.”

 

That phrase has been interpreted over the last 150 years to guarantee citizenship to any child born in the United States – with a few exceptions – regardless of whether the mother is residing in the country legally.

 

The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that interpretation in June in Trump v. Barbara, with Chief Justice John Roberts stating that the phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" refers to the United States' power to govern anyone living in its territory.

 

Critics of the court’s ruling disagree, arguing that the clause does not mean territorial jurisdiction, but national jurisdiction, which requires allegiance to the U.S. government

 

They further argue that the 14th amendment was meant to apply only to American citizens and recently freed slaves, not illegal immigrants or tourists who come to the U.S. explicitly to have children.

 

“This was an outcome-oriented decision, in my opinion. This is not a decision that was actually grounded in originalism,” Gene Hamilton, president of the America First Legal Foundation, said Friday in a webinar hosted by the Federalist Society.

 

“It's not a decision that was grounded in anything other than wanting to avoid an awkward political outcome by certain members of the Court.”

 

“[I]t's weird to me — to put it bluntly — to consider someone being subject to the jurisdiction thereof as implying simply that their mere presence in the United States…means that [they] are a member of the body politic, and [their] children should be citizens, and that there is nothing that could ever change that,” Hamilton added.

 

As of 2017, an estimated 4.5 million children under the age of 18 born to illegal immigrants were living in the U.S., according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform. An estimated 225,000 to 250,000 were born in 2023 alone, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.

 

U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the Second Circuit Steven Menashi, another guest in the panel, disagreed with Hamilton. He argued that “to understand a rule that is fixed to apply differently under different circumstances is not really an odd result or non-originalist in any way.”

 

“We say the Second Amendment doesn't just apply to muskets, and so it might also be that the principle in the [citizenship] clause doesn't only apply to the categories to which it applied at the time,” Menashi posited.

 

Both Hamilton and Menashi agreed, however, that if Congress disagrees with the ruling, lawmakers can likely utilize their legislative powers to either work around the ruling or at least force the court to revisit its interpretation.

 

“[If the circumstances under which somebody receives citizenship can't be limited, then maybe Congress or the executive branch might try to reclaim some of the authorities about regulating citizenship,” Menashi noted.

 

“And that's not inconsistent with Barbara, right? Because Barbara is just about who receives citizenship. It's not about the degree to which citizenship could be regulated once conferred.”

 

“[A]ll that we need is a vehicle to get before the Supreme Court to get them to reconsider the decision,” Hamilton added. “Congress could still pass a law…and ultimately, that's just going to cue up another case or controversy for the Supreme Court to adjudicate and decide. But Congress still ultimately has the power to do whatever it wants.”

Trump’s questionable social media posts on space deserve context

President Trump will be remembered, along with John F. Kennedy Jr. and Ronald Reagan, as one of the American presidents who took America’s space program to new heights.

The world is going back to the moon, largely because of Trump and the two men he appointed to be NASA administrator — Jim Bridenstine in his first term and Jarad Isaacman in his second.

 

However, two recent social media posts by Trump have been perplexing. The first was a graphic of proposed uniforms for members of the U.S. Space Force.

The problem with the proposal is that the uniforms resembled something worn in “Star Wars” by the crew of the evil Galactic Empire’s Death Star — obviously not a good look for an American military service.

 

The post has sparked a lot of mockery on social media. It also suggests that science fiction may not be the appropriate model for fashioning a look for America’s space military service.

Some may think that it detracts from the Space Force’s role as a serious military branch that operates in a realm increasingly important to the defense of the U.S. and the free world.

 

The exception may be the television and movie franchise “Star Trek.”

One can imagine the Space Force someday morphing into Star Fleet, the exploration and military service at the center of the franchise. After all, SpaceX’s Elon Musk, upon the formation of the Space Force, posted on X that “Star Fleet begins.”

Perhaps the uniforms worn by Space Force personnel could be derived from those worn by characters in the Star Trek TV shows and movies. They would not contain the whiff of space-based fascism.

 

The other Trump space social media post that has caused consternation is a graphic of the moon with the Earth in the distance, bearing the caption, “The Moon is Ours” with an American flag.

The post is being widely interpreted as Trump declaring the moon to be sovereign American territory, an act prohibited by the Outer Space Treaty of 1967

 

On the other hand, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) proposed making the moon a U.S. state during his 2012 campaign for the presidency.

He proposed a “Northwest Ordinance for Space” that would govern how a moon base might eventually become a 51st state once it had achieved 13,000 inhabitants.

 

Gingrich’s proposal — not to speak of the annexation of the moon — went nowhere in 2012, thanks in large part to the ridicule heaped on the idea by the eventual Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.

Romney went down to defeat, so it was left to Trump to revive the moon base idea once he became president.

Now the moon base, as part of the Artemis program, is wildly popular. But what about annexing the moon?

 

The problem is that it runs contrary to the Artemis Accords strategy that NASA is using to enhance American soft power. The U.S. is not going back to the moon alone. It has amassed a remarkable coalition of nations and private companies for that effort.

The U.S. State Department has just announced the Space Catalyst Partnership, designed to foster cooperation between the signatory members of the Artemis Accords and private companies.

The partnership “will primarily promote civil and commercial space cooperation through three tools: diplomatic outreach, industry engagement, and the targeted use of foreign assistance, subject to the availability of funds.”

 

Obviously, if the U.S. was seen as instituting an imperialist land grab on the moon, its allies in the Artemis Accords might rethink their cooperation with NASA and American companies such as SpaceX.

The Artemis Accords, as I have mentioned before, provide a more sensible and subtle way of governing celestial bodies such as the moon.

 

During the Apollo race to the moon against the Soviet Union, the U.S. was going pretty much alone, with the rest of the world as bystanders.

With the Artemis program, the U.S. is taking the rest of the world, with the exception of rogue states such as China and Russia, back to the moon with it.

 

The U.S., which is providing the bulk of the resources for the Artemis program, is still going to be the dominant power. But it is achieving quite a bit of good will around the world through its willingness to share.

The strategy is a marked contrast with that of China, which has made no secret of its imperial ambitions. Thus, America maintains the moral high ground.

Delta Leadership Course bridges air and space

Space Launch Delta 30 recently hosted its inaugural Delta Leadership Course, equipping 13 commanders and senior enlisted leaders with the knowledge, relationships and resources necessary to lead Guardians and Airmen at a Space Force installation.

The locally developed course supports the Department of the Air Force’s emphasis on preparing command teams to build ready units, uphold standards, care for their people and execute the mission in a rapidly changing operational environment.

 

For many of the participating Air Force leaders, an assignment at Vandenberg represents their first experience commanding within a Space Force-led installation.

The weeklong course introduced them to Vandenberg’s mission, organizational structure, support network and distinct service culture while reinforcing the responsibilities shared by command teams across the Department of the Air Force.

 

“As Delta Commanders, our responsibility is to ensure our Squadron Commanders have the tools, context and relationships they need to take care of their people and accomplish the mission,” said U.S. Space Force Col. James T. Horne III, SLD 30 commander.

“At Vandenberg, that also means understanding how Guardians and Airmen work together to enable launch, test and aeronautical operations essential to our nation’s security.”

 

Recognizing the challenges and opportunities of command teams at Vandenberg, U.S. Air Force Col. Lawrence A. Smith II, SLD 30 deputy commander, conceptualized a tailored leadership program.

With Horne’s full backing and direction to move forward, Col. Smith turned the concept into an actionable curriculum to prepare newly assigned leaders.

 

“We recognized there was an opportunity to better prepare command teams for the unique experience of leading at a Space Force installation,” said Smith.

“Drawing from proven Air Force practices, our team built a course specifically for Vandenberg’s mission and the Airmen and Guardians who execute it.

What began as a local solution may ultimately offer a useful model for how the Space Force welcomes and equips command teams across the service.”

 

The curriculum brought several command teams together for an integrated look at what it takes to lead effectively at the Department of the Air Force’s fastest-growing space launch delta.

“This was an opportunity to create something completely new for the Space Force while drawing on proven Air Force leadership practices,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Sanders, SLD 30 senior enlisted Airman.

“Because I was also new to Vandenberg, I could bring the questions and challenges incoming command teams experience directly into the development process.

SLD 30 supports military, civil and commercial space launch, missile testing and aeronautical operations and its mission has grown more than 1300% in the last five years.

The program addressed the experiences of Airmen assigned to a Space Force base and the responsibilities leaders have in helping both Guardians and Airmen navigate an exponentially growing service environment.

 

The course emphasized the partnership between commanders and senior enlisted leaders and the importance of approaching leadership as an integrated team.

It also allowed participants to establish relationships across organizational boundaries, share experiences and identify common challenges before those challenges affect personnel or mission execution.

 

By understanding the cultures, missions and needs of both services, command teams are better positioned to strengthen unit cohesion and ensure every member remains connected to the mission.

“This course helped connect the dots—what’s expected of us as commanders, how Vandenberg operates and where to turn when our people need support,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Joanne Whitlock, SLD 30 Logistics and Readiness Squadron commander.

“I’m leaving this course better prepared to set clear expectations, take care of my Airmen, and keep the team focused on the mission.”

 

The inaugural Delta Leadership Course establishes a locally developed framework that can evolve alongside Vandenberg’s mission and workforce. Participant feedback will be used to strengthen future iterations of the annual program.

“The course did an outstanding job highlighting some blind spots we didn’t know we had,” said U.S. Space Force Master Sgt. Jeffrey Wynn, 30th Operations Support Squadron senior enlisted leader. “The course should be made available to a wider population.”

 

Ultimately, the course reflects a fundamental readiness principle: Command teams that understand their mission, know their people and can connect them with the right resources are better prepared to lead through change and deliver combat capability.

China launches 4 different rockets to orbit in 45 hours

The growing diversity and capability of China's launch sector were on display last week.

Four different Chinese orbital rockets lifted off in a 45-hour span from Tuesday (Sept. 15) to Wednesday (Sept. 16), flying from three different launch sites.

Two of the rockets were private vehicles — and all four aced their missions.

 

The action started Tuesday at 2:26 a.m. EDT (0626 GMT), when the Beijing company LandSpace sent one of its Zhuque-2E rockets up from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.

The Zhuque-2E — which burns liquid methane and liquid oxygen like SpaceX's in-development Starship megarocket — hauled 10 satellites to low Earth orbit (LEO) for the Qianfan ("Thousand Sails") broadband megaconstellation.

If all goes to plan, Qianfan will eventually consist of about 15,000 active spacecraft.

 

Another nine Qianfan satellites went up at 6:00 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT) on Tuesday atop a Gravity-1 rocket, which launched from a barge off the coast of Shanghai.

The Gravity-1, operated by the company Orienspace, is the world's most powerful solid rocket — though it's probably better known for its almost comically squat and stubby profile.

 

Next up was a Long March 12 rocket, which is flown by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

It lifted off on Wednesday at 8:32 p.m. EDT (0032 GMT on Sept. 17) from the Wenchang Space Launch Site on the island of Hainan and carried nine spacecraft for another Chinese LEO broadband megaconstellation called SatNet, which is envisioned to harbor about 13,000 satellites.

 

A Kuaizhou-11 rocket finished the four-flight flurry about two hours later, launching from Jiuquan at 10:40 p.m. EDT (0240 GMT on Sept. 17).

The vehicle, which is operated by a subsidiary of the state-run China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, carried two Earth-observing radar satellites for the Chinese company Spacety.

 

The quartet of launches didn't give us a full picture of China's launch ambitions, however, for none of the four rockets attempted a landing.

The nation is working hard to develop reusable rockets and has already made considerable progress on this front.

In the last 2.5 months, two different vehicles — LandSpace's Zhuque-3 and CASC's Long March 10B — have successfully landed their first stages during orbital missions.

No Chinese first stage has flown multiple orbital missions thus far, but that box could be checked fairly soon.

Two civilians were killed and several others, including two children, were injured in Moscow Region during a powerful Ukrainian drone raid that was aimed at derailing Russia’s parliamentary elections, local officials said.

 

In a statement on Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said more than 1,600 UAVs were repelled since the previous day, adding that 450 UAVs were intercepted on approaches to the capital.

“The unprecedented attack was clearly planned to disrupt the elections. The enemy failed,” he said.

 

Several drones reached the premises of the Moscow Oil Refinery, where one unidentified facility was damaged, and one struck a residential building, according to Sobyanin, who said there were no fatalities in the capital.

The consequences of the raid, however, were much more destructive in the suburbs.

 

Earlier in the day, Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported damage in the Ramenskoye District, southeast of Moscow, where a 44-year-old woman was killed and five others, including two children, were injured when a drone hit an apartment building in the village of Sofyino.

In the nearby city of Ramenskoye, around 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block after falling drone debris sparked a fire on the roof, with 20 vehicles also damaged.

Another person was killed in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo District, where a private home was destroyed and caught fire during the attack. The victim was an elderly man who was inside the building, according to the governor.

 

Elsewhere in Moscow Region, a warehouse complex caught fire in Sofyino, and a drone struck an apartment building in Kotelniki, setting apartments on three floors ablaze. The authorities are still determining whether anyone was injured.

Private homes were also damaged in Kolomna and Yegoryevsk, while fires broke out at apartment buildings in the Leninsky District, Lyubertsy, and Lytkarino. A residential building and an industrial facility were damaged in Istra, with no casualties reported.

 

The massive raid struck Moscow and the surrounding region just hours before polling stations were due to open for the final day of Russia’s three-day parliamentary elections.

Despite the attack, all 1,443 polling stations in Moscow opened on time, Moscow Election Commission Deputy Chairman Dmitry Reut told TASS.

 

Moscow has accused Kiev of undermining diplomatic efforts while publicly calling for renewed negotiations. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian leadership is “talking about peace” while doing everything to prevent peace and negotiations.

Earlier this month, Putin ordered large-scale retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in response to attacks inside Russia.

Moscow has condemned the strikes on civilians as acts of terrorism, while maintaining that Russian forces only target military and defense-related facilities.

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a Russian Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system, a Nebo-U long-range surveillance radar, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturing facility, and frontline command installations across occupied territories on Sept. 19-20.

 

According to the official military dispatch by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Ukrainian precision fire engaged high-value Russian air defense and reconnaissance assets deployed across three eastern and southern provinces.

 

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Buk-M3 medium-range surface-to-air missile complex deployed near the settlement of Ukrainka.

 

The Buk-M3 system is among Russia’s modernized mobile air defense assets designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and combat aircraft.

 

In the Donetsk region, a precision strike targeted and damaged a Russian Nebo-U early-warning radar station operating in the vicinity of Balka.

 

The Nebo-U system operates in the Very High Frequency (VHF) band and is engineered to detect, identify, and track aerodynamic and ballistic targets, including low-radar-cross-section aircraft and missiles, at ranges of several hundred kilometers.

 

Concurrently in the Luhansk region, Ukrainian units engaged an industrial facility utilized by Russian forces for manufacturing attack drones near the occupied city of Severodonetsk.

 

Ukrainian forces also struck tactical command nodes in the Donetsk region, hitting a Russian command and observation post near Zoryane and destroying a UAV control station located in the vicinity of Staromykhailivka.

 

Sustained campaign against Russian drone nodes and logistics

The overnight strikes follow consecutive Ukrainian precision engagements on Sept. 18-19 aimed at dismantling Russian tactical drone infrastructure, command nodes, and supply hubs in active operational zones.

 

In those operations, Ukrainian forces targeted multiple UAV control posts in the Zaporizhzhia region, striking command nodes near Volodymyrivka, Verbove, Dobropillya, and Rivnopillya, alongside two separate drone control installations near Novoprokopivka.

 

Ukrainian artillery and missile units additionally hit the Russian military’s “Vostochny” training range near the occupied settlement of Novopetrivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.

 

In the Donetsk region, earlier strikes hit Russian UAV command posts near Luhanske and Pokrovsk, while long-range fire struck a material and technical supply warehouse in Rybynske and an ammunition storage depot near Amvrosiivka.

 

The General Staff also confirmed battle damage assessments from cross-border strikes conducted earlier in the week, verifying that a Ukrainian strike on Sept. 17 damaged a Russian 80P6 surveillance radar station deployed near Mityuli in Russia’s Smolensk region.
