Well, okay, so I was asked, what's up with ethanol?

 

One of the problems ethanol has had has been not having a level playing field all these years. Everyone screamed subsidies but then the oil companies have always had tax breaks and their own versions of subsidies. Ethanol has been called a smog producer, an unsustainable hoax and is the enemy of the UN (which to me screams it must be something good if the UN hates it) .

 

The whole growing corn for fuel to starve the masses… well we have so much food that we throw away many tons. For example, a farmer in Idaho grows 270,000 tons of potatoes but can only selll 90,000. What is he supposed to do with the other 180,000? Alcohol is the answer! How about hurricanes destroying the citrus crop in FLorida? Well, gotta find a use for those oranges on the ground.

 

The big thing we have to understand is there are MANY ways to grow crops for ethanol. Here again, I would point everyone to the feedstock section of David Blume's book Alcohol Can Be a Gas!. My favorite is cattails. Sugar does well in Brazil and they take care of the soil as well. Monocropping is not good in the long run so corn should be rotated (and not with soy, ugh!) with higher yield crops. Corn is mostly grown for chickens and cows which as we know, is bad for the cows.

 

Nice thing about ethanol is it kills off all the gmo shit in the corn when processed for ethanol. Burn it, don't eat it. That's a start. What else? How do I respond to a specific numbered post?

At the time, Klitgaard, then an attorney and partner at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, was one of the first Americans who went to Shanghai with US Senator (then Mayor) Dianne Feinstein in 1980 to establish a sister-city relationship between Shanghai and San Francisco, only a few months after the US and China normalized diplomatic relations.

 

"Dianne Feinstein thought that the development of a special relationship with Shanghai would be a tremendous benefit to San Francisco and that normalization presented opportunities for San Francisco and the United States that were going to happen only once in a life time, so she initiated the trip of about 20 people to go to China with her to open a new page in history," Klitgaard said.

 

Under an MOU signed by Jiang and Feinstein, Chinese managers would be sent to San Francisco to study economics and business management, and the US side would send professors and business professionals to Shanghai to provide instruction on those and other subjects at universities in Shanghai. This was to include hands-on internship programs for the Chinese managers at businesses in California and elsewhere in the US at the end of the formal instruction.

 

The program trained almost 100 Chinese managers selected by the Shanghai Municipal Government and later by China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Pudong Branch. Many of the graduates have become high ranking officers in the Chinese government and state corporations. They were pioneers in developing a mutual appreciation and understanding of the underlying business cultures of San Francisco and Shanghai and ,in a broader sense, of the US and China. They interned at businesses of all sizes and were exposed to the American entrepreneurial spirit in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.

The best way to handle any kind of shipment turned out to be through shipping "Forwarders", and most shipping forwarders were actually based in Hong Kong.

 

In fact, most of the businesses in Guangzhou / Shenzhen had their banking in Hong Kong. Another way of leveraging this close proximity is to send your parcel by courier service from the mainland to HK, where it is then shipped internationally to wherever.

 

So I can see why Shenzhen has received so much Q focus. Not only is it China's electronics nexus, but it shares a border with HK. They just opened a high speed rail between the two in fact.

Yes, that is correct. Growing Corn in Iowa and shipping it to a plant in California is madness. It was tried and did not work. Ethanol processing plants can be put up and down central California to process waste crops and then use theethanol to run equipment. A plant could be put in every county using the sugar or starch from waste produced there. Sustainable local fuel.

Black farmers, whose numbers already have dwindled precipitously over the past century, face new hardships after suffering poor crop yields last year because they were sold "fake" soybean seeds, an association alleges in a lawsuit.

 

Leaders of the Memphis-based Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association have filed a class-action lawsuit against Stine Seed, the nation's largest independent seed-producer, accusing the Adel, Iowa, firm of targeting African-Americans for sales of defective seeds.

 

The suit alleges that black farmers who attended the 67th Annual Mid-South Farm & Gin Show in Memphis last year bought more than $100,000 worth of "certified" seeds. But the lawsuit alleges the seeds were switched for inferior ones at a warehouse near Sledge, Miss.

China is about to build a real 'Red October'

 

When The Hunt for Red October came out in 1984, and with it the invention of the techno-thriller genre (author Tom Clancy's claim to literary greatness), one of the stars was a modified Typhoon-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN). That novel, of course, was adapted to film in 1990.

 

The book and the film featured two different versions of the silent drive. The book used impellors, while the film used magneto-hydrodynamic propulsion. Now, something that is somewhat similar to the latter version of the Red October's silent drive could be a reality… thanks to the People's Liberation Army Navy.

 

According to a report by Popular Mechanics, the Chinese have tested a drive using a "permanent magnet motor" near Hainan Island. A release by the Chinese military noted that China was also experimenting with a "shaftless" pumpjet propulsion system.

 

Permanent magnet motors run much more quietly than conventional types currently in use on submarines. This is due to their "brushless" nature, which also means they can be smaller, taking up less volume on submarines (which are notoriously cramped) and increasing their reliability and also improving their endurance.

 

According to GlobalSecurity.org, China has a small number of nuclear submarines at present, roughly a half-dozen attack subs and four ballistic missile submarines. While greatly outnumbered by those of the United States, China is planning to build many more nuclear-powered subs by 2030, including versions more modern than the Shang and Jin classes that are their current state of the art.

 

The United States is not standing still. Reportedly, the new Columbia-class SSBNs will also be using a magnetic-drive technology. That said, it should be noted that in both the book and movie versions of Hunt for Red October, the United States Navy was able to track the titular submarine.

Jackson Cosko, the former Democratic staffer accused of β€œdoxing” Republican senators by leaking their personal information, was ordered held without bond Tuesday, with the judge saying he posed a risk to the community.

 

Prosecutors revealed investigators found cocaine and methamphetamine during a search of his possessions, and speculated he may have been under the influence when, according to police, he used his government credentials to post personal information of some lawmakers at the height of the grueling Kavanaugh-nomination fracas, and broke into a senator’s office while threatening to release other information.

 

Those threats seemed to worry Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson, who ordered him held without bond, rejecting his lawyers’ pleas that he be released on strict conditions.

 

Even an offer of having him turned over to his parents, with orders to stay away from electronic devices and wear an ankle bracelet, weren’t enough to sway Judge Robinson.

 

Police said Mr. Cosko released personal addresses and phone numbers of Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and several other Republican senators, all of them major figures in the confirmation battle over Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh.

 

β€œThese are serious offenses that were directed at one of the cornerstones of American democracy,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Demian Ahn.

 

He said Mr. Cosko was β€œcaught in the act” of breaking into the office of Sen. Maggie Hassan, a New Hampshire Democrat for whom he had worked until being ousted earlier this year. Mr. Ahn said Mr. Cosko had served as a tech staffer with administrative rights in Ms. Hassan’s office, suggesting he had access to more sensitive information. And he had a graduate degree in information technology.

 

After being confronted by a Hassan staffer who apparently knew him from before, and knew he wasn’t supposed to be in the office, Mr. Cosko sent messages threatening the staffer and warning he had more embarrassing information he would release in retaliation, police say.

 

Mr. Ahn said when police searched his home, storage unit and car they did find plans to target other lawmakers, and also found notes he had written to himself laying out a checklist for trying to get rid of the evidence of his activities.

 

β€œIt is virtually a hackers’ obstruction checklist,” the prosecutor said.

 

The search also turned up powders that tested positive for cocaine and meth, β€œnumerous smoke pipes,” a variety of computers, phones, and tablets, and a Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and X-Box One. Mr. Cosko also had stationery and envelopes from Ms. Hassan’s office, according to the list of items found during the search.

 

Mr. Cosko had been working for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, at the time of the doxing, and the government says he used his official login for at least one of his leaks of information.

 

Ms. Jackson Lee’s office has not responded to multiple inquiries from The Washington Times, though her staff has told Texas newspapers she has fired Mr. Cosko.

 

Mr. Cosko sat at the defense table studying a copy of the indictment against him as his lawyers and the prosecutors argued over the implications of past drug use and a bench warrant that had been issued earlier this decade for his appearance in court.

 

His father was also in attendance, and John Hudley, who argued on behalf of Mr. Cosko, said his mother has decided to retire from her job to devote her time to trying to get her son on a better path.

 

Mr. Hudley challenged the government’s suggestion that Mr. Cosko was a threat, saying that he shouldn’t be held responsible for what other people did with the information he might release.

RecoveringFarmFag here. Ethanol sucks. Ask any small engine repair person. It eats the hell out of gas engine rubber components such as gas lines and is tough on engines overall. It is also a idiotic concept in and of itself. Turn fuel into fertilizer into food into fuel capturing maybe 10% of the BTUs than if you just burned the initial fuel. It also messes with food cost. As the demand and therefore price of corn goes up, so does the cost of wheat its only real viable substitute. American farms like so many other American industries need reform and not subsidies. Subsidies such as ethanol subsidies and subsidies to keep farm land fallow has made millionaires out of so called "farmers". While it is extremely to important to protect real American farmers, family farms and non "factory" farms and especially their skill set which is dying out, THIS IS NOT THE WAY. This is more swamp
