President Trump to Address Nation on Coronavirus at 6 P.M. EST

President Trump announced he will be speaking to the nation at 6 p.m. EST Wednesday on the coronavirus situation. The speech was scheduled after a CDC official on Tuesday urged Americans to be prepared for a breakout as Trump was wrapping up a state visit to India–and as the media and Democrats are attempting to weaponize the virus as an election year issue even though there has not yet been in outbreak in the States. Also, the stock market has taken a hit this week as investors fear a slowing global economy from a potential pandemic.

Trump has already taken several actions to prepare for an outbreak while at the same time he has sought to not panic the public or markets. There have been no deaths in the U.S. from the virus so far and only two cases from transmission, all other cases (total 59) are related to overseas travel.

Trump posted several comments on the virus Wednesday morning and within the past day:

“Low Ratings Fake News MSDNC (Comcast) & @CNN are doing everything possible to make the Caronavirus look as bad as possible, including panicking markets, if possible. Likewise their incompetent Do Nothing Democrat comrades are all talk, no action. USA in great shape! @CDCgov…..I will be having a News Conference at the White House, on this subject, today at 6:00 P.M. CDC representatives, and others, will be there. Thank you!”

On the third day of his extradition hearing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has rebuked the court for preventing him from communicating with his legal team, saying his prosecutors have "100 times more contact hours each day.”

Amid a prosecution argument about whether or not he stands charged with “political offenses” Assange stood and told the court that “the problem is I cannot participate, I cannot privately communicate with my lawyers.”

Judge Vanessa Baraitser responded to the 48-year-old journalist and publisher by saying she would not allow him to address the court: “Mr Assange, generally defendants do not have a voice.”

The Australian continued to try and get his point across so the magistrate adjourned the court for five minutes while the defense team held a ‘private’ meeting.

“The other side must have something like 100 contact hours each day,” Assange said upon the conclusion of the adjournment, before adding that his legal team is being spied on.

“It is your call Madam,” the prosecutors said. Defense counsel Edward Fitzgerald argued that Assange is “no threat to anyone,” adding: “He is a gentle man of an intellectual nature. There’s no reason for him not to sit with us.”

The body of a missing employee at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was found this week in a river nearly two months after his "unusual" disappearance prompted a nationwide search, police announced Thursday.

Timothy Cunningham, an epidemiologist at the CDC, was found in Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta late Tuesday. Fishermen in the area spotted the body along the bank of the river face up. Racing with virtually lightening speed through an infinitely complex and deeply integrated global supply chain anchored in the Red Ponzi, the breakdown of economic activity is already proving that the central banks are not omnipotent after all.

Just as they cannot print antibodies to stop the coronavirus disease, they can’t print raw materials, intermediates, components and sub-assembly to restart broken supply chains. Super-QE wouldn’t do it; double digit subzero rates wouldn’t help; and openmouth forward guidance would only call to mind King Canute shouting at the incoming sea.

It is too early to tell, of course, as to whether the Covid-19 is the Big Bang or if it will be soon wrestled to ground by public health authorities around the planet, thereby eventually relieving the global supply chains of quarantined workers, grounded planes, ships and trains, depleted inventories and paralyzed business decision processes.

But even assuming the latter, the predicate of central bank omnipotence should now be swept into the dustpan of history. Not only can the Fed not repair and revive disrupted supply chains, but it can’t even accomplish the conventional tasks it has defined for itself. Namely, making domestic inflation rise by 2.00% annually and causing output growth to adhere unfailingly to the path of full-employment GDP, world without end.

That’s because in a world of Peak Debt—-$255 trillion globally and $74 trillion in the U.S. alone—the Fed’s policy tools are not only impotent; they are actually malignant.

It is now more than evident that the impact of massive bond-buying/balance sheet expansion (QE) and brutal repression of money market interest rates never goes beyond the canyons of Wall Street. It just inflates, inflates and inflates further the price of financial assets owing to the symbiotic confluence of carry trade speculators on Wall Street and the huge financial engineering joints that have been fostered in the C-suites of corporate America by central bankers.

As a consequence, capital has been artificially drafted into financial speculation and money dealing. At the same time, household and business balance sheets have been deeply impaired in order to live high on the hog today rather than investing for the long haul and positioning to weather the unpredictable vicissitudes of individual and collective life–illness, accidents, wars, pestilence, droughts and plagues, one of which we are now experiencing.

But virtually none of that vaunted “stimulus” makes its way to main street. Neither output, employment nor inflation is materially impacted by the Fed’s incessant interventions and machinations in the financial markets.

The report suggested that Grenell promised Quito that the US would not pursue the death penalty for the self-exiled publisher if it gave the go-ahead for the raid.

California county plans to create special task force to confiscate guns from banned gun owners

Officials hope task force will serve as a reminder to turn in 'troubling people' with guns

Santa Clara County in California has announced a plan to implement a brand-new task force to confiscate firearms from citizens who are not permitted to have them.

The district attorney's office is teaming up with the county's board of supervisors for the project.

What are the details?

On Monday, Santa Clara County officials announced the possible formation of what they call a "County Gun Team."

The sole purpose of the team is to take away firearms from those people who should not have them.

Officials said that approximately 4,600 people annually are court-ordered to turn in their guns, which necessitates the County Gun Team.

Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez requested the county's board of supervisors to fund the new program, to the tune of $427,000 annually, in order to cover attorney and investigator expenses for the new team.

Chavez said she hopes the task force will serve as a reminder to turn in "troubling people" with guns.

San Jose Police Deputy Chief of Investigations Heather Randol is happy with the concept and said she is willing to try almost anything in order to keep citizens safe.

“We're dealing with increasing violent crime involving weapons," Randol said. “Anything that's going to make the community safer by removing illegal weapons is something we support."

“We have officers who are experts in this area," Randol continued. “Our special operations takes each case very seriously. There is a step-by-step process that they go through before they actually serve that warrant."

According to KTVU-TV, gun crimes in domestic violence cases have steadily increased over the past 10 years.

Deputy District Attorney Marisa McKeown added, "Those categories of individuals that have been unfortunately a dangerous gap over the last several years require a dedication of focus so that we can run all of these orders and cross-reference their histories and dangerousness."

Randol added, "We know that any gun that's out there in the hands of someone illegally has the potential for violence."

As Americans Distracted by Trump Tweets, President Quietly Attacks Medical Pot Protections

There has been a proverbial sh*t storm brewing online this week and last as President Donald Trump receives both praise and hatred for his tweets over the Roger Stone sentencing. Trump has repeatedly bashed the jury forewoman publicly over the past week since Stone was sentenced to over three years in prison for obstructing a congressional investigation. As many folks argued over the Stone debacle, behind the scenes, the Trump admin has been taking on medical marijuana — and not in a good way.

Despite what president Trump says to certain crowds on the campaign trail, his actions in office speak far louder than empty promises on the road. Trump has never openly supported marijuana legalization though he said he had no objection to US states legalizing forms of marijuana. When it came time to act, however, he did the opposite.

According to a recent report from the Sun Sentinel, the Trump Administration has proposed removing medical marijuana protections in the 2021 fiscal budget and leaked audio revealed the President’s belief that smoking weed makes you dumb.

What’s more, Marc Lotter, a top Trump campaign spokesperson who serves as director of strategic communications for Trump’s 2020 campaign, was asked about the President’s stance on changing federal cannabis laws, and minced no words when he said the devil’s lettuce has no place in the legal market.

“I think the president is looking at this from a standpoint of a parent—a parent of a young person—to make sure we keep our kids away from drugs,” Lotter said. “They need to be kept illegal. That is the federal policy.”

These remarks are in complete contrast to former statements made by the president on the campaign trail in 2016. Perhaps prison and pharmaceutical lobby dollars flowing into the GOP may be now steering Trump’s decisions.

Trump proposed ending an existing policy that protects state medical marijuana programs from Justice Department interference in addition to a provision that would continue to prohibit the District of Columbia from regulating the sale of marijuana for adult use. This is the opposite of what he said during his first campaign. With WWJ Newsradio 950 in Michigan on March 8, 2016, Trump said “I think it certainly has to be a state — I have not smoked it — it’s got to be a state decision … I do like it, you know, from a medical standpoint … it does do pretty good things. I checked out ClipperData and find they not only track trains but also river based shipments as well. I looked over their leadership and am amazed that they have several "geopolitical analysts" of middle eastern background such as Bachar El Halabi in France focused on Middle East/Africa and Amir Richani focused on South America.

I find it disconcerting that we have a company with a worldwide footprint tracking goods and energy with data for sale to the highest bidder…

ACLU sues Texas towns that declared themselves 'sanctuary cities' for unborn children

'These ordinances are unconstitutional'

In its latest pro-abortion litigation effort, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against seven East Texas towns that declared themselves "sanctuary cities" for unborn children.

The ACLU brought the suit on behalf of two pro-abortion groups, the Lilith Fund and the Texas Equal Access Fund (TEA Fund), saying that their rights to free expression and association are violated by the pro-life ordinances.

The first of the "sanctuary" ordinances listed in Tuesday's lawsuit was passed by the city of Waskom back in June; the other listed cities which followed later are Naples, Joaquin, Tenaha, Rusk, Gary, and Wells.

According to the ACLU of Texas' news release on the lawsuit, the ordinances in question contain language that would outlaw abortion altogether within city limits if the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade is ever overturned, which the 79-page legal complaint argues "misleads residents of these cities as to whether individuals can in fact exercise their right to access abortion."

The lawsuit also contends that the cities' ordinances have dubbed abortion providers and pro-abortion entities as "criminal organizations," which keeps them from clearing up confusion and assisting people with aborting their unborn children.

"As a result of being designated criminal, Plaintiffs are prohibited from operating, speaking, and associating within these cities," the lawsuit contends. "Consequently, Plaintiffs are hampered from countering or clarifying the confusion created by the ordinances as to the legality of abortion services."

"These ordinances are unconstitutional," said ACLU of Texas staff attorney Anjali Salvador in a statement. "Abortion is legal in every state and city in the country. Cities cannot punish pro-abortion organizations for carrying out their important work – especially when they do so in a way that violates the First Amendment."

Mark Dickson, the director of Right to Life East Texas, has been a leading figure in the unborn sanctuary movement in the Lone Star State for months now. Before Waskom passed its initial ordinance, he voiced his frustration to the city council that legislators in Austin weren't passing "meaningful legislation that protects unborn life."

"We have every intention of targeting every part of the state," Dickson told the Texas Tribune last month. "Every city, no matter what size, is valuable."

In a Tuesday facebook post, Dickson derided the ACLU's complaint as "a meritless lawsuit brought to deter and intimidate cities from enacting these ordinances, which are entirely constitutional and consistent with the laws of Texas." He also said, "We have a legal team ready to defend these ordinances at no charge to the cities, and we are prepared to defend all other cities that enact these laws at no charge to the taxpayers."

Pedophile allegations against MPs ‘should have rung alarm bells in govt’ but senior figures turned a blind eye – inquiry

Politicians, including former Conservative PM Margaret Thatcher, police and prosecutors “turned a blind eye” to allegations of child sexual abuse connected to Westminster and ignored victims, an independent inquiry has found.

The 173-page report compiled by the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse dismissed claims of a conspiracy involving an “organised Westminster pedophile network,” but did reveal serious cover-ups by British institutions. The review was published on Tuesday following hearings over the past two years.

The investigation, which went into allegations dating as far back as the 1960s, concluded that “political parties showed themselves, even very recently, to be more concerned about political fallout than safeguarding.” It goes on to say that the honors system “prioritized reputation” over the welfare of victims of the nominated persons.

The findings may prove to be uncomfortable reading for PM Boris Johnson. As recently as March last year, Johnson told LBC radio that money was being "spaffed up the wall" on historical child abuse investigations.

The inquiry was also scathing of the police who “paid little regard to the welfare of sexually exploited children.”

Most notably, the inquiry highlighted how Thatcher — who was UK PM from 1979 to 1990 — and ex-Tory party chairman Norman Tebbit were aware of rumors in the 1980s about MP Peter Morrison having "a penchant for small boys," but did nothing about it.

The report also named Liberal MP Sir Cyril Smith as being known to have a “sexual interest in children,” but who escaped prosecution. The allegations "should have rung alarm bells in government,” it said.

As a result of the investigation Lord Steel announced on Tuesday afternoon his resignation from the Liberal Democrat Party and as a member of the House of Lords. During the inquiries’ proceedings he admitted that he was made aware of child abuse allegations against Smith, but failed to report them.

Creator of the Konami Code Dead at 79

The man behind the world's most famous cheat code has passed away, according to an announcement made via Twitter today (February 26).

Yuji Takenouchi, a composer and sound designer famed for his work on Dark Souls and countless other titles over the last three decades, revealed that his friend Kazuhisa Hashimoto, the creator of the Konami Code, had died at the age of 79.

The Konami Code–up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A–has been used to assist gamers and unlock Easter eggs since its inception in 1986. It was created by Hashimoto during the development of Konami's flagship scrolling shooter Gradius during its port from the arcade to the NES, after he discovered it too difficult to play during testing.

However, he forgot to remove this bypass and soon, gamers discovered that if you paused Gradius and entered the code, every power-up became theirs. While it was initially considered for removal from the title, developers worried that it could effectively break the game, so it stayed in.

It was later, with the release of the brutal Contra, that the Konami Code–and the players that used it in the game–were granted near-immortality. The password granted 30 lives, leading to in-the-know North Americans referring to the lifesaving cheat as the 30 Lives Code.

Since then, the Konami Code has been used in dozens of games, and not just those produced by its titular developer. Alongside other releases in the Gradius and Contra series, the Castlevania, Metal Gear and Dance Dance Revolution franchises have used it to deliver anything from hidden songs and higher difficulties through to Solid Snake chastising the player with a very snippy "Stop fooling around, kid!"

Suspended ABC Reporter Will ‘No Longer’ Cover Politics After Admitting ‘Bosses See No Upside’ In Reporting Fairly

ABC News will not allow its currently suspended correspondent David Wright to report on politics again after he was recorded in a Project Veritas video accusing executives of being biased in the network’s reporting and talking about his dislike of President Donald Trump.

Wright is seen in the video lamenting how he feels ABC News covers Trump. The video was released Wednesday morning. The veteran correspondent “will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns,” an ABC News spokesman said in a statement to the Daily Caller.

“Any action that damages our reputation for fairness and impartiality or gives the appearance of compromising it harms ABC News and the individuals involved,” the statement reads. “David Wright has been suspended, and to avoid any possible appearance of bias, he will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns.”

Wright said in the undercover video that “voters are poorly informed” in part because of the network’s purported refusal to cover Trump appropriately. He alleges that the network carefully crafts its reporting to fit a certain narrative, particularly around Trump.

“I feel terrible about it,” Wright said according to the video. “I feel that the truth suffers, the voters are poorly informed and people also have the opportunity to tune into whatever they want to hear. And so, it’s like there’s no upside in – our bosses don’t see any upside – in doing the job that we’re supposed to do, which is to speak truth to power and hold people to account.”

Wright was suspended shortly before the release of the video.

Opioid Crisis: Scotland Records Highest Rate of Drug Related Deaths in Europe

The British and Scottish governments will meet in Glasglow this week to hold summits on the public health emergency in Scotland, where a record 1,187 people died in drug-related deaths in 2018, up 27 per cent on the year before.

Scotland has the highest number of drug deaths out of any European nation, largely due to the use of opioids paired with other street drugs, particularly benzos. The country has a similar number of overdoses to Germany, despite the massive difference in population size, 5.5 million compared to 83 million.

The latest figures from 2018 show that Scotland has a drug-death rate of 218 per million, four times higher than that of England and Wales, who reported a death rate of 51 per million, according to the BBC.

It is estimated that there are 60,000 active users of hard drugs in the country, representing 1.6 per cent of the adult population.

Dr Andrew McAuley, senior research fellow at Glasgow Caledonian University, said that Scotland has “proportionately way more drug users than the rest of the UK. That ultimately has an obvious impact on the number of drug-related deaths.”

A majority of the deaths were caused by people combining different substances together, typically a mixture of opioids such as heroin or methadone with benzodiazepines like etizolam, which was tied to 548 of the deaths in 2018.

“We see now people taking handfuls of these pills and sometimes they are stronger than they are expecting, or they re-dose more quickly because the effects do not last as long as prescription benzodiazepines,” said Dr McAuley.

Over the past six years, the proliferation of stronger benzodiazepines, so-called “street valium” has skyrocketed in Scotland, replacing prescription pills as the drug of choice.

“Often people might think they are taking diazepam but it may be other much more potent benzodiazepines such as etizolam. It is particularly dangerous when used in combination with other drugs like heroin and even prescribed methadone,” said Dr Saket Priyadarshi of NHS Greater Glasgow.

In response to the public health emergency, the governments of the UK and Scotland will be holding competing summits in Glasgow. The UK government wants to see a crackdown on drug offenders, while the Scottish government is aiming for an increase in addiction treatments, according to the Financial Times.

The ruling Scottish National Party has called for the decriminalisation of the use and possession of drugs, similar to Portugal. In America, the opioid crisis killed a record 72,287 people in 2017 and another 67,367 in 2018, most of whom died as a result of taking heroin or fentanyl.

EU Dismisses Coronavirus Threat, Refuses to Consider Border Control As Virus Spreads Across Europe

The European Union will not impose border controls to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus, despite hundreds of cases being confirmed in Italy and new cases being confirmed across the continent.

The European Commission announced on Monday that it is currently not considering tightening border controls within the Schengen interior open-borders zone in response to the outbreak in Italy, which is now battling the largest outbreak of Coronavirus outside of Asia.

Stella Kyriakides, the EU’s Health and Food Safety Commissioner, told reporters in Brussels that the bloc was outsourcing responsibility for controlling disease in the Union to the World Health Organisation (WHO), which has yet to recommend any border controls in Europe. Consequently, the commission will not impose any restrictions.

“We are facing … an unfolding situation, a complex situation and any decisions made need to be based on risk assessment and scientific advice, and need to be proportionate,” she said according to The Guardian.

“It is important that member states fully respect the advice given from WHO and of course from ECDC, but such decisions concerning travel restrictions will always be member states’ competence and member states’ decisions,” Kyriakides added.

Today the governments of Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Croatia have all reported confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus and an estimated 1,000 tourists are being held under quarantine in a hotel on Tenerife in the Canary Islands after an Italian doctor who was staying in the hotel tested positive for the virus.

In Italy, the epicentre of the European outbreak, there are now 322 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with the death toll reaching 11, reports The Guardian. In an attempt to stop the virus from spreading, Italy has imposed travel restrictions for at least 50,000 people, cancelled the Venice Carnival and has closed business and schools.

In the northern regions of Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Veneto and Piedmont all sporting events have been cancelled in light of the outbreak.

A government source from neighbouring Austria said on Monday that the country will not impose Schengen “general border controls”, but added that: “If we do have a confirmed case, then we will check that again.”

Under the Schengen agreement, singed in 1985, member states of the European Union agreed to enact passport-free travel, allowing people to travel freely throughout the bloc. However, countries are allowed to reimpose border controls in the event of “a serious threat to public policy or internal security”.

During the height of the European Migrant Crisis, eight countries imposed internal border restrictions on travel. The nations of France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Norway have all notified Brussels that they will continue to enforce border checks to combat the threat of terrorism.

Wells Fargo paid more in criminal penalties than it paid in interest to its depositors

Last week Wells Fargo paid the largest fine yet for one of it’s many scandals– $3 billion.

This time, the fine was for opening bank accounts under customers’ names without the customers’ knowledge or consent.

Workers at Wells Fargo did this to boost their own sales goals. They forged customers’ signatures, falsified records, and engaged in outright fraud.

This internal identity theft ended up costing customers millions of dollars in unnecessary fees and overdraft charges. And it went on for fourteen years.

This was no accident, one-off, or a case of a few bad apples. In fact, this wasn’t even close to the only scandal Wells Fargo has been fined for over the past few years.

Wells Fargo also sold customers car insurance they didn’t need, and charged erroneous fees which caused 20,000 cars to be wrongly repossessed.

A computer glitch once caused over 500 Wells Fargo customers to have their houses foreclosed on.

The bank charged 26 times the agreed price foreign currency transactions.

Wells Fargo illegally repossessed vehicles of soldiers who were deployed overseas.

They accidentally charged late fees to more than 100,000 customers when it was the bank that was at fault.

In 2016 employees were caught selling customers’ Social Security Numbers to identity thieves.

Because of all this– and sadly, I’m sure I overlooked a couple scandals– the government has fined Wells Fargo a total of $18 billion since 2012, according to data compiled by the New York Times.

What’s really remarkable about this is that, over the past decade, Wells Fargo has paid a TOTAL of just $2.03 billion in interest to its retail customers.

In other words, the fine that Wells Fargo just got hit with last week is more money than they have paid in interest to their retail checking account customers over the last ten years combined!

Oh yeah… and out of the $3 billion fine, only $500 million will be set aside for the Wells Fargo customers who actually got scammed.

The rest ($2.5 billion) goes to the government.

This pretty much tells you everything you need to know about justice in the financial system: Wells Fargo scams customers for years. Then they finally get caught… and it still takes years to sort it all out in the courts.

By the time they get slapped with the big fine, the government takes most of the money… more money, in fact, than the defrauded customers earned in interest over the previous ten years combined.

Why would any rational person continue to put their money in this system???

We stand in line at the bank to give these people our money, only to have them lie, cheat, and steal whenever they have the opportunity to do so.

They treat people, not like valued customers, but like criminal suspects and dairy cows. They gamble our savings away on whatever investment fad guarantees them fat bonuses, and when it all comes crashing down, they go to the taxpayer with hat in hand claiming that they’re too important to go out of business.

“This sentence demonstrates that law enforcement officers who use their official authority to target and sexually assault individuals in their custody will be held accountable,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division. “The Department of Justice commends the victim who came forward to report this reprehensible conduct, so that this officer’s crimes could see the light of day.”

“The steadfast courage of the victim, together with the FBI’s excellent investigative work, made the successful prosecution possible,” said Michael Bailey, U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. “Davis’ sentence should serve as a warning to officials who breach the public’s trust.”

“The FBI will not tolerate officials who abuse their authority and violate the very people they were sworn to protect,” said Sean Kaul, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office. “We too commend the victim who came forward to report this crime. The FBI will continue to work alongside our state, local, federal, and tribal law enforcement partners to protect all of our communities and hold those who abuse their positions of power, accountable.”

A federal jury convicted Davis last October. Evidence presented at trial established that on Nov. 15, 2016, Davis arrested the victim for driving under the influence. During a nearly two-hour transport to a detention center, Davis pulled over onto the side of the road and sexually assaulted C.A. Another witness testified that he engaged in similar conduct with her five years prior, when he was not a law enforcement officer. A jury found Davis guilty of violating C.A.’s civil rights, abusive sexual contact in Indian Country, and destruction of evidence.

In addition to his prison sentence, Davis will serve 120 months on supervised release. He will also forfeit his law enforcement certification, forfeit his weapons, and be required to register as a sex offender.

The case was investigated by the Flagstaff Resident Agency of the Phoenix Division of the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Abbie Broughton Marsh, and Special Litigation Counsel Fara Gold and Trial Attorney Maura White of the Civil Rights Division.
