Birx said 'there is nothing from the CDC that I can trust' in a White House coronavirus task force meeting

Deborah Birx, the White House's coronavirus task force response coordinator, blasted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a White House coronavirus task force meeting during a discussion on COVID-19 data, according to The Washington Post.

"There is nothing from the CDC that I can trust," she told CDC Director Robert Redfield, two people familiar with the meeting told the newspaper.

The Post reported that Birx and others feared that the CDC's statistics on mortality rate and case counts were inflated by up to 25%.

Birx later told The Post in a statement that "mortality is slowly declining each day."

"To keep with this trend, it is essential that seniors and those with comorbidities shelter in place and that we continue to protect vulnerable communities," she said.

Yet other sources have shown that mortality in the US remains close to 2,000 daily deaths — and does not show a steady downward trajectory, as Birx said.

Recent research has also indicated that COVID-19 deaths have been severely undercounted, both in the US and around the world, particularly in the early stages of the pandemic.

One internal Trump administration model also projected that coronavirus deaths would reach a whopping 3,000 deaths per day by June 1, which is nearly double the current rate of roughly 1,750, according to The New York Times.

Several of The Post's sources described the meeting with Birx and Redfield as "heated," though two other sources disagreed.

According to The Post, Redford defended the CDC in the meeting, but many agreed the agency needed a digital upgrade.

Another flashpoint in the meeting came during a discussion on the drug remdesivir, which has shown promising early results in clinical trials and the Trump administration is distributing to hard-hit states.

According to The Post, one official in the meeting announced that the government had already shipped the drug to seven states. The news reportedly caught Birx and others by surprise, since they had not yet decided which states should be prioritized.

Portugal to take up to 60 unaccompanied migrant children from Greek camps

Portugal is to take up to 60 unaccompanied children from Greek refugee camps, according to Socialist Party lawmaker Isabel Santos, as concern mounts over the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the vulnerable group, Reuters reports.

The children are expected to arrive in Portugal within the next few weeks, Santos was cited by local news agency Lusa as saying during an online conference to celebrate Europe Day. The member of the European Parliament did not specify a date.

At least 5,200 unaccompanied minors live in Greece, many of them under harsh conditions in camps on islands in the Aegean.

Human Rights Watch said the Greek authorities had not done enough to address the “overcrowding and lack of health care, access to adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene products” in the camps to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Portugal, which has reported 27,406 cases of the virus, with 1,126 deaths, said it was willing to take in some children as part of a voluntary European scheme to relocate around 1,600. Other countries, including Germany, Ireland, France and Luxembourg, are also involved in the initiative.

The first relocations took place last month when 12 minors were transferred to Luxembourg, since when Germany has received around 50 children.

Santos, who said Portugal was the first country to offer assistance to Greece, was critical of the European response to the issue, saying the relocation scheme “had failed” since its introduction.

“These children live under bad conditions,” she said. “They live in refugee camps with the triple, quadruple and in many cases up to five times the population they are able to accommodate.”

Hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing conflicts and poverty in countries such as Syria have used Greece as a springboard to gain entry to other European countries.

In February, tens of thousands of migrants tried to enter Greece after Turkey said it would no longer prevent them from doing so.

Turkey now hosts about 3.4 million refugees and migrants, while Greece has about 120,000 who are waiting for asylum applications to be processed.

Mumford, President of the Center for Research on Population and Security. This is the first time that it has been made available to the public.

Because of his position and the length of his tenure, Professor Siegel is considered among the world's foremost authorities on the development of World Health Organization policy. In this interview, he reveals the influence of the Vatican in shaping WHO policy, particularly in blocking adoption of the concept that overpopulation is a grave public-health threat – a concept which, in WHO's early years, enjoyed a broad consensus among member countries.

Without this separation of population dynamics from WHO public-health policy, the Vatican would have found it much more difficult to subsequently manipulate governments on such issues as family planning and abortion. National leaders would have been able to refer to the international consensus, as demonstrated by WHO policy. WHO, they could have insisted, has determined that family planning and abortion – like clean water, good nutrition, and immunizations – are necessary to protect public health.

Professor Siegel decided to speak out on the subject. As he was involved in the WHO at an early stage, his personal experience provides ample evidence that the Vatican influenced WHO policy development from the outset, during the early period of the Interim Commission in 1946. In its 63-year history, this international health body has had a deplorable record in family planning. Its commitment has been minuscule, and even today family planning accounts for only a tiny fraction of its budget.

Professor Siegel joined the World Health Organization in 1946, when it was still in its formative stages – under the umbrella of the United Nations, created just the year before. Because of his earlier work in North America and the Middle East, he was asked, in effect, to be one of WHO's "founding fathers". So he came on board on the senior staff of the Interim Commission. Dr. Brock Chisholm of Canada was the Executive Director of the Commission, which set up the permanent organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Chisholm was chosen to be WHO's first Director General."

Schumer To VA: Why Are You Using An Unproven Drug On Vets With COVID-19?

The Senate’s top Democrat on Sunday called on the Department of Veterans Affairs to explain why it allowed the use of an unproven drug on veterans for the coronavirus, saying patients may have been put at unnecessary risk.

Sen. Charles Schumer of New York said the VA needs to provide Congress more information about a recent bulk order for $208,000 worth of hydroxychloroquine. President Donald Trump has heavily promoted the malaria drug, without evidence, as a treatment for COVID-19.

Schumer's request comes after a whistleblower complaint filed this past week by former Health and Human Services official Rick Bright alleged that the Trump administration, eager for a quick fix to the onslaught of the coronavirus, wanted to “flood” hot spots in New York and New Jersey with the drug. Major veterans organizations have urged VA to explain under what circumstances VA doctors initiate discussion of hydroxychloroquine with veterans as a treatment option.

“There are concerns that they are using this drug when the medical evidence says it doesn’t help and could hurt,” Schumer said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Roy Horn of Legendary Magic Duo ‘Siegfried and Roy’ Dies of Coronavirus

The world lost a Magic Legend on Saturday as the famous Roy of Siegfried and Roy passed away on Friday.

Roy Horn, one-half of the popular Las Vegas animal and magic act Siegfried and Roy, died Friday of complications from the coronavirus, according to his publicist. He was 75.

Roy Uwe Ludwig Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher began their upbeat performances in Europe, later becoming regulars in Las Vegas, where they performed for four decades.

“Roy was a fighter his whole life including during these final days,” Fischbacher said in a statement. “I give my heartfelt appreciation to the team of doctors, nurses and staff at Mountain View Hospital who worked heroically against this insidious virus that ultimately took Roy’s life.”

Their revue ended after Horn was attacked on stage by a white tiger named Mantecore in October 2003, severing his spine.

The attack happened on Horn’s 59th birthday, and an audience member told CNN at the time that Horn “looked like a rag doll in his mouth.” Horn suffered massive blood loss and stroke, and required two surgeries.

Horn believed the attack was a reaction to a stroke and afterward called Mantecore “my lifesaver,” his publicist said.

Horn eventually was able to walk again, but he and Siegfried would only perform together one more time for a benefit before retiring in 2010. He spent the rest of his life traveling, visiting his animals and attending shows and philanthropic events in Las Vegas, the statement said.

FLASHBACK: Barack Obama Pardoned a Former General Who Lied to the FBI

In a leaked phone conversation recording with former members of his administration released last week, Barack Obama claimed that the “rule of law is at risk” because of the “unprecedented” move by the Justice Department to drop charges against Michael Flynn, who was the victim of a perjury trap set up by officials in the FBI. Flynn was coerced into pleading guilty to lying to FBI officials.

“The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn,” Obama said. “And the fact that there is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic — not just institutional norms — but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk. And when you start moving in those directions, it can accelerate pretty quickly as we’ve seen in other places.”

But, in 2017, just days before leaving office, Barack Obama pardoned retired Marine Corps general James E. Cartwright, who pleaded guilty to charges of lying to the FBI.

Cartwright served as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Obama, and was “a key member of Mr. Obama’s national security team in his first term and earned a reputation as the president’s favorite general,” according to the New York Times. Cartwright had leaked classified information regarding Iran’s nuclear program to the media and lied to FBI officials investigating those leaks. He faced up to two years in prison before Obama pardoned him.

General Cartwright left government in 2011. The leak investigation that ensnared him began in June 2012, when David E. Sanger, a reporter for The New York Times, published a book, “Confront and Conceal,” and an article in The Times that described Operation Olympic Games, an American-Israeli covert effort to sabotage Iranian nuclear centrifuges with a computer virus. F.B.I. agents came to believe that General Cartwright had also been a source for a February 2012 Newsweek article that discussed cyberattacks against Iran.

But when F.B.I. agents interviewed the retired general about the book and articles, he initially lied about his discussions with the journalists, according to a government sentencing memo.

The memo said the agents showed the general emails that contradicted his account, and he passed out and was hospitalized. Several days later, when the interview resumed, he changed his account of the discussions.

Obama reportedly based his decision to pardon the former general on Cartwright’s “description of his motive, as well as because of a letter by Mr. Sanger saying that he had already learned about the program before speaking to the general and that the conversation with the general informed his thinking about which information to withhold.”

Cartwright had only pleaded guilty to misleading the FBI, not to disclosing classified information.

General Flynn’s case, however, was dropped following revelations that Obama officials in the FBI had set up a perjury trap for him in order to get him fired as a Trump adviser. Obama officials also withheld exculpatory evidence, launched and carried out a bogus investigation over claims of Russian collusion of where there was no empirical evidence.

But, according to Obama, dropping the case against Flynn (who was the victim of entrapment and was pressured into pleading guilty) was an “unprecedented” move that put the rule of law is “at risk.”

Despite the warnings around taking hydroxychloroquine to combat the symptoms of COVID-19, prescriptions in France have increased by as much as 7,000% in certain parts of the country since the pandemic began.

As reported by La Provence, a study looking at the 466 million French prescriptions written since the pandemic began in France, show a huge spike in doctors prescribing the drug. In the last week of March, for instance, over 10,000 people were prescribed hydroxychloroquine in Marseille alone.

Atlanta Mayor on Arbery Shooting: Rhetoric From the White House Gives 'Permission' to Racists

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that rhetoric from the White House gave “permission” to people who are “prone to being racist” and contributed to the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man killed by two white men, in February.

Donald Trump called the shooting of the unarmed jogger a “very disturbing situation” and that “law enforcement is going to take a look at it.”

Arbery was shot by Gregory and Travis McMichael, who suspected Arbery of being involved in several home burglaries. Travis McMichael, the 34-year-old son of Gregory, had been involved in the prosecution of Arbery a few years ago on an unknown charge, although those circumstances have not been made public.

But there’s enough evidence to convict the McMicael’s of lynching, if not murder according to Bottoms.

The Hill:

“The rhetoric that we hear coming out of the White House in many ways, I think many who are prone to being racist are given permission to do it in an overt way in a way we wouldn’t [otherwise] see in 2020,” she said.

Bottoms said if local leadership fails in cities across the country, the Justice Department is supposed to step in and “make sure people are appropriately prosecuted.”

“But we don’t have that leadership at the top right now,” she said. “It’s disheartening. I have four kids, three of whom are African-American boys. They are afraid, they are angry.”

There’s more to this story that has yet to come out, but the verdict is in; guilty of racism. And not just the McMichaels, but Donald Trump as well.

The charge that rhetoric “enables” racists to commit violent, racist acts is absurd. Using that reasoning, no one should ever be able to disagree with any black activist because any counterargument will “enable” racists and white supremacists. It’s a phony argument that resonates with the black community, and not many more.

Frankly, it’s a charge that’s becoming stale. To agree with Bottoms, you have to accept the premise that she alone can discern “racist rhetoric” from the White House. Trump rarely utters anything racial at all and when he comments on race, it’s usually milquetoast bromides that are relatively uncontroversial.

That occasionally gets him in trouble because, apparently, he doesn’t emote enough about his hatred of racism. When he blamed violent, thuggish crazies on both sides for the violence in Charlotte a few years ago, the left went ballistic, saying that Trump “enabled” more violence.

Racists and white supremacists don’t need any encouragement to commit acts of violence. They are perfectly capable of hating all by themselves. That they see Trump as a kindred spirit isn’t the president’s fault, nor is it his responsibility.

Bottoms should stick to commenting on the homegrown racism in Georgia and not try to make every shooting of a black man by white people as representative of something national.

A Jewish pediatrician who was convicted of possessing and distributing some 190,000 child pornography videos and images can serve as a medical supervisor at the Health Ministry’s student health services department, an Israeli court ruled last week:

"Avraham Barkai will be able to pay visits to schools but not treat children in his new position, which a panel of judges at the Nazareth Regional Labor Court determined that he should be allowed to fill, going against the recommendation of the Civil Service Commission.

Barkai was convicted in 2011 of being part of an international child pornography distribution ring and later sentenced to 18 months behind bars. However, the punishment was reduced on appeal to six months of community service, a nine-month suspended sentence and a NIS 20,000 ($5,690) fine.

For over a year up to his conviction, but after he had already been charged, Barkai continued to practice at a Haifa clinic of the Meuhedet HMO after a Health Ministry disciplinary committee ruled that he could continue to see children as long as a parent or nurse was in the room.

The disciplinary committee went on to rule that despite the charges, Barkai did not pose a danger to children as he had not been accused of physical acts against minors. As a result, it ruled that the pediatrician’s license should only be stripped for two years, and by July 2013 Barkai got his license back….

However, senior officials in the Health Ministry have come to Barkai’s defense. In 2014, the Health Ministry’s senior vice president of Administration and Human Resources, Dov Passat, submitted a letter to the disciplinary committee asserting that there should be nothing preventing Barkai from applying for tenders for positions as a pediatrician. The letter was submitted by Barkai as an official position of the Health Ministry to the Petah Tivka Magistrate’s Court, which ruled in 2018 that he be granted an exemption from the ban on employing convicted sex offenders as he does not pose a risk to the public, even if he works as a pediatrician.

In late 2018, a medical board voted unanimously to award Barkai a position as medical supervisor at the Health Ministry’s student health services department in the northern district. The Civil Service Commission subsequently interfered and blocked the appointment, stating in a 2019 hearing that “while the job at hand does not require clinical care for children, its core is oversight of student services and some of its assignments take place on school grounds and during the school day… Taking into account the nature of the offenses of which Dr. Barkai was convicted, [granting him this position] can greatly damage the image of the Civil Service Commission and the public’s confidence in its institutions.” "

Unidentified Gunmen Target Turkish-Backed Sham Corps In Eastern Idlib Once Again

On May 10, unidentified gunmen attacked a headquarters of the Turkish-backed Sham Corps near the town of Binnish in the eastern Idlib countryside.

“Clashes took place between the headquarters’ personnel and the attackers, before the latter run away … There is no information on any casualties until this moment,” the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report.

A series of attacks targeted positions and personnel of the Sham Corps in the southern and eastern Idlib countryside over the last few weeks. In the most recent attack, which occurred on May 7, gunmen attacked a headquarters of the group near the towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya.

In a speech with Enab Baladi, a pro-opposition news outlet, Capt. Naji Mustafa, a spokesman for the Sham Corps, said the attacks are being investigating without providing any additional details on the matter.

Another spokesman for the group, Saif Ra’ad, told Enab Baladi that eight attacks targeted Turkish-backed militants in southern and eastern Idlib in the last few days. Equipment and arms were stolen in some of the attacks.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham was accused of plotting some of the attacks. The group was recently provoked by the Sham Corps’ close work with Turkish forces to reopen the M4 highway. However, there is no evidence confirming the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham involvement in attacks yet.

A Chinese rocket measuring around 100 feet long that launched earlier this month will likely plunge back into Earth’s atmosphere some time Monday, becoming the most massive object in decades to fall out of orbit in an uncontrolled manner.

The core stage of China’s Long March 5B rocket is expected to fall back to Earth unguided after nearly a week in orbit. The Long March 5B rocket launched May 5 with a prototype for a next-generation Chinese crew capsule.

As of Saturday, the rocket stage was circling Earth in an elliptical orbit ranging between 94 miles (152 kilometers) and 167 miles (270 kilometers) in altitude, according to U.S. military tracking data. A prediction issued Saturday by the U.S. military, which tracks objects in orbit, forecasts the rocket’s re-entry in a 24-hour period between 2335 GMT (7:35 p.m. EDT) Sunday and 2335 GMT (7:35 p.m. EDT) Monday.

But uncontrolled re-entries are difficult to predict, and the forecast could change as ground-based radars continue tracking the Long March 5B rocket body in orbit. Changes in atmospheric drag and solar activity could move time of re-entry earlier or later.

A one-minute error in predicting the re-entry time changes the location of potential falling debris by nearly 300 miles, or about 500 kilometers, according to the Aerospace Corp.

The Long March 5B rocket body is in an orbit that flies between 41.1 degrees north and south latitude, meaning the re-entry could occur as far north as around New York City, or as far south as Wellington, New Zealand.

Maj. Cody Chiles, a Combined Force Space Component Command spokesperson, said Friday that the U.S. Space Force’s 18th Space Control Squadron is tracking the Chinese Long March 5B rocket body. The object is approximately 20 meters squared in size, Chiles said in response to an inquiry from Spaceflight Now.

The core stage of the Long March 5B rocket measures around 100 feet (30 meters) long and 16 feet (5 meters) wide.

Some people blog, Henry Kissinger writes and his take on the consequences of the Covid-19 virus are certainly worth analysis. Kissinger as a major insider for generations of American power speaks with a voice that reflects a certain perspective on things from deep within the Beltway that those on the outside cannot entirely see or understand. But we are free to try, because one of the most solidly connected men in the world, in his mid 90s, has decided to speak out on what is to be done after the Coronavirus situation calms down. Let’s take a look at his words and see if we can read the tea leaves.

The overall message of Kissinger’s piece seems to be an appeal to the pre-crisis status quo as the plan for the post crisis world. He wrote…

Nations cohere and flourish on the belief that their institutions can foresee calamity, arrest its impact and restore stability. When the Covid-19 pandemic is over, many countries’ institutions will be perceived as having failed. Whether this judgment is objectively fair is irrelevant. The reality is the world will never be the same after the coronavirus. To argue now about the past only makes it harder to do what has to be done.

It seems as though Kissinger agrees with those like myself that the Coronavirus and its Anti-Globalization effects could be a game changer. Where we disagree is that Ole Henry sees this as a terrible thing indeed.If there is a mass perception that the previous status quo was a failure, it will be the catalyst to choose a different path or at the very least question it.

Just a few months ago the idea that borders would be closed and human movement would be restricted seemed impossible, as it would surely sink the global economy. True we are in an obvious economic downturn, but America is not starving to death despite migrant labor being trapped on one side of the border or the other. Yes some goods are still coming cheap from China, but a quarantined America seems far from falling due to being cut off from two dollar T-shirt supplies. A Globalized Liberal World Order that Kissinger seems to have been working towards almost his entire adult life finally has a counterargument being shoved in the faces of the masses and the elites of the entire world.

Leaders are dealing with the crisis on a largely national basis, but the virus’s society-dissolving effects do not recognize borders. While the assault on human health will – hopefully – be temporary, the political and economic upheaval it has unleashed could last for generations. No country, not even the U.S., can in a purely national effort overcome the virus. Addressing the necessities of the moment must ultimately be coupled with a global collaborative vision and program. If we cannot do both in tandem, we will face the worst of each.

Although one could argue that Globalization has lead to the Coronavirus problem, Kissinger insists that only a big sloppy bucket of more Globalization is the answer. Furthermore, this raises questions. Why exactly can’t the United States deal with this problem? From the discovery of the germ theory of medicine up until the end of the Cold War a non-Globalized world was very capable of vastly extending human life and developing medical wonders Medieval peasants could only dream of. Interestingly in the very next paragraph Kissinger seems to contradict himself…

A new report shows that around the same time, Reade was facing a misdemeanor charge of check fraud — which her attorney says resulted from her writing a bounced check, an issue that she later resolved.

Reports of the misdemeanor charge against Reade had surfaced on social media in recent days, and was confirmed by reporter Ryan Grim of The Intercept. Grim, one of the first to cover Reade’s allegation against Biden, tweeted about the arrest and said that Reade was part of a diversion program that allowed the charges to be dropped if she made up for the bounced check, which she did.

“Tara’s attorney says she paid this off and the charges were dropped, which is generally what would happen with a bounced check charge,” he noted. “Probably some fees thrown in there.”

Legal documents showed that the charge against Reade was filed on August 2, 1993 — just days before her employment at Biden’s Senate office was officially terminated. Reade has said in interviews that she was fired from Biden’s office after having filed a complaint sparked by what she said was sexual harassment in the office.

Reade’s check fraud charge was also highlighted in a report from Townhall, which included court documents showing that the case had been “purged.” Townhall reporter Guy Benson said that while the arrest was a minor issue, the timing of the arrest made it worth reporting in order to fully evaluate her claims against Biden.

Mysterious Fires Burn Iraqi Crops For Second Year In Row (Videos)

For the second year in a row, hundreds of acres of farmlands in the northern, eastern and southern parts of Iraq were set on fire.

Local sources told the London-based New Arab on May 6 that the fires burned hundreds of acers of wheat and barley in the province of Najaf, in the areas of Azim and Muqdadiya in the province of Diyala and in Baiji in the province of Saladin.

“The losses are huge and they [the fires] are wiping out the agricultural season, which excelled with an abundant of crops,” one of the sources told the outlet.

Local farmers are blaming the government for not providing a sufficient protection for the vast farmlands. Shiekh Jamal al-Abaidi from Diyala told the New Arab that the government needs to make efforts to protect the farms.

“The government is looking at these organized fires and doing nothing, as if it is separating these agriculture issues from security issues,” al-Abaidi said.

Meanwhile, the government appears to be less warried. The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture claimed that one of the largest fires hit Najaf crops this year was caused by a faulty generator.

The fires began following an announcement by the government that Iraq will be producing 6 million tons of wheat and barley, which is more than enough to cover the country’s needs for the upcoming year.

Some Iraqi officials, including Salam al-Shammari head of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, believe that some side is trying to keep Iraq an “importer” of crops.

Last year, ISIS claimed responsibility for similar crops fires in Iraq. The terrorist group’s cells used whatever they could place their hands on, from magnifying glasses to improvised-incendiary devices, to start the fires.

The fires were meant as a punishment to farmers, who had refused to pay Zakat [an Islamic income tax] to the terrorist group. The new fires this year were likely also orchestrated by ISIS for the exact same reasons.

I actually think social media gets more blame than it deserves, while the real enemy is more the corporations which create cults around their products using social media. Social media is good in that it shows you "ideal" lives which can encourage someone to better themself in order to work hard to achieve their dreams. The problem is no one has that attitude because they're used to getting everything they want instantly, and when they get older it gets harder and nobody wants to grow up, so they focus only on survival in the moment, and at the end of the day it's the corporations that give them products to feel better.

Congressman Nunes told Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that the original Flynn FBI 302 report used to brief Congress is still ‘missing.’

It was revealed in October former FBI lawyer Lisa Page EDITED General Mike Flynn’s 302 report, then lied to the DOJ about the edits.

A 302 summary report consists of contemporaneous notes taken by an FBI agent when interviewing a subject.

General Flynn’s lawyer Sidney Powell filed a motion in October, 2019 revealing that General Flynn was indeed set up by the FBI with an ambush, damaging leaks and altered 302 reports.

“Lisa Page, Special Counsel to Deputy Director McCabe, resigned; she edited Mr. Flynn’s 302 and was part of a small, high-level group that strategically planned his ambush.” the filing said.

In yet another blow to Joe Biden’s scandal-ridden presidential campaign, a video has emerged from 2008 that shows Biden admitting he was arrested in Ohio after being caught following young female college students to an all-female dorm.

The newly resurfaced clip shows CNN reporting that Biden told a crowd in Ohio that he was “arrested” for following the group of young women to their dorms.

After lightheartedly telling the crowd he was caught “by a cop who arrested me,” he admits such behavior was not allowed “back in those days.”

The clip and the incident occurred on October 15, 2008, when Biden was Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s running mate.

“On our ‘Political Ticker,’ Barack Obama’s running mate playfully admitted he was arrested more than 40 years ago,” CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said in the video.

“Biden joked about it in Ohio,” Blitzer continues.

“He said he was attending a football game between his university and Ohio University, and he mistakenly followed what he called – and I’m quoting now – ‘a lovely group of women’ into an all-female dormitory.”

“Biden says an officer quickly stopped him, noting that men were not allowed inside,” Blitzer added.

“Biden joked it was only a temporary detention.”

Dailywire.com reports: On that same day, CBS News published an article on the alleged remarks that Biden made while speaking to supporters near Ohio University’s campus.

“It’s good to be back in Athens. Now you say ‘Back in Athens, Biden, when were you here?’ Well I went to the University of Delaware and we came out here to play Ohio University,” Biden said, according to CBS News. “Now that was 228 years ago and we did just fine, but the thing I loved about the university was that it was such a beautiful town and we all hung around out afterwards.”

“Now I made a little mistake here that day, I made a little mistake. I wandered in, I met this lovely group of Ohio University…students,” Biden continued. “And uh, without knowing it, I shouldn’t admit this on national television because it’ll reveal that I’m over 60, but I thought that we were gonna go get something to eat. What’s that street you have down there, all you guys? See, I…and so I just said … two young women I had met, said well why don’t you…we’ll be right back, I said well I’ll come with you, and they said okay, and I walked into their dormitory and was immediately accosted by a cop who arrested me because back in those days men were not allowed in women’s dormitories.”

“But I promise you I never breached the first floor and it was only a temporary detention,” Biden continued. “But that’s what I most remember about Athens. So folks look, it’s good to be back here.”

An article on a CNN Political Ticker blog documented Biden’s alleged remarks as being nearly identical to the remarks from the CBS News report.

Here’s how CNN described Biden’s remarks:

Court: Netanyahu trial will not be aired live

But due to corona it will be aired to reporters in next door courtroom.

The trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery on May 24 will not be aired live, the Jerusalem District Court ruled Sunday.

Instead, due to the limited number of persons allowed in the courtroom under coronavirus regulations, the court will allow streaming the proceedings to two adjacent courtrooms for members of the media and some of the defendants’ lawyers.

Some members of the media and partisans on both sides of the political divide had hoped the trial would be aired live the same way that last week’s High Court of Justice proceedings related to Netanyahu were.

The court did not explain whether it had vetoed the live airing or whether one of the parties had opposed it.

Only one lawyer per defendant will be allowed in the main courtroom at a time. Besides Netanyahu, the other defendants on trial are Arnon “Noni” Mozes and Shaul and Iris Elovitch.

Normally, the media and multiple lawyers per defendant would sit in the main courtroom for a trial of this magnitude.

You are very right about the instant gratification age. I work in a field where we pay benefits to employees. These things take a lot of time and work and follow up.

January 5, 2017: A Day that Should Live in Infamy

This week saw two major legal developments: The government withdrew its prosecution of General Michael Flynn and the transcripts of the 2017-2018 secret basement depositions by the House Committee on Intelligence were finally made public. Altogether they show a scandalous miscarriage of justice and media malpractice, which continues to this day, instigated by Barack Obama.

The Flynn Case

This week the Department of Justice announced that it was withdrawing its prosecution case against General Flynn. Former President Obama leaked his talking points to the ever-compliant press flacks and former officials, claiming that there was no precedent for such a dismissal, a claim that was false, to which he added another falsehood – that Flynn had been charged with perjury.

Having the new script in hand, this nonsense was repeated ad nauseam on TV, some press, and the new media.

Law Professor Jonathan Turley swatted it back. (I urge you to clip and save this because this echo chamber may well have convinced those with whom you are related or converse with and it will come in handy.):

President Obama is being quoted on Flynn, saying, "There is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free." It is a curious statement. First and foremost, Flynn was not charged with perjury…

Second, we now know Obama discussed charging Flynn under the Logan Act which has never been used successfully to convict anyone and is flagrantly unconstitutional. Third, this reaffirms reports that Obama was personally invested in this effort. Finally, there is precedent.

There is a specific rule allowing for this motion under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 48(a). There are specific Supreme Court cases like Rinaldi v. United States addressing the standard for such dismissals….

The Justice Department has dismissed cases in the past including the Stevens case. That was requested by President Obama's own Attorney General Eric Holder for the same reason: misconduct by prosecutors. It was done before the same judge, Judge Sullivan. How is that for precedent?

Once again, Obama makes a statement about law which is demonstrably false. In fact, not once to my recalling has he ever made a statement about the law that is correct.

As to the facts, you simply cannot count on media reports, so I will link for you the Government’s Motion to withdraw the case.

Three UN Peacekeepers Killed in Roadside Bomb Explosion in Northern Mali

UN peacekeepers are operating in Mali under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), created by Security Council Resolution 2100 of 25 April 2013 to support political processes in the African country and carry out a number of security-related tasks.

Three UN peacekeepers were killed on 10 May and three wounded when their convoy hit a roadside bomb in northern Mali, Olivier Salgado, the spokesman for the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali, said in a statement.

According to the statement, the peacekeepers were on a routine patrol in Aguelhok commune.

"We will combine all efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for these terrorist acts so that they can answer for their crimes", Mahamat Saleh Annadif, UN mission chief in Mali, said in a statement.

On 25 January 2019, two peacekeepers of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were killed and several others injured after a vehicle belonging to the mission hit a landmine and exploded.

The situation in Mali was destabilised in 2012 when Tuareg militants seized vast territories in the northern part of the country. The conflict escalated even more due to the activities of terrorists and forces loyal to former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, as well as French interference.

The tensions have significantly de-escalated since then; however, sporadic clashes still occur.
