So let's talk a little bit about karma. There are so many things to explain about karma that I don't pretend to know them all, and I won't cover all that I do understand here, but in simplified terms we can say karma is about actions and reactions. Without an action there are no reactions, without a cause there are no effects. So if you stop committing actions, if you stop creating causes, naturally there are no reactions, there are no effects.

 

Drop a rock into a still pond, :KAPLOOSH:, ripples are created. No dropped rock, no ripples. So if we see this physical world as the ripples, the creation, and our thoughts as the rock, what happens when we stop thinking?

 

Now, ripples go out until they hit some kind of edge, whether it's land, other rocks, floating trees or a half-submerged frog, once they reach something what happens? They reverberate back. They reverberate and ripple back to where the rock was dropped, the action was committed, the cause was created.

 

We cannot see all of the ripples we create. We do not know, as non-buddhas, what all the effects and reactions and ripples our thoughts, words and actions will create. If people knew ahead of time who would die in a particular war, those people likely wouldn't volunteer to fight.

 

If we could see when we meet a particular person that they will steal from us, or break our hearts or get us addicted to some narcotic, we would never talk to them. So we must be mindful of our thoughts, words, and actions. We cannot control the reactions and effects we receive except by not creating actions and causes that lead to unfortunate results.

 

Some actions and causes are pretty much destined to cause us to suffer. We hit someone, their big brother shows up the next day with a gun. We get so preoccupied thinking about hating someone, we stub our toe painfully or hit our thumb with a hammer because we are so distracted. So karma does not need to be some mystical force to be felt. It can be as simple as purely physical consequenses, both positive and negative.

 

So why do buddhas tend to eventually sink into motionless meditation? Because by letting go of the desire to produce actions and causes they find less and less reactions and effects reverberating back to them. Mind at rest, body at rest, speech at rest… no more problems except the results of previous actions. Nothing supernatural. Nothing difficult to understand.

I would like now to say what enlightenment isn't. In fact buddhists say there are a few things that can be said about enlightenment, but I'm not going to say most of them. I'm not going to tell you what most of the sayings are because they would create thoughts in your mind about what enlightenment is, and by creating thoughts you are moving away from enlightenment, not towards it.

 

But I will tell you two things the hindus say and one that the buddhists say, because what they say is a negation, and if anything can be useful when talking about enlightenment, negations might. The hindus say: About enlightenment, we can only say "Not this, not this", which means that if you are thinking "Is this enlightenment?" then no, it isn't, because you are still thinking. Not only are you thinking but you are thinking dualisitcally: "this is but that isn't" and enlightenment has no duality. It is non-dual.

 

The second thing the hindus say is that enlightenment is what is realized when there is no longer knowledge (called a known), one who knows knowledge (called a knower), and no one who knows of knowledge or of one who knows of knowledge. So they say "When there is no longer a known, a knower, or one who knows of a known or a knower, that is enlightenment".

 

As long as you think you know, you are thinking. As long as you are thinking of something you are a knower thinking about knowledge. As long as you can conceive in your mind that there is a being who knows of any knowledge you are thinking of a knower and knowledge.

 

So here, the buddhists say simply "Go beyond". Beyond is a misleading term in this case, because there is nothing to go beyond, beyond has a connotation of going farther when really we want to get closer, as in closer within into thoughtlessness, rather than farther out into externalized thoughts. But what they mean when they say go beyond is that as long as you are conceptualizing, whether about a known, a knower, or one who knows of known and knower, let go of that. When they say "If you meet buddha, kill him", they do not mean to use violence. Killing a buddha with violence is perhaps the worst possible karmic deed. What they mean is "If you think you are buddha, go beyond that and let go of that thought". No matter what thought arises, what perception of self arises, let go of it. Let go, and let go, and keep letting go until your mind has no discursive thoughts, obscurations, habits, patterns or illusions.

 

Just keep letting go.

 

And so I cannot say, no one can say, what enlightenment is, but this is perhaps all I can safely say of what enlightenment isn't.

 

So when I say a bodhisattva is like a soldier marching towards an unbeatable enemy you are not "buddha's soldier going off to fight in a war against demons" or any of this nonsense. The march is the march to constant meditation: thoughtlessness. Lack of ego, lack of grasping at or identifying with a self, including not grasping at an enlightened self. Go beyond all that, let go of all that. Let go of thinking about bodhisattvas and marching and buddhas and enlightenment.

 

The unbeatable enemy is the mind. It cannot be defeated with words, thoughts, actions, fists, sharp stones, pointy sticks, knives, guns, tanks or missiles. It is quite unassailable. But if you stop thinking, it disappears. That is the march, that is the battle: Letting go of thoughts completely so you can just be.

I work in a democrat run state in the health department. The masks do nothing to stop the spread of the virus. Studies have proven that after 5minutes a mask is saturated and any disturbance causes the virus to spread just like with a cough or sneeze. The investigation was initiated in the wake of numerous media reports that have raised questions and concerns about whether the company is collecting and using personal information without consent.

 

Media reports have stated that Clearview AI is using its technology to collect images and make facial recognition available to law enforcement for the purposes of identifying individuals. The company has also claimed to be providing its services to financial institutions.

 

The four privacy regulators will examine whether the organization’s practices are in compliance with Canadian privacy legislation.

 

In the case of OPC this would include the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

La CAI will investigate compliance with the Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector and the Act to Establish a Legal Framework for Information Technology in Québec.

OIPC BC will investigate compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act.

OIPC AB will investigate compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act.

I have lived in Asia for over two decades. Spent quite a few years as a younger man studying the Mahayana Buddhist tradition(s) in particular, even going so far as to live in a temple for the better part of a year.

 

My conclusion is that what you're going on about is very seductive intellectually for certain kinds of minds.

 

Most practicing Buddhists don't give two shits about any of that. They are content if they can keep suffering to a minimum and live out decent lives just like anybody.

 

The fact is that if you practice "no thinking" for too long and too often, you will eventually suffer brain damage. This is a result of neuroplasticity. You should look this up.

 

Meditation should primarily be about moment to moment awareness of all physical and mental states, a practice of watching with pronounced detachment, i.e. "There is anger" instead of "I am angry". This does not require a cushion. It can be done anywhere, anytime, and thoughts are just fine; they are observed just as any other "weather" by the "Watcher".

 

Seriously, Buddhist meditation practices irresponsibly applied can cause insanity. I have seen it. Cessation of thinking is NOT in any way a component of "attaining" anything worthy of attainment.

Nobu, the posh, high-end restaurant and hotel chain — backed by left-wing actor and raging Trump-basher Robert De Niro — took more than a dozen loans from the Trump administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

 

In DeNiro’s eyes, President Trump is a “mean-spirited, soulless, amoral, abusive con-artist son of a bitch.” But that didn’t stop one of the actor’s prime investments from using the Trump administration’s loan program for cash, a loan program meant to help keep small business wrecked by the Chinese coronavirus financially afloat.

 

The Nobu chain of luxury restaurants and hotels took 14 loans from the U.S. small business relief program for as much as $28 million, which went toward properties across the country, from California, to Texas, to New York, according to a report by CNBC. Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa — the celebrity chef and owner of the restaurant chain — has a net worth of $200 million. Meanwhile, Robert De Niro — who co-founded it — is worth an estimated $500 million.

 

Restaurants were among the biggest recipients of PPP loans, which were part of the government’s response to financial difficulties that businesses faced during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. The report added that U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said that the program was not meant to go toward companies that could reasonably tap other forms of capital during the pandemic.

 

The luxury restaurant chain was founded by De Niro, Matsuhisa, and film producer Meir Teper, who combined are estimated to have a net worth of roughly $700 million.

 

The Nobu group appears to have garnered at least $11 million and as much as $28 million from PPP loans, making it one of the bigger beneficiaries of the program. And the luxury group is not the only well-funded chain to have received government bailouts.

 

P.F. Chang’s, Five Guys hamburgers. and Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits have also received multimillion-dollar loans. Cafe business Bluestone Lane was also given a loan worth between $5 million and $10 million.

 

The report added that franchisees of both McDonald’s and Wendy’s also appeared on the list and in some cases received loans of more than $150,000.

Russia detains ex-journalist, accusing him of passing secrets to West

 

Russian security forces detained a former journalist who works as an aide to the head of Russia’s space agency on Tuesday and accused him of treason, saying he had passed military secrets to an unnamed NATO power.

 

Footage released by the FSB security service showed Ivan Safronov being detained outside his Moscow flat by armed plain clothes agents who searched him before putting him into a van.

 

Safronov, who has covered military affairs for two national newspapers, faces up to two decades in jail if found guilty. His trial is expected to be held behind closed doors because of its sensitive nature.

 

Roscosmos, Russia’s space agency, said the case against Safronov was not linked to his work as a media advisor to Dmitry Rogozin, the agency’s director general. Safronov only started work there in May.

 

Rogozin told the TASS news agency Safronov did not have access to secret information.

 

The FSB Security Service accused Safronov of working for an unnamed foreign intelligence service.

 

“Safronov, carrying out tasks for one of the NATO countries’ intelligence services, gathered and handed over to its representative state secrets and information about military-technical cooperation and about the defence and security of the Russian Federation,” the FSB said in a statement.

 

Lawyer Oleg Eliseyev said Safronov was at the FSB’s detention facility but he had not yet been given any access to his client.

 

Safronov previously worked as a journalist for the daily newspapers Kommersant and Vedomosti, and former colleagues took to social media to decry his detention.

 

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he did not believe the charges against Safronov were related to his previous work as a journalist, which he praised.

 

“But unfortunately such accusations have been made. We know that our counter-intelligence service has a lot of work, many concerns, and they are doing a very good job,” said Peskov.

 

Citing a legal source, TASS reported last year that prosecutors wanted to bring a civil case against Kommersant for disclosing an unspecified state secret.

 

The Russian online news portal the Bell said at the time that an article which Safronov had worked on had subsequently disappeared from Kommersant’s site.

 

The article, which remains unavailable, said Egypt had signed a deal with Russia to buy more than 20 Sukhoi SU-35 fighter jets.

 

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo subsequently threatened Egypt with sanctions if it went ahead with the purchase.

 

Safronov said he was forced to quit Kommersant last year after the newspaper’s publishing house took issue with an article which suggested that the chairwoman of the upper house of parliament might leave her post. Russian space official Safronov arrested for treason

 

A spokesman for the head of the Russian space agency has been arrested for treason, the agency says.

 

Roskosmos said in a statement (in Russian) that former journalist Ivan Safronov's arrest was not linked to his current job there.

 

Russian security service the FSB said he was suspected of espionage for a Nato country, Ria news agency said.

 

Safronov used to be a military reporter at the business dailies Kommersant and Vedomosti.

 

However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the BBC: "As far as we know this is not linked to his prior journalistic activity in any way."

 

Safronov joined Roskosmos as information adviser to director general Dmitry Rogozin in the middle of May.

 

The space agency said it was helping investigators with their inquiries.

 

The former journalist faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted.

 

Ria quoted an FSB statement as saying Safronov was believed to have been working for the security services of an unspecified Nato country.

 

"He gathered and passed to its representative classified information about military-technical co-operation, defence and security of the Russian Federation," it said.

 

Interfax news agency quoted an FSB source as saying Safronov was called in for questioning by the FSB a year ago but there was no suggestion of criminal charges at the time.

 

However, in June 2019, court proceedings were held over the alleged disclosure by Kommersant of information constituting a state secret.

 

The information reportedly had to do with an article co-authored by Safronov about Russia's deliveries of Su-35 fighter aircraft to Egypt. The report was later removed from the Kommersant website.

 

By the time of the court case, Safronov had been sacked from the newspaper for an article he worked on suggesting that Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko was about to leave her post.

 

The entire politics desk of the paper resigned in protest at the dismissal.

 

Safronov's father, also named Ivan, was a well-known military commentator at Kommersant.

 

He died after falling from the fifth floor of a Moscow apartment building in 2007.

 

Ivan Safronov senior had been investigating claims of planned Russian arms sales to Syria and Iran at the time of his death, Kommersant said.

Good morning friends.

 

I've come on here asking for help several times, and here I am again.

 

Last time I was seeking help getting over irrational fears, which has been alleviated, due in most part to the "play doom" suggestion. I still need to finish it, but got into New Vegas instead.

 

So lately I've had a few signs and thoughts that show me that I really want to get more into the mystical aspects of life, I've yet to read the psychic defense handbook in full, but I will make that a priority now.

 

Can anyone suggest me some more material to read, besides the Law of One which I've already read several times, to learn more about magic, spirits and the more mystical aspects of life after I have read the handbook?

The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex have agreed to divide the future proceeds of their mother’s memorial fund between them as part of the separation of the brothers’ charitable activities.

 

According to financial documents, an agreement was signed in December last year between the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the now abandoned Sussex Royal foundation.

 

It was agreed just under a month before Prince Harry and Meghan announced they intended to step back as senior members of the royal family and become financially independent.

 

In April 2013, the Royal Foundation charity assumed legal control of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund to safeguard any future income upon the ending of its operations.

 

The fund is no longer actively fundraising, but it is understood to occasionally receive some legacies and donations, with the bulk of its money originally going to charities chosen by William and Harry.

 

The Royal Foundation had operated under the names of the Sussexes and Cambridges, but in June last year Harry and Meghan revealed they were to formally split from their joint charity.

 

It was renamed the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, while the separate, but now defunct, Sussex Royal foundation was established.

 

The Royal Foundation’s report and consolidated financial statements for the year ending 31 December 2019 said: “On 18 December 2019, an agreement was signed with the Sussex Royal Foundation by which the Royal Foundation intended to grant half of the net future proceeds received by the Diana Fund to Sussex Royal.

 

“In March 2020 The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would no longer be operating Sussex Royal as their primary philanthropic vehicle in the UK and accordingly their share of the net income will instead be donated to another charity of the Duke of Sussex’s choosing.”

 

According to the document, in 2019 the Royal Foundation received £21,346 from The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund – close to the £21,583 received in 2018.

 

It is understood Harry has asked for his share of the funds to go to Sentebale, a charity he founded to help the victims of extreme poverty and HIV/Aids in Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi.

 

The Royal Foundation annual report revealed that an unrestricted grant of £145,000 was awarded to Sussex Royal to facilitate its creation.

 

Meanwhile, a restricted grant of £100,000 was also awarded to Sussex Royal for the development of Harry’s sustainable tourism programme Travalyst.

 

As part of their decision to “leave the charity”, the Royal Foundation said it had also agreed to provide “a home for legacy projects set up by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.

 

This includes the Empowering Communities and Full Effect programmes, which combat youth violence in London and Nottingham and provide grant funding to a community kitchen in west London.

 

The Endeavour Fund was transferred to the Invictus Games Foundation, while the Coach Core programme has become a new charity.

 

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were formally winding up their UK foundation as they press ahead with their global charitable body, Archewell.

 

The couple, who are now living in Los Angeles after quitting as senior working royalty in March, have been establishing the new charitable organisation over the past few months, whose name comes from the Greek word for “source of action” and mirrors the name of the couple’s son, Archie.

 

The Royal Foundation said it remained the primary philanthropic vehicle for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Aussies doing the first clinical trial for a coronavirus vaccine get a decent sum for their time — but there are lots of rules they need to follow.

 

Australians taking part in one of the world’s first coronavirus vaccine trials will get up to $2350 for their time — but their participation comes with many rules.

Linear associate medical director Lara Hatchuel said the hope was participants would build up a strong immune response so if they were infected with the virus their body knew what to do.

 

“A small proportion of our participants will get a placebo,” she told 7.30.

 

“The investigator, the study teams, the clinic team and the participant are not aware of whether they have received a placebo or the vaccine itself.”

 

There are now 17 vaccines that have reached the clinical evaluation stage around the world, with more than 100 that are preclinical.

 

This vaccine is similar to several others, including the one developed by the University of Queensland.

 

Global biotechnology company CSL will further develop, manufacture and distribute UQ’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate.

 

Early preclinical trials showed that their vaccine candidate produced high levels of antibodies that can neutralise the virus, with phase 1 safety trials set to happen in Brisbane this month.

 

Should clinical trials be successful, a vaccine could be available in 2021.

I've had tinnitus for a few years now, It's like someone letting air escape from a tire, this sort of high pitched whistling, it happens 24/7, but there are times that it's that bad that I have to stop whatever I'm doing and slap my ear or put my fingers in them….It doesn't stop it however, I just notice at that time that something different is happening somewhere. I can hear police or amburlace vehicles long before other people when they have their sirens on…..The strange thing is, I'm deaf in the ear that I have tinnitus in…..It's like I have superpower of picking up soundwaves, high pitched ones, but I can't hear at all in that ear.

 

I try not to think about the whistling, but when I do it's annoying like hell.

Yes, for about the last year or so. Not a tapping, but a low level fx, almost like a diesel engine running far in the distance. Very annoying. I cut the power to my house to see if it was possibly something coming from an appliance or thru the electrical wiring in the house. The sound went away, and came back when I put the power back on. Yet I can not locate a specific appliance involved.

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – A recent study found San Francisco and Oakland rank as the top-most gentrified cities in the United States.

The report, published by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, used data from the U.S. Census Bureau to rank cities on gentrification during a five-year period ending in 2017.

The study focused on metrics related to income, home value and education level to assess neighborhood-level gentrification.

Democrats on Capitol Hill have introduced a bill championed by anti-gun advocates to strictly regulate machines designed for the manufacturing of firearm frames or receivers.

 

The measure, titled the “Stop Home Manufacture of Ghost Guns Act of 2020,’’ would ban ownership of what the bill terms a “firearms manufacturing device” unless the tool is in the hands of a federally licensed firearm maker or of a business that produces such machines for use by FFLs.

 

Confusingly, the broad new definition to be added to federal code would place the regulation on “a device designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be used primarily to make or convert a product into, a frame or receiver for a firearm, and any combination of parts designed or intended for use in making” such a device.

 

While it could be argued by the bill’s sponsors that the measure is aimed at high-profile desktop milling machines like the Ghost Gunner and similar devices, it should be pointed out that there are dozens of different brands of hobbyist-level mini CNC machines for sale both online and at hardware outlet chains such as Harbor Freight that can be used in an array of metal and polymer fabrication work to include producing firearm frames or receivers. This suggests the bill’s sponsors may not be aware of what they are trying to accomplish, or, worse, are being coy with the scope of the legislation.

 

Moreover, such mills are not even needed in many cases. A variety of 20th Century firearms, such as STEN guns and the Luty SMG were specifically designed to be crafted in garage-level workshops with simple handtools. Guns such as the AK have had their receivers made from a shovel in recent years. Today, a host of commercially-available 3D printers can produce a range of polymer or, through metal sintering, aluminum firearm frames. These plans are widely shared.

 

Further, while NFA rules apply to home-built guns, firearms outside of NFA restrictions can legally be made by anyone who can possess them under the law.

 

With that being said, it is unsure just what a “firearms manufacturing device” may be under the proposed bill, a definition that could be far in scope and, like most gun control regulations, have little actual effect on crime. Nonetheless, the bill’s backers are sure that they are on the right track when it comes to adding a new law to the books.

 

“It is time for Congress to ban ghost guns and the flourishing traffic in the technology which manufactures them,” said the bill’s sponsor, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat publically endorsed by Everytown last week. Everytown plans to spend $60 million on the 2020 elections.

 

The bill, entered as H.R. 7468 and referred to the Democrat-controlled House Committee on the Judiciary, also has the fast support of Giffords.

 

“We must stop the proliferation of these easy to make, untraceable guns that can be obtained with no background check, “Adzi Vokhina, Giffords Federal Affairs Director, contends. “Clamping down on the milling machines that make it virtually effortless to create an arsenal of untraceable weapons from a basement or garage is a good place to start.”
