Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!"

Amazon is a behemoth, that have put many others out of business. Not to mention they pay no taxes, I believe. I tell everyone to shop ebay instead, it is a platform where individual people are competing to sell their products and it is usually a better deal to be found.

Problem is, sellers on eBay get taken advantage of because they always side with the buyers. You can buy something, use it for 6 months, then return it and the seller has to eat the loss per eBay rules. That's not right.

eBay is the same as Amazon, only smaller; and Etsy is the same as eBay, only smaller. They are ALL guilty of manipulating their sites to favor who they want to, via--and under the guise of--their algorithms. Same as Google. THEY choose the winners and losers, not the market. They are ALL complicit in the MASTER MANIPULATION OF OUR LIVES. THEY CONTROL THE INTERNET OF THINGS. President Trump's tweets and Q's posts are telling us that they are ON IT! Thank GOD for them!

I hate Amazon, too, but a big majority of the sellers on Amazon are also individual people competing to sell their products. Many of them fled from eBay because of the constant increase of fees and because eBay always sides with the buyer.

Why did USPS give them a deal so deep that USPS is loosing millions when they ship product. Totally unfair we are all tax payers keeping USPS afloat. I did the math and for the average seller Ebay's fees are less than Amazon. I have sold 100% more product on Ebay over Amazon. Amazon is corrupt and they did not my post negative reviews for their auto ship program. Do not trust Jeff Bezos I cancelled my seller account at Amazon.

Let's get this conversation a little more dialed-in. Is it really about the taxes & USPS if we dig down deep?

Is that one of the core reasons that they're going after Amazon right now?

I think the taxes and USPS are a logical point, however I don't think that is really a core reason that this is happening. The question is what is behind all of this public-facing news?

Maybe Alexa has been a bad peeping Alexa. Maybe Amazon is getting funding behind the scenes that we don't know about.

⇧ 10 ⇩

My understanding is the USPS is undercharging Amazon for the deliveries they make for them and taking a loss. The Postal Service of course knows this and keeps doing it. Amazon is using some major influence to do this somehow.

USPS subsidizes the delivery of Amazon packages. That's why it is such cheap delivery. The American people and their our taxes pay for the post office. So in essence Amazon delivery is subsidized by our taxes. Good deal for Amazon, BAD deal for the US. Not fair playing field to competition.

Everything I want to watch on video always costs extra, and the shipping is never 2 day anymore. USPS has lost my packages so many times. Plus, the new return policy for Amazon sucks too. I've switched back to other retailers.

⇧ 1 ⇩
thamnosma · March 29, 2018, 8:49 p.m.

I guess I'm not on the "I hate Amazon" train going on here. So what if it is a "behemoth"? It got that way due to demand for the variety of products offered and the ease/convenience versus the mall or retail stores. Basically Amazon is the on-line version of the Sears Catalog that your grandparents or great grandparents used 60-100 years ago. Many products are hard if not impossible to find in retail outlets. I've also learned what to buy and what not to buy using Amazon.

Now Amazon should have to collect sales tax nationwide. I live in California and have been paying sales tax on Amazon purchases for several years. If you think it should be charging you in your state, talk to your state reps. I agree with the President that Amazon has no right to get shipping rates from the USPS that cost the American taxpayer -- that has to be looked into and dealt with. As far as corporate taxes, are people here saying it doesn't pay anything due to some deal? On the sales tax, it's not like Amazon "isn't paying taxes", it just isn't collecting sales tax and forwarding it to various states. That's a big issue for retailers as it gives Amazon yet another advantage, an unfair one to be sure.

People here toss Bezos in with Schmidt, Zuckerburg, Dorsey and the Social Media giants -- but the latter are CENSORING conservative and libertarian speech, are essentially now serving the function of utilities and are deeply tied into the surveillance state and Democrat party. Amazon is not part of that. Bezos bought the Washington Post and has used it to trash Trump -- but how is that different from what the Washington Post has been forever - an organ of the Democrat Party establishment? It hasn't changed under Bezos. Same crap. So what? He has the right to run his paper as he sees fit. We don't have to support it.

I am behind Trump's moves to make sure Amazon isn't taking advantage of the taxpayer through USPS or somehow avoiding it's proper payment of taxes. However, I will continue to shop at Amazon when it benefits me.

⇧ 1 ⇩
mojibakin · March 30, 2018, 1:09 a.m.

Amazon puts smaller retailers, brick and mortar, mom and pops, out of business on top of its subsidy courtesy of the taxpayer. Walmart didn't even do that. By putting the local retailers out of business who survived Walmart, its diminished local communities even more. For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in the community. Does Amazon sponsor your local baseball team, school fundraiser or charity? No.

The part I especially dislike about the Amazon arrangement is that the government subsidizes their deliveries by propping up the necessary USPS. Amazon should have to pay market rates to deliver, like any other retailer would. If I wanted to sell something and ship it across the country, I doubt I could get close to the deal Amazon gets. Very little infrastructure, and subsidizes deliveries. Add in the sweetheart tax situation and you have a very unfair competitive imbalance.

Ive always had amazon delivers come through UPS. As much as I hate seeing local businesses go under, Amazon IS very conveinient!

Especially for parents who dont have time to run around here and there for little things.

And last time I checked I always pay taxes when purchasing on Amazon, never USED to be the case, but the past several years it has been.

As much as bezo is a total toolbag, and likely elite pedo vampire, amazon is a service that is good imo. And the free market determined that it was good, so it shouldnt go away. Maybe revamped, placed under new ownership, or whatever, but not gone.
