The mind easily succumbs to the totalitarian machinations of the American domestic/global capitalist network as its marketers, advertisers, and politicians/ideologues pound content into the brain via television news, hand-held computers/telephones, the world wide web, social media, and legacy media. How does one account for a meaningful life in American society? What would be contained in a meaningful life’s ledger? How do you determine if you are free and not programmed? Two days of administered freedom at the end of the workweek? A new car? A two-week vacation at the beach? A mammoth flat screen television? A new iPhone? A new season of a television series on Netflix? A college degree? A mortgage on the house? A yearly bonus for productivity? The ability to vote for only two candidates for the President of the United States? An opinion you really believe is yours?

JOE BIDEN WAS on an Amtrak train, making his daily commute from Delaware to Washington, D.C., when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. His wife Jill called him as news began to spread of the attacks, and mid-sentence, she interrupted herself. “Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God,” she said. “Another plane — the other tower.” Biden made it to Washington and fielded a stream of calls from his family telling him to get away from the Capitol after hearing reports that another plane was heading for Congress. Biden, standing in a nearby park, assured his concerned loved ones that he was safe and that he needed to get to work.

 

In the hours after the September 11 attacks began, Biden played a key role in organizing fellow lawmakers to convene in emergency sessions. He also spoke to President George W. Bush, advising him to reject advice from his security detail and return to Washington. Biden had spent the first months of the Bush administration strategizing on how he was going to deal with people like Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney, whom he considered dangerous extremists. Once the attacks happened, Biden told Bush he was at his service. “I’d never seen a single day change the stakes for the country as drastically as 9/11 had,” Biden later recalled. “The way I saw it, this wasn’t just about meeting the challenge of terrorism; it was about taking advantage of an incredible opportunity to improve our internal security and solidify our relations around the world.” Biden said, “I really thought this was the moment we could drive a stake through the heart of the Cheney-Rumsfeld unilateralism.” He was spectacularly wrong. More than that, Biden would aid the very agenda that he claimed to oppose.

 

Biden was a passionate promoter of the Patriot Act and repeatedly claimed that it was based on his proposals from the 1990s, including the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996. He has bragged that he passed earlier surveillance legislation even though “civil libertarians were opposed to it.” And Biden chided his colleagues for not supporting even further-reaching measures that he wanted at the time. “There were those who decided that the threat to Americans was apparently not serious enough to give the president all the changes in law he requested,” Biden said.

 

In his Senate floor speech on October 25, 2001, Biden said, “The anti-terrorism bill we consider today is measured and prudent.” He boasted that the Patriot Act “contains several provisions which are identical or nearly identical to those I previously proposed.” Biden predicted that the Patriot Act “will not upset the balance between strong law enforcement and protection of our valued civil liberties.” He also said the criticisms of the law from the American Civil Liberties Union and other civil liberties groups were “ill-informed and overblown.” From 2001 to 2002, the ACLU gave Biden a lukewarm 60 percent approval rating on civil rights and civil liberties.

JOE BIDEN JOINED in the unanimous Senate vote authorizing the invasion of Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks. During the early period of the occupation, he was aggressive about the role of the United States in reshaping Afghan society and clear about using military force as a tool for statecraft. On a 2002 fact-finding mission to Kabul, Biden called for a long-term international security force to be deployed to the country in order to prevent a return to civil war. “I’m not talking about international peacekeepers. I’m not talking about U.N. blue helmets. I’m talking about people who shoot and kill people,” Biden said. “I’m talking about people who are a bunch of badasses who will come in here with guns and understand that they don’t have to check with anybody before they return fire.”

THIS 1996 PRECURSOR to the Patriot Act was one of Joe Biden’s most consequential pieces of legislation on issues of civil liberties, domestic surveillance, and “counterterrorism” authorities. Biden has repeatedly boasted of his role in the legislation and how it set the stage for the Patriot Act. The American Civil Liberties Union and other rights groups repeatedly denounced the legislation for its gutting of habeas corpus; stripping of the rights of death row prisoners; harsh federal sentencing rules; impact on civil liberties; and grave implications for immigrant rights. The act “is surely one of the worst statutes ever passed by Congress and signed into law by a President,” wrote Yale Law School scholar Lincoln Caplan. “This law gutted the federal writ of habeas corpus, which a federal court can use to order the release of someone wrongly imprisoned.” The ACLU said it “granted the government new powers while at the same time insulating certain enforcement actions — notably death sentences — from meaningful oversight by federal judges.” The ACLU called for the repeal of its habeas corpus provisions, saying they did not provide sufficient rights for prisoners to challenge what they asserted were violations of constitutional rights. The ACLU also said the act set the stage for “major violations of immigrants’ rights” by stripping federal courts of the ability to review individual deportation orders. Biden’s current White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, then a Justice Department lawyer, was a major force in drafting and passing the legislation into law. It was signed by President Bill Clinton in the aftermath of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and enjoyed widespread bipartisan support.

HELMS-BURTON ACT AGAINST CUBA

IN 1996, Joe Biden supported tightening the already devastating U.S. embargo on Cuba through the Helms-Burton Act, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton, though he missed the vote. In addition to tightening economic sanctions against Cuba, it increased support for Cuban exile groups and made it official U.S. policy to support regime change in Cuba. In 2008, Biden stated that he was against “lifting the embargo until there is a response to political prisoners — all the things that are wrong with this Castro administration.” Later, as vice president, Biden backed away from his long-standing support for aggressive U.S.-Cuba policy and supported President Barack Obama’s efforts to normalize diplomatic relations with Cuba. When he ran for president in 2020, Biden said he supported ending trade and travel sanctions against Cuba and vowed to reverse President Donald Trump’s reversal of Obama-era efforts to normalize relations.

the United States and around the world, to enhance law

enforcement investigatory tools, and for other purposes.

Mr. LEAHY. Thank you, Mr. President. I agree with the distinguished

Democratic leader in his request because we do want to have discussion

of this piece of legislation, but there is no question we will vote on

this piece of legislation today and we will pass this legislation

today.

I think it is only fitting the Senator from New York is now in the

chair as we begin discussion of this legislation because her State was

one of those that was badly impacted, terribly impacted, tragically

impacted on September 11, as were the people of New Jersey and

Connecticut, who worked in the World Trade Towers, and, of course,

those at the Pentagon in Virginia, including those in Maryland and the

District of Columbia, and actually the whole Nation.

Today we consider H.R. 3162, the second House-passed version of the

"Uniting and Strengthening of America Act" or "USA Act of 2001."

Senate passage of this measure without amendment will amount to final

passage of this important legislation, and the bill will be sent to the

President for his signature. We complete our work six weeks after the

September 11 attacks and months ahead of final action following the

destruction of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995. The

American people and the Members of this body deserve fast work and

final action.

On October 4, I was pleased to introduce with the Majority Leader,

Senator Daschle, and the Chairmen of the Banking and Intelligence

Committees, as well as the Republican Leader, Senator Lott, and Senator

Hatch and Senator Shelby, the Uniting and Strengthening America, or USA

Act. This was not the bill that I, or any of the sponsors, would have

written if compromise was unnecessary. Nor was it the bill the

Administration had initially proposed and the Attorney General

delivered to us on September 19, at a meeting in the Capitol.

We were able to refine and supplement the Administration's original

proposal in a number of ways in the original USA Act, and have

continued that process in the development of H.R. 3162. The

Administration accepted a number of the practical steps I had

originally proposed on September 19 to improve our security on the

Northern Border, assist our Federal, State and local law enforcement

officers, and provide compensation to the victims of terrorist acts and

to the public safety officers who gave their lives to protect ours.

This final version of the USA Act further improves the compromise by

including additional important checks on the proposed expansion of

government powers that were not contained in the Attorney General's

initial proposal.

Let me outline just ten ways in which we in the bicameral, bipartisan

negotiations were able to supplement and improve this legislation from

the original proposal we received from the Administration.

We improved security on the Northern Border;

We added money laundering;

We added programs to enhance information sharing and coordination

with State and local law enforcement, grants to State and local

governments to respond to bioterrorism, and to increase payments to

families of fallen firefighters, police officers and other public

The threat posed by US terrorism to the security of nations and individuals was outlined in prophetic detail in a document written more than two years ago and disclosed only recently. What was needed for America to dominate much of humanity and the world’s resources, it said, was “some catastrophic and catalysing event - like a new Pearl Harbor”.

 

The attacks of 11 September 2001 provided the “new Pearl Harbor”, described as “the opportunity of ages”. The extremists who have since exploited 11 September come from the era of Ronald Reagan, when far-right groups and “think-tanks” were established to avenge the American “defeat” in Vietnam. In the 1990s, there was an added agenda: to justify the denial of a “peace dividend” following the cold war. The Project for the New American Century was formed, along with the American Enterprise Institute, the Hudson Institute and others that have since merged the ambitions of the Reagan administration with those of the current Bush regime.

 

One of George W Bush’s “thinkers” is Richard Perle. I interviewed Perle when he was advising Reagan; and when he spoke about “total war”, I mistakenly dismissed him as mad. He recently used the term again in describing America’s “war on terror”. “No stages,” he said. “This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq . . . this is entirely the wrong way to go about it. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don’t try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war . . . our children will sing great songs about us years from now.”

 

Perle is one of the founders of the Project for the New American Century, the PNAC. Other founders include Dick Cheney, now vice-president, Donald Rumsfeld, defence secretary, Paul Wolfowitz, deputy defence secretary, I Lewis Libby, Cheney’s chief of staff, William J Bennett, Reagan’s education secretary, and Zalmay Khalilzad, Bush’s ambassador to Afghanistan. These are the modern chartists of American terrorism.

 

The PNAC's seminal report, Rebuilding America’s Defences: strategy, forces and resources for a new century, was a blueprint of American aims in all but name. Two years ago it recommended an increase in arms-spending by $48bn so that Washington could "fight and win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars". This has happened. It said the United States should develop "bunker-buster" nuclear weapons and make "star wars" a national priority. This is happening. It said that, in the event of Bush taking power, Iraq should be a target. And so it is.

 

As for Iraq’s alleged “weapons of mass destruction”, these were dismissed, in so many words, as a convenient excuse, which it is. “While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification,” it says, “the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein.”

 

How has this grand strategy been implemented? A series of articles in the Washington Post, co-authored by Bob Woodward of Watergate fame and based on long interviews with senior members of the Bush administration, reveals how 11 September was manipulated.

 

On the morning of 12 September 2001, without any evidence of who the hijackers were, Rumsfeld demanded that the US attack Iraq. According to Woodward, Rumsfeld told a cabinet meeting that Iraq should be "a principal target of the first round in the war against terrorism". Iraq was temporarily spared only because Colin Powell, the secretary of state, persuaded Bush that "public opinion has to be prepared before a move against Iraq is possible". Afghanistan was chosen as the softer option. If Jonathan Steele's estimate in the Guardian is correct, some 20,000 people in Afghanistan paid the price of this debate with their lives.

 

Time and again, 11 September is described as an "opportunity". In last April's New Yorker, the investigative reporter Nicholas Lemann wrote that Bush's most senior adviser, Condoleezza Rice, told him she had called together senior members of the National Security Council and asked them "to think about 'how do you capitalise on these opportunities'", which she compared with those of "1945 to 1947": the start of the cold war.

 

Since 11 September, America has established bases at the gateways to all the major sources of fossil fuels, especially central Asia. The Unocal oil company is to build a pipeline across Afghanistan. Bush has scrapped the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emissions, the war crimes provisions of the International Criminal Court and the anti-ballistic missile treaty. He has said he will use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states “if necessary”. Under cover of propaganda about Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, the Bush regime is developing new weapons of mass destruction that undermine international treaties on biological and chemical warfare.

 

In the Los Angeles Times, the military analyst William Arkin describes a secret army set up by Donald Rumsfeld, similar to those run by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger and which Congress outlawed. This "super-intelligence support activity" will bring together the "CIA and military covert action, information warfare, and deception". According to a classified document prepared for Rumsfeld, the new organisation, known by its Orwellian moniker as the Proactive Pre-emptive Operations Group, or P2OG, will provoke terrorist attacks which would then require "counter-attack" by the United States on countries "harbouring the terrorists".

 

In other words, innocent people will be killed by the United States. This is reminiscent of Operation Northwoods, the plan put to President Kennedy by his military chiefs for a phoney terrorist campaign - complete with bombings, hijackings, plane crashes and dead Americans - as justification for an invasion of Cuba. Kennedy rejected it. He was assassinated a few months later. Now Rumsfeld has resurrected Northwoods, but with resources undreamt of in 1963 and with no global rival to invite caution.

 

You have to keep reminding yourself this is not fantasy: that truly dangerous men, such as Perle and Rumsfeld and Cheney, have power. The thread running through their ruminations is the importance of the media: “the prioritised task of bringing on board journalists of repute to accept our position”.

 

“Our position” is code for lying. Certainly, as a journalist, I have never known official lying to be more pervasive than today. We may laugh at the vacuities in Tony Blair’s “Iraq dossier” and Jack Straw’s inept lie that Iraq has developed a nuclear bomb (which his minions rushed to “explain”). But the more insidious lies, justifying an unprovoked attack on Iraq and linking it to would-be terrorists who are said to lurk in every Tube station, are routinely channelled as news. They are not news; they are black propaganda.

 

This corruption makes journalists and broadcasters mere ventriloquists’ dummies. An attack on a nation of 22 million suffering people is discussed by liberal commentators as if it were a subject at an academic seminar, at which pieces can be pushed around a map, as the old imperialists used to do.

 

The issue for these humanitarians is not primarily the brutality of modern imperial domination, but how “bad” Saddam Hussein is. There is no admission that their decision to join the war party further seals the fate of perhaps thousands of innocent Iraqis condemned to wait on America’s international death row. Their doublethink will not work. You cannot support murderous piracy in the name of humanitarianism. Moreover, the extremes of American fundamentalism that we now face have been staring at us for too long for those of good heart and sense not to recognise them.

also, if messing with host files it's good to make as few changes as possible in the beginning

that way easy to delete all and replace with original hostfiles

so if i member correctly what they would do with host files is take common addersses and 'change their number'

example: google.com change direct number to porn , netflix.com change direct number (ip) to wrong addy

The U.S. Military Sent a Little Message on the Bomb They Delivered to Terrorists in Afghanistan

 

The U.S. military carried out a pre-emptive strike against an incoming suicide bomb attempt on Sunday. The reported suicide bomb attempt came less than 24 hours after President Biden issued a statement that such an attack was expected.

 

"A U.S. airstrike Sunday targeted a vehicle carrying ‘multiple suicide bombers’ from Afghanistan’s Islamic State affiliate before they could target the ongoing American military evacuation at Kabul’s international airport, ” the AP reported.

 

"There were few initial details about the incident, as well as a rocket that struck a neighborhood just northwest of the airport, killing a child,” the report continued. “The two strikes initially appeared to be separate incidents, though information on both remained scarce.”

 

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid earlier said in a message to journalists that “the U.S. strike targeted a suicide bomber as he drove a vehicle loaded with explosives,” the AP added.

 

"Two American military officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations, called the airstrike successful,” the report added. “They said the strike caused ‘significant secondary explosions’indicating the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material in the vehicle.”

 

Multiple military sources report that the service members left a message for the terrorists on the bomb they would later drop.

Marines Stand Up for Lt. Col. Scheller's Call for 'Accountability'

 

The Marine relieved of his command for using a Facebook video to call for accountability from leadership after the deaths of 13 U.S. service members in the suicide bombing is not backing down.

 

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, a 17-year veteran just three years from full pension, is also garnering some support from fellow Marines for his "real courage" for speaking out, the New York Post reported.

 

"The baby boomer's turn is over," Scheller, 41, told the Post, saying "every generation needs a revolution." "I demand accountability, at all levels. If we don't get it, I'm bringing it."

 

Marines who served under Scheller stood behind him.

 

"It takes real courage to do what he did and that was Stu all the way," Juan Chavez, 33, who served under Scheller 2011-2014, told the Post. "He was a magnificent leader, a breath of fresh air, who was always going to do what's right, even if it goes against the grain."

 

Scheller's father, Stuart Sr., called his son "the real deal, a Marine's Marine."

 

"People will follow him to the ends of the earth," Stuart Scheller Sr. told the Post. "He has put his life on the line for fellow Marines, so putting his career on the line like this does not surprise us."
