TUCSON, Ariz., July 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ – This week the Association of American Physicians & Surgeons submitted additional evidence to a federal court for why interference with hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) should end by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), in AAPS v. FDA, No. 1:20-cv-00493-RJJ-SJB (W.D. Mich.).

"As confirmed by another recent study of thousands of patients at the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan, HCQ is both very safe and highly effective in treating COVID-19, reducing mortality by 50%," AAPS informed the court in its filing. "Countries with underdeveloped health care systems are using HCQ early and attaining far lower mortality than in the United States, where [HHS and the FDA] impede access to HCQ."

Yet most Americans are still unable to obtain HCQ for early treatment of COVID-19, and virtually no Americans are able to access it as preventive medicine. HCQ has been used safely for decades by travelers to protect against malaria, but Americans are dying from COVID-19 while HCQ is withheld from them.

"Citizens of the Philippines, Poland, Israel, and Turkey all have greater access to HCQ than American citizens do," observes AAPS General Counsel Andrew Schlafly. "In Venezuela, HCQ is available over the counter without a prescription, while in the United States pharmacists are prevented from filling prescriptions for HCQ."

AAPS rebuts arguments presented by the FDA, which implied that medications are approved as safe only for certain conditions. In fact, HCQ and most medications have been approved without limitation, such that physicians can prescribe them for any off-label use.

"The mortality rate from COVID-19 in countries that allow access to HCQ is only one-tenth the mortality rate in countries where there is interference with this medication, such as the United States," explains Andrew Schlafly.

AAPS filed this lawsuit to obtain legal redress in support of Trump, by ending the obstruction by the FDA of his policies that would save lives.

You're talking about pill quantity. Back in March, I said - better get the HCQ pill machine cranking out HCQ 24/7. Let's assume that they did that. That means that we have lots of HCQ right now.

It was so very very obvious even in MARCH that you could divide up the population into 2 groups. 1) the group that might get covid but it wouldn't matter because it wasn't that harmful to them and 2) the at risk groups, the old and already sick, who needed to avoid getting covid. And we knew where they lived. They lived in nursing homes. All we needed to do to save lives was to make sure that A) the nursing home patients and B) the health care workers - didn't get covid. And we knew - back in March - that all we really needed to do was get HCQ into the hands of the health care workers at the nursing homes.

And we didn't do it, and many died.

But it wasn't hard to figure out what needed to be done, we had it here in March. I typed a lot of it and others typed a lot of if. I put a lot of HCQ stuff from pubmed here before Trump was talking about it, and so did others. The French study came out about a week before Trump mentioned it, and there were many, including me, who were talking all about it.

Investigation Into Theft of Intellectual Property from GE Leads to Two Guilty Pleas

July 29, 2020

“He thought he was the smartest guy in the room.” That’s how FBI Albany Special Agent Vin Manglavil described Jean Patrice Delia, who pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal trade secrets from General Electric Company (GE). According to Manglavil, Delia was so confident that he believed he could download thousands of proprietary files—including a valuable trade secret—and launch a company to compete against his employer without anyone figuring out what he was up to.

Instead, the FBI’s Albany Field Office spent the better part of seven years uncovering the duplicity of Delia and his business partner, Miguel Sernas, who was a former GE employee.

Special Agent Chris Murphy took over the case in 2017, with the support of Manglavil. The agents sifted through mounds of digital and physical evidence with the help of a team of forensic specialists, intelligence analysts, prosecutors, FBI legal attachés, and partner agencies. GE supported the investigation at every phase.

The investigation showed that Delia and Sernas stole elements of a computer program and mathematical model that GE used to expertly calibrate the turbines used in power plants.

Since GE also manufactured the turbines, they had complete understanding of them. “The company had a skill set and engineering-level details that no one else could offer,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York Wayne Myers.

Because of their expertise, power plant operators from all over the world hired GE’s performance engineers to help their turbines achieve peak performance for the climate and conditions in which they were installed. The service could increase the efficiency of the turbines enough to substantially lower the plants’ operating costs.

Delia worked as a GE performance engineer for eight years. He took a sabbatical in 2009 to pursue a graduate business degree in his native Canada and returned to GE in a slightly different role after completing his studies in 2011.

“This case shows that the FBI continues to work every day, even if it takes several years, to hold criminals accountable for their actions.” Chris Murphy, special agent, FBI Albany

The investigation found that after he returned to GE, Delia began downloading thousands of files from the company’s system, including ones that contained trade secrets. Delia also convinced an employee within the IT department to grant him access to files that he had no legitimate reason to see. Those files contained the proposals and cost models GE used to bid on new work and contracts. Court documents show he collected more than 8,000 files.

In May 2012, GE learned they had an unknown competitor on a bid to service a major power plant in Saudi Arabia. The competing bid came in far under what GE had quoted and at a number that was strangely similar to GE’s base cost for providing the work.

When they looked into their new competitor, GE learned the company had been incorporated in Canada by Delia.

Delia resigned when he was confronted, and the FBI began its investigation soon after.

Agents Murphy and Manglavil said that it was clear from the outset that Delia and Sernas had violated company policies and acted dishonestly, but the agents and prosecutor faced a far higher hurdle in proving that the two had violated federal law by stealing a trade secret.

Over many years, the FBI obtained search warrants for the two men’s email accounts and the servers and cloud storage they used for their new company. But a key break came when they arrested Sernas during a brief layover in Detroit while he was traveling from Mexico to Europe on business for the firm he started with Delia.

“Sernas was traveling on company business, carrying a company laptop that had the GE trade secret files on it,” Murphy said. The investigation also uncovered evidence that Sernas and Delia had sent the calculations over email and uploaded them to cloud storage accounts.

Sernas pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal trade secrets and was sentenced in December 2019 to time served and ordered to pay restitution of $1.4 million to GE. Delia also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal trade secrets and is scheduled to be sentenced next month. He faces up to 87 months in prison under the federal sentencing guidelines.

Murphy said protecting the investments and innovations of American companies is important to the FBI: “This case shows that the FBI continues to work every day, even if it takes several years, to hold criminals accountable for their actions.”

Federal law enforcement officers will continue their mission

Over the past 24 hours, Governor Brown and I have been in regular communication and have agreed to a joint plan to end the violent activity in Portland directed at federal properties and law enforcement officers. That plan includes a robust presence of Oregon State Police in downtown Portland. State and local law enforcement will begin securing properties and streets, especially those surrounding federal properties, that have been under nightly attack for the past two months. Oregon State Police will coordinate with Federal Protective Service (FPS) officers to ensure all federal facilities remain protected and secure.

This plan is possible due to the valiant efforts of the DHS law enforcement officers protecting federal property in Portland from violent activity for the past two months.

The Department will continue to maintain our current, augmented federal law enforcement personnel in Portland until we are assured that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and other federal properties will no longer be attacked and that the seat of justice in Portland will remain secure. This has been our mission and objective since the violent, criminal activity began.

The Department will continue to re-evaluate our security posture in Portland, and should circumstances on the ground significantly improve due to the influx of state and local law enforcement, we anticipate the ability to change our force posture, as we do everyday at our other 9,000 federal properties we protect across the country.

President Trump and this Administration have been consistent in our message throughout the violence in Portland: the violent criminal activity directed towards federal properties and law enforcement will not be tolerated, state and local leaders must step forward and police their communities, and the Department of Homeland Security will not back down from our legal duty to protect federal law enforcement officers and federal properties in the face of such criminal behavior.

17 New Mexico Mayors respond to Governors threats to remove them for not enforcing her brand of Tyranny

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Mayors from around New Mexico are striking back. This after Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham wrote an op-ed threatening to remove them from office if they don’t enforce the public health order.

“We’re trying to express to the governor and her advisors that Roswell is not Rio Rancho it’s not Raton. Each of these communities have their own separate problems and our own solutions. Work with us, don’t work against us,” said Dennis Kintigh, Mayor of Roswell.

The letter sent directly to the governor last Wednesday was written by Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull but was endorsed by another 17 other mayors from all parts of the state. Hobbs Mayor Sam Cobb says they sent the letter because they all feel something needs to be done.

“Each community has individual needs and so that’s what we were trying to do, trying to get these individual needs of our respective constituents addressed,” said Cobb.

“Difficult job she has that our community has to stop, cause people are dying with this disease but to completely close the economy, destroy hundreds if not thousands of small businesses. We should think of different ways to do that,” said Cobb.

In the letter, they say the governor took the unprecedented approach of threatening to remove local officials from office if they don’t enforce the health order. That’s something Roswell mayor and former FBI Agent, Dennis Kintigh, says doesn’t scare him one bit.

“The governor’s comments about trying to defeat us, or coming after us in the future elections is interesting, and I guess I will just fall back on what I used to do for a living, for those of you who know, you know. I’ve been called worse things by more dangerous people,” said Kintigh.

The Markup examined 15,000 recent popular Google Search queries and reportedly found that Google devoted 41 percent of the first page of search results on mobile devices to its own properties and “direct answers” which are web snippets populated with information scraped from other sources, often without their knowledge or consent.

The Markup examined the top 15 percent of the page, which is the equivalent of the first screen seen on an iPhone X, and found that the figure jumped to 63 percent. For one in five searches studied, links to external websites did not appear on the first search screen at all.

U.S. politicians are now pushing tensions into the financial arena, which poses a severe threat to the legitimate interests of Chinese companies listed in New York,” China’s state-run Global Times editorialized.

According to the Global Times, the Trump administration is squandering a golden opportunity created by the “inclusive” capital markets of the Obama era. Although the article quoted analysts who said Chinese companies are more eager than ever to file IPOs in the U.S. and list themselves on the New York Stock Exchange, the Global Times insisted Chinese executives are all making quiet plans to flee back to the “maturing” capital markets of their homeland after the shutdown of the Houston consulate rattled their confidence in the American system.

The Global Times, and all other Chinese state media, insinuate the closing of the Houston consulate was an inexplicable act of random belligerence by the United States, not a carefully considered action based on well-founded concerns about espionage activities coordinated through the diplomatic facility.

Beijing financial regulators are “planning to comb through U.S.-listed Chinese firms and support those willing to return to the A-share or Hong Kong markets,” the Global Times added.

“The Shanghai Stock Exchange in June also issued new regulations to support the return of U.S.-listed Chinese companies to the Shanghai Sci-Tech Innovation Board, or STAR market. A new share index focused on Chinese tech giants has been launched by Hong Kong’s stock market,” the article added.

China might soon have the Hong Kong stock exchange all to itself, as foreign companies flee in droves after Beijing crushed the island’s autonomy with an oppressive national security law. China is making efforts to turn Shanghai into an alternative financial hub, the new front lobby for nervous foreigners who seek lucrative contracts with China, Inc.

The help - wherever it came from - helped reduce the impact of Covid on the company's financial results, the company said.

This story breaks, of course, literally hours after Tesla's billionaire CEO, Elon Musk, took to Twitter to discourage further government aid to U.S. citizens while the topic of a second round of stimulus is currently being debated on Capitol Hill.

Thousands of US troops to begin moving out of Germany within weeks – Pentagon chief

The US will begin redeploying troops stationed in Germany within weeks, Defense Secretary Mark Esper has said. Some 12,000 troops will move – around half will be brought home, and half will move to European countries like Italy.

Esper told reporters on Wednesday that out of 11,900 American soldiers to be moved from Germany, around 6,400 will return to the US, and 5,600 will be redeployed to other NATO countries.

The troops staying in Europe will be moved to Italy and Belgium, US Air Force General Tod Wolters, commander of the US European Command, said.

In addition, the Pentagon will also move its headquarters from Germany’s Stuttgart to Belgium, Esper said.

A fighter squadron and elements of a fighter wing will be repositioned to Italy, moving them closer to the Black Sea region, and [making them] better capable of conducting dynamic force employments and rotational deployments to NATO’s southeastern flank.

The plans follow up on US President Donald Trump’s vow last month to pull out a portion of American troops stationed in Germany. Trump made the move after repeatedly criticizing his NATO ally for failing to increase defense spending.

German officials have called the move politically motivated, criticizing Trump for cutting the US military presence in the country without any consultations with Berlin. Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer argued earlier this month that NATO’s goal of increasing defense spending to two percent of GDP is losing relevance amid the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 outbreak. Last year, the German government promised to hit that spending target by 2031.
