Amateur painter and former President George W. Bush is selling a portrait book of “forty-three individuals who exemplify our proud history as a nation of immigrants.”

The book of portraits is titled, “Out of Many, One,” and it showcases the “people who bring energy, and talent, and faith in the future … may we never forget that immigration is a blessing and a strength,” according to statements from the George. W. Bush Presidential Center.

Bush’s rebuke of the American public comes as polls and debates show that Americans know that legal immigration imposes huge costs on them. But the Bush statement dismissed public opposition to cheap labor migration as “the complications of policy.”

The statements from Bush echo the establishment view that immigration is rocket fuel for investors and for the federal government’s clout in international relations, regardless of the impact on ordinary Americans:

At its core, immigration is a sign of a confident and successful nation. It says something about our country that people all around the world are willing to leave their homes and leave their families and risk everything to come to our country. Their talent and hard work and love of freedom have helped us become the leader of the world. Our generation must ensure that America remains a beacon of liberty and the most hopeful society the world has ever known. We must always be proud to welcome people as fellow Americans. Our new immigrants are just what they’ve always been — people willing to risk everything for the dream of freedom.

Bush’s “Nation of Immigrants” claim was first pushed in the early 1960s when wages were rising rapidly in a popular culture that praised Christian Pilgrims, American settlers, and rugged individualism. But the U.S. government wanted business to have more resources to help win the Cold War. In 2018. Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy wrote:

Few felt it as deeply as President John F. Kennedy. In his 1964 book A Nation of Immigrants, recently re-released, my great-uncle outlines the compelling case for immigration, in economic, moral, and global terms. “The abundant resources of this land provided the foundation for a great nation,” he writes. “But only people could make the opportunity a reality. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have urged the U.S. Postal Service to reverse changes that could negatively affect mail-in voting this election season. Members of Congress also cited significant delays in the delivery of important mail, such as medications, paychecks and absentee ballots for voters.

These changes, which were brought on by the new postmaster general, eliminated overtime for employees and demanded mail be kept until the next day if distribution is running behind schedule.

According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the delivery delays are “unacceptable.”

“We believe these changes, made during the middle of a once-in-a-century pandemic, now threaten the timely delivery of mail, including medicines for seniors, paychecks for workers and absentee ballots for voters, that is essential to millions of Americans,” the two lawmakers wrote in a letter. “While it is true that the Postal Service has and continues to face financial challenges, enacting these policies as cost-cutting or efficiency measures as the COVID-19 public health emergency continues is counterproductive and unacceptable.”

Despite their concerns, the head of the U.S. Postal Service has reaffirmed mail will not be slowed down during the election. On Friday, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy responded to fears that recent cost-cutting measures could hurt the service during the coronavirus pandemic.

He conceded the post office is expecting an unprecedented increase in absentee ballots this year, but claimed the agency has the capability to meet delivery standards.

“Despite any assertions to the contrary, we are not slowing down election mail or any other mail,” said DeJoy. “Instead, we continue to employ a robust and proven process to ensure proper handling of all election mail.”

He went on to say the agency is at the beginning of a transformative process that will streamline the USPS moving forward.

This came after the company announced it had lost a whopping $2.2 billion between April and June this year. Officials have blamed the losses on a decrease in mail volume and a flawed business strategy, but noted package deliveries were up by more than 50%.

The Postal Service has since asked Congress for a $10 billion stimulus, but admitted it wouldn’t improve their financial situation by much.

“Access to an additional $10 billion in borrowing authority will delay the approaching liquidity crisis and is a positive development,” added DeJoy. “However, we remain on an unsustainable path which cannot be solved simply by borrowing money which needs to be paid back with interest, since our current path does not enable us to pay even our current bills, let alone new ones.”

It makes sense once you understand what each stick does. This looks like 15 speed, or possibly a "super 10" transmission with an extra selector for ultra low gear ratios. The left stick is an internal transmission high/low selector. The middle is a standard 5 position gear selector. The right stick is the extra high/low gear selector. The left high/low selector is only used when the right selector stays in high.

With the right and left stick low you go through the first 5 gears using the middle stick like a normal manual transmission.

For gear 6 you put the right selector in to high, leave it there unless accelerating from a complete stop, keep the left in low and move back to position 1. this combination of high and low selectors turns position 1 in to a 6th gear.

Now ill complicate things and turn it in to laymen terms in a moment. The final 10 gears go through the same shift sequence 1-5 but the left stick is added for "in between" gears. In order to use the "in between" gears, the main selector must be in neutral, then you switch left high/low, then you move the main selector accordingly.

so......

left and right stick low + position 1-5 = gears 1-5

for gear 6+ put right stick in high (leave it there), left low, position 1 and progress from there.

once going

position 1 + left stick low = gear 6

position 1 + left stick high = gear 7

position 2 + left stick low = gear 8

position 2 + left stick high = gear 9

position 3 + left stick low = gear 10

position 3 + left stick high = gear 11

position 4 + left stick low = gear 12
