Emptiness

Understanding and differentiating the notion of emptiness, void, or any other of its

linguistic variations is crucial. This word has multiple definitions like Ken Wilber’s example

with the word spiritual. Both lead to spiritual bypass, if not blatant charlatanism, when

undifferentiated. I find that there is a certain characteristic of the generic word emptiness in all

states in both their content and their structure. In my experience, the subtle state was ephemeral

and full of mental thoughts, insights, and other virtual artifacts and even symbolically

represented by the empty dragon imprinted side of the domino. The subtle state contained aspects

characteristic of the use of the word emptiness like the physically ungraspable nature of mental

nuomena, while the structure of the state itself also maintained a certain ambiguity in spite of

clearly having boundaries upon the types of content within it. That is, though I couldn’t directly

perceive its structural boundaries, I perceived them indirectly by noticing where the content

ended. It might be similar to the awareness of Jim Carrey in the Truman Show when his boat

crashes into a wall painted like an endless horizon.

Something similar could be said of the causal state. In this case, the characteristic

emptiness of the state was due to the seeming non-existence of the perspective itself in terms of

the analogy. That is, it was the membrane between the gross and the subtle, so initially moving

back and forth across it, between the gross and the subtle, did not reveal its presence. A

hermeneutical conversation attempting to determine the structure of the states would obviously

conclude that the subtle is the second state. A good analogy would be a glass of oil and water. An

emergent meniscus forms at the intersection of the two, yet there does not seem to be produced a

third form of matter. There is just oil and water. A creature moving between the two liquids

would not notice the membrane until it left the glass and looked back. That is, it would

experience the membrane third after experiencing both the oil and water, although the membrane

structurally remained second or, better said, in the middle. That the creature would notice the

structure of the perspective in relation to the states rather than just the sensation of moving into a

third state requires that it also recognize oil and water objectively instead of subjectively as the

perspectives it has just exited. The creature might see the oil and water but not recognize them as

having just left them. Like love, so they say, you only recognize it when you are in it. That is,

until you start to recognize it from the outside, but perhaps that also suggests that one needs to

know what love is not first. Until we start giving credit to forms with characteristics of

emptiness, such as emergent membranes, which might be more causal to the two sides rather

than caused by their intersection as in a deeper philosophical and phenomenological sense, we

may limit our ability to differentiate not only the structure of consciousness but the structure of

reality itself because of consciousness’ requisite position at the crossroads between reality and

the perspectival meaning.

Beyond the characteristics of states, I also find that there is a need to specify a sense of the

word emptiness when used in the context of the form/emptiness dichotomy. Here, it is more of a

in relation to states was specifically where I saw the crossroads between duality and non-duality,

this project’s topic. Imagining this proposed structure of states, the gross and subtle being the

two sides of the casual instead of the traditionally accepted structure, albeit maintaining the

sequence of sensation, there is a particularly poignant correlation, similarity, and even overlap

between the concept of duality and a new structure of states. This insight, the comparison of the

ontological philosophy of manifestation, duality, with a different proposed structure of

consciousness, is the heart of this project and was the basic gestalt behind my experience. The

gender topic rooted in my own personal suffering was just a motif on that gestalt from which the

rest of my experience unravelled its previous involution. The masculine/feminine structure is a

process of form which is a holographical and fractallic motif on the duality gestalt itself. I see the

form/emptiness dichotomy motifed three-fold in states: gross/subtle, causal(including its two

sides)/witness, and dual(all the states)/nondual.

The previous two definitions are particularly different from the meaning of Emptiness from

eastern meditative traditions such as Vajrayana Buddhism. Among other terms, the term sunyata

describes a very specific idea as the innate purposelessness of the form/emptiness duality

altogether. Here the word is used not to mean volume in relation to form or as a descriptive

characteristic of states but as volume in relation to meaning. Specifically, it means that because

of duality’s lack of ontological truth, the meaning of blind identification with the dualistic world

is nil. According to the traditions, this is the perspective gained upon an identification with the

nondual, but duality must be integrated eventually as one continues living in the dualistic

manifestation. The awakening to this definition is the potential insight catalyzed at the crossroads

of the other two definitions concerning duality and states. These clarifications about the use of

the word emptiness, the distinction between the sequence and structure of states, and their

correlation resulting in an alternative structure were paramount to my research.

Sundance Film Festival Co-Founder Sentenced to Six Years for Child Sex Abuse

Sterling Van Wagenen, who co-founded the Sundance Film Festival,

has been sentenced to at least six years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual abuse of a child.

 

Judge Robert Griffin delivered the sentence in a Utah court on Tuesday.

'He said during the proceeding that he hoped the parole board will keep the 72-year-old Van Wagenen in prison longer than the minimum.

 

Griffin also commended the young victim for reporting that Van Wagenen had touched her on two occasions between 2013 and 2015.

Van Wagenen was charged April 2 with sexually abusing a child starting in 2013 when the child was seven years old.

 

The Sundance Institute issued a statement in April denouncing Van Wagenen and said he has not been connected to the festival since 1993.

 

Van Wagenen had resigned as a film professor in March from the University of Utah after allegedly admitting in a recording to molesting a minor in 1993, according to the Daily Utah Chronicle.

The recording was released to the public by the Truth and Transparency Foundation, which operates the MormonLeaks platform for whistleblowers within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

 

Van Wagenen co-founded Sundance Film Festival

with Robert Redford in 1978

as as the Utah/US Film Festival when Van Wagenen was head of Redford’s production company.

 

The festival officially became the Sundance Film Festival in 1991.

Van Wagenen produced the 1985 drama “The Trip to Bountiful,” for which Geraldine Page won an Academy Award for best actress.

  1. CO2 has a decreasing effect at Log20 rate… means the 400ppm we have now DOUBLES the greenhouse effect of the first 20ppm. We'll have to hit 8,000ppm to double our current greenhouse effect.

 

  1. Plants breathe CO2, their minimum requirement is down around 225-250ppm. Adding more CO2 to the air makes it easier for plants to live (Like running at sea level, vs in Denver or Kenya).

2a. Plants don't have to 'breathe' as hard to get what they need, and so they waste less water.

2b. Professional greenhouses will force their atmospheres up to around 1,000ppm CO2, plants grow around 2x as fast, using 1/2 as much water.

 

The only side effect of massively increasing our CO@ will be the ease with which we can grow food and trees.

 

Everything should be coal fired when you think about it.
