A request to install 39 electric car-charging stations on city-owned lots to be used for free by electric vehicle owners has won the endorsement of the Elgin Sustainability Commission.

 

Kapital Electric, of Bensenville, presented the proposal to the commission in which stations would be placed in five downtown parking lots and at the Eastside Recreation Center, Highlands of Elgin Golf Course and the Bowes Creek Country Club.

 

Car company Tesla would foot the $109,629 installation cost with the proviso that of the 39 stations, 22 would be available only to Tesla owners.

 

Commission members recommended the Elgin City Council approve Kapital’s plan, said Molly Center, city communications specialist and liaison to the commission.

 

“However, they also motioned to discuss in more detail at their June 12 meeting the option to purchase monitoring technology,” Center said. “The technology costs roughly $1,500 per site, and would come out of the commission’s budget. So this would likely go to council following that determination, at the June 27 committee of the whole meeting.”

 

Once the stations are installed, they would become city property, she said. They would be free to use and automatically shut off after a car is fully charged.

 

“They do not have any payment technology,” Center said. “The electricity would be drawn from city-owned electrical boxes, thus absorbed in the city’s regular utility bills,” she said.

 

Elgin currently has one dual charging station provided by ChargePoint located in the Centre parking deck. That station is free for users, and has more technology than those being offered by Tesla, Center said.

 

“The ChargePoint station in the Centre deck allows you to monitor usage, and users can also reserve the stall when open for up to 15 minutes,” she said.

 

In the last year, plug-in drivers used 9,483 kilowatt hours of electricity from the charging stations. At a rate at 5.28 cents per kilowatt hour, the cost to the city was about $500 for a year, Center said.

Electric vehicles are becoming a larger portion of the auto market, and companies such as UPS have added some electric vehicles to their fleets, Aagesen said.

 

Kapital Electric has already installed 22 charging stations for Fox Valley Park District in Aurora, and is in the process of installing 18 for the Glen Ellyn Park District and 22 for the village of Oak Brook, Vice President Don Butler said. They also have a contract to install in 12 in Naperville, replacing some stations and adding new ones, he said.

 

Mayor Dave Kaptain and City Councilman Terry Gavin said they have some qualms about the proposal.

 

Among their concerns is whether the city should be providing free space for Tesla and free electricity to Tesla owners, given that the least expensive model the company sells is $35,000 and many are two or three times that amount.

 

Gavin said, “What’s actually going to be the cost for Elgin to do this?”

 

Butler said most people with plug-in vehicles charge them at home and use charging stations to top off their batteries, usually for an hour or two.

 

“It typically takes around $7 of electricity to charge a Tesla from empty to full, which also takes 10 hours,” Butler said.

 

That said, “Tesla is not going to say you can’t charge” drivers for the electricity they use, he said. Some hotels have deals with Tesla do just that, he said.

 

The benefit for Elgin would be bringing people to the city who seek out free charging stations and who end up spending money in town by shopping, dining and doing other activities, Butler said.

California Deputy District Attorneys Speak Out Against Soros Pouring Millions Into Local Races

A group of deputy district attorneys in California are speaking out against liberal billionaire George Soros pushing large sums of cash into local district attorney races in the state.

 

Soros, who has quietly funded numerous progressive district attorney candidates across the country, recently poured $1.5 million into the California Justice & Public Safety PAC, which his longtime treasurer established to support Geneviéve Jones-Wright, a far-left candidate for district attorney in San Diego County, the Washington Free Beacon reported last week.

 

The PAC has already disbursed hundreds of thousands of dollars on television advertisements, digital advertising, and campaign literature and mailings to support Jones-Wright this month.

 

Now, the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, the professional association for the deputy DAs of Los Angeles County, has released a statement on Soros' involvement in the state, chastising the financier for his "assault on the criminal justice system."

 

"It doesn't just seem as if there's a new assault on criminal justice and public safety every time you turn around. There really is," Michele Hanisee, the president of the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, said in the statement on Soros.

 

"One of the latest, and most disturbing, is occurring right now in San Diego County," she continued. "There, out-of-state billionaire George Soros is bankrolling for district attorney an inexperienced deputy public defender who has never held a management and leadership position in her office. But, she has promised to be soft on crime if elected."

 

"His anointed candidate, to whom he has thrown a whopping $1.5 million, has announced she will never seek the death penalty, refuse to charge those under 25 with crimes that could lead to a life without parole sentence, not charge drug dealers who sell to cops, release accused criminals without bail, and wants to ‘decriminalize' low level offenses by refusing to prosecute them," Hanisee said. "For good measure, she also is in support of closing prisons altogether."

 

Hanisee added that the San Diego County Deputy District Attorney's Association and its political action committee, San Diegans Against Crime, support Summer Stephan, the current district attorney of San Diego County.

 

"We are committed to supporting elected officials who will enhance public safety and use the legislative process to enact reforms, rather than those who promise to ignore laws they don't personally like," Hanisee concluded. "We encourage our members to do the same."

 

An overwhelming majority of the district attorney candidates who Soros has backed across the United States have won due to having a major money advantage over their opponents for such a race.

A man who accused prominent Hollywood movie moguls of operating a pedophile ring has been killed under suspicious circumstances.

Claflin was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and came out as gay the summer before his senior year of high school.

Collins-Rector fled the country in 2006 and has been living abroad ever since.

 

Soon after Claflin flew out to LA, he said he began living in Goddard’s mansion in Beverly Hills, where he claims he fended off constant sexual advances from the filmmaker.

 

One night, Goddard and another man convinced Claflin to inhale nitrous oxide, the first time the teen had used drugs, he claimed in the statement. Claflin said that he passed out and when he awoke, he was being sexually assaulted and drugged further.

As Texas Shooter Killed Unarmed Citizens, FBI Admits Armed Citizens Stopped 4 Recent Mass Shootings

 

On Friday, a deranged teenager broke multiple gun laws—that were in place to prevent exactly what happened—and began shooting up Santa Fe High School in Texas. All the gun control measures in place did not stop a criminal juvenile from obtaining two guns and walking onto his school campus to kill people. What actually stopped him, however, was guns, lots of them.

 

The police officers responding to the shooting were all heavily armed and it was only because of their weapons that they brought in the shooter. Good guys with guns are what stop bad guys with guns.

 

However, police cannot be everywhere all the time. If citizens were disarmed and were forced to rely entirely on police to protect them, rest assured that the bad guys who don’t follow the law would rain terror down on the defenseless population.

 

In fact, according to a recent FBI report, good guys with guns—who are not police officers—have stopped multiple mass shootings, just like the one in Santa Fe, Texas.

 

According to the FBI report, citizens successfully intervened in eight active shooter incidents in 2016 and 2017. These heroic citizens prevented or helped to stop what could’ve been some of the worst shooting incidents in US history.

 

As the report notes, citizens “safely and successfully” ended the shooting by confronting the shooter—not police.

 

“Their selfless actions likely saved many lives,” the report stated.

 

Out of those eight incidents, four of the heroic citizens were carrying legal firearms and stopped the shooters in their tracks. In two of those incidents, the citizens actually exchanged fire with the shooters, illustrating how a properly trained—and armed—citizen can be an effective deterrent in mass shootings.

 

In the other two incidents, the armed citizens held the shooters at gunpoint until police arrived.

 

One of the most high profile cases of citizen intervention in a mass shooting happened in the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas last year.

 

According to The New York Post:

 

The man hailed as a hero for confronting the Texas mass shooter during his rampage is a sharpshooting plumber with no military background — who hit the gunman through a gap in his body armor, according to a report.

 

 

Stephen Willeford managed to shoot Devin Kelley before jumping in another man’s truck and chasing him down, the Daily Mail reported…

 

 

Texas Department of Public Safety chief Freeman Martin said Willeford “grabbed his rifle and engaged the suspect” after Kelley left the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, where he opened fire with an assault rifle and killed 26 people.

 

 

An area resident told the paper that Willeford, an avid biker who attends another church, learned about the shooting when his daughter called to say a man clad in body armor was shooting worshipers.

 

 

The local said that although Willeford has no military background, he didn’t hesitate when he came face to face with the suspect — and managed to squeeze off a round that struck the gunman, who had dropped his Ruger AR-15 variant.

 

On that fateful Sunday morning, the two men were strangers but came together to try and stop an act of heinous evil that likely saved countless lives.

 

In another incident, just nine days after the shooting in Texas, Travis Green began shooting up a Dollar General store in Cheektowaga, New York. A citizen ran down Green with his car, causing him to drop his gun and flee. Countless lives were saved that day.

 

According to the report, there were actually 50 active shooter incidents. In the other incidents, police officers—with guns—moved in to prevent further carnage and 11 of the shooters were killed by police.

 

The FBI defined these incidents as “one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area.” Nearly 10 percent of them were stopped by good guys with guns. Nearly twenty percent were stopped by citizens and not the police.

 

As the gun grabbers begin to use this incident to pass more laws that criminals will not follow and that will disarm law abiding citizens, remember that even the government admits that the thing most likely to stop a bad guy with a gun…is a good guy with a gun.

US To Halt Its ‘Assistance’ Programs In Militant-held Parts of Northwestern Syria – Report

 

On May 19, an unnamed US official told CBC News that the Trump administration will withdraw its assistance from the opposition-held areas in northwestern Syria, which include Idlib governorate and parts of Aleppo, Lattakia and Hama governorates.

 

According to CBC News, tens of millions of dollars will be cut from US efforts in northwestern Syria, including projects for “countering violent extremism, supporting independent society and independent media, strengthening education, and advocating for community policing.”

 

The official revealed to CBC News that the decision to cut off these funds was made through an inter-agency process over the last few weeks. According to the official, these funds will likely be focused on supporting the stabilization of northeastern Syria, the stronghold of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

 

“$200 million of stabilization assistance for Syria is currently under review at the request of the President. Distinct from that amount, U.S. assistance for programs in northwest Syria are being freed up to provide potential increased support for priorities in northeast Syria, as will be determined by the outcome of the ongoing assistance review, including the D-ISIS campaign and stabilization efforts,” an unnamed official of the US State Department told CBS News.

 

Another US official told Reuters that humanitarian assistance for northwestern Syria will not be affected by this decision. The source also confirmed that the humanitarian assistance for Idlib governorate will continue, despite that most of it is controlled by the former branch of al-Qaeda Hay’at Tahrir al-Sahm (HTS).

 

US President Donald Trump froze more than $200 million in funds for recovery efforts in Syria on March 30. Local observers believe that these steps are aimed at limiting the US influence in Syria to the areas that are directly dominated by US-backed forces.

Plot Thickens: Search Warrant for Anthony Weiner’s Laptop Unsealed

 

District Judge Denise Cote unsealed the search warrant for the laptop and other devices of former Congressman Anthony Weiner on Wednesday, May 16.

 

The laptop soon became the center of a major controversy. However, the search warrant suggests the controversy may run deeper still.

 

On Nov. 4, 2016, former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor Erik Prince said “a very well-placed source” at the NYPD told him the NYPD found “damning criminal information” about Clinton on Weiner’s laptop and threatened to release it if FBI tried to sweep it under the rug.

 

The FBI indeed later obtained its own search warrant and looked at the laptop in connection with its investigation into Clinton’s mishandling of classified information as State Secretary.

 

But there was a notable difference between the FBI warrant and the NYPD one.

 

The one obtained by NYPD read, in part: “Depending on circumstances, a complete review of the seized [electronically stored information] may require examination of all of the seized data to evaluate its contents and determine whether the data is responsive to the warrant.”

 

The FBI one read, in part: “Law enforcement personnel will make reasonable efforts to restrict their search to data falling within the categories of evidence specified in the warrant.”

 

That would suggest the NYPD could look at everything, while the FBI investigators worded its warrant in a way that restricted them to look only at data regarding the mishandling of classified information.

 

Here’s what we know about how Clinton’s emails ended up on Weiner’s laptop and what repercussions their discovery meant.

 

Weiner shared the laptop with his estranged wife, Huma Abedin, a close aide to Hillary Clinton since 2000.

 

Hundreds of thousands of emails were stored on the laptop, including thousands from Clinton.

 

“Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to [Weiner] for him,” then-FBI Director James Comey testified at Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on May 3, 2017. “I think, to print out for her, so she could then deliver them to [Clinton].”

 

The existence of the emails was also confirmed in texts between senior FBI attorney Lisa Page and former head of counterintelligence at the FBI, Peter Strzok.

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest child, reportedly met with an emissary representing the princes from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates who wanted to help his father win the 2016 election during the campaign.

 

Trump Jr., who has already faced scrutiny for the June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have damaging political opposition research on Donald Trump’s then-opponent Hillary Clinton, held the meeting at Trump Tower in August 2016 with the emissary, George Nader, and private security contractor Erik Prince, The New York Times reported Saturday. Israeli and apparent social media expert Joel Zamel was also present at the meeting.

 

The meeting could represent another example of the Trump campaign meeting with the representative of a foreign government intent on helping the billionaire claim victory in the 2016 election.

 

Such contact generated Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election in favor of the current president, and Mueller’s team is reportedly looking into the Emirates potential role or influence in the election as well.

 

It is unclear if any action was taken following the meeting, and Trump Jr. stated through a lawyer that nothing occurred afterward.

 

Alan Futerfas, an attorney for Trump Jr., explained to The Times “prior to the 2016 election, Donald Trump Jr. recalls a meeting with Erik Prince, George Nader and another individual who may be Joel Zamel. They pitched Mr. Trump Jr. on a social media platform or marketing strategy. He was not interested and that was the end of it.”

 

Nader, who Newsweek reported was convicted and jailed on child pornography charges in the early 1990s, is presently cooperating with Mueller’s investigation and Prince has long been a controversial figure and whose sister is presently secretary of the Education Department, Betsy Devos.

 

Both Nader and Prince have faced scrutiny over setting up a meeting in the Seychelles in January 2017, just days before Trump’s inauguration, during which Prince met with a Russian tied to Russian President Vladimir Putin over a possible backchannel between the Trump administration and the Kremlin, according to The Washington Post.

 

The revelation follows the release earlier this week of Trump Jr.’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last year, during which he discussed the June 2016 meeting with the Russian lawyer and denied any collusion taking place.
