Anons, I'm thinking that POTUS talking about Presidential pardons and commuting sentences is a way of stirring up the media to talk about how it could be used to guarantee collaborators that they have nothing to fear by staying loyal to the President. For instance–when the media was claiming that Cohn would fold, the first thing that came to my head was "why the fuck would he do that, when POTUS could just pardon him?"

 

So with that logic, a list of people granted pardons and clemency might be a very good source of leads on corruption, right?

Ignoring the Samantha Power bombshell

One of the challenges of Spygate is that it's such a sprawling, complicated tale, filled with competing narratives and motives open to interpretation. We understand that this is a serious situation – possibly the biggest scandal in U.S. history. But how can one get the message across to the average American without his eyes glazing over?

 

To cut through the complexity, it helps to focus on specific actions by individuals that we all can agree are suspect. This brings us to Samantha Power.

 

Of all the political stories from 2017, surely the most curious is this: why is everyone ignoring the bombshell revelations from Samantha Power?

 

As you recall, Power was caught using her security clearance as a U.N. ambassador to review private conversations by U.S. citizens. According to official records, she requested the unmasking of these private citizens over 260 times in 2016 (this was an election year). She was brought before the House Intelligence Committee to explain her actions.

 

Her defense? It wasn't me. Someone else in the Obama White House did this, using her security clearance.

 

There are two possibilities: that she is telling the truth, in which case someone else in the Obama administration is lying. Or she is lying herself.

 

Let's consider the implications if she's lying. Power, a supposed human rights activist and darling of the left, came into her office every day – Monday through Friday, 52 weeks a year – and did some reading. But instead of the New York Times, or her favorite blog, she was reading the transcripts of private conversations of her fellow Americans, wiretapped by federal agents. And not only that, but she made a request each day on average to unmask a U.S. citizen in those transcripts.

 

Why are our supposed human rights activists not horrified? Why is this not a daily banner headline in every major newspaper in the country? I could see the MSM attempting to hide this damning evidence of Obama administration malfeasance, but why are the conservative news outlets not clamoring for answers?

 

Perhaps 2017 just saw too many revelations of government abuse? But this one does not deserve to be forgotten. And if we don't act soon, it will go down the memory hole.

 

Here's how Power's Wiki page spins it: "On May 31, 2017, Power's testimony and relevant records were subpoenaed by the House Intelligence Committee as part of its investigation into the unmasking of Americans whose conversations were inadvertently captured during intelligence surveillance."

 

There is nothing "inadvertent" about a White House official making over 260 unmasking requests during an election year. And lying about it.

 

No one, it seems, is asking even the most basic questions: who was this mysterious, nameless Obama administration official? Why would he use Samantha Power's security clearance to unmask U.S. citizens? What did he have to hide? And if he was researching something that was purely legal, why the necessity for such subterfuge and deceit?

Meanwhile, a search of Beyonce Knowles uncovered her Presidential connections. Beyonce has the same 9th great-grandfather, Hans Heinrich Hirtzel, born in Switzerland in 1619, as President George W. Bush making them tenth cousins once removed and tenth cousins with Former President George H.W. Bush.

 

President Bush is also related to another pop-superstar, Justin Timberlake. They are 9th cousins once removed.

Justice Department tells Lindsey Graham Rod Rosenstein will recuse himself from oversight of Robert Mueller if ‘deemed appropriate’

 

A top Justice Department official has told Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will continue in his oversight role of special counsel Robert Mueller, and will only recuse himself if “deemed appropriate by department officials.”

 

The South Carolina Republican had written to Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller’s probe, asking if he should recuse himself due to a conflict of interest.

 

In a Wednesday letter obtained by the Washington Examiner, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd writes that “investigations of ongoing efforts by foreign agents to influence our government are complex and extraordinarily important.”

 

“Nonetheless, [Rosenstein] would recuse from all or part of any matter if recusal were deemed appropriate by Department officials who are informed about the matter,” wrote Boyd. “Otherwise, he has a responsibility to fulfill his oath to well and faithfully execute the duties of his office.”

Graham is expected to respond to the letter later Wednesday in an interview with Fox News.

Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel in May 2017 after the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

 

Rosenstein is acting attorney general in this situation, and has oversight into every move the Mueller investigation makes. He is also the only DOJ official with constitutional authority to fire the special counsel.

 

Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible links to the Trump campaign. He is also investigating if President Trump obstructed justice when he fired former FBI Director James Comey, which happened less than two weeks before Mueller was appointed.

 

Graham noted that Trump relied on a memo written by Rosenstein to fire Comey, and wondered if that could be the source of a potential Rosenstein-Mueller conflict.

 

Graham's questioning of Rosenstein now makes him one of the lone Senate Republicans who has thus far waded into a tense situation between Trump-allied House Republicans and the Justice Department.

Top Senate Republican unveils bill to overturn Trump tariffs

 

A top Senate Republican unveiled a bipartisan bill Wednesday that would allow Congress to overturn President Trump’s recent burst of tariffs with a simple-majority vote.

 

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker accused Trump of “abusing” the authority to impose tariffs in the name of national security. The legislation presents a challenge to the White House’s argument that steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union hurt U.S. national security, and necessitate tariffs.

 

“If the president truly believes invoking Section 232 is necessary to protect the United States from a genuine threat, he should make the case to Congress and to the American people and do the hard work necessary to secure congressional approval,” Corker, a Tennessee Republican, said Wednesday.

 

Corker’s bill would create a fast-track process for overturning the tariffs. The legislation, if adopted, would create a 60-day period in which Congress could review such tariffs and vote on a resolution of approval.

 

The bill is designed to “guarantee a vote” on the resolution by stipulating that a debate on the resolution cannot be filibustered. And because it “would apply to all Section 232 actions moving forward, as well as those taken within the past two years,” it would ease the path to reversing the president’s most recent trade policies.

 

“In general, these kinds of tariffs are a big mistake, and using national security as an excuse is a bigger mistake,” Sen. Lamar Alexander — another Tennessee Republican who chairs the committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions — said of the bill.

 

Trump’s team defended the tariffs as a necessary tool to force trade reform.

 

“Don’t blame Trump. Blame the nations that have broken away from those conditions,” Larry Kudlow, director of the White House National Economic Council, told reporters Wednesday. “I think free world trade is a very good thing indeed. But it is broken, and President Trump is trying to fix it. And that’s the key point.”

 

But the senators argue that Trump can’t use Section 232 to advance that goal.

“Misconduct by DOJ attorneys is a serious matter and should be investigated by an independent Inspector General, not by other Department attorneys, so there is no real or perceived conflict of interest. This bill ensures that the Justice Department’s inspector general is able to access and independently evaluate allegations of misconduct by Justice Department attorneys,” Grassley said.

 

The Inspector General Access Act of 2018 is identical to the bipartisan Inspector General Access Act of 2015. Both bills amend Section 8E of the Inspector General Act of 1978 by removing the requirement that the DOJ OIG refer all allegations of DOJ attorney misconduct to the Office of Professional Responsibility.

Wilber is suggesting that suffering and joy are merely two sides of a coin which we are missing by biasing one side over the other.

 

“The great 'uncaused cause' that theologians have long speculated lies both everywhere around us and also within us, and of whose freedom our own is claimed to reflect, is not so bad a description, after all, of what may actually be the case.” (Satinover, 2001, p. 189) Satinover presents the linguistic motif of ‘uncaused cause’ here. I am intrigued to join in the linguistic play meditating on the idea of an ‘un-affected effect’. Good point. But is this a new investigation? I know you don't know the answer. This corruption has been going on for 2 yrs now. And "new" things are just now coming to light? Having a hard time believing that. I'm so fed up with all the slow walking and flat out refusals to cooperate. The Office of Refugee Resettlement, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children, allowed sponsors to take custody of multiple unrelated children, and regularly placed children in homes without visiting the locations, according to a 56-page investigative report released Thursday.

 

And once the children left federally funded shelters, the report said, the agency permitted their adult sponsors to prevent caseworkers from providing them post-release services.
