During a speech at the Pentagon at 11:15 a.m. EDT (1515 GMT) tomorrow (Aug. 9), Vice President Mike Pence will outline the administration's plan to create a new branch of the military focused on defending the ultimate high ground

Pence's speech alone won't establish the Space Force; setting up a new military branch requires congressional approval, The Post noted. The U.S. military currently consists of five branches — the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard — and a new one hasn't been created since the Air Force got off the ground in 1947.

The Space Force idea, which Trump first floated publicly in March 2018, has been controversial within military circles. For example, some folks have raised objections about creating another government entity to do work already under the Air Force's purview. (And Air Force officials are generally nonplussed, of course, about potentially losing some of the branch's responsibilities and funding.)

But Trump has continued to push for a Space Force, so the idea may well become reality before long.

Military leaders "are in complete alignment with the president’s concern about protecting our assets in space to contribute to our security to our economy, and we're going to have to address it as other countries show a capability to attack those assets," Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told The Post.

Mattis stopped short of giving a wholehearted endorsement of the Space Force as a separate branch, however. "I don't have all the final answers yet," he said. "We're still putting it together."

Colombia recognizes Palestinian state, then abruptly

After it emerged that the former president Juan Manuel Santos recognized Palestine as an independent state just before leaving office, Colombia’s new government has pledged to “cautiously” review the decision and its implications.

Palestine was described as a “free, independent and sovereign state” in Santos’ August 3 letter to the Palestinian representative in Colombia, which was only made public on Wednesday. “Just as the Palestinian people have a right to constitute an independent state, Israel has a right to live in peace alongside its neighbors,” it added.

Apparently facing some pressure, the new Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes said in a statement later on Wednesday that, given “possible omissions that could come to light about the way in which this decision was taken by the outgoing president, the government will cautiously examine its implications and will act according to international law.”

Colombia’s new president, Ivan Duque, took office on Tuesday in an inauguration ceremony attended by visiting US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley. Colombia was one of the few states that abstained from voting on a US General Assembly resolution that urged the US to rescind its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital last December.

Researchers report in Nature Communications they figured out why air sacs in the lungs clog up with a thick substance called surfactant in a brutal disease called Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP), and they show taking cholesterol-busting pills called statins can effectively treat the disease.

Essentially, it involves flushing patient lungs to clear out the gunk—a procedure so invasive it requires putting people under general anesthesia. Furthermore, the procedure has to be repeated every time the lungs clog up, which translates into some pretty serious quality of life issues for patients.

Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center found out the culprit is cholesterol. Led by Bruce Trapnell, MD, director of the Translational Pulmonary Science Center, the team found out years ago that PAP is linked to disruption of cell regulation by a molecule called granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF). GM-CSF is crucial for the development of fully mature macrophage cells in the lungs, which are needed to clear away used surfactant—a substance important to lung function—so that people can breathe.

In their new study of PAP patients and mouse models of the disease, the researchers uncovered a more precise reason that disruption of cell regulation by GM-CSF triggers PAP. It's because cell dysregulation reduces the ability of macrophages to process and clear out cholesterol, allowing its levels to build up. This contributes to the accumulation of surfactant that causes PAP and hinders breathing, according to study authors.

"Showing that the pathogenic driver of the disease is disruption of cholesterol homeostasis in these patients will change thinking in the PAP field," explains Trapnell. "Now that we know cholesterol in macrophages is a target for therapeutic development, repurposing statins is a pretty straight forward pharmacological approach for treating people with PAP."

Clinical Trial Planned

The findings are expected to lead to a clinical trial to test statin therapy in larger numbers of people suffering from PAP, said Trapnell. The current study tested statin therapy in two adult patients and in genetically engineered mouse models of PAP.

In both human patients and animal models of PAP, stain therapy was associated with improved cholesterol balance in pulmonary macrophage cells and allowed surfactant to be cleared from lung air sacs. This improved respiratory function in the adult patients and in the laboratory models. Those tests were the result of earlier experiments on mouse pulmonary macrophages and cells donated from patients.

I just found this out and figured out what it means.

Here is the skinny version: Ever since 1982 it has been illegal for any Republican, citizen or candidate or in any other form, to audit elections, and that is why it never happened despite all of alt media knowing the elections were rigged. This allowed the dead, stray dogs, busloads of repeat paid voters AND ILLEGALS to vote, and Republicans could do nothing to stop it. This is why in the latest Georgia primary, there was a district with a total of 276 registered voters that cast 670 ballots and no investigation was done, despite it being obvious there was vote fraud. However, an Obama appointed judge overturned this law in January of 2018. I guess Obama was good for something then.

In addition to this, Republicans were blocked, by law, from ever investigating any election where Democrats won, where even egregious anomalies occurred (such as more people voting than existed.) This happened lots in 2016. Republicans could not investigate voting machines toggling votes either. They could not investigate illegals voting. They were blocked by law from following busloads of fraudulent voters from polling place to polling place. And the Democrats took advantage of this and rigged the sh*t OUT OF EVERYTHING. That's why Hillary knew she won, and she knew she'd never get caught stealing it because any investigation was against the law. She knew her theft would not be looked into, conducted rigging that was horrific beyond belief, and could not believe she lost despite everything done to assure a perfect theft.

GUESS WHAT? NOW YOU CAN GO TO THE POLLS AND DO YOUR OWN EXIT POLLING. YOU COULD NOT DO THIS IN 2016.

And THAT is precisely why the tech left has moved to shut down conservatives on social media - they want to prevent conservatives from networking and figuring out precisely how and where elections were stolen.

GOOD NEWS: they had their butts handed to them in the recent special elections, so enough was done already to prevent another despicable vote rig. I would not count on this working for the full mid terms however, people, individuals, have to get out and follow buses, ask for ID, and watch the votes get counted. You could not do that before, NOW YOU CAN. And in any legit system, you had damn well better be able to. Howcome that was not allowed for the last 30 plus years?

Democrats want this mid-term election to be about the president’s personality and temperament. They desperately want to avoid scrutiny of their own congressional candidates. The season of vetting the Democratic congressional challengers is now upon us. Let me offer three examples, all from my home state of Texas, where Democrats are aiming to knock off Republican incumbents.

One of the prized Democratic recruits of the 2018 cycle is former NFL player and Obama administration official Colin Allred, who was just endorsed by former President Obama. He is running against House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions in a Dallas district. This past April, Mr. Allred was interviewed on the “Law for the People” podcast with Eric Cedillo, a Dallas immigration attorney. In that conversation, he bragged about serving as a research assistant for the “really well-known” and “really well-respected” author Ian Haney Lopez, who wrote the 2014 book “Dog Whistle Politics.” I will save you the time of reading the book, which includes chapters entitled, “The GOP’s Rise as the White Man’s Party;” “What’s the Matter with White Voters? Common-sense Racism;” and “The Wrecking Begins: Reagan.” Among the more vicious and divisive passages in the book, Mr. Haney Lopez and Mr. Allred argue that whites are racist for living in suburbs: “[W]hite professionals have mainly avoided integration by retreating to private academies, gated suburbs and protected professional worlds. Their ability to flee integration reflects both the resources available to better-off whites as well as the greater sway they exercise over government. As a result, well-off whites have experienced integration only on their own terms-in controlled settings, such as elite colleges and universities, and with only token numbers of non-whites. Early life and career

Cohen-Watnick gained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and then reportedly worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence after graduation.[2][3] Before joining the White House, Cohen-Watnick worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), beginning in 2010, where he served in Miami, Haiti, Virginia and Afghanistan.[4] Cohen-Watnick was accepted into the training program for the Defense Clandestine Service. In March 2016, after returning from a tour in Afghanistan, Cohen-Watnick met Michael T. Flynn.[4]

Cohen-Watnick underwent training at Camp Peary (commonly known as "The Farm"), where he was trained by the Central Intelligence Agency.[4] He was assigned to Afghanistan, with a GS-13 rank.[4][5] He was temporarily assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency Headquarters in 2014.[4] Cohen-Watnick left the DIA for the NSC on 20 January 2017.[4]

Tenure on the National Security Council

Cohen-Watnick was brought into the United States National Security Council by Michael T. Flynn, the former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and President Donald Trump's first National Security Advisor. He was named the NSC's Senior Director for Intelligence Programs.[6] This directorship was intermittently held by detailed CIA officers. Like Cohen-Watnick, the immediate preceding Senior Director from the Obama Administration was a political appointee.[7][8] Some viewed Cohen-Watnick's appointment as a sign of Trump's mistrust of the CIA.[9] Following Flynn's resignation in February 2017, the new National Security Advisor, H. R. McMaster, attempted to remove Cohen-Watnick, but he was overruled by Trump.[4] McMaster attempted to replace Cohen-Watnick with CIA official Linda Weissgold, the author of the infamous Benghazi talking points and member of the "Benghazi dream team", a group of intelligence community analysts assembled to counter the Congressional investigation into the Benghazi Affair.[10]

It is alleged that Cohen-Watnick inadvertently identified reports suggesting that members of Trump's campaign team had been subjected to incidental surveillance by the United States intelligence community, as part of an unrelated review of privacy procedures.[11][12] This information was passed on to Chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Devin Nunes by Assistant White House Counsel Michael Ellis.[13][11] In April 2017 the Associated Press quoted a U.S. official as saying that although Cohen-Watnick had access to those kinds of intelligence materials, he did not play a role in helping Nunes gain access to the documents.[13] According to a U.S. official, Cohen-Watnick was not involved in showing the material to Nunes, did not clear Nunes onto the White House grounds, did not review the material with Nunes, and was not even aware that the material was going to be shared with Chairman Nunes.[14][11]

It has been reported that Cohen-Watnick has advocated using the American intelligence community to overthrow the current Iranian government.[15][4]

The White House announced Cohen-Watnick's dismissal on August 2, 2017, following policy disagreements with National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster over Afghanistan, Iran, and Intelligence Oversight.[16][17][18] According to The Washington Post, Cohen-Watnick resigned following a power shift under McMaster.[19] Upon Cohen-Watnick's departure, the White House commented that "General McMaster appreciates the good work accomplished in the NSC's Intelligence directorate under Ezra Cohen's leadership… General McMaster is confident that Ezra will make many further significant contributions to national security in another position in the administration."[20]

In late September 2017, Cohen-Watnick was reportedly succeeded by Michael Barry.[21]

Education and career

Posobiec was born and raised in Norristown, Pennsylvania to a family of Polish descent.[9][10] His parents were both Democrats.[4] He attended Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School[4] and then went to college at Temple University.[4] While at Temple he rebelled against his parents' political views, became the chairman of the Temple University College Republicans, and started a chapter of Students for Academic Freedom, an organization run by the David Horowitz Freedom Center.[4] He also did a summer internship for Sen. Rick Santorum and volunteered for Rep. Curt Weldon's unsuccessful reelection campaign in 2006.[4] He graduated with a double major in political science and broadcast journalism.[11]

After graduation Posobiec worked for the United States Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, China.[4] In 2008 he played a minor role in the film The Forbidden Kingdom.[10][4] He later worked for WPHT, a conservative talk radio station and later for the campaign of Steve Johnson in the 2010 Pennsylvania lieutenant gubernatorial election.[4]

Posobiec is a lieutenant junior grade naval intelligence officer.[7] He served several tours in the Naval Reserves from 2010 to 2017, including a deployment at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.[10] In March 2017 Posobiec resigned from his Office of Naval Intelligence position, saying that his support for Trump led to a "toxic work environment". As of August 2017 his security clearance was suspended[7] and under review.[12]

Posobiec describes himself as a "Republican political operative".[13] He has called his recent work "reality journalism—part investigative, part activist, part commentary",[14][15] and has said: "I'm willing to break the fourth wall. I'm willing to walk into an anti-Trump march and start chanting anti-Clinton stuff—to make something happen, and then cover what happens."[11] Will Sommer, an editor at The Hill, has said Posobiec "make[s] stuff up, relentlessly", and that "there's no one at that level."[4]

Conspiracy theories, falsehoods, and unsubstantiated claims

Posobiec was one of the biggest promoters on social media of the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which falsely claimed that high-ranking officials were involved in a child-sex ring centered at a Washington, D.C. pizzeria.[4] He live-streamed an investigation of the pizzeria and was asked to leave after attempting to broadcast a child's birthday party being held in a back room.[16] Posobiec later said he had always thought the Pizzagate theory was "stupid" and had filmed his visit to debunk it.[4]

In December 2016, Posobiec claimed without evidence that Disney had re-written scenes in the Star Wars movie Rogue One to add "Anti Trump scenes calling him a racist", and called for a boycott of the Star Wars franchise. Disney denied the allegations.[17]

Posobiec falsely said that at a United States Senate hearing on May 17, 2017, former FBI director James Comey "said under oath that Trump did not ask him to halt any investigation". The claim was later repeated by the conservative media, including in prominent outlets such as InfoWars and Rush Limbaugh.[15]

Posobiec promoted the discredited conspiracy theory that Seth Rich had leaked e-mails from the Democratic National Committee to WikiLeaks.[18]

Posobiec promoted a hoax that CNN had published and then deleted an article defending Bill Maher's use of a racial slur.[1>>2521938
