925d71 (LB) was an excellent case study.

I set the post number to 25 fade / 30 hide.

Post 29 was the hideous cock photo, which the blacklist button worked nicely on.

Finally hit 30 and posts disappeared (still there if you hover on replies).

Only downside was you lose your position in the bread but that happens if you filter ID or ID+ anyway. Also the "fade" feature doesn't seem to do anything.

However… I am not as keen on that feature because if it set too low it filters legit anons (potentially including baker, and including the script creator LB, ironically). But if it is set too high it only works near the end of the bread.

I think I will set the filter limit to something outrageous like 200, filter by ID+ based on intuition, and then use the remaining features… and get comfy.

Two more indicted in alleged cocaine smuggling by 7th Special Forces Group soldier

 

Two more people, including a Colombian citizen, have been indicted on charges related to an alleged cocaine smuggling scheme involving a 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) soldier who reportedly tried to get nearly 90 pounds of cocaine into the United States from Colombia.

 

Federal grand jury indictments handed down last week charge 24-year-old Colombian Gustavo A. Pareja and 35-year-old Henry W. Royer of North Carolina with conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine with β€œreasonable cause to believe that such a substance would be unlawfully imported into the United States from a place outside thereof.”

 

Neither of the men are soldiers, according to Lt. Col. Loren Bymer, spokesman for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

 

The β€œsuperseding indictment” handed down Nov. 27 also names Master Sgt. Daniel J. Gould, a 7th Group soldier. Gould was indicted alone in October on charges of conspiring to traffic cocaine.

 

Gould had originally been scheduled to go to trial in November, but an October order from Senior U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson moved the trial to January. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Jan. 7.

Hedge fund Latimer Light says it is shutting down

 

Hedge fund Latimer Light Capital, which specialized in picking stocks, is closing its doors, becoming the latest casualty in an industry pummeled by the recent stock market sell-off.

 

New York-based Latimer Light told investors it plans to shut down in a letter it emailed on Friday, according to people familiar with the matter. A spokesperson for the firm declined to comment.

 

The firm was founded three years ago by Scott Phillips, who spent nearly a decade working for Stephen Mandel’s Lone Pine Capital, one of the industry’s most respected hedge funds.

 

Now Phillips joins a growing list of managers in the $3 trillion industry to call it quits as tumbling markets are prompting ever more hedge fund clients to ask for their money back. In the last months Highfields Capital and Tourbillon Capital announced plans to shut down.

 

Latimer Light had been operating for three years and at the end of last year, the firm had roughly $555 million in capital, according to a regulatory filing.

 

It invested primarily in stocks of high-growth companies or companies with solid businesses that were under-managed, the regulatory filing said.

 

At the end of the third quarter it owned computer software and services company PTC Inc., and video game holding company Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. among other stocks, according to another regulatory filing.

 

This year has been especially tough for hedge funds. The stock market sell-off in the fourth quarter cost many a lot of money and prompted clients to run for the exits.

 

The average fund lost 2.1 percent in the first 11 months of the year, according to data from Morgan Stanley. For December, the numbers suggest even more pain, with data showing that U.S. funds specializing in stock trading lost 5.5 percent this month.

 

Not only were hedge funds unable to keep pace with rising markets in recent years but now that stocks are tumbling, fueled by fears about corporate profits and interest rate movements, they failed to protect capital on the downside, industry investors said.

 

Criterion Management and Frontlight Capital also said recently that they are shutting down. More funds shut down than opened up this year, according to data from Eurekahedge.

 

Investors said fund managers faced with poor returns and redemptions are now deciding more often to shut down immediately instead of trying to raise cash for redemptions and then trying to raise new money to keep going.

Instead, this concierge stays in the room, and I go, listen, you've got to help me get rid of the problem," the comedian recalled.

 

"And this guy starts advising Gio how to get rid of this issue. We even at one point talk about murdering the boy, and the concierge is just saying, 'Well, listen, I'm really sorry. In this country, we can't just drown the boy. This is America. We don't do that.' And then, in the end, he puts me in touch with a lawyer who can silence the boy."

I've spent the last dozen or so Christmases alone, as with the vast majority of my birthdays. I don't let it get me down, but choose to enjoy the solitude. I'll drink my beer and watch my movies.
