I agree with you that an incapacitated person cannot make that decision, but my other half and I have had this discussion many times - we both feel the same way - and our children have been told how we feel. Ending life support is an extremely difficult decision to make and I feel horrible for anyone faced with having to make a call. ABC Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel expressed concern over the news that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg was taken to hospital on Thursday, declaring that she needs to stay on the court for “another 80 years.”

This week, 85-year-old Justice was hospitalized after reportedly fracturing three ribs in a fall at the court, sparking speculation she may be forced to retire her seat. Such a decision would allow President Donald Trump to appoint, and likely have confirmed, a third Supreme Court Justice within his first two years in office.

“We are going to have to figure out the bathroom situation,” he added.

 

Kimmel was one of many liberals to express concern over the news, days after Democrats experienced relative success in the midterm elections by taking back control of the House of Representatives. Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano even offered Ginsburg her ribs and her kidneys to keep her alive and well.

 

Ginsburg has experienced various health problems over the years, having already survived two bouts with cancer and stent implant to open a blocked artery. However, Ginsburg’s nephew Daniel Stiepleman revealed on Thursday that his aunt was “doing great.”

 

“The last I heard she was up and working, of course, because what else would she be doing, and cracking jokes,” he said. “I can’t promise they were good jokes but they were jokes.”

The original French Yellow Vest (“Gilets Jaunes”) demonstrations were not without their own far-right element. Some of the movement’s earliest marches saw reports of racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia, the New Republic reported. A December poll found the movement had the highest favorability ratings with supporters of the far-right politician Marine Le Pen.

Some of the 40 attendees at the Manchester rally wore vests decorated with slogans by the English Defense League, a far-right Islamophobic group.

 

“If they want a war we’ll give them a war, let’s give them a fucking war,” one far-right Yellow Vest organizer shouted during a livestream of the London demonstration. Last month, that same organizer was among a group of Yellow Vest demonstrators who accosted an anti-Brexit politician, calling her a “traitor.” Neo-Nazis previously used term to describe Jo Cox, an anti-Brexit politician who was murdered ahead of the 2016 Brexit vote.

In August, the chief judge for military commissions assigned Air Force Col. Shelley Schools to preside in the on-again, off-again death-penalty trial against Saudi captive Abd al Rahim al Nashiri. She was chosen to replace Air Force Col. Vance Spath, who was retiring to serve as an immigration judge too.

 

Nashiri was captured in Dubai in 2002, held for years in secret CIA prisons and charged in 2011. But the start of trial has been delayed by a series of structural, personnel and evidence challenges.

 

On January 22, a federal appellate court in Washington will hear arguments on whether Spath should have disclosed his nearly three-year pursuit of a job with the Department of Justice to become an immigration court division. He left military service last year and is hearing cases as a civilian immigration judge in Arlington, Virginia. Defense lawyers for Nashiri want all of Spath's rulings nullified during the time he secretly pursued the job because case prosecutors appearing before him came from the Department of Justice's National Security Division.

Although QAnon is led by an anonymous forum user who claims to be a Trump insider, its followers have increasingly expanded on the conspiracy theory, making it difficult for even its original author to control.

 

“I really feel like we're heading for a Q movement where Q isn't necessary,” Mike Rothschild, a writer documenting QAnon’s evolution remarked on Twitter this weekend.

 

That leaderless conspiracy movement could end up looking a lot like elements of the U.K. and Canadian Yellow Vest movements: nebulous in structure, but undeniably far-right.
