Dutch Police: Several People Wounded in Hague Stabbing

 

Several people were wounded in a stabbing on a shopping street in The Hague, Netherlands, according to Dutch police officials.

 

Local authorities and emergency services are on scene at Grote Marktstraat, the cityโ€™s main shopping street where people were out shopping for Black Friday deals, reports Sky News.

 

Officers said the suspect is between 45-50 years old and wearing a grey jogging suit.

 

Additional details are not yet known.

 

The incident occurred hours after a knifeman stabbed several people, killing two, in central London. Police shot the suspect dead and are investigating as a terror-related incident.

 

The White House expressed support for the United Kingdom following the attack.

'Crisis' hit Zimbabwe wants white farmers back โ€“ report

 

Cape Town โ€“ Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's government has reportedly indicated, for the first time, that it may hand back land to some white farmers whose farms were forcibly taken away from them during the height of the countryโ€™s controversial land reform programme.

 

This comes a decade and a half after the Zimbabwean government seized large swaths of land from white farmers in the country - a move that saw a drastic deterioration in the country's economy.

 

According to The Telegraph, Minister of Lands Douglas Mombeshora said provincial leaders had been tasked to come up with names of white farmers they wanted to remain on their farms. The farms should be "of strategic economic importance".

 

"We have asked provinces to give us the names of white farmers they want to remain on farms so that we can give them security of tenure documents to enable them to plan their operations properly," Mombeshora was quoted as saying.

 

Compensation process

 

The report said those who benefitted from the land grabs will in future be expected to pay a small rental per acre, which will be used to pay compensation to evicted white farmers.

 

Fin24 reported late last year that Mugabeโ€™s administration was willing to compensate white farmers and to clarify its indigenisation laws.

 

Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa was quoted at the time as saying that government was seeking resources to implement the compensation of white commercial farmers.

 

"โ€ฆwe have an obligation under the constitution of Zimbabwe to compensate white farmers who lost their land during the land reform programme. It is not out of intention that we are delaying to implement the compensation process, but rather an issue of scarce resources which are needed to fully carry out the programme," Chinamasa was quoted as saying.

 

Landless blacks

 

The latest developments are seen as a U-turn in the southern African countryโ€™s land policy after Mugabe vowed last year that whites will never be allowed to own land in Zimbabwe.

 

Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party launched the land reforms in 2000, taking over white-owned farms to resettle landless blacks.

 

Mugabe said the reforms were meant to correct colonial land ownership imbalances.

 

At least 4 000 white commercial farmers were evicted from their farms.

 

The land seizures were often violent, claiming the lives of several white farmers during clashes with veterans of Zimbabwe's 1970s liberation struggle.

 

Critics of the reforms have blamed the programme for low production on the farms as the majority of the beneficiaries lacked the means and skills to work the land.

U.S. weighs new regulations to further restrict Huawei suppliers

 

The U.S. government may expand its power to stop more foreign shipments of products with U.S. technology to Chinaโ€™s Huawei, amid frustration the companyโ€™s blacklisting has failed to cut off supplies to the worldโ€™s largest telecoms equipment maker, two sources said.

 

The U.S. Commerce Department in May placed Huawei Technologies on a trade blacklist, citing national security concerns. Putting Huawei on the entity list, as it is known, allowed the U.S. government to restrict sales of U.S.-made goods to the company, and some more limited items made abroad that contain U.S. technology.

 

But under current regulations, key foreign supply chains remain beyond the reach of U.S. authorities, prompting inter-agency discussions within the administration of President Donald Trump about possible changes to two key rules that could expand U.S. authority to block more foreign shipments to the company, giving more teeth to Huaweiโ€™s blacklisting, according to two people familiar with the matter.

 

The expansion of the rules is being considered even though the Trump Administration last week agreed to grant some reprieves on the existing ban and continues to seek a deal to de-escalate a bitter trade war.

 

If the Commerce Department makes the proposed rule changes, it will allow U.S. authorities to regulate sales of non-sensitive items, such as standard cell phone chips, made abroad with U.S.-origin technology, software, or components to Huawei, which is the worldโ€™s second largest smartphone maker.

One rule the Commerce Department and sister agencies are focused on broadening is known as the De minimis Rule, which dictates whether U.S. content in a foreign-made product gives the U.S. government authority to block an export.

 

Officials also may expand the so-called Direct Product Rule, which subjects foreign-made goods that are based on U.S. technology or software to U.S. regulations.

Yes, the beauty is the leverage of trade.

It does not lock any party into trading if there is a dispute, (for example: you have corruption in this sector of trade, so we end this part of the agreement.)

The only enforcement is trade. There are provisions for multiple ways of determining the dispute, agreed upon by all parties involved, (arbitration, mediation, setting up a panel). An open borders lobbying group, partially funded by billionaire George Soros, says โ€œwe need to abolishโ€ the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to protect foreign nationals accused of visa fraud.

This week, ICE announced additional arrests in the case of a fake university set up by the Department of Homeland Security thatโ€™s sole purpose was to keep foreign nationals on student visas in the United States under the disguise that they were enrolled in school.

In total, about 250 foreign nationals have been arrested in the scheme. Justice Department officials said โ€œ100 percent of the foreign citizen students never spent a single second in a classroomโ€ because the fake university had no teachers and provided no educational services.

A number of the foreign nationals had transferred to the fake university after leaving schools that had lost accreditation. Federal agents said the foreign students merely enrolled at the fake university to keep their student visa and eventually land a diploma, knowing that they would not be receiving an actual education. Also arrested in the scheme are those accused of helping recruit foreign students.

The group United We Dream wrote in a post that the case underscores why ICE must be abolished in order to end all interior immigration enforcement.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador sent a letter this week to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), urging House Democrats to bring the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal to a vote.

US Ambassador to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ken Ward accused Russia of playing "a central role" in covering up the use of chemical weapons in Syria, during a meeting in the Hague on Thursday.

 

"The Syrian cover-up is never going to work because the international community has the courage of its convictions, does not wish to live in a world of chemical weapons, and wants to protect the people of Syria from the threat of chemical weapons use. Unfortunately, the Russian Federation has played a central role in this cover-up," he said.

 

The ambassador also paraphrased the TV-series 'Chernobyl', saying, "Every falsehood creates a debt to the truth, every use of chemical weapons in Syria creates a debt to justice. The international community is going to pay these debts. The truth is always going to come out, Syria will not be able to use these chemical weapons in dark corners and believe it can do so and escape impunity."

 

Russian Ambassador responded by pointing out the United States was behind schedule in the elimination of its chemical weapons and raised doubts about the OPCW report into the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Douma.

 

"We're being called upon to trust the conclusion of the fact-finding mission's experts, but conclusions were drawn on the basis of findings gathered by independent external experts," he said. "Could this mean that fact-finding mission expert conclusions did not meet the expectations which some countries had pinned on all of this?"

The USMCA does require that all parties agree to basic legal standards and breaks it out in a couple of chapters.

Chapter 23 is about Labor. It concerns forced labor, discrimination, child labor and collective bargaining.

It specifically states that each party makes its own laws based on these principles. None are new or in addition to what The US has currently.

There is no legal enforcement between the parties:

Chapter 23.5.4

Nothing in this Chapter shall be construed to empower a Partyโ€™s authorities to undertake labor law enforcement activities in the territory of another Party.

 

If one country thinks another is not enforcing it's own laws, and it is decided through mediation, arbitration, or other means agreed upon by the parties. Trade can then be suspended. Not necessarily all trade, just the trade in that sector.

So if Canada has unpaid children working to make T-shirts cheaper than ours, We can suspend trade on textiles with them.
