The US сould be the prime culprit behind Covid-2019 outbreak that hit China and then Iran, head of its elite Revolutionary Guards claimed, threatening that the virus will eventually be turned against those who unleashed it.

 

“It is possible that this virus is a product of a biological attack by America which initially spread to China and then to Iran and the rest of the world,"Hossein Salami said on Thursday.

 

He vowed that Iran would "fight" the virus and cautioned that the illness "will return" to the United States, if Washington was indeed responsible for the outbreak.

 

Though such conspiracy theories have been circulating for a while, there's still no official proof it could be true.

 

The Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization, General Gholam Reza Jalali, said earlier on Tuesday that media fear-mongering over the new corornavirus in the country bolsters claims that the virus is a biological attack on China and Iran. He said that some reports indicate that it could be a hostile state, but added that his suspicion requires laboratorial investigation and a study of the virus genome.

 

Iran has been one of the countries hit hardest by Covid-19 outside of mainland China where it originated. As of Thursday, the Islamic Republic has reported 3,513 confirmed cases and 107 deaths attributed to the virus. Some 15 of those who have succumbed to the coronavirus died in the last 24 hours, according to Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki.

 

The country has shuttered all schools and universities until the end of the country's calendar year on March 20 in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.

 

On Tuesday, state media announced that the head of Iran's emergency medical services was being treated for coronavirus. Numerous high-level Iranian officials have fallen ill to the virus. Recently, 23 lawmakers tested positive for the illness in the Islamic Republic. Mohammad Mirmohammadi, a member of a council that advises the supreme leader, died after falling sick from the disease. His death follows those of two other high-profile Iranians who contracted the virus – a former ambassador and a newly-elected member of parliament.

Could US face ‘criminal liability’ for torture program? ICC greenlights inquiry into Afghan war crimes

 

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has approved a probe into alleged war crimes committed in Afghanistan by the US and other parties, potentially exposing Washington to legal repercussions for its nearly 20-year occupation.

 

Hailed as a landmark ruling, the panel of judges at The Hague reversed a decision by the court's Pre-Trial Chamber denying the ICC prosecutor's request to open a formal inquiry into crimes committed in connection with the conflict in Afghanistan. The previous decision not to pursue an investigation was reportedly influenced by the belief that the United States would not cooperate with the proceedings.

 

ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said that there were ample grounds to begin an investigation into Taliban crimes, as well as an alleged torture program operated by Afghan authorities, the US military and the CIA. The court agreed on Thursday, authorizing the investigation.

 

The court's decision was applauded by many – but some warned that expectations should be tempered.

 

Mark MacKinnon, a correspondent for Canada's Globe and Mail, said that the ICC had done the "right thing" by pushing forward with the investigation.

 

"Powerful nations can't be above international law, or the whole concept collapses," he wrote.

 

The Center for Constitutional Rights described the ruling as "the first time senior US officials may face criminal liability for their involvement in the torture program" in Afghanistan.

 

The ruling marks a "good day" for the ICC, but it's far from certain that the investigation will lead to formal charges, cautioned Kevin Jon Heller, an associate professor of international law at the University of Amsterdam.

 

The United States is not a member of the ICC, but Afghanistan is – leaving open the possibility that US crimes committed on Afghan soil could be prosecuted by the court. 

 

Even if the inquiry exposes serious wrongdoing, it's unclear how the ICC would proceed. US President Donald Trump has been an outspoken opponent of the Hague-based court, and even imposed travel restrictions and other sanctions against ICC employees.

 

Trump has slammed the ICC for its “broad” and “unaccountable”prosecutorial powers, and has repeatedly scoffed at the idea of US soldiers being charged with war crimes. In November, he pardoned two army officers facing war crimes charges for their actions in Afghanistan, and reinstated the rank of Edward Gallagher, a Navy SEAL who was accused of similar atrocities during his deployment in Iraq, but was ultimately cleared of most wrongdoing.

The Constitution Of The United States took effect—a document that divided the US government into three co-equal parts called the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches—neither of whom were given supremacy over their co-equal branches—and all of three of which are directly accountable to the American people and no one else.

 

Under Article 1-Section 8 of this Constitution, this report explains, the Legislative Branch is given the power “To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States” and “ To make Rules for the Government”—a power the Legislative Branch used to create and fund numerous government departments and agencies used by the Executive Branch for the efficient management of their nation—but which 137-years after this Constitution came into effect, saw this entire process breaking down.

 

The breakdown of this Constitutional process, this report notes, centered on the control of the government departments and agencies created by the Legislative Branch (US Congress) but resided in the Executive Branch (the President)—a dispute solved by the US Supreme Court in the 1926 case called Myers v. United States—a case decided in a 70-page ruling written by Chief Justice William Howard Taft, about which is said:

 

Taft’s lengthy opinion in Myers concluded that constitutional structure and separation of powers principles made the president’s removal power regarding officers exercising executive power “illimitable.”

 

“From the division” of powers into three branches, Taft wrote, “the reasonable construction of the Constitution must be that the branches should be kept separate in all cases in which they were not expressly blended, and the Constitution should be expounded to blend them no more than it affirmatively requires.”

 

Taft understood that when an agency exercises executive power, such as by filing suit to enforce a federal consumer‐​protection law, the officers of that agency are exercising the power vested by the Constitution in the president alone.

 

For that exercise of the president’s power to be constitutionally valid, the president must retain ultimate control over its use.

 

Ten years after the Myers v. United States case was decided and gave the President full control over his own Executive Branch, this report continues, the United States was in the grip of the Great Depression and being ruled over by its socialist Democrat Party leader President Franklin D. Roosevelt—who along with his totally controlled socialist Democrat Party controlled US Congress, “saw these progressive politicians wildest dreams come alive”—wild dreams that saw them creating what are called “FDR’s Alphabet Soup”—that describes the numerous government departments and agencies these socialists created—creations that became monstrous, however, in 1936 when an “under siege” United States Supreme Court decided a case forced on them by Roosevelt and his socialist Democrats called Humphrey’s Executor v. U.S.—the decision of which effectively gutted the Myers v. United States ruling issued just ten-years earlier, and that made government departments and agencies a separate power unto themselves not accountable to any branch of government or even the American voters—and about which the world renowned late US Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia scathingly wrote, in 1988, what history has now recorded as “The Great Dissent”:

 

One can hardly grieve for the shoddy treatment given today to Humphrey's Executor, which, after all, accorded the same indignity (with much less justification) to Chief Justice Taft's opinion 10 years earlier in Myers v. United States gutting, in six quick pages devoid of textual or historical precedent for the novel principle it set forth, a carefully researched and reasoned 70-page opinion.

I recently traveled internationally for work (not a high infection area) and my employer required me to get cleared before returning to the office. The doctor who checked me out told me the death rate among healthy people who get the corona virus is not significantly higher than that associated with the common flu. He said there is always about a 1% chance for anyone who gets the flu to develop severe complications, and they are not seeing much of a difference with corona.

 

The people who are at risk are those with immune system diseases, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and heavy smokers. He said there is about a 10% death rate in that population.

Rhodes established The Round Table to promote this “English-speaking” hegemony over the the world. His new club of self-aggrandizing elitist Robber barons (including Americans) was a moral grab bag of ideas that borrowed from John Ruskin’s settlement movement ideas where elites would rule over socialist/communist communities as overlords, dispensing their wisdom over the hapless masses in their charge. Tellingly, the leaders of the 2nd Boer War, Viscount Alfred Milner and General Lord Roberts, were Ruskin fans. Also tellingly, Ruskin eschewed spirituality and religion until late in life.

 

The Round Table organized as a secret society that borrowed Jesuit stealth takeover processes to hide their hegemonic intentions. With Rhodes’ blessing, they employed any tactic needed to acquire the resources to achieve their 200-year imperial corporatist-fascist goals “…(3) The seizure of the wealth necessary.”

 

On 13 March 1888, Rhodes launched De Beers Consolidated Mines where Rhodes was first chairman , with funding from N.M. Rothschild & Sons supplied in 1887.

In 1888, Queen Victoria appointed Baron Henry De Worms to the Privy Council. His barony was extinguished upon his death since he had no male heirs. However, he appears to have given away his land holdings to the Ministry of Defence which had been under his authority.

 

On Dec. 20, 1889, De Worms, Rothschild and Salisbury supported the formation of an autonomous British South Africa Company to enable Cecil J. Rhodes to form a replacement corporatist (Robber baron) model to replace the British East India Company. In this model the lower classes would be ruled under socialism and culled with eugenics (war, poison vaccines, man-made disasters) while the upper class rulers would live lives of luxury under the British peerage system. In their system, free thinking could not be tolerated, therefore, the Judeo-Christian ethic of free will would have to be neutralized or abolished. According to Rhodes’ 200-year plan, these commercial princes would operate as a secret society and use Jesuit stealth tactics to lie, cheat and steal to achieve their plan. Rhodes encouraged them that the resources to achieve this plan must be acquired at any cost.

 

The British South Africa Company would empower Rhodes to run South Africa as a corporation with its own laws, taxes and police force. This profligate governance model eventually led to Milner and Roberts establishing the world’s first concentrations camps in the 2nd Boer War. Over 60,000 souls, including 14,000 children were murdered in these barbaric camps via suspicious outbreaks of  measles, typhoid and dysentery. Family described to our researchers that children with even sniffles were taken away from their parents and never returned, presumed murdered. Notably, Henry Wellcome supplied his medicine chests full of experimental vaccines to the British Army that were used in these death camps.

 

The British acknowledge that the concentration camps helped break the backs of the Boers and led to their defeat. This ghoulish model was repeated by Adolf Hitler thirty years later.

The lionized British explorer Sir Henry M. Stanley is buried in Pirbright. His legend says he explored “Darkest Africa” and allegedly said upon encountering missionary David Livingstone who he was searching for: “Mr. Livingstone, I presume.” Given our new information into the propaganda surrounding the Stanley, we are wondering if any of this is true. It may have just been a tall tale that sold a lot of newspapers. In 1874, Stanley’s second African expedition was finance by two newspapers , The New York Herald and Britain’s Daily Telegraph. The Daily Telegraph’s editor, Edward Levy Lawson, later Lord Burnham, co-founder of the Pilgrims Society (1902), was chairman of the First Imperial Press Conference, 1909, and founded the Empire Press Union and while organizing of British MI6, MI5 and GC&CS, now GCHQ)—the last three events all in the summer of 1909.

 

Henry Wellcome told the story of Stanley’s use of his medicine chests full of experimental vaccines in his The Evolution of Journalism Etcetera (pp. 150, 151, 291) that he presented to the 650 newspapermen delegates at the First Imperial Press Conference, 1909. In that conference he asked the delegates to repeat Stanley’s efforts to collect toxins, cures and poisons and he would reimburse them to be sent to his Wellcome laboratories in the UK for analysis.

 

Wellcome helped finance Stanely’s expeditions. Stanely also helped Belgium’s Prince Leopold II secure the Congo for the Rothschilds and De Beers’ diamond and gold interests.

 

Wellcome and Stanley were both born promoters who used the corridors of power to secure their wealth and influence. Wellcome Trust today is the second largest grant-maker in the world after The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

 

Now we must return to Wellcome’s, Rhodes’s, Milner’s, Robert’s and Stanley’s Parliamentary sponsor Henry de Worms 1’s Baron Pirbright.

 

In his powerful positions at the Board of Trade and as overseer of the Colonies, De Worms was responsible for all patents and trademarks.

 

During this time, a bright young Serbian-born inventor named Nicholai Tesla was inventing wireless telegraphy, electric light, motors, power and free energy devices. His first patent, for an electric arc lamp, was awarded on Sep. 02, 1886 30, 1884. (De Worms assumed control of the Board if Trade in 1885).

 

Therefore, during De Worms trade and colonial oversight of the British patent office (1885-1892), Tesla filed 56 patents.

 

Hindsight makes it quite evident now that we can see the forces behind the transition of the British Empire from control by the British East India Company to a new form of British corporatist imperial fascism, that they would apply Rhodes’ admonition to acquire resources at any cost, to stealing Tesla’s wireless telegraphy invention for use in their imperial communications scheme for use in the Admiralty and as a propaganda tool to control the masses and “create public opinion.”

We return to the question of why the Pirbright Institute—the patent holder of CORONAVIRUS—is situated on the same Ministry of Defence property as the Cobbett Hill Earthstation with massive array of powerful, weapons-grade antennas and dishes. Much more overlooked, however, are Grenell’s ties to the powerful American pro-Israel lobby and Israeli politicians alike, including organizations and individuals with a history of espionage and blackmail against the United States.

 

Grenell is merely the latest example in a series of appointments over the past few years that have seen individuals with deep ties to the pro-Israel lobby rise to top positions in the U.S. intelligence community, including the NSA’s current director of Cybersecurity Anne Neuberger as well as the leaders of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB).

 

With many of these posts directly involved in overseeing the security of the upcoming 2020 election, ostensibly to combat “foreign interference,” these connections are even more significant. Grenell’s many conflicts of interest

 

Richard Grenell’s appointment last Wednesday to the post of Director of National Intelligence (DNI) raised a number of eyebrows on the Beltway and drew sharp condemnation from former and current intelligence officials alike. Most of the concern was due to the fact that Grenell, who has been serving as the U.S. ambassador to Germany, has virtually no intelligence experience or background. Yet, he will now oversee and coordinate all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and NSA, and will be responsible for briefing President Trump on intelligence matters of both domestic and international concern.

 

Grenell’s new position is not required to be confirmed by the Senate unless Trump decides to nominate him as a permanent candidate at the end of the temporary three-month period during which he can serve as acting DNI. There has not been a permanent DNI since Dan Coats resigned last August.

 

Grenell’s appointment was also criticized due to his brazen political approach towards his diplomatic post as U.S. ambassador to Germany, which he will maintain while coordinating and overseeing U.S. intelligence activities. In his two years as ambassador, Grenell has alienated numerous German politicians to the extent that prominent officials have refused to meet with him. Some German officials began calling for his resignation during his first month as ambassador.

 

One very valid criticism of Grenell’s appointment, however, has been glossed over, namely his ties to controversial lobbyists, political operatives and foreign politicians. For instance, Grenell used to work on behalf of Arthur Finkelstein and Associates, a firm of the late Republican political operative of the same name.

 

Finkelstein was one of the main architects of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s first campaign in 1996. Finkelstein was placed in contact with the Netanyahu campaign by prominent Jewish American businessman and billionaire, Ronald Lauder — a close associate of Trump, then-top backer of Netanyahu (they have since had a falling out) and a member of the controversial “Mega Group.”

 

Finkelstein worked on numerous successive campaigns for far-right politicians in Israel, including former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. He has been described as being “deeply committed” to and a “staunch supporter” of Israel and the hawkish Likud Party. He also spent numerous years on Likud’s payroll.

 

Grenell’s financial disclosures reveal that his consulting firm, Capitol Media Partners, received more than $5,000 from Finkelstein but does not specify the exact amount. ProPublica recently reported that Grenell, who has ties to Fox News and Newsmax, worked for Finkelstein as a “media consultant” in Eastern Europe, where Ronald Lauder has long held significant media interests. In that capacity, Grenell was paid to work on Finkelstein’s behalf for the now-disgraced Moldovan politician, Vladimir Plahotniuc, work that Grenell did not disclose, but should have according to experts.

 

Concerns over Grenell’s susceptibility to foreign influence are particularly troubling given his especially close relationship with Israel, despite nominally having served as U.S. ambassador to Germany, a position which ostensibly would require close ties to Germany (which Grenell lacks) as opposed to Israel. Soon after Grenell became ambassador to Germany, he requested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet him at the Berlin airport. After that meeting, Netanyahu told reporters that Grenell is a “big fan of Israel.” Grenell himself has stated that he views his support for Israeli “peace” (i.e. security) policy as a “biblical mandate” and has visited the country “more times than he can count.”

Though many intelligence community veterans and politicians in both major parties opposed Grenell’s appointment, the American Israel lobby was thrilled. The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) “strongly praised” Grenell’s appointment as acting DNI, with ZOA president Morton Klein, stating:

Klein previously announced his displeasure that Grenell had not been appointed to serve as U.S. ambassador to NATO after he had been given private “assurances” by the Trump administration that Grenell would be nominated to that post.

 

Grenell’s ties to political operatives like Finkelstein, his close friendships to Israel lobbyists Morton Klein and Israeli PM Netanyahu as well as his failure to disclose paid work done on behalf of foreign politicians make him susceptible to foreign influence or blackmail according to the official policy of the office of the DNI, which Grenell now leads.

 

That policy holds that “conditions that could raise a security concern and may be disqualifying” include “connections to a foreign person, group, government or country that create a potential conflict of interest between the individual’s obligation to protect classified or sensitive information or technology and the individual’s desire to help a foreign person, group or country by providing that information or technology.”

 

Given that Israeli politicians and officials, including Netanyahu, have actively used blackmail to influence sitting U.S. presidents and that the pro-Israel lobby has a history of espionage targeting the United States, it is telling that Grenell’s appointment to a sensitive intelligence post has not been criticized in the media over his close ties to the pro-Israel lobby, Arthur Finkelstein and Israel’s government.

Israel’s foothold grows

 

While Grenell’s appointment is troubling over his ties to the pro-Israel lobby, it is merely the latest such appointment made by the Trump administration as several top intelligence figures with deep ties to the pro-Israel lobby have recently risen to prominence.

 

For example, current NSA director of Cybersecurity Anne Neuberger is married to Yehuda Neuberger, who serves as chair of AIPAC’s executive council in Baltimore. Neuberger’s parents were rescued via the IDF’s “Operation Entebbe,” an operation led by Benjamin Netanyahu’s brother, Yonathan Netanyahu. Neuberger was less than a year old at the time, but was not with her parents during the incident.

 

As Cybersecurity director for the NSA, Neuberger oversees a division of that agency that “unifies NSA’s foreign intelligence and cyberdefense missions” and works “to prevent and eradicate threats to national security systems and critical infrastructure,” including the country’s election infrastructure. Her family ties to AIPAC are therefore concerning given the powerful lobby groups’ propensity to meddle in this election’s Democratic primary. This is belied by the fact that AIPAC has, in the past, committed espionage against the U.S. government on Israel’s behalf on more than one occasion.

 

In addition to Neuberger, both the head and deputy chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB) have close ties to foreign lobbies and intelligence services. According to the U.S. government, PIAB “exists exclusively to assist the President by providing him with an independent source of advice on the effectiveness with which the Intelligence Community is meeting the Nation’s intelligence needs, and the vigor and insight with which the community plans for the future. The Board has access to all information needed to perform its functions and has direct access to the President.” The government’s official description of the body’s role also states that PIAB has “immense and long-lasting impacts on the structure, management, and operations of U.S. intelligence.”

 

PIAB is chaired by Stephen Feinberg, the billionaire owner of Cerberus capital management, which owns scandal-ridden U.S. military and intelligence contractor DynCorp. Court documents cited by the New York Times accused Cerberus of “orchestrating secretive deals that transgressed legal and ethical boundaries,” making his role at PIAB at overseeing the often ethically-challenged U.S. intelligence community troubling. In addition, Cerberus was previously the owner of or majority stakeholder of a string of now-bankrupt companies that defrauded U.S. intelligence and the U.S. military on a massive scale during the George W. Bush administration, with much of that occurring while then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was invested in Cerberus.

 

Feinberg’s close relationships also raise some red flags. He is a close friend of Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law whose family has a close friendship with Netanyahu, as well as Steve Bannon, who has close ties to the U.S. Israel lobby, particularly the ZOA. Feinberg is also a close associate of hedge fund manager Michael Steinhardt, a “Mega Group” member whose father worked for the National Crime Syndicate. Steinhardt was instrumental in the controversial Clinton-era pardon of Mossad asset Marc Rich and is a major funder of pro-Israel organizations.

 

Feinberg was also one of the main shareholders in Israel’s then-largest bank, Bank Leumi, until he was pressured to sell his stake following the revelation that his partner in that investment, Ezra Merkin, played a key role in the Bernie Madoff scandal. Cerberus’ acquisition of those shares had originally been closely tied to a Likud party initiative to privatize Israel’s entire banking sector.

 

Companies owned by Cerberus have also been found to be closely tied to Saudi intelligence. The Washington Post reported last year that a U.S.-backed plan to “modernize” Saudi intelligence had been created by Culpeper National Security Solutions, a unit of Cerberus-owned DynCorp, along “with help from some prominent former CIA officials.” Another Cerberus-owned company called Tier 1 has also helped train Saudi Special Forces, some of whom were reportedly involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Though Feinberg says he divested his personal stake from these companies prior to chairing PIAB, they remain owned by his firm Cerberus and arguably still present a conflict of interest.

 

In addition to Feinberg, the PIAB’s current deputy chair — Samantha Ravich — formerly worked for the pro-Israel lobby group Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), a spin-off of AIPAC that was created to shield the lobby organization from scrutiny when it was investigated in 1984 for espionage against the U.S. government on Israel’s behalf.

UBS Considers Passing Negative Rates to More Clients

 

UBS Group AG is considering whether to impose fees on a wider group of savers as it seeks to share the burden of negative interest rates.

 

The Swiss bank is approaching clients holding less than the 2 million Swiss francs ($2.1 million) about paying for their deposits, people with knowledge of the matter said, asking not to be identified discussing private talks. That’s the current threshold at which charges currently kick in at the lender. Central banks around the world are reducing interest rates in response to slowing economic growth and the coronavirus outbreak. The Federal Reserve made an emergency interest rate cut of half a percentage point on Tuesday. Swiss banks are affected by both the European Central bank’s 0.5% negative rate and the Swiss National Bank’s minus 0.75% rate. UBS has so far set a relatively high bar for passing on the pain. Zurich-based rival Credit Suisse Group AG also charges clients with cash deposits of more than 2 million francs. Some retail lenders in Germany charge for deposits of more than 100,000 euros ($112,000) and Switzerland’s PostFinance AG sets the bar at more than 250,000 francs.

 

Negative rates were a main reason that UBS dropped its net new money target in January. UBS started a program this year to encourage clients to move out of cash into investments that are better protected from negative rates. If depositors don’t want to make those changes, UBS will consider charges “and it’s possible that they move their cash elsewhere,” Chief Financial Officer Kirt Gardner said on a call with analysts in January. “We are working through the details of that program and will announce more within the first quarter.”

 

Moving clients into investments may have become a harder sell after stocks dropped the most since the financial crisis last week, hurting investment portfolios.

Ravich also praised the Trump administration’s decision to partner with Israel’s government on “cybersecurity” in 2017, saying that “the U.S. cannot go it alone in its endeavor to safeguard the networks and systems upon which our economy depends.” As MintPress reported last month, several highly classified networks of the U.S. intelligence community and the military, including networks of the CIA, NSA, and DISA, now use cybersecurity software deeply tied to Israeli military intelligence, thanks in part to this U.S.-Israel partnership.

 

Now, with Richard Grenell overseeing all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies, Israel’s influence in the U.S. intelligence community has reached new and troubling heights. Yet, his appointment is only the latest move by the Trump administration that places pro-Israel partisans in highly sensitive positions, suggesting that similar appointments are likely in the future, especially if Trump is reelected in November.

Disbelief over Zelensky’s moves in Ukraine

 

I think there is disbelief with this cabinet reshuffle. The general line I have heard is what is President Volodymyr Zelensky doing? Just to reiterate what I said upon Zelensky taking office last year: This guy has the best opportunity to enact transformational reform of any Ukrainian leader over the past 30 years. He had:

 

  • Political capital, having won a landslide election in the presidential poll and then also winning a landslide majority for his Servant of the People Party in the parliamentary election;

 

  • The population wanted reform/change;

 

  • Ukraine was still backed by the West, and the International Monetary Fund had a new loan program teed up to be signed off by the IMF board;

 

  • The macroeconomic setting in Ukraine was the best I have seen in 30 years covering the country – low single-digit inflation, a stable currency, rising foreign-exchange reserves at the National Bank of Ukraine, falling interest rates, suggestive that investment was about to take off, a public debt ratio falling from over 90% to 50% and fiscal and current account deficits reduced to 2% of gross domestic product each;

 

  • And markets had rewarded his team and Ukraine with a collapse in borrowing costs, on hard currency debt from 10% to less than 6%, and in hryvnia from 20% to 10%. Conditions were well set for recovery.

 

In the midst of all that he has decided to almost completely change the team, ousting the reformers, and going back in time to a team that would not look out of place in a Viktor Yanukovych cabinet, circa 2011.

 

He seems to have decided that the conditionality attached by the IMF to the new loan program – of going after oligarchs to recover losses from the 2015-17 banking crisis was just too difficult. Assuming no IMF support he seems to have been sold some snake oil by the old guard oligarchic industrial lobby that there is some other “quick fix” scenario where the budget and a weaker currency are used to pump prime growth, and that Ukraine does not need the IMF.

 

Now going back to Yanukovych circa 2011, that worked for a few years, and back then global monetary conditions were also favorable as they are now – so Ukraine grew rapidly in those years, but at a price of rising twin deficits and rising indebtedness and that all eventually ran out of steam in 2014.

 

But Zelensky had the winning lottery ticket on this one and seems set to set to see it fly away in the wind being blown towards him by oligarchic vested interests.

 

It’s interesting that the fate of the former Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk was sealed when his conversation with his economy team, and the National Bank of Ukraine, was recorded, and then published in the Ukrainian media (presumably by one of these same oligarchic vested interests) whereupon he was heard describing the fact that Zelensky had no grasp of economics. I think events this week have just proven that to be the case.

Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has reportedly been arrested.

 

Petty turned himself in to U.S. Marshals Wednesday after being indicted for failing to register as a sex offender, TMZ reported.

 

The 41-year-old initially faced legal trouble after being pulled over by the Beverly Hills Police Department on Nov. 15, when the department determined he was registered as a sex offender in New York — but not in California, where he now resides, TMZ reported. He was reportedly arrested and charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney at the time and released on a $20,000 bond.

 

The Los Angeles County District Attorney referred PEOPLE to the U.S. Attorney’s office, which did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment. A rep for Minaj also did not immediately respond.

 

Petty is required to register as a sex offender for life after he was convicted for the first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995. He was sentenced to 18 to 54 months but spent four years in prison. Petty is a level two registered offender in New York, which means he’s considered a “moderate risk of repeat offense.”

 

Seven years after the attempted rape conviction, Petty was charged with first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of a man named Lamont Robinson in 2002, according to a criminal complaint obtained by The Blast.

 

The outlet reported that Petty pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge in March 2006 and served seven years in prison after being sentenced to 10. Petty was released in May 2013, and had been on supervised release for five years until May of this year, records accessed by PEOPLE show.

 

In 2018, after a fan criticized Minaj, 37, for dating a sex offender, the rapper defended her then-boyfriend.

 

“He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship. But go awf Internet,” she wrote back. “Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”

 

Last July, Minaj clapped back once again on her Queen Radio podcast.

Washington (AFP) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday demanded an immediate reduction in violence in Afghanistan for the peace process to go forward after what he said was an "unacceptable" spike in Taliban attacks.

 

"The upsurge in violence in parts of Afghanistan over the last couple days is unacceptable," he said at a news conference.

 

"Violence must be reduced immediately for the peace process to move forward."

 

US and Taliban negotiators signed an agreement on Saturday laying out a path toward peace that could lead to the withdrawal of US and foreign forces within 14 months.

 

The signing in Doha was preceded by a week-long reduction in violence across the country.

 

But on Wednesday, the Afghan interior ministry said the Taliban had carried out 30 attacks over a 24-hour period that resulted in the deaths of four civilians and 11 Afghan soldiers.

 

General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, downplayed the severity of the attacks in congressional testimony Wednesday.

 

"What is important, though, for the agreement: we're on day four, this was small, low-level attacks, out on checkpoints, etcetera," he told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

FBI agents in Carter Page probe barred from FISA court requests

he FISA court has temporarily banned FBI agents under disciplinary review in the wiretapping of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page from requesting surveillance authority from the court.

 

The ban was imposed in an opinion issued Wednesday by the secretive court’s chief judge, James E. Boasberg.

 

“FBI personnel under disciplinary review in relation to their work on FISA applications accordingly should not participate in drafting, verifying, reviewing, or submitting such application to the Court while the review is pending,” Boasberg wrote.

 

The judge also said in his 19-page opinion that the same restrictions apply to any Justice Department attorney under disciplinary review, as well as any DOJ or FBI personnel who are the subject of a criminal referral related to their work on FISA applications.

 

Boasberg also stated that the FBI had “omitted or mischaracterized” pieces of information pertaining to the credibility of former MI6 agent Christopher Steele, and the now largely debunked dossier he produced.

 

The FBI’s FISA application implied that Page’s Russian contacts were secret and suspicious, though in reality Page has disclosed them.

 

The ruling also points out that, according to Michael Horowitz’s Inspector General report, someone in the FBI’s Office of General Counsel went so far as to add additional text to an email from another agency stating that Page was not a source, thereby falsifying FISA warrant evidence.

 

The temporary ban comes days before a March 15 deadline for Congress to decide whether to renew several post 9/11 FISA tools.

A new draft law that could make it easier for foreigners to gain permanent residency in China has stirred up a torrent of xenophobia online. At stake in the Consumers Financial Protection Bureau now being argued in the Supreme Court:

 

For the last 100 years Congress has been creating 'Federal Agencies' that don't answer to the Executive Branch, but instead answer directly to Congressional Committees. That is blatantly unconstitutional. The CFPB was enacted as a 'feeding trough' for Congress in that it unilaterally, without courts or law enforcement, audits and 'fines' corporations for hundreds of millions of $$, then turns around and puts that cash into different 'consumer protection non profits (shells for money laundering).

 

If SCOTUS knocks down the CFPB legislation it will create a precedent that President Trump can use to remove all Congressional 'hooks' of unconstitutional direct oversight of Federal Agencies. We're talking the loss of hundreds of millions of $$ that currently get laundered into the pockets of the people that get the Dems and RINOS elected.

 

If the CFPB gets struck down, the Dems and their donors will be effectively financially shut out of their theft of billions of $$ from our tax $$.

 

The CFPB case is the biggest and most consequential case on the SCOTUS docket, without equal. That's why you've never heard about it. They don't want you to know.
