I worked directly with the homeless for a few years so I have a bit of insight into their world. The professional homeless (not just people down on their luck) are almost always lifelong abuse victims and drug addicts, many have been in and out of prison from an early age. Many CAN'T live normal lives, after years of drugs they quite literally neurologically can't in many cases. And it's just not realistic to expect them to.

When troopers were finally able to stop the speeding car with spike strips, the man told them simply that he was “trying to teach his dog how to drive.”

“I wish I could make this up,” Axtman said. “I’ve been a trooper for almost 12 years and wow, I’ve never heard this excuse. I’ve been in a lot of high speed chases, I’ve stopped a lot of cars, and never have I gotten an excuse that they were teaching their dog how to drive.”
