The lab in Wuhan is a large multi-story building. Certainly the coronavirus project was not the only one. There are probably many projects going on in that building. It would be an error in logic to assume that just because Charles Lieber had a connection to the lab that he also had a connection to the coronavirus project. His work is more akin to engineering. We'd need more sauce to know which projects he was working on. I stand by my original assessment.

New York Mosque Continues Operating During Coronavirus, No Word From Authorities

While virtually every church in the United States is shut down due to coronavirus, and those few willing to defy lockdown orders are threatened with arrest or hauled to jail, a New York mosque is operating with impunity during the pandemic.

The mosque, in Syracuse, New York, had its operating procedures detailed by gushing local media, which described how the facility has modified its practices to adhere with social distancing during the China virus pandemic.

Syracuse.com reported:

The room is lined with plastic, and two machines siphon air out of the room to create negative pressure. Air in the room is recycled every four minutes. Elahi used the materials and expertise from his day job to create what he called a “clean room.”

About 10 worshippers in masks are allowed in at a time, though rarely do that many show up. They stand far apart from each other as they follow a prayer leader standing on a plastic-covered prayer rug.

The building, formerly a Catholic church, is disinfected between services – not by cleaning professionals, but by volunteers – and video reveals those worshipers brave enough to leave their homes during the pandemic are not social distancing.

In video to YouTube uploaded by Syracuse.com, a small group of worshipers is seen praising Allah far less than six feet apart, failing to adhere to social distancing procedures and potentially defeating the purpose of worshiping in a room completely covered in plastic.

While this mosque is allowed to operate during the coronavirus pandemic, albeit under slightly modified procedures, Christians are being forced out of their churches across the country.

In Virginia, Governor Ralph Northam, who was exposed for wearing either blackface or Ku Klux Klan robes by National File senior reporter Patrick Howley, has classified churches as “non-essential,” meaning it is a crime for them to open at all.

In Kansas, two churches have sued the state over Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order placing severe restrictions on religious gatherings. The lawsuit has been successful, despite Kelly attempting to invalidate the district court judge’s decision by issuing a new executive order with virtually identical language.

It remains unclear why Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is reportedly being considered as a possible candidate to assume the role of often-confused Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, is allowing the mosque to operate.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she may oppose the next federal coronavirus aid bill for being too small and is urging Republicans concerned about the national debt to help her raise taxes to finance items such as recurring $2,000 direct payments.

The New York Democrat, a self-declared socialist who represents one of the areas hardest-hit by the virus, said Monday, “We cannot bow to the logic that a dime and a crumb is better than nothing. We need to be able to play hardball.”

“If you’re worried about the deficit and if you’re worried about our national debt, let’s raise some taxes,” AOC said in a digital press conference with fellow left-wing members of Congress.

“Let’s make sure that [Amazon founder] Jeff Bezos pays what he needs to pay and contribute to this country. Let’s make sure Facebook pays taxes for once. Let’s make sure Walmart pays taxes for once, so that they don’t pay less than undocumented immigrants do in taxes in the United States of America. So let’s get it together. I’m willing to come halfway, and let’s raise some taxes so that we can bring down the deficit — I’m happy with that.”

The White House is pushing for a $250 billion expansion of a small-business loan program designed to prevent layoffs, which ran out of money last week. Senate Democrats blocked an extension to push for $100 billion in hospital aid and $150 billion for state and local governments.

AOC said she wanted the bill to go even further — authorizing a recurring $2,000-per-month direct payment, plus $1,000 per month per child, regardless of immigration status. Her opposition to a smaller bill could embolden other lawmakers in both parties who almost unanimously passed the $2 trillion stimulus bill last month despite many qualms.

“If you’re going to say and if we’re going to say that this new bill is going to give us $5 and then Congress is gonna peace out for another month-long recess, I’m here to say that that’s not going to help our communities,” she said.

President Trump said last week he supports additional direct payments, though in subsequent legislation. A $2 trillion stimulus bill approved last month delivered an initial $1,200 per person for people earning up to $75,000 and $500 per child.

“We have not seen the final text of this bill. But what I can say is that if it matches up with what has been reported, I will not support this bill,” AOC said Monday. “As the person who’s representing the most impacted districts in the country, my constituents were upset about the first package because it is insulting to think that we can pass such a small amount of money in the context of not knowing when Congress is even going to reconvene.”

Ocasio-Cortez, 30, likened the COVID-19 outbreak to 9/11.

“In my district, and in New York City and in our community, we’ve had more deaths than 9/11,” she said.

“Multiple times of 9/11 have happened in the time since Congress has recessed, so I’m not here with the luxury of time. I need legislation that is going to save people’s lives. And the fact that Republicans do not want to have recurring payments, the fact that Republicans don’t want to fund states and cities, the fact that Republicans don’t want to guarantee people’s health care is unacceptable to me.”

The congresswoman said she could not “insult” her constituents by backing narrow legislation.

“As someone that has to make calls every single day to sons and daughters and widows and parishioners and church leaders and community boards, giving them my condolences, every single day about people in our community who are dying, I am not here for a $5 bill — I’m not. And I will not insult my community with one,” she said.

Still, she said she was relieved the bill would not have a “corrupt” “slush fund,” slamming a $500 billion Treasury Department loan program funded in the initial stimulus.

AOC was joined in the digital press conference by fellow Democratic members of the left-wing “Squad” — Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — as well as Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairs Reps. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin and Pramila Jayapal of Washington.

Jayapal said the 95-member caucus was hoping to influence negotiations on legislation and would make a decision on its position after the bill text is released, which is expected this week.

PharmaR&D fag here. Qteam should be aware that Big Pharma companies like Novartis are masters of clinical trial sabotage especially if a negative trial result benefits their current investments. For example, if Novartis or its affiliate companies already have a COVID19 vaccine and/or expensive small molecule antiviral therapeutic in the pipeline for COVID19, getting a positive trial result and FDA approval of HCQ will undermine their future ROI. Because HCQ is a generic for which no use patent currently exists for COVID19, it is impossible to make this a "blockbuster" monopoly drug. FDA approval of a common generic drug with no patent protection would allow any generic HCQ manufacturer to market the drug under Novartis's NDA. Their stockholders will NEVER allow this to happen.

Therefore, there is a very high probability that this Phase III trial will be designed to fail. How? Easy. For example, by employing high doses known to cause adverse events, recruiting patients with preexisting cardiovascular risks, or who are chronically ill or elderly patients who are already hospitalized and who are unlikely to benefit the most. Remember, it only takes a couple of patients to have severe adverse events or die for the company to halt the trial and claim that the drug is too dangerous to proceed with further testing.

There are numerous examples of such botched trials in the literature if you know what to look for, but some examples include clinical trials on omega3 fatty acids (fish oil) for cardiovascular disease, vitamin E for cardiovascular disease, Niacin for hyperlipidemia, etc. all funded by drug companies where a positive outcome would not benefit their share holders.

For example, Niacin (vitamin B3) was the "gold standard" in treating hyperlipidemia and heart disease for decades, being one of the only "drugs" known to increase HDL (good cholesterol). Numerous clinical trials over the years demonstrated that this cheap and effective treatment reduced all cause mortality by several years. This was a huge problem for Big Pharma who wanted to exploit this potential market, so they had to figure out a way to tarnish Niacin's long held reputation among doctors. So what Merck did was to combine Niacin with one of their own drugs, which had already failed to get FDA approval in a trial with patients who already had low LDL levels. Predictably, the trial failed and actually increased the risk of stroke. The findings were then used in a vast media campaign to tarnish the reputation of this old cheap and effective drug. Novartis will do exactly the same thing to HCQ if giving the opportunity, which appears to be the case.

Doctors say the symptom is not terribly common, but may be part of an autoimmune response that effects patients’ nervous system.

“Clearly it’s been identified, but we’re just not sure yet how widespread it is,” Dr. Daniel Griffin, chief of infectious disease at ProHealth Care Associates, tells The Post.

“If people aren’t used to having fevers, maybe their skin really does feel like an electric sensation,” he says. He advises using an aloe vera gel or mild lotion could help.

Griffin also suspects the reaction, or other cognitive reactions like it, may be a symptom of post-traumatic stress after patients recover from being in the ICU or on ventilators.

“People are used to being sick and then in a few days being all good,” he says. “This infection seems to have this tail to it — a lingering fatigue. There’s kind of a foggy, zombie-like state, where their eyes get glassy and they’re not quite as sharp.”

But the feeling alone may not be enough to go get tested, Shah says.

“It’s not a symptom that’s been well described yet, so just make sure you’re still following isolation procedures,” such as covering your mouth when you cough and washing your hands frequently, Shah says.

For patients experiencing the sensation, Griffin recommends letting the body recover on its own.

“It’s bothersome but benign,” he says. “[Patients’] cognition seems to be doing better with us just waiting. The human body is a pretty impressive construct and often will get better.”

Jamie Lee Curtis Tells Women to Kill Their Babies in Abortions at Home in New Planned Parenthood Ad

What a truly wonderful time it is to be alive. Not only can you get abortion medication in the mail while remaining safe and comfortable in quarantine, you also get your favorite Hollywood stars, like Jamie Lee Curtis, to give you friendly and smiling advice on setting up a “virtual meeting” with abortion doctors, so that you’ll never be confused on how to get rid of your unborn child, no matter where you are.

The Knives Out and Halloween actress announced via Twitter that she had been named the “proud” “spokesperson” for the baby-killing organization’s “Telehealth” program (‘Knives Out for the Unborn” would be a catchy name for it). In a video posted to the platform on April 17, Curtis explained how women seeking “reproductive health” guidance without access to a clinic could “log on” to a designated Planned Parenthood site for a “virtual meeting” with abortion doctors.

“Hi there! It’s Jamie Lee Curtis,” the actress began, giving viewers a warm greeting from quarantine in her home. “I am here today on behalf of Planned Parenthood to tell you about telehealth. It’s their way of helping you through this crisis.” And isn’t that something? PP would just love to add to the pandemic’s death count.

The actress explained “Telehealth,” saying, “It offers you to log on and make an appointment and then have a private, one-on-one sesson with a trained and licensed healthcare professional and talk about your healthcare needs.” Curtis added that it’s done “in complete privacy and safety and it also reduces the load on clinics and hospitals who are dealing everyday with COVID-19 patients.”

The actress concluded the spiel by providing the number to Planned Parenthood’s Telehealth program and details on where patients can log in online. She then signed off saying, “Stay safe, wash your hands, stay home and God bless you all.” Yes, God bless us and the lengths we will go to eradicate the unborn life He has given us. Atrocious.

Though this is just one of the makeshift efforts PP has come up with for women who might not feel safe venturing to an abortion clinic in the midst of quarantine, and as a way to still offer services in states like Texas, Alabama and Arkansas, to name a few, that have deemed abortion clinics to be “non-essential” businesses.

Though the left has been adamant that abortions during the quarantine are at the height of necessity. One odious talking point in particular came from Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MN) who claimed that abortions “are life-sustaining,” and refused suspending abortion procedures. This resulted in the horrible irony that the pool of medical supplies for necessary procedures during a pandemic would go to saving coronavirus victims and killing unborn babies.

Back to Jamie Lee Curtis. This isn’t her first Planned Parenthood rodeo. The actress participated in a tele-thon-style Facebook Live event to benefit Planned Parenthood and the ACLU back in 2017, along with other famous faces like Jane Fonda, Judd Apatow, Patricia Arquette and Tim Robbins. Though this celebrity-sponsored telehealth thing, man, this sounds like the future. Maybe in 10 years, we’ll have Daniel Craig guiding us through DIY euthanasia at home.

Move to take Winter Olympics away from China gathers momentum in conservative circles

A call to take the upcoming Winter Olympic games from China as a penalty for purportedly failing to sufficiently notify the world about a coronavirus outbreak is gaining steam in conservative circles.

Among the first to propose the idea was Hugh Hewitt, a conservative thought leader and syndicated radio talk show host.

Hewitt addressed the issue Friday on his radio show with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Additional concerns include whether the World Health Organization also provided inaccurate and tardy information, in an attempt to perhaps help China.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another leading conservative voice, on Monday advanced Hewitt’s idea, which he called “brilliant.” Gingrich suggested the games be held in Torino, Italy — among the regions hardest hit by the virus and site of the 2006 Olympic Winter games.

“That would be the kind of gesture that would really begin to communicate that the world is fed up with the way the dictatorship operates,” Gingrich said on the Fox News Channel’s morning “Fox & Friends” show.

He also cited research from the conservative-leaning Hudson Institute and the University of Southhampton, in England, suggesting that China’s response to the virus perhaps cost tens of thousands of lives.

L.A. County Study: Coronavirus Outbreak Up to 55 Times More Widespread, Less Deadly than Predicted

The novel coronavirus has infected roughly 4.1 percent of the population in California’s Los Angeles County, suggesting the region’s outbreak is far more widespread than previously thought, between 28 and 55 times higher than the number of confirmed cases, new research shows, echoing the findings of a similar study elsewhere in the state.

However, the new data, if accurate, also indicates that the coronavirus death rate in L.A. County, the most populous in the country, is lower than initially predicted.

Researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) and the L.A. Department of Public Health gleaned the data from antibody testing of about 863 county residents. Antibodies are an indication that an individual’s immune system has responded to a past infection.

On Monday, CNBC reported:

USC and the health department released preliminary study results that found that roughly 4.1% of the county’s adult population has antibodies to the coronavirus, estimating that between 221,000 adults to 442,000 adults in the county have had the infection.

This new estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of Covid-19 [coronavirus illness] reported to the county in early April. The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600, according to the Department of Public Health. The data, if correct, would mean that the county’s fatality rate is lower than originally thought.

If accurate, the top end of the estimated number of L.A. County residents who may have contracted the virus would amount to more than half (56 percent) of the total number of cases in the United States, while the lower range would equal to about 30 percent of the overall number in America.

Stanford University researchers who looked at California’s Santa Clara County, much less populated than its L.A. counterpart, reached similar conclusions, finding that the coronavirus outbreak may be more widespread but less deadly than originally estimated.

The Stanford University researchers found that between 2.5 percent and 4.2 percent of county residents had antibodies to the coronavirus by early April, the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday, adding:

Though the county had reported roughly 1,000 cases in early April, the Stanford researchers estimate the actual number was between 48,000 and 81,000, or 50 to 85 times greater.

The coronavirus mortality rate could be as low as 0.1 percent, “similar to that of flu,” the researchers cited by the Economist found, noting that the faster the disease spreads and hits its peak, the fewer people will die.

In early March, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House Coronavirus Taskforce, predicted a much higher death rate for the United States, saying it could reach two percent.

Ankara's Intent to Deploy Russian S-400 Could Result in US Sanctions

The United States has demanded that Turkey cancel all purchases of the Russian-made S-400 system and instead buy the US-made Patriot missile system. The delivery of the Russian defence missiles to Ankara began in July 2019 and installation and deployment is ongoing, according to reports.

US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus told Reuters on Monday that the US continues to strongly object to Turkey purchasing and implementing Russian-made S-400 missiles, adding that it could result in sanctions on the country through the use of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) .

"We continue to stress at the highest levels that the S-400 transaction is the subject of ongoing CAATSA sanctions deliberations and it remains a major obstacle in the bilateral relationship and at NATO. We are confident that President Erdogan and his senior officials understand our position," Ortagus said in an emailed statement.

The need to focus on slowing the spread the novel coronavirus pandemic has purportedly delayed, but not cancelled, implementing the new S-400 defence system, according to an unnamed senior Turkish official.

"There is no going back on the decision to activate the S-400s (but) due to COVID-19 … the plan for them to be ready in April will be delayed," the official said, cited by Reuters.

The United States claims that the S-400 missiles, delivered by Moscow to Turkey in July 2019, are incompatible with NATO defences and would jeopardise an agreement with Turkey for purchasing US fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter jets. Instead of the S-400, the US has repeatedly demanded that Turkey purchase the US-made Patriot air defence system.

Ankara has refused to make any concessions regarding the S-400 purchase. Earlier in March, the country's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared that the S-400 would enter service in Turkey in April.

It can get tricky if you are out of sync with which way it is going. Never a crime to take some booked profit off the table when you have that chance.

Start slow with your adds and don't put it all in at one price point-because if you are wrong (and you will be at times) you can always peel off a small amount to set aside as your 'kitty' to add if/when the price drops again. That works the best over a longer time frame.

You can also start paper trading first which is to place "trades" that you would do and see how you do. This is not always ideal because imo you make different decisions when you know it is real money at stake-but you have to start somewhere. That's what I did many yrs ago.

He was arrested by the U.S. Department of Defense in January for lying about his association with China’s Thousand Talent Program. It is basically a recruitment plan which seeks to lure Chinese overseas talent and foreign experts to bring their knowledge and experience to China and in return, reward individuals for stealing proprietary information.

Nanowire-Batteries – a Smokescreen?

What’s more concerning is that the affidavit released by the federal prosecutors states that Leiber signed an agreement between Harvard and Wuhan Insitute of Technology. According to the affidavit, the purpose of the agreement was to “carry out advanced research and development of nanowire-based lithium-ion batteries with high performance for electric vehicles.”

However, things don’t add up since the focus of Leiber’s research has never been about nanowire batteries. One nanoscientist and former student of Lieber’s says: “I have never seen Charlie working on batteries or nanowire batteries.” In fact, in all his research papers and patents, there is no mention of “batteries” or “vehicles”.

Although Lieber was released a day later on a $1 million bond, the question remains what exactly was the nature of Leiber’s research.

Leiber and his ‘Virus Transmitters’

Dr. Leiber joined Harvard in 1991. In his early days at the university, he made great strides in the field by growing nanowires in a flask. Researchers before Leiber were already creating wire-like structures with the help of semiconductors, metals and other materials. However, their approach would be quite expensive and would need clean-room facilities like the ones used by computer chip-makers.

In contrast, Lieber could create nanostructures using nothing but simple and inexpensive chemical techniques. He even went a step further to show how these nanowires could be used as transistors, complex logic circuits, data storage devices, and even sensors.

Leiber noted that “continued shrinkage ultimately becomes problematic in terms of just how one achieves [it].” Instead, he created tiny logic circuits and memory – the two main components of a computer – using nanowires. And these circuits were really tiny, some of which just a few atoms across!

Ten years later, Leiber created a transistor so small it can be used to penetrate cell membranes and probe their interiors, without affecting the intercellular functions. The bio-compatible transistor – the size of a virus – can not only measure activities inside a neuron but also heart cells and muscle fibers…

Los Angeles (April 20, 2020) - USC and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) today released preliminary results from a collaborative scientific study that suggests infections from the new coronavirus are far more widespread - and the fatality rate much lower - in L.A. County than previously thought. The results are from the first round of an ongoing study by USC researchers and Public Health officials. They will be conducting antibody testing over time on a series of representative samples of adults to determine the scope and spread of the pandemic across the county. Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600. "We haven't known the true extent of COVID-19 infections in our community because we have only tested people with symptoms, and the availability of tests has been limited," said lead investigator Neeraj Sood, a USC professor of public policy at USC Price School for Public Policy and senior fellow at USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. "The estimates also suggest that we might have to recalibrate disease prediction models and rethink public health strategies." The results have important implications for public health efforts to control the local epidemic.

"These results indicate that many persons may have been unknowingly infected and at risk of transmitting the virus to others," said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health. "These findings underscore the importance of expanded polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing to diagnose those with infection so they can be isolated and quarantined, while also maintaining the broad social distancing interventions." The antibody test is helpful for identifying past infection, but a PCR test is required to diagnose current infection. "Though the results indicate a lower risk of death among those with infection than was previously thought, the number of COVID-related deaths each day continues to mount, highlighting the need for continued vigorous prevention and control efforts," said Dr. Paul Simon, chief science officer at L.A. County Department of Public Health and co-lead on the study. The study's results have not yet been peer reviewed by other scientists. The researchers plan to test new groups of participants every few weeks in coming months to gauge the pandemic's trajectory in the region.

About the study With help from medical students from the Keck School of Medicine of USC, USC researchers and Public Health officials conducted drive-through antibody testing April 10th and 11th at six sites. Participants were recruited via a proprietary database that is representative of the county population. The database is maintained by LRW Group, a market research firm. The researchers used a rapid antibody test for the study. The FDA allows such tests for public health surveillance to gain greater clarity on actual infection rates. The test's accuracy was further assessed at a lab at Stanford University, using blood samples that were positive and negative for COVID-19. In addition to Sood and Simon, other authors and institutions contributing to the study include Peggy Ebner of the Keck School; Daniel Eichner of the Sports Medicine Research & Testing Laboratory; Jeffrey Reynolds of LRW Group; Eran Bendavid and Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University School of Medicine. The study was supported with funding from USC Schwarzenegger Institute, USC Lusk Center, USC President's Office, Jedel Foundation, LRW Group, Soap Box Sample, and several individual donors.

You know there is a lot of confusion in the market when even fundamental, deep-value investing bloggers legends like Howard Marks now flip-flop every single week (accompanied by one investor letter after another) from bearish to bullish and back again, as if so much has changed besides, you know, the stock market:

But while Marks may simply be talking both sides of his book - see "Howard Marks’s Oaktree Seeks $15 Billion for Biggest Distress Fund Ever", the vast majority of traders have legitimately lost the plot, and merely follow momentum or whatever the algos are doing at any given moment.

As Deutsche Bank's Jim Reid explains, the most confusing thing in the market at the moment is the huge dichotomy between what will possibly be one of the worst synchroniszd global economic slumps in history against what is undoubtedly the largest ever intervention. On the second point, DB’s Alan Ruskin showed that global central bank balance sheet expansion has already spiked by $2.7 trillion since early March which now comfortably eclipses the full peak 12-month increase seen during the GFC (under $2.5tn). This is the same amount as the annual total GDP of either the UK or French economies. Two thirds of this increase has come from the Fed so far.

Again using Reid's back of the envelope calculations, "given that the global economy is worth around $80 trillion dollars annually and that the IMF last week said it would fall -3% in 2020 (in real terms under the base case) that’s potentially ‘only’ $2.4 trillion of lost activity. Relative to the pre-covid trend they forecast $9 trillion of global GDP losses by the end of 2021." And even if one thinks these numbers are a bit low, when central banks have so far pumped in an annualized $23.4 trillion into the financial system you can see how it’s hard to get a feel for where markets can go, besides eventually becoming a replica of the world's best performing market, of course - that of Venezuela.

And while it unlikely that central banks will keep up that pace of liquidity injections unless economies fall even further but could you really have a situation in 1-2 months’ time where economies are still struggling to fully open and yet equity markets are back at record highs? While Reid doesn't think so one certainly can't rule it out given the ginormous liquidity injections. As he concludes "crazy times and we haven’t even mentioned the government injections."

And speaking of Alan Ruskin, here is why the German bank's macro strategist said that "Global QE is already on another scale."

By almost any metric Central bank balance sheet expansion in the last few weeks has already exceeded anything seen in the 2008/9 crisis period. In the last six weeks alone, G10 Central banks have expanded their collective balance sheet by $2.7 trillion, and 2/3rds of this comes from the Fed.

The Fed has stepped up into a role sometimes seen by China, in its credit policies, and sheer scale of support.

The steep ascent of Central Bank balance sheets has of course been more than matched by the collapse in the global economy. Unprecedented QE policy accommodation will then build substantially from here, which warrants asking all the usual questions about what this might reap? The answers unfortunately belie simplicity. QE delivers very different results depending on circumstance, but in general, the marginal risk appetite gains from QE will wane with time.

The Fed appears to be working under the premise that in past crises of historic proportion, there are almost no occasions when the monetary authorities are remembered and accused of doing too much. So why not load the bazooka with the kitchen sink and go nuclear?

Theoretical models typically would see large scale QE as negative for a currency, but in this instance, the initial positive QE impact on risk (helping EM and commodity currencies) but also seen as an alternative to negative rates, is a mixed bag for the USD, enough to leave the USD choppy at elevated levels….
