1st UK government minister quits IN PROTEST over Cummings lockdown violation saga

The under-secretary of state for Scotland has become the first UK government minister to resign from cabinet after PM Boris Johnson’s chief adviser Dominic Cummings allegedly broke lockdown rules at the height of Covid-19 crisis.

In his resignation letter, published on social media on Monday morning, junior minister Douglas Ross insisted that he had constituents who had not been able to say “goodbye to loved ones” and were not allowed to “mourn together” as a family during the coronavirus pandemic.

I cannot in good faith tell them they were all wrong and one senior adviser to the government was right.

Ross wrote that while Cummings’ “intentions may have been well meaning,” the vast majority of Brits do not agree with his interpretation of the lockdown rules – measures the public has had to strictly abide by.

During his press conference on Monday, Cummings offered a lengthy defense of his 260-mile lockdown trip across England – from his primary residence in London to his parents’ estate in Durham in the north east of the country. His lack of apology has sparked fury across the political spectrum and left many asking more questions.

The 48-year-old claims the journey was justified because he was worried that his ill wife and he – who had been in close working contact with Covid-19-infected Downing Street figures such as the UK PM, could become too incapacitated to look after their four-year-old child.

Reacting to the resignation, a Downing Street spokesman it would not be drawn on the precise nature of Ross’ protestations, but did say that “The Prime Minister would like to thank Douglas Ross for his service to government and regrets his decision to stand down as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland.”

New data shows 42% of all COVID-19 deaths have been in nursing homes. When NY is excluded, the rate jumps to 52%.

One of the long-running debates over the ongoing coronavirus lockdowns has been the disproportionate number of COVID-19 deaths in America's nursing homes and how those deaths have skewed the data used to set public policy.

It seems that everyone understands that residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities are the most vulnerable among us. But now we have research that shows just how vulnerable they have been.

New data from the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity has revealed that an estimated 42.4% of all COVID-19 deaths have been in nursing homes and assisted living facilities (or residential care homes).

To show how disproportionate those deaths are compared to the rest of the country, the report points out that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 5.1 million people live in those types of facilities and represent only 1.6% of the total U.S. population.

Yes, 1.6% of the population accounts for 42.4% of all COVID deaths in the U.S. From FREOPP:

Among states reporting nursing home fatalities, death from COVID-19 has struck 0.64% of U.S. residents of nursing homes and residential care facilities. We estimate that 5.1 million Americans over 65 live in nursing homes and residential care facilities; by extrapolating 0.64% across the entire U.S. nursing and residential care home population, we estimate that nursing homes account for 42.4% of COVID-19 fatalities.

The rates are even more disproportionate if you remove New York state's data, which is an outlier because of the state's high share of overall coronavirus cases and deaths as well as its data reporting methods.

When New York's COVID-19 deaths are removed from the equation, nursing homes account for 51.8% of all COVID-19 deaths. More from FREOPP:

This estimate excludes New York State, which is an outlier in terms of its reported share of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. A number of policymakers in New York have alleged that nursing home facilities in that state have been underreporting their COVID-19 fatality figures, possibly because New York State counts as hospital deaths those of nursing home residents who die in a hospital. It could also be that the high number of non-long-term care deaths in New York explain the lower percentage (i.e., a much larger denominator).

What about the rest of the world?

The report noted that the United States' experience with nursing home COVID-19 deaths is not unique.

A study from the International Long Term Care Policy Network looked at deaths in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, FREOPP said.

According to the international study, 40.8% of reported COVID-19 deaths occurred in nursing homes.

Taxpayers to Be Held Liable for On-Duty Cop Accused of Kidnapping, Raping Over a Dozen Woman

Phoenix, AZ — As the Free Thought Project frequently reports, when most people see police lights in their rear view mirror, the last thing they feel is “protected.” When a cop is pulling you over it most likely means that you are about to be extorted for a victimless crime. However, if the cop in the story below was pulling you over, it meant something much worse than mere extortion. If you are a woman, it meant you were about to be kidnapped and raped.

As tFTP previously reported, Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Tremaine Jackson, 43, was arrested last year on a whopping 61 charges of everything from kidnapping to sexual assault. The trooper, who’d been with the department for 13 years is accused of pulling women over and sexually assaulting them.

Now, the taxpayers of Maricopa County are about to be held liable for his sick acts. The lawsuit states that Arizona should be held liable for the wrongful conduct of its officers, employees, agents, districts, divisions, and subdivisions.

Since we reported on the original story, a total of 15 victims have come forward, alleging sex abuse, kidnapping and fraud.

“This event started on May 19th where we received an initial complaint about some inappropriate comments by Trooper Jackson to a female motorist,” said DPS Director Col. Frank Milstead. But this was only the tip of the iceberg.

“While we were investigating that May complaint, on June 11th, we received a second complaint. This one also alleging inappropriate commentary and then also criminal behavior to the extent of sexual abuse,” Milstead said. “Trooper Jackson was using his position as Arizona State Trooper to bargain leniency for favor.”

In other words, this “hero” officer was pulling women over and forcing them to give him sexual favors or face being kidnapped—a situation that only works if you have a badge.

“The Arizona Department of Public Safety is a proud and venerable organization with a storied past,” Milstead said last year. “Most of the employees serve Arizona with pride and integrity. … When one of our own betrays public trust or breaks the law, we respond swiftly and without regret.”

In October, Jackson was booked on multiple counts of sexual abuse, attempted sexual abuse, sexual extortion, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, harassment, forgery, and tampering with a public record, among other charges.

In early September, a total of eight women had come forward with allegations of abuse by this cop. And now that number is 15.

Supreme Court Allows Trans Prisoner’s Gender Surgery to Move Ahead as Lawsuit Continues

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday allowed an Idaho prison inmate to continue with gender surgery at state taxpayers’ expense while the lawsuit over the procedure continues.

According to the Associated Press (AP), Justice Elena Kagan gave the order denying Idaho’s request for a stay, without explanation, but noted that Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito would have sided with the state.

Gov. Brad Little (R) had appealed to the Supreme Court in early May to overturn the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit that ordered state taxpayer dollars to pay for the gender surgery of Mason Edmo, a 32-year-old man who is serving a sentence for sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy in 2011.

The state also asked for a hold on the Ninth Circuit’s order requiring the surgery at the state’s expense to move forward pending the appeal.

“The Ninth Circuit’s decision goes against the text and original meaning of the Eighth Amendment and contradicts more than four decades of Supreme Court precedent,” Little said when he announced filing the appeal to the high Court. “We will vigorously litigate the Ninth Circuit’s unprecedented ruling at the Supreme Court because the taxpayers of Idaho should not have to pay for a procedure that is not medically necessary.”

Edmo’s surgery is scheduled for July while the Supreme Court weighs whether to hear the state’s appeal, reported CBS2 News and AP.

The surgery is expected to cost Idaho taxpayers between $20,000 and $30,000. Afterward, Edmo would be placed in a women’s prison until his scheduled release in July 2021.

Edmo sued the state three years ago, claiming rejection of his state-funded gender surgery caused him distress.

According to the news report, attorney Lori Rifkin said Edmo was in such distress that he “twice tried to cut off [his] testicles in [his] prison cell.”

However, James Shupe, the man who became the first person to obtain a legal sex designation of “non-binary” and now asserts the transgender lifestyle is a “fraud,” told Breitbart News in comments he believes Edmo’s claims are false.

“The ACLU argues Edmo attempted to castrate himself because is a female trapped in a male body,” Shupe explained. “The truth is its self-hatred of his genitals because of the behaviors they’ve fueled and sexual paraphilias at work. Or in the case of pedophiles, they’re so distressed about the urges to harm others, they’re willing to engage in self-harm or chemical castration to turn off the dangerous urges. Transgenderism works the same way for males.”

The narrative: Every time someone says baking soda raises body pH, and helps kill cancer, the Doctors reply with common sense and say:

"You can not raise blood pH with out getting into serious trouble and ending up in the emergency room."

True.

Lets set that aside as fact.

However, consider the following:

This is apparently not the mechanism by which bicarbonate helps kill cancer. You do not need to change blood pH at all.

I was pondering this one night, and it hit me. As the bicarbonate passes by the tumor, the OH- groups of the bicarbonate (basic) pick off all the H+ ions in the tumor. Together they create H-OH, or…. H2O or…. neutral water.

Turns out the tumor is helping to neutralize the blood as well, by donating hydrogen atoms, thus raising the cancer tumor pH and decreasing the acid in the tumor while keeping the blood pH as neutral as water production can.

YouTube is deleting comments with two phrases that insult China’s Communist Party

YouTube is automatically deleting comments that contain certain Chinese-language phrases related to criticism of the country’s ruling Communist Party (CCP). The company confirmed to The Verge this was happening in error and that it was looking into the issue.

“This appears to be an error in our enforcement systems and we are investigating,” said a YouTube spokesperson. The company did not elaborate on how or why this error came to be, but said it was not the result of any change in its moderation policy.

But if the deletions are the result of a simple mistake, then it’s one that’s gone unnoticed for six months. The Verge found evidence that comments were being deleted as early as October 2019, when the issue was raised on YouTube’s official help pages and multiple users confirmed that they had experienced the same problem.

Comments left under videos or in live streams that contain the words “共匪” (“communist bandit”) or “五毛” (“50-cent party”) are automatically deleted in around 15 seconds, though their English language translations and Romanized Pinyin equivalents are not.

The term “共匪” is an insult that dates back to China’s Nationalist government, while “五毛,” (or “wu mao”) is a derogatory slang term for internet users paid to direct online discussion away from criticism of the CCP. The name comes from claims that such commenters are paid 50 Chinese cents per post.

These phrases seem to have been accidentally added to YouTube’s comment filters, which automatically remove spam and offensive text. The comments are removed too quickly for human moderation and are deleted even if the banned phrases are used positively (e.g., “The 五毛 are doing a fantastic job”). YouTube says it’s been relying more on its automated filters in recent months due changes to its workforce brought about by the pandemic.

The accidental censorship is even more puzzling considering that YouTube is currently blocked in China, giving its parent company, Google, even less reason to censor comments critical of the CCP or apply moderation systems in accordance with Chinese censorship laws.

The automatic deletion of these phrases was highlighted on Tuesday by US technologist and former Oculus founder Palmer Luckey on Twitter. But earlier reports of the issue date back to the middle of May when they were spotted by human rights activist Jennifer Zeng. As mentioned above, though, The Verge also found complaints on YouTube’s official help pages dated to October 2019.

President Ghani promises to expedite the releases

The Eid al-Fitr holiday began on Monday, and so did the Afghanistan ceasefire announced by the Taliban. Early signs are very promising, and everything seems to be holding. The Ghani government even released 100 prisoners as part of the process.

This is just a small number of prisoners, part of what President Ghani says will be 2,000. Officials reportedly plan to release 100 prisoners per day, and there is hope that the ceasefire will be extended beyond the 3-day truce.

The ceasefire seems to be following the similar path of the Eid al-Fitr ceasefire in 2018. That ended after three days, though the release of prisoners could go a long way toward extending the ceasefire as part of a bid for outright peace.

This is the most progress toward intra-Afghan peace since the US and Taliban signed a peace deal. This is a big chance to make up for lost time from past refusals to meet prisoner release expectations, and get the process going in a big way.

Digital evidence can be any sort of digital file from an electronic source. This includes email, text messages, instant messages, files and documents extracted from hard drives, electronic financial transactions, audio files, video files. Digital evidence can be found on any server or device that stores data, including some lesser-known sources such as home video game consoles, GPS sport watches and internet-enabled devices used in home automation. Digital evidence is often found through internet searches using open source intelligence (OSINT).

7. Direct Evidence

The most powerful type of evidence, direct evidence requires no inference. The evidence alone is the proof.

8. Documentary Evidence

Most commonly considered to be written forms of proof, such as letters or wills, documentary evidence can also include other types of media, such as images, video or audio recordings, etc.

9. Exculpatory Evidence

This type of evidence can exonerate a defendant in a – usually criminal – case. Prosecutors and police are required to disclose to the defendant any exculpatory evidence they find or risk having the case dismissed.

10. Forensic Evidence

Forensic Evidence is scientific evidence, such as DNA, trace evidence, fingerprints or ballistics reports, and can provide proof to establish a person’s guilt or innocence. Forensic evidence is generally considered to be strong and reliable evidence and alongside helping to convict criminals, its role in exonerating the innocent has been well documented. The term “forensic” means “for the courts”.

11. Hearsay Evidence

Hearsay evidence consists of statements made by witnesses who are not present. Hearsay evidence is not admissible in court.

12. Physical Evidence

As would be expected, evidence that is in the form of a tangible object, such as a firearm, fingerprints, rope purportedly used to strangle someone, or tire casts from a crime scene, is considered to be physical evidence. Physical evidence is also known as “real” or “material” evidence. It can be presented in court as an exhibit of a physical object, captured in still or moving images, described in text, audio or video or referred to in documents.

How To Start An OP

This document provides simple guidleines on creating an operation (OP). If you have any questions after reading through the guide, ask in general thread.

It is highly recommended that you read all the way through this guide at least once before you start following the steps to create your op.

First things first, check to see if the op you want to start has already been created by someone else or if there's an op with a similar enough topic that you can discuss merging your op with that existing one. After all, there's really no need for 14 different ops all trying to do the same thing, when there could be one thread with all those people working together and getting much more accomplished. If you don't know how to find a list of ops look in warroom section of dough.

Checklist

Before you move forward with the idea, there are few things you should take into consideration:

-What is the purpose of the op? What are you trying to accomplish? What kind of message are you trying to spread? Make sure that the operation has a foundation that has been thoroughly thought out so that the op doesn't have to suffer later because of poor planning.

-Why should people care about the op? The op is nothing if no one cares about it. Clearly, you care about it so you had better be able to tell the rest of us why we should also care. While we encourage ops, it should also be said that not every grievance and/or government wrongdoing is a reason to rally an op.

-What are the relevant/vital pieces of information relating to the op? Assume nobody else but you know anything about the topic of the op. Gather the more important information that will get people up to speed quickly. (memes and intel)

-How will you communicate the op to the public? Whether you are going to use Facebook, Twitter, videos, press releases, etc. have a solid plan on how to execute and spread the op.

Press Release

Once you have gone through the checklist, it may be a good idea to prepare a Thread that consolidates the information/data you have collected. This way, you can link people to a single document about your op that will help them get started.

There are also many other services you can use to host the press release, some of the more popular being pastebin and Riseup pad. Note that if you use an etherpad, such as Riseup pad or Titanpad, anyone who has the link to the pad can edit it, meaning that your press release can easily be edited or even deleted entirely (in other words, beware of trolls). On the other hand, etherpads are a very good tool to use to collaborate on press releases, as several people can contribute at once, whereas most paste services (such as pastebin) do not allow edits to be made.

The general format of an operation press release is as follows:

Title: Hopefully this is pretty self-explanatory, much as your title should be. Aim for a short, easy to understand title. You don't want your readers getting bored before they even get past the title!

Mission statement: This is the "Greetings, citizens of the world" section. There are two methods typically used to write this part of a press release (some brave writers choose to try both):

No matter how you choose to write your mission statement, make sure that it very clearly explains both the background of your operation and your goals for the operation.

How you can help: Make sure that you give people who want to participate clear directions on how they can help - direct them to your thread, explain what actions are needed, and consider providing a list of any links that may be useful, e.g. social media accounts, tutorials, or news stories.

Pay particular attention to how you are wording your press release. Many ops have failed to attract people simply because of terribly-written press releases. This is not the place to rant about how if X person is elected president, a genocide will occur and volcanoes will explode and night will never end. In other words, present your point of view in a clear, level-headed manner. Hyperbole and sheer ridiculousness will serve only to drive people away from your op - not to draw them in.

Your “Immunity Passport” Future Begins To Materialize As Airlines Call For Digital ID Tracking Systems

The world’s largest airline trade group has called for immunity passports, thermal screening, masks, and physical distancing to be a part of the industry’s strategy for returning to “normal” operations.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents 299 airlines, recently issued their publication, Biosecurity for Air Transport A Roadmap for Restarting Aviation, which outlines their strategy to open up air travel as governments begin to lift travel restrictions.

Under a section titled, “The passenger experience” and “Temporary biosecurity measures,” the IATA describes their vision of post-COVID-19 flights. The organization calls for contact tracing, a controversial method of tracking the civilian population to track the spread of COVID-19.

“We foresee the need to collect more detailed passenger contact information which can be used for tracing purposes,” the report states. “Where possible, the data should be collected in electronic form, and in advance of the passenger arriving at the airport including through eVisa and electronic travel authorization platforms.”

Interestingly, this call for pre-boarding check-in using “electronic travel authorization platforms” coincides with the recent announcement of the Covi-Pass and the Health Pass from Clear, both of which call for a digital ID system using biometrics and storing travel, health, and identification data.

Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s CEO, told Arabian Industry that “a layered approach” combining multiple measures which are “globally implemented and mutually recognized by governments” are “the way forward for biosecurity.”

The IATA also calls for temperature screening at entry points to airport terminals. They envision the airline experience involving physical distancing of 3-6 feet throughout the airport. The group believes changes to the airport buildings to allow for physical distancing may be necessary. The IATA also recommended “face coverings” for passengers and protective equipment for airline and airport staff.

China Builds Massive Spying Capacity in Africa

State-linked firms have built almost 200 government buildings on the continent

The Chinese government has established an unparalleled spying capacity in Africa by encouraging Chinese companies such as Huawei to construct government buildings across the continent, according to a recent report.

The report, published by the conservative Heritage Foundation, found that Chinese firms—many of which are state-owned or linked to the government—have built or renovated 186 government buildings in Africa. Many were constructed in the last two decades. Senior Policy Analyst Joshua Meservey, the report's author, said the buildings are "a likely vector for Chinese spying," given the Chinese government's history of using such buildings to spy on its inhabitants.

"Beijing may have better surveillance access to Africa than anywhere else in the world," the report reads. "The Chinese government could use the information it harvests to advantage its companies competing against American and other firms, glean insights into U.S. security assistance and counterterrorism programs, and recruit or influence senior African government officials."

The report comes at a time of heightened U.S. interest in China’s activities in Africa, where the communist regime has undertaken hundreds of infrastructure projects in a bid for influence. The U.S.-China Economy and Security Review Commission—a bipartisan body sanctioned by Congress to research China-related issues—held a full-day hearing earlier this month to evaluate China’s strategic aims in Africa.

"The Chinese development model [in Africa] often serves to enrich the PRC and expand its perceived sphere of influence," Christopher Maloney, a senior official at the U.S. Agency for International Development, said during the hearing.

Concerns about China-built government buildings first surfaced in 2018, after reports that the African Union headquarters' China-built databank was sending all of its stored information to a Shanghai server every evening. The database was built by Huawei, a federally indicted Chinese tech giant widely accused of acting as a Trojan horse for Chinese spying.

Other government buildings constructed by Chinese companies might serve as conduits of Chinese espionage, according to the report. Some of the possibly compromised buildings include key establishments, such as Guinea-Bissau’s Palace of Justice, which houses not only the country's supreme court, but also administrative courts and the attorney general’s office.

"[Chinese construction projects in Africa] have waxed and waned, but we've definitely been in a waxing period these last few decades," Meservey told the Washington Free Beacon. "It's really since Tiananmen Square in 1989, when China was increasingly isolated internationally and Africa was a strong source of support, and helped break that isolation."

Earlier this month, Grenell cleared for release more than 6,000 pages of transcripts of interviews from the House Intelligence Committee’s long-running Russia investigation. Schiff, under pressure from Grenell and House Republicans, ultimately released the transcripts which revealed, among other things, that top Obama officials acknowledged they knew of no “empirical evidence” of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election. Then, Grenell declassified a list of Obama-era officials who requested to unmask the identity of Flynn in intelligence reports during the presidential transition period. The roster included top-ranking figures including then-Vice President Joe Biden, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-CIA Director John Brennan, then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former President Barack Obama’s chief of staff Denis McDonough, among others. Flynn's calls with the former Russian ambassador during the transition were picked up in surveillance and information about them was later leaked. Flynn’s case returned to the national spotlight after the DOJ moved to dismiss charges against him of lying to the FBI about those conversations, despite a guilty plea that he later sought to withdraw.

Considering those calls raised widespread concerns about Flynn, Democrats like Schiff in turn pressed Grenell for the underlying documents. The transcripts Grenell has declassified, though, are for five phone calls Flynn had with Kislyak on Dec. 29, 2016. Flynn's specific call with Kislyak from Dec. 22, 2016, which was picked up in surveillance and later leaked to the press, is in the FBI's possession, a source told Fox News, noting that it was not in Grenell's jurisdiction to declassify. Meanwhile, last week Grenell moved to declassify an email that former National Security Adviser Susan Rice sent to herself on President Trump’s Inauguration Day, documenting a Jan. 5, 2017, Oval Office meeting with Obama and others, during which the former president provided guidance on how law enforcement needed to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race. The declassified email revealed that Comey suggested to Obama that the National Security Council might not want to pass “sensitive information related to Russia” to Flynn, due to the fact that he had been “speaking frequently” with the Russian ambassador.

The Department of Justice filed a Statement of Interest Monday in an Alabama federal court to promote the proper and uniform interpretation of the Voting Rights Act. The Statement of Interest is part of the Department of Justice’s continuing efforts around the country to enforce our nation’s federal voting rights laws.

The lawsuit in question, brought by private plaintiffs, includes constitutional and statutory challenges to Alabama’s witness requirement for absentee ballots. Although certain of private plaintiffs’ claims relate to the COVID-19 pandemic, plaintiffs have also asked the court to enjoin Alabama’s witness requirement permanently as a violation of Section 201 of the Voting Rights Act.

The Statement of Interest explains that Section 201 prohibits denial of the right to vote to citizens who fail to prove their qualifications by the voucher of registered voters or members of any other class. Alabama’s absentee witness requirement, however, does not violate Section 201. The Statement of Interest does not take a position on any of the private plaintiffs’ other claims.

“The Voting Rights Act outlaws certain practices that deprive Americans of the right to vote because of race and other protected traits. The Voting Rights Act does not outlaw all voting-related requirements enacted by the States,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband for the Civil Rights Division. “Congress has entrusted the U.S. Department of Justice with enforcement of the Voting Rights Act and the other federal voting rights laws. These laws protect the right of Americans to vote for their preferred candidates. We will continue to enforce them fairly, including by explaining to courts the legal framework that governs challenges to the voting laws enacted by the States.”

Section 201 of the Voting Rights Act is a permanent, nationwide prohibition on the use of tests and devices in our elections. These unlawful procedures include literacy tests, educational achievement or knowledge tests, good moral character requirements, and voucher requirements.

Pentagon inspector general removed by Trump resigns

A watchdog who was yanked from his role by President Trump just before he was about to begin oversight on coronavirus spending resigned from the Pentagon.

Glenn Fine, the principal deputy inspector general of the Department of Defense, stepped down from his position in the Pentagon on Tuesday. In a statement announcing his resignation, Fine said it was time for someone else to take his place.

"The time has come for me to step down and allow others to perform this vital role,” he said. "It has been an honor to serve in the inspector general community, both as the inspector general of the Department of Justice and the DOD acting inspector general and principal deputy inspector general performing the duties of the DOD inspector general."

"The role of inspectors general is a strength of our system of government. They provide independent oversight to help improve government operations in a transparent way," he added. "They are a vital component of our system of checks and balances, and I am grateful to have been part of that system.”

Fine was working as acting inspector general for the Defense Department before Trump entered office. He was selected by a group of inspectors general to oversee the implementation of the $2.2 trillion coronavirus economic relief package known as the CARES Act.

The watchdog would have been the chairman of a new Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, but Trump fired him from his role as acting inspector general just before the committee convened. Because he was no longer an inspector general, he could not serve on the committee.

The president temporarily replaced Fine with an inspector general at the Environmental Protection Agency. Fine is one of several inspectors general to be removed by Trump in recent months.

Pentagon watchdog sidelined by Trump resigns

The Pentagon’s former top watchdog, whom President Trump replaced last month, has resigned from the inspector general’s office, officials announced on Tuesday.

Glenn Fine submitted his resignation Tuesday morning as the Pentagon’s principal deputy inspector general, saying in a statement that he believes “the time has come for me to step down and allow others to perform this vital role” after several years at the Department of Defense (DOD) and Justice Department.

"It has been an honor to serve in the inspector general community, both as the inspector general of the Department of Justice and the DoD acting inspector general and principal deputy inspector general performing the duties of the DoD inspector general,” Fine said in a statement.

“The role of inspectors general is a strength of our system of government,” he continued. “They provide independent oversight to help improve government operations in a transparent way. They are a vital component of our system of checks and balances, and I am grateful to have been part of that system.”

He added that he wishes the “men and women of the DoD [Office of Inspector General] and the inspector general community continued success in these important responsibilities."

Fine had been serving as the Pentagon’s acting inspector general since 2016, after coming to the watchdog’s office in 2015. He also served as the Justice Department’s inspector general from 2000 to 2011.

In April, Trump named a new acting inspector general, as well as nominated someone to take on the job permanently. The move meant Fine reverted to his previous position as the Pentagon’s principal deputy inspector general.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman meets with the members of the tiny right-wing Derech Eretz faction to discuss preparations for Israeli annexation of West Bank land.

Derech Eretz is comprised of Communications Minister Yoaz Handel and MK Zvi Hauser. Both are part of Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s bloc in the government. However, despite Gantz’s likely opposition to the annexation push, the two are expected to support it and vote alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party on any such proposal.

The coalition deal between Netanyahu and Gantz allows the former to pass annexation with a Knesset majority even without Blue and White’s support. Netanyahu has said he plans to do so in early July.

Twitter Verification Purge Targets Mediaite Journalist Who Reported on Obama Spying

Twitter appears to have removed its blue “verified” checkmark from a number of users on the platform over the past few days, a purge that included Rudy Takala, a journalist for Mediaite who reported on former President Obama’s abuse of government surveillance powers. Takala reported that Twitter removed his “verified status” an hour after he tweeted out his column about the Obama spying allegations. “I tweeted this column about the Obama administration spying on journalists at 5:47 Thursday,” said Takala. “Around an hour later, my verification badge magically disappeared.”

The Mediaite column was a report on recent statements made by investigative journalist Sharyl Atkisson. Atkisson, formerly of CBS, alleges that her computer was spied upon by the Obama justice department in 2013 and 2014. She has been fighting a long-running legal battle with the Justice Department over the allegations, and recently moved to reopen the recently-dismissed case after a whistleblower provided new information, implicating Rod Rosenstein. It seems that other users on Twitter have also been deverified in recent days. Podcast host Josh Lekach reported that he lost his verified badge shortly after posting an interview with Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer, who is running in the GOP primary for FL-21. Loomer has filed lawsuits against Twitter as well as other major tech companies over politically biased censorship. “I interviewed Laura Loomer yesterday, and today my Twitter verification badge is gone,” said Lekach.

Conservative app developer Doriano Carta, previously a writer for Mashable and GigaOm, reported that his verified badge had also disappeared. It is unclear how many others have been deverified, or why. Twitter has yet to release any public statements on the matter, and has yet to respond to Breitbart News’ request for comment.
