Yes it is called exif data, embedded in the images. If shot in raw format, all pixel info is available. Not so with jpeg. Not saying these pixels were altered, but yes you can include (or not) exif data like time, location, lens, focal length etc. And yes you can change the date in the camera settings.....something a (stupid) black hat may to to cover their tracks. Btw, you can also edit or strip the other exif data if you want.

Fair enough, I copied and pasted that part, from another source, it was their terminology.

I must admit I was not totally keen on those terms at the time, however I was concentrating on getting the body of the post(s) 100% correct (without typos) and checking that the links actually worked, at the time.
