CNN Publishes Explainer About How to Convince Your 5-Year-Old They Need a COVID Vaccine

CNN has published an explainer on how to convince your five year old child that they need a COVID vaccine.

Last week, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they have asked the US Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use authorization for their controversial vaccines to be administered to children as young as five years old.

For their propaganda article, the network spoke to pediatrician and child development expert Dr. David Hill — who admits that “the data on the dose for 5- to 11-year-olds is not out yet to be scrutinized.”

When asked if he believes children will be concerned about getting the shot, he said that it depends on if the parents are excited for it or not. He went on to admit that there isn’t data available about how these rushed vaccines effect such young children.

“Kids always want to know, ‘Am I going to be OK?’ As parents, we need to be able to give them honest and reassuring answers. The data on the dose for 5- to 11-year-olds is not out yet to be scrutinized, but based on our experience with the other vaccines, we hope we’re going to be able to say, ‘Yes, this is very safe, and yes this will keep you from getting sick,'” Hill said.

The CNN propagandist then asked, “kids want to know whether they can go on playdates with their friends, visit their grandparents over the upcoming holidays and take pictures with Santa. Do we know yet if that will be possible for vaccinated children?”

The doctor said that this will depend on if everyone does what they’re told and gets the shot.

“I certainly hope that over time, we’re going to see that these vaccines in younger children are super effective, so effective that we can stop taking other precautions. But I think it will really depend on everybody doing their part and squashing this virus to just a point where it’s no longer a major threat,” the pediatrician said.

The article went on to say that even if kids are vaccinated, they should not stop wearing masks.

When asked why a parent should give their child the vaccine — which they already admitted that they do not have enough data on — the doctor said that parents need to just “trust the process” and let their children be used as guinea pigs.

“Now, our scientists are constantly getting smarter and learning more. That is a strength, but it can be confusing for people who say, ‘Well, you flip-flop. You change your mind. I can’t trust what you tell me.’ But science is a process of constantly learning. You get some early clues, and you work with those clues, and then you get better information and things change. Trust the process,” Hill said.

The pediatrician went on to tell the propaganda outlet that they should trust this vaccine because other vaccines work.

“We know from the history of vaccines, and the history of the Covid-19 vaccine in adults and in children age 12 and older, that giving the vaccine is much, much safer than having your child get Covid-19,” he concluded.

Tuesday night, at Manuel's, I was provided with a packet of documents containing police reports and various witness accounts of Vernon Jones' alleged rape of a "29 year old aspiring singer at his [Vernon Jones'] home in south DeKalb County on the night of Dec. 28." [Source: 1/5/2005 11Alive article "DeKalb CEO Denies Rape Allegation"]. As you probably know, DeKalb County District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming decided not to prosecute "at the accuser’s request," which in turn made Vernon Jones elicit the response that "the D.A.’s decision not to prosecute proves the rape accusation was false." [Source: 11/5/2005 11Alive article "Jones' Accuser Finally Speaks Out"] Of course, that isn't necessarily true, because the DeKalb County D.A. said "nothing was proven or disproven."

Last night, I finally got around to reading the police report and the victim's account of what happened at Vernon Jones' home the night of December 28, 2004. I have to warn you that these documents contain very explicit material, but I want the world to read what I've read and make their own judgements. So here they are:

Horror Sochi head-on collision involving daughter of Putin’s mentor & former presidential candidate Sobchak kills one person

At least one woman was killed after a car carrying journalist, liberal socialite, and former presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak collided head-on with another vehicle on a mountain road in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The accident happened late on Saturday as a rented Mercedes S500 was carrying Sobchak and two of her associates from the ski resort town of Krasnaya Polyana, a key site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, to Sochi airport. Sobchak had apparently been in Sochi to host a corporate event.

The driver of the Mercedes, with whom Sobchak said she had no connection, attempted to overtake a bus, driving into the oncoming lane, but ended up crashing head-on and at high speed into a Volkswagen Polo.

There were three people in the Volkswagen. A 35-year-old female passenger was killed on the spot, while the driver and another passenger, a 29-year-old woman, were rushed to hospital in a critical condition. After the initial collision, the Mercedes veered into the bus, which had 10 people aboard, but none of them was hurt.

Neither the driver nor the passengers of the Mercedes sought medical help at the scene, and media reports suggest it wasn’t they who had called for an ambulance. Sobchak subsequently got into another car and continued to the airport, where she reportedly took a flight to Moscow.

She took to Telegram on Sunday to confirm that she had been involved in the accident, expressing her “horror and shock that people have died.” The 39-year-old social-media darling wrote that she had been rendered unconscious as a result of the impact and had later been diagnosed with a concussion and multiple sites of internal bruising. Sobchak says that she had refused hospitalization in Sochi and had left the Black Sea resort city because she wanted to be with her son.

The corruption of a county and the demoralization of its police department

Let’s face it; DeKalb County is just plain corrupt. It all started or at least it started surfacing with Vernon Jones. When Vernon took office, he left a job as a telecommunications manager making about 38 thousand dollars a year and living in a condominium valued at 54 thousand dollars.

Not long after his election, he was involved in a very controversial land deal in Lithonia. He bought 54 acres of prime real estate adjoining land set aside for green space. He paid $550,000.00 for the land. Vernon said the land, which was a farm, reminded him of his youth and the land was his paradise, promising to never sale.

In four (4) short years, Vernon sold the land to a church with no assets for $770,000.00. In just one year later, the church turned around and sold the land to another church for $917,000.00. The land Vernon said he would never sale is now on the market for over 2 million dollars, being advertised as a great place for development.

Then comes in Vernon’s security detail that included a sergeant making over one hundred thousand dollars a year with overtime. The sergeant probably violated federal and state laws by running vehicle tag numbers related to his domestic problems. Another person, then a lieutenant, was caught running tag numbers. There was a Grand Jury investigation. Eventually Chief Eddie Moody was forced to resign for refusing to lie during the Grand Jury hearing. Others were only transferred and some promoted.

Louis Graham was brought in as Chief of Police by Vernon. Graham’s first item on his agenda was to use the power of the police department for his own personal use. He created a task force to prove the innocence of convicted serial child killer; Wayne Williams. After untold thousand of man hours and dollars, Wayne Williams is still a convicted serial child killer.

Derwin Brown, a police captain defeats Sidney Dorsey for Sheriff of DeKalb County in a fair and legal election. Sidney Dorsey adds Third World politics to it the mix and has Sheriff elect Brown gunned down in his driveway. Dorsey is convicted of murder and admits his role.

Louis Graham’s Assistant Chief of Police, Ray Flemister is heard on audio tape deliberately holding back white officers from being promoted simply based on their skin color. Both Graham and Flemister are forced to resign and the county settles civil lawsuits out of court.

Vernon Jones convenes a team for a nationwide search for a Police Chief. Vernon ignores the recommendations and hires Terrell Bolton who was fired as Chief of Police of Dallas Texas. Bolton arrives on the scene, spends millions of dollars on unneeded recreational vehicles, forces into retirement or demotes the command staff, brings in his friends and friends of friends as a regime.

During Bolton’s short time as chief, Recorders Court is rocked by a scandal where 90 to 120 million dollars are unaccounted for. That’s right, 90 to 120 million dollars! Clerks in the court are caught taking bribes for dismissing traffic violations. The manager of the court was moved to Bolton’s office. No one is held accountable with an investigation that was in name only. The Chief Recorders Court judge was appointed by Vernon.

The Tax Commissioners Office apparently made deals with developers who then made deals with property buyers, who would not have to pay property taxes for years. This has cost the county and cities within the county hundreds of thousands of dollars. Again, no one is held accountable nor is there a known criminal investigation.

Three people who work for Sheriff Tom Brown were indicted for stealing $350,000.00 related to civil court proceeds.

One killed, 14 injured after ‘hellish’ shootout in bar in Saint Paul, Minnesota

One woman is dead and 14 people are injured after a gunfight broke out in a bar in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Police are looking for “several shooters,” and no arrests have yet been made.

Police were called to a bar in downtown Saint Paul in the early hours of Sunday morning, and came upon a “hellish situation,” spokesman Steve Linders told reporters. Gunshot victims stumbled onto the sidewalk outside the bar, while others lay wounded inside.

Lebanese Army Seizes Over 28 Tons Of Ammonium Nitrate In Town With Terror Ties

The Lebanese Army announced this week that it has seized over 28 tons of ammonium nitrate during a raid at a gas station in Arsal in the Bekaa region, which is near the border with Syria. The fertilizer can be used in bomb-making, and the seizure comes after hundreds of tons of the same substance caused the August 2020 blast which killed 200 people and decimated whole neighborhoods in Beirut.

"Following information about the presence of ammonium nitrate in the town of Arsal, on October 4, an army patrol and military intelligence raided a gas station in the town, and seized 28,275 kilogrammes of ammonium nitrate," Lebanon's army announced in a Tuesday statement.

Three Syrian men and a Lebanese citizen were arrested for improper storage, and possible charges that they skirted proper permits from the Economy Ministry - though it remains that given the area it was found is also a farming community, it could be that it was legitimately meant to be used as fertilizer. Some reports said it was being stored in a truck at the gas station.

According to Middle East news source The National, "The quantities seized on Monday sparked fears among Lebanese that dangerous chemicals continue to be improperly stored, putting the country at risk of another incident at a time of economic crisis."

Currently Lebanese authorities are testing it the substance to see its concentration, according to the army statement: "It added that the bags storing the material indicated a nitrogen content of 26 per cent. The Army sent samples of the seized substance to check the percentage of nitrogen it contains."

Arsal is a town that has been under the authorities' microscope ever since the height of the Syrian war. "Arsal has become notorious in Lebanon after extremists from Syria briefly took over the small border town and engaged in deadly clashes with the Lebanese army in 2014," The National noted.

16 Dead After Russian Skydive Plane Crashes

A Russian military plane used for commercial use crashed in Eastern Europe on Sunday in the Russian republic of Tatarstan, killing 16 people and injuring seven, according to RT News.

The L-410 Turbolet plane had 22 on board, including a group of parachute jumpers. The incident occurred around 0923 local time near the town of Menzelinsk, about 600 miles east of Moscow.

Russian Emergency Ministry said 16 perished in the crash, including two pilots, but six people were extracted from the wreckage alive.

Aviation sources told TASS the accident could've been due to excessive weight onboard aircraft that impacted flight operations. Weight and balance have a direct effect on the stability and performance of the plane. Other reports indicate the plane may have suffered engine failure.

Although Russia has increased aviation safety standards over the last decade, crashes of aging Soviet-era planes are not uncommon. In July, an Antonov An-26 turboprop aircraft crashed into the sea near the remote Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's far east, killing 28.

Newer Russian planes have also experienced recent crashes. In 2018, an An-148 regional jet plunged into a field just after takeoff from Moscow, killing all 71 aboard. In 2019, a Russian-made Sukhoi SSJ-100 jet burst into flames as it touched down on a runway in Moscow, killing 41.

As for the latest incident, the cause of the crash has yet to be officially announced.

Massive blast in Yemen’s Aden leads to casualties, but governor targeted survives – reports

A major explosion rocked the Red Sea port of Aden in Yemen on Sunday, with local media saying a car bomb had been targeted at a convoy of officials travelling across the city.

Images from Aden uploaded to social media have captured what appears to be plumes of black smoke coming from the site of the attack.

A vehicle rigged with explosives targeted the convoy of Aden’s governor, Ahmed Lamlas, who survived the blast, sources told local media.

Unnamed officials who talked to the AFP news agency said four people had been killed in the explosion, and eyewitnesses told Reuters they’d seen at least two charred bodies at the site.

The key southern port of Aden became the seat of the internationally recognized Yemeni government after most of the country, including the capital Sanaa, fell into the hands of Houthi rebels in 2014.

Southern Yemen has recently been paralyzed by the struggle for power between the government of exiled president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The former allies of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition against the Houthis have fallen apart, with all attempts by Riyadh to end the standoff so far proving unsuccessful.

There were clashes and gunfire in Aden last Saturday, which saw armored vehicles deployed in the city and at least four fatalities were reported.

‘He’s a Monster!’—Cop Sentenced to 20 Years After Admitting He’s a Serial Child Rapist

Jacksonville, FL — It was a dramatic day in a Jacksonville courtroom this week as multiple child victims spoke out at disgraced officer, Matthew Butler’s sentencing hearing. After facing a slew of charges related to the sexual assault of multiple children under the age of 10, Butler pleaded guilty to just three charges. However, they were so horrific, that he received two decades in a cage.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, the child-raping cop pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted capital sexual battery involving two separate survivors. A third charge involving a third survivor was resolved and incorporated into the plea agreement.

Butler had faced more than a dozen charges, including child porn and molestation, but they were all dropped as part of the plea deal. Despite dropping the charges, Butler still received a far steeper sentence than most cops in his shoes.

His victims took to the stand in the tear-filled courtroom to recount the horror this “monster” has caused them.

One of Butler’s victims, now just 15, took to the stand and told the courtroom how this man’s abuse has ruined her life but she stays alive just to make sure he pays.

“Every time I think I am past it, a sound or something I see makes it all come back to the day it happened,” the first survivor to speak said. “I feel humiliated and worthless thinking about what happened. It’s a struggle to get out of bed every morning because I wish I could just disappear, and all of this would just go away.”

Another victim told the courtroom that she now sees Butler’s face in men on the street causing her a life of suffering.

“Every day since you took my childhood from me at the age of 8, you Matthew Butler made it impossible for me to walk down the road at night,” she said. “When I go anywhere and I see someone who is bald and looks as evil as you, all I remember is you Matthew, your mugshot. Your mugshot is imprinted in my brain, imprinted in my brain so bad I hurt myself because of you.”

The child victim said that making sure Butler ended up in prison was the reason she’s made it through all these years.

“But then I stop and remember I have to stay alive for this day to get justice not just for me but for every single girl in this courtroom,” the 15-year-old survivor said.

Naturally, despite Butler pleading guilty, his attorney maintains his innocence, claiming Butler doesn’t remember any of it.

Georgia plane crash kills CEO, three others: ‘It happened pretty fast’

A financial firm CEO was killed along with three others when a small plane that he was flying crashed shortly after takeoff in Georgia, according to reports.

Jonathan Rosen, 47, the chief executive of Entaire Global Companies, was the pilot of the single-engine Cessna P210N when it went down and burst into flames Friday afternoon at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, FOX 5 of Atlanta reported.

None of the passengers survived the crash.

The victims were identified as Rosen, his 14-year-old relative, the teen’s friend, and another family friend, the outlet reported.

Video shows flames consuming the aircraft as witnesses look on in horror.

“It crashed, it landed, and I don’t know if it was just a hard landing but it flipped and then it caught fire,” photographer Keith Berry, who witnessed the crash, told the outlet.

“It happened pretty fast. And the fire, it turned over and smoked for a second, and engulfed in flames.”

No cause has been released for the crash.

China Fails to Address UN Questions on Forced Organ Harvesting, Rights Groups Say

The International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China (ETAC) and two other U.S. rights groups have criticized China for its “inadequate and misleading” responses over credible allegations of the state-sanctioned practice of forced organ harvesting.

The questions were raised in June by nine Special Rapporteurs to the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and members of a working group on arbitrary detention. Together, they said they were “extremely alarmed” by reports of China harvesting organs from detained minorities, including Falun Gong adherents, Uyghurs, and Christians.

The rapporteurs, who are independent experts in the U.N. human rights system, asked China to provide information on the allegations (pdf), including the “legal grounds for the performance of medical examinations on prisoners or detainees,” and the “purpose of such medical examinations.”

China has turned its transplant industry into a profitable business by killing prisoners of conscience and forcibly harvesting their organs, allowing Chinese hospitals to offer patients a matching organ in an extraordinarily short amount of time. Over the years, Beijing has dismissed these allegations as “rumors” and said the country has a national donation system for organ procurement.

China’s stance was rebuked in 2019, when an independent London-based tribunal concluded that state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting has taken place in China for years “on a significant scale.” The report (pdf) stated that it was “certain” that organs are being sourced from imprisoned Falun Gong adherents and they’re “probably the principal source.”

The report also pointed out that Falun Gong adherents in detention were “‘systematically subjected to blood tests and organ examinations.” Blood tests are carried out to check blood groups and tissue types to determine if an organ recipient can be matched with a donor.

Allegations of forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong adherents in detention first emerged in 2006. The adherents, who became targets of China’s persecution in 1999, are still victims of oppression to this day.

On Sept. 24, ETAC, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC), and China Aid Association issued a joint statement criticizing China for failing to adequately respond to the rapporteurs’ questions.

“Once again Chinese officials have failed to provide official statistics on transplantations, waiting times for organ allocation or sources for organs, as requested by U.N. experts in 2006, 2007, and now 2021,” said Susie Hughes, ETAC’s executive director, in the statement.

She added, “It’s time for a global boycott of China’s transplantation sector until innocent minority groups are released and ethical transplant practices are demonstrated by the Chinese state.”

In response to questions on medical examination, the three rights groups said it was not enough for China to simply cite public security guidelines and orders from the cabinet-like State Council.

“The PRC [People’s Republic of China] response provides no new data that would suggest the purpose of these examinations was anything other than an assessment of organ function, required prior to organ removal,” the three rights groups stated.

The groups said China did not respond to a question about its measures “adopted to guarantee the need for donation and transplantation activities to be transparent and open to scrutiny.”

Neither did China properly address another question on “how data is collected to prevent abuse of transplantation systems.”

Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Allen West Says He Has COVID-19

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West, a candidate for the Republican nomination for the governor of Texas, announced late Saturday that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

He wrote on Twitter that he and his wife, Angela West, who had also been diagnosed with COVID-19, both completed monoclonal antibody infusion therapy and “are in the observation period.”

“There’s a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95,” he said. “My chest X-rays do show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I am probably going to be admitted to the hospital.”

According to West’s Twitter account, his wife tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after she was given vaccines for COVID-19 and the flu.

West said he was experiencing “a low grate fever and light body aches” and was “suspending in-person events” pending further notice.

He was “already taking Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin protocols” and did not receive the vaccine.

“LTC West has publicly stated he supports individual choice and this is reflected in his own family,” reads a Twitter post shared on Saturday.

He said on Twitter he had attended an indoor event in Seabrook, Texas. The post described the Mission Generation Annual Gala and Fundraiser as a “packed house.”

West was a former U.S. representative for Florida from 2011 to 2013, and was the chairman of the Republican Party of Texas from 2020 to 2021. He announced in July he was stepping down from the latter role to challenge Gov. Greg Abbott in the 2022 primary race. Abbott is seeking a third term.

West has been critical of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions in the Lone Star state and in October 2020 participated in a protest outside Abbott’s home over the matter. Those restrictions have since been lifted.

A wealth planning entrepreneur is reportedly among four people who died when a small plane crashed and burst into flames just after takeoff at an Atlanta-area airport.

China Prepares for Possible Large-Scale COVID-19 Outbreak: Leaked CCP Documents

The Chinese regime has notified local authorities to prepare for a large-scale outbreak of COVID-19, according to leaked internal documents obtained by the Chinese Epoch Times.

One document, titled “Notice of Further Strengthening of Epidemic Prevention” was issued by the Chinese regime’s State Council, and forwarded by Fujian provincial government to local authorities on Sept. 30.

The other is a “National Day Epidemic Prevention Notice” issued by the State Council on Oct. 1 and distributed by the Fujian provincial officials to local authorities.

The documents are both marked “extra urgent.”

Both notices request enhanced preparations for an emergency response to the outbreak, with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) putting forward at least two standards for local authorities.

One is to build central isolation sites, with local authorities required by the end of October to set up isolation centers and rooms of not less than 20 rooms per 10,000 people. The scale of each isolation site must be more than 100 rooms.

According to public data, the population of Fujian Province in 2020 was 41.54 million. As of Sept. 19, the province has set up 35,691 quarantine rooms in 296 central sites.

Based on the standard in the epidemic prevention notice, Fujian Province will need to build at least 83,000 quarantine rooms by the end of October, which is around 47,000 rooms in less than a month.

According to one expert, the requirements for the COVID-19 quarantine sites reveal the real situation of the pandemic in China.

Dr. Sean Lin, a former virology researcher at the U.S. Army Research Institute, told The Epoch Times: “This reflects the CCP’s concern about the rise of the epidemic. It must have been concealing the true epidemic in mainland China, otherwise it would not suddenly issue a national notice of emergency preparedness.”

“Notice of Further Strengthening of Epidemic Prevention” requires the establishment of a five-layered control system.

It states: “Township and street CCP cadres, community grid staff, grassroots medical workers, police, and volunteers shall jointly implement community epidemic prevention,” such as “strictly implement[ing] community prevention and control,” or locking down residential communities.

Lin said that the control system is actually to tighten social management in local areas, and “the CCP’s purpose is to tighten control.”

“If there is no nucleic acid test, all the CCP’s epidemic prevention measures are the same as political campaigns. For example, you can be quarantined at any time and put in a quarantine site. And the quarantine sites can also be a place of political persecution,” Lin said.

“No matter who you are, as long as the CCP says that you tested positive in a nucleic acid test, it will deprive you of all your rights. The CCP’s quarantine sites are actually an alternative form of concentration camp.”

Protests Erupt Across Italy Over COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Rome and other Italian cities over the weekend to protest against the government’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate—one of the strictest in the world.

Starting on Oct. 15, the country’s “green pass” vaccine requirement will apply to private and public sector workplaces, with both employers and employees risking significant fines if they do not comply. The vaccine passport is already required to enter restaurants, gyms, theaters, and other establishments as well as domestic flights, bus travel, or long-distance train travel.

Some protesters clashed with police as they marched toward Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s office. Police responded by deploying water cannons and tear gas. A group tried to break through police lines to get to Draghi’s office, according to footage and pictures were taken at the event, although footage also showed police swinging batons at the demonstrators.

Draghi denounced the protesters who clashed with police and said his broad unity government remained committed to completing its vaccination campaign.

“The right to demonstrate to support one’s ideas can never degenerate into acts of aggression and intimidation,” he said in a statement issued by his office.

A similar statement was issued by CGIL, one of Italy’s largest unions, after demonstrators marched on the organization’s offices on Saturday.

“If someone has thought of intimidating us, of frightening us, of making us shut up, they must know that … they don’t scare us,” CGIL head Maurizio Landini said in a translated statement, according to ANSA.

At least 12 people were arrested after the demonstrations, officials told ANSA. About 38 police officers suffered what appear to be mostly minor injuries, they said, although one officer suffered broken ribs.

Opponents of the Green Pass say it tramples on freedoms and is an indirect way of forcing vaccinations on people. Elsewhere, critics of vaccine passports have said that such systems would create a segregated, two-tiered society of the vaccinated and unvaccinated.

Gavin Newsom Signs Law Requiring ‘Gender Neutral’ Aisles in Toy Stores

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a host of bills into law on Friday, including AB 1084, which requires “gender neutral retail departments” in toy stores, so that shoppers will not be encouraged some toys for girls and others for boys.

The bill, authored by Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Campbell), declares that differences in products that are marketed to girls or boys are “unjustified,” and that it is “inappropriate” to imply they should be used by one gender instead of another.

As such, the bill provides:

(a) A retail department store that offers childcare items or toys for sale shall maintain a gender neutral section or area, to be labeled at the discretion of the retailer, in which a reasonable selection of the items and toys for children that it sells shall be displayed, regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys.

(b) This section shall apply only to retail department stores that are physically located in California that have a total of 500 or more employees across all California retail department store locations. This section shall not apply to retail department stores that are physically located outside California.

(c) Beginning on January 1, 2024, a retail department store that fails to comply with this section is liable for a civil penalty, not to exceed two hundred fifty dollars ($250) for a first violation or five hundred dollars ($500) for a subsequent violation, which may be assessed and recovered in a civil action brought in the name of the people of the State of California by the Attorney General, or a district attorney or city attorney, in any court of competent jurisdiction. If the Attorney General, district attorney, or city attorney prevails in an action under this subdivision, the court shall award to the Attorney General, district attorney, or city attorney reasonable attorney’s fees and costs.

Stores can still maintain boys’ and girls’ sections, as long as they create one “gender neutral” area, though the legislation is unclear whether retailers could be punished for selling the same toys in gendered and gender neutral sections of the store.

A Murder, A Suicide: Connecting More Dots in the Culture of Corruption (Updated)

Sheriff Elect Derwin Brown

The 2000 election for Sheriff of Dekalb County was bitter and difficult. It pitted incumbent Sheriff Sidney Dorsey against policeman Derwin Brown. Brown ran on a platform of cleaning up the corruption in the Sheriff's department. Many times the fingers of corruption were pointed directly at Dorsey himself. Dekalb County Sheriff's Department had a long history of corruption and Dorsey himself was no stranger to criminality.

Dorsey became the county's first black sheriff four years ago despite publicity about his arrests for domestic abuse and a manslaughter charge he once faced.

Reports also surfaced that Dorsey assigned inmates to work on houses of supporters of his wife, an Atlanta city councilwoman.

Other reports accused him of allowing deputies to work for his security company while on the clock. And a female deputy filed a lawsuit saying that she was denied a promotion because she ended an affair with Dorsey.

Brown's campaign message resonated and the voters voted him in overwhelmingly with him winning roughly two to one. Brown would never get a chance to fulfill any of his campaign promises. On December 15th, two days before he was to be sworn in, he was gunned down in his drive way.

Within months several people within the Sheriff's department or at least with strong ties to it were arrested. Those people included Paul Skyers, Devon Edwards, Patrick Cuffy (ultimately fingered as the shooter) and Melvin Walker. The man that authorities finally believed to be the ringleader and ultimately the person that gave the order was none other than the Sheriff at the time of the murder at least Sidney Dorsey.

Everyone eventually flipped on Dorsey and spent minimal or no time in jail. Most of their whereabouts are currently unknown, and Dorsey was ultimately convicted about five years later. He serves a sentence of 25 years.

Like with much of the corruption around it, this case leaves many more questions than answers. If a sheriff and several of his deputies and their contacts killed the incoming sheriff, then to me at least, that is the culture of corruption at its worst. Why then did the next Sheriff Thomas Brown (no relation) not clean house as Derwin Brown promised. (Thomas Brown, who was the former public safety officer of Dekalb County, was then selected by then Governor Roy Barnes to be the interim Sheriff)

Fellow candidates for sheriff and confidantes of Derwin Brown blasted the sheriff when he declined to fire all of those targeted for termination by the murdered sheriff-elect, or to hire those previously promised jobs. Although he has dismissed some personnel, Sheriff Brown has been criticized, both before and after the special election, for not fully embracing those changes.

When he came aboard, said Brown, the department was uneasy; he thinks his decisions have helped calm things.

"There may have been some concerns when I came in," said Brown. "I made very few staff changes. There were a few personnel changes we did let some people go but the heart and soul of the people who built this facility are still here."

Whatever doubts anyone had that the Dekalb County Sheriff's Department had a systemic culture of corruption were tragically erased when its Sheriff elect was gunned down in a conspiracy involving several members of the department itself, including the top person. If ever there was a reason for wholesale house cleaning it was this tragic event. Yet, that didn't happen.

There was other things that raised my eyebrows. There were rumors of a hitlist. In fact, the prosecutor on the case J. Tom Morgan wore a bullet proof vest for safety. I was told that reporter (and current candidate for U.S. Senate) Dale Cardwell had a member of the sheriff's department sleeping in his house for a month because they felt he was a target. The motive for the shooting was said to be revenge. If there was a hitlist and other targets that wouldn't make sense. Was Dorsey really the ringleader or was this murder really the work of someone and something much bigger? Only the powers that be know that answer.

Reduce Population to Save the Planet, Says Former UK Finance Chief

Britain and other Western nations should welcome declining populations and ageing demographics as it will help them meet climate change goals, the former chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) has argued.

In a report from Population Matters entitled Smaller Families and Ageing Populations, Lord Adair Turner, the chairman of the UK Energy Transitions Commission and former head of the FSA, argued that declining native populations will enhance prosperity.

“The biggest reason to welcome this demographic shift is that it results from the free choice of empowered people, and in particular women,” Lord Adair wrote.

“But ceasing endless population growth will also reduce humanity’s future press on the natural environment, ease the challenge of adequate housing provision, and make it easier to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while supporting prosperity growth in developing countries.”

The report said that Britain could cut carbon emissions by approximately 38 million tonnes by 2035 if it experiences a similar decline in population to Japan, which is expected to see a drop of 9.6 per cent in population from 125m to 113.1m people by 2035.

In contrast, the United Kingdom is expected to see an increase in the population of 5.2 per cent over the same time period to 71.1 million people, driven in large part by mass migration.

Aside from the supposed benefits of falls in carbon emissions, a drop in population would also cut the need for the construction of 4 million new homes in Britain, saving some 435,000 acres of land from developers.

The green movement has long hailed population control as a means of saving the world from the so-called climate crisis. In a notable example, the founder of CNN, Ted Turner, called for a Chinese-style one-child policy in order to save the planet from climate change in 2010.

Turner — himself a father of five — also suggested that “fertility rights” could be sold in order to incentivise poor people not to have children by profiting from the sale of their child credit to wealthier people.

Other prominent leftist figures in the West, including NY Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. have all suggested that they may have fewer children than they would have otherwise if not for climate change.

Virginia gubernatorial candidate and former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Critical Race Theory was a “dog whistle” made up by former President Donald Trump to divide Americans.

In a video from the last debate with his Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin, McAuliffe said, “I’m not going to have parents take their kids out of schools. I don’t think parents should be telling teachers what they should teach.”

Anchor Dana Bash said, “The context of that would have allowed parents to ban sexually explicit books in schools.”

McAuliffe said, “First of all, ban any book.”

Bash said, “Let me finish my question. The question is the fact that you are getting pummeled by Republicans who say it shows that you don’t think parents should have a say in their children’s education. So my question is, do you think parents should have a say in their children’s education?”

McAuliffe said, “First of all, they do. They get to elect school boards, and if they don’t like some rules and they get rid of them.”

Bash said, “When you say parents should have a say, is that say strictly how they vote on the school board?”

McAuliffe said, “Clearly they have a say to be involved in the school boards that they pick and so forth, but they want to know are their children getting a world-class education. I did that last time I was governor. Let’s be clear, in Virginia. We’re fourth in the country on k-12. We’re number one in the country on higher ed. We have a great education system. The issue is, and he’s trying to do a back door deal on Trump, he talks about a Critical Race Theory. I have to be honest with you that’s a dog whistle. We don’t teach critical race theory in Virginia. He brings up this Donald Trump/DeVos thing on education. I hate to see people divided. I got us out of the worse economic chaos before. I’ll do it again with COVID, and I’ll do it in a bipartisan way.”

He added, “I really hate to see the division, the hatred. We’re putting these children in this horrible position. Let’s just be clear. We don’t teach Critical Race Theory. This is made-up. This is a Trump/Betsy DeVos/Glenn Youngkin plan to divide people. It really bothers me. I try to unite people. I want to give every child regardless of who you love, the color of your skin, and I’m going to build the greatest election system, but Glenn Youngkin dividing the system, dog whistles, but he will take money from public schools and put them in private and 43,000 teachers will be cut.”

There was some media that wondered if Dorsey really was the ringleader. His family doesn't believe that all the perpetraters have been caught. To this day, his death and the events surrounding it continue to have more questions than answers. Much like most of the corruption in and around Dekalb County, whether its Grady Hospital, Emory University, or the Sheriff's Department, it always seems as though investigations only go so far before somehow, some way they end.

On August 26th, 2004, Charles Hicks, Dekalb County Attorney was found dead. The death of Charles Hicks was eventually ruled a suicide however I believe that this was another case in which there are more questions than answers. Ron Marshall, head of the Grady Coalition, was an acquaintance of Hicks. He told me that on many occasions he told him that he (Hicks) was concerned about all of the corruption that he was procuring. The first officer on the scene was one Donald Frank, a wily character that Marshall says he would run into again (and one I will get back to in a minute). The most damning piece of evidence was that the gun was found laying next to Hicks' right hand. This seems peculiar since Hicks was in fact left handed.

If Hicks was in the middle of a culture of corruption, and he wanted to get out, it would stand to reason that the powers that be would want him eliminated. It also stands to reason that the powers to be would have enough power to then cover up this same murder and turn it into a suicide. Of course, that is all mere speculation. Let's not speculate but rather look for patterns.

The Sheriff's Department had a culture of corruption that went back decades. Several of its sheriffs wound up on the wrong end of the jail cell.

Former Sheriff Pat Jarvis last year was sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined $40,000 for fraud. Ray Bonner, a sheriff in the mid-1970s, pleaded self-defense and was acquitted in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in his front yard. And Lamar Martin, the sheriff in the late 1960s and early '70s, was convicted of bribery.

Of course after that, the next sheriff in line went in for murder.

While this was going on at the Sheriff's Department State Senator Charles Walker was fleecing Grady Hospital for millions of dollars. The State Senator committed so much crime that by the time he was done he was charged with 137 felonies and ultimately convicted on all but ten. Of course, he flipped on NO ONE. No one else was charged and he got ten years, or less than a month for each felony conviction. Then, we have the mysterious death Charles Hicks.

Who is running Dekalb County? That would be Vernon Jones. Jones is no stranger to trouble. His name has wound up on the police blotter roughly six times. It started in the mid eighties and the last known incident was this past December. The charges range from assault to rape. He's never been convicted of any of these crimes mind you. He's had more than a few questionable land deals including a prime piece of property (that he apparently bought for 500k in cash. Not bad for someone that makes a 100k per year) right next to a mall that he authorized the building of.

In fact, I only need to go to the same article where my research on Hicks began to find all sorts of malfeasance by Jones.

Jones' re-election campaign took its first hit, as one of his opponents, state Rep. Teresa Greene-Johnson, tried unsuccessfully to get a court protection order against him. Greene-Johnson alleged that Jones berated and threatened her on a campaign stop

…Within days of each other, Jones lost two political allies. Commissioner Lou Walker died from injuries sustained in a car accident and Jones' deputy chief of staff, Lance Robertson, was arrested and charged with the false imprisonment of a 19-year-old woman after a night of drinking at the W Hotel in Dunwoody.

It was revealed that Robertson had a criminal past, including a shoplifting conviction, that county officials did not investigate before Jones hired him. Robertson, who has been suspended without pay, denies any wrongdoing in the W Hotel incident.Also in August, a federal lawsuit accused Jones and other county officials of discriminating against white employees. County officials denied the allegations.

That article merely describes a few months in 2004.

By 2006, Ron Marshall was challenging Jones for Dekalb County CEO. Jones introduced Marshall to hardball politics, Dekalb County style. Marshall told me that he was constantly followed throughout the campaign. There was background checks done on him, and he and his wife mysteriously wound up on the Homeland Security Terror Watch List. Only the powers that be know how that happened, however the director of Homeland Security for Dekalb County by this point just happened to be Donald Franks (yes the exact same one that also happened to be the first police officer on the scene of the Hicks death).

There is a Latin phrase, Res Ipsa Loquitor, and it means the facts speak for themselves. There is no question that Vernon Jones is part of the problem. Between the murder of a Sheriff elect, the fleecing of Grady Hospital, the harrassment of a candidate, and many other scandals in between, Res Ipsa Loquitor. Nothing has changed within the Sheriff's Department that occupies the County he is CEO of. Grady is now in desperate need of an infusion of cash or they will cease to exist, so nothing has changed there either. The facts speak for themselves: either he was in on it, he was too incompetent or too scared to stop it, he was asleep at the wheel, or something else. It ultimately matters not because there is no excuse for that much corruption to go on on his watch, Res Ipsa Loquitor.

UPDATE: On August 5th 2008, Vernon Jones lost a run off election to Jim Martin. Ironically, though not coincidentally, Dale Cardwell, took third in the original Democratic primary. (in Georgia rules, a majority is required to win and so that's what caused the run off) His future political plans are still undetermined at this moment. Jones was then replaced as CEO of Dekalb County by Burrell Ellis.

Since losing the election, Jones has kept a relative low profile. He surfaced in Albany, Ga. to speak to a group of law enforcement officers. This fueled rumors that he might runfor mayor of Albany in 2012 though that appears to be a step back for Jones. I don't expect him to stay in private life for too long.

Choose healing over division. Remove Syracuse’s Columbus statue

The people and ideas a community celebrates in its public spaces reflect our values, our aspirations and our times. Our times demand an honest reappraisal of the statue of Christopher Columbus in one of Syracuse’s most prominent public squares — one that leads us to support Mayor Ben Walsh’s intention to replace it with a symbol that will unify the community instead of dividing it.

The Columbus statue was raised in 1934 by Syracuse’s Italian American residents as a monument to their culture and civic belonging. At the time, popular history’s view of Columbus was of a heroic explorer who “discovered” the New World and brought Christianity to the Western Hemisphere.

Since then, our understanding of Columbus has expanded and evolved to include the perspectives of the people on the receiving end of his conquest: the Indigenous peoples who were here for millennia, and who were nearly wiped out in the centuries of colonization that followed. They are represented on the statue literally under the feet of Columbus and on their knees in subservience.

Today’s supporters of keeping the statue wish to recast Columbus as a monument to their ancestors’ perseverance in the face of discrimination against immigrants in this city. That selective view of history is blind to the pain of the Onondaga Nation people on whose ancestral land it sits. To them, Columbus is a symbol of genocide, oppression, subjugation, theft and cultural erasure.

In spite of everything, the Onondaga are still here. They want the statue to go — and have for decades. Finally, they have been heard.

Walsh convened a community dialogue on the monument’s future in 2018. It produced diametrically opposed interpretations of history and a menu of options for the future of Columbus Circle. Calls for the mayor to act grew louder in the summer of 2020, as the nation reckoned with its racist past after the murder of George Floyd. Walsh decided to remove the monument and remake the circle into a Heritage Park that celebrates the multicultural fabric of today’s Syracuse, including Italian Americans.

We believe the mayor is within his rights to do so. The city owns the monument and can do with it what it pleases. It renamed the circle once and can do so again. More importantly, just as the city’s leaders in 1934 chose to honor Columbus, its leaders today can choose a different person or symbol to honor.

Editorial boards can change their minds, too. Our predecessors in 1934 hailed the monument as “a treasured and permanent memorial of Columbus’ greatness and glory” — an opinion we do not hold in 2021.

The statue’s supporters are suing to prevent its removal. We regret they did not take the path of the Italian American community in Buffalo, which voluntarily took down its statue of Columbus in recognition of its divisiveness “and to provide a positive example of peaceful change.” That it has become an issue in the Syracuse mayoral campaign trivializes the more pressing issues facing the city: violence, poverty and economic inequality.

Removing statues or changing the names of public places often raises the charge that we are “erasing” history. Monuments are not history; they are an interpretation of history at a moment in time. History’s view of Columbus has become fuller,

Jonathan and Diana Toebbe, both of Annapolis, Maryland, were arrested in Jefferson County, West Virginia, by the FBI and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) on Saturday, Oct. 9.

For almost a year, Jonathan Toebbe, 42, aided by his wife, Diana, 45, sold information known as Restricted Data concerning the design of nuclear-powered warships to a person they believed was a representative of a foreign power. In actuality, that person was an undercover FBI agent. The Toebbes have been charged in a criminal complaint alleging violations of the Atomic Energy Act.

“The complaint charges a plot to transmit information relating to the design of our nuclear submarines to a foreign nation,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The work of the FBI, Department of Justice prosecutors, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Department of Energy was critical in thwarting the plot charged in the complaint and taking this first step in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

Jonathan Toebbe is an employee of the Department of the Navy who served as a nuclear engineer and was assigned to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, also known as Naval Reactors. He held an active national security clearance through the U.S. Department of Defense, giving him access to Restricted Data. Toebbe worked with and had access to information concerning naval nuclear propulsion including information related to military sensitive design elements, operating parameters and performance characteristics of the reactors for nuclear powered warships.
