(Reddit Summary)

-Professor Turley is a very respected liberal law professor and longtime civil libertarian. Has been critical of both parties over the years.

-Turley says the use of John Huber gives the IG the prosecutor he needs to bring charges and seek indictments. (No need to go through RR which is critical)

-Huber is conducting a full-fledged criminal investigation into all the matters Republicans are calling for a special counsel to investigate.

-Huber has been investigating these possible crimes for five months (Now seven), since November 2017.

-By giving the IG a prosecutor they can now go after the deep state without looking like a political witch hunt. This is critical.

-Sessions informed Congress in his letter that all the matters recommended for investigation by Goodlatte, Gowdy, and Grassley are “fully within the scope of [Huber’s] existing mandate.” He also informed the chairmen that Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is working with Huber, has a staff of 470 investigators, giving Huber access to enormous investigative firepower that far exceeds the staff of any special counsel. (Who needs a SC with that type of manpower?)

-The inspector general’s jurisdiction to conduct civil and criminal investigations includes “actions taken by former employees after they have left government service.” Then Huber can act on any of those matters.

-This is HUGE A Grand Jury can be empaneled anywhere, in any deep red state, away from D.C. (This is very important and why Trump needed to appoint as many Judges as possible)

-Huber and Horowitz can accomplish everything a SC can do.

-If Sessions feels that charges should have been made that weren't, he can still appoint a SC to make that happen.

-Huber is a lawyer from deep red Utah, not the D.C. swamp.

-“If a special counsel were appointed, there would be a great deal of delay,” Turley stated, versus the team of Huber and Horowitz, who are already five months into this investigation. (It's too late to even appoint a SC. Charges can be filed before midterms.)

-From /u/ClardicFug - Huber and Horowitz were both appointed to their positions by the Obama administration. This helps optics a lot. Pretty much decimates the "Trumped rigged the investigation" argument that's sure to be made.

New Jersey School District Sued for Racism Against White Students

 

A New Jersey parent has filed a federal lawsuit against a New Jersey school district alleging racism against white students, particularly son.

 

The lawsuit, filed by someone identified only as B.L., alleges that the Mountain Lakes school district has created a hostile school environment since June 6, 2020 — around the beginning of the Black Lives Matter riots over the death of George Floyd.

 

According to a report from NorthJersey.com, the complaint says that the school district has engaged in “a campaign of open racial discrimination” and “forced a racial political ideology” on students with their “ill-named ‘anti-racist’ agenda.”

 

“The suit demands that the district not be allowed to apply or receive federal funds until it stops the accused ‘racially discriminatory practices’ as well as stops supporting programs claiming white privilege and systemic injustices,” the report explains.

 

The parent says that the teachings violate her son, and other white students’ right not to be discriminated against based on their race.

 

Following the death of Floyd, the lawsuit says that former Mountain Lakes High School Principal Frank Sanchez emailed parents a pamphlet titled “Seeking Justice from Reflection to Action” and condemned racism. Within the pamphlet, the school discussed how there is “institutional racism” within the district.

 

The parent alleges that the principal also sent students a video that he described as a “call to arms” against “white privilege.”

 

The report explains that the parent argues that assertion of white privilege “constitutes illegal indoctrination of racist tropes which are more suitable for a totalitarian ‘re-education camp’ than for a New Jersey public school.”

 

Ronald A, Berutti, the attorney representing B.L. released a statement on behalf of his client, which read as follows:

 

“For two years, I have been in dialogue with the Mountain Lakes School Distrct about a basic discrimination matter. I believe the Mountain Lakes School District was influenced by prevailing national narrative and local social groups to advance specific messaging that is not fair and equal to all students. I am concerned that the school district works with selected groups in private meetings and via email without transparency and input from all parents in a public forum.”

 

“Even in times of national turmoil, the school district must adhere to district policy and follow state and federal laws. It is unfortunate that we live in a time when holding our public institutions accountable is met in our community – and our country – by intimidation and personal attacks. My intent is not political and not intended to start a movement. It is simply for our schools to follow policy and law and stop discriminatory practices.”

 

“My family has unfortunately been subject to harsh judgement, name calling and intimidation. We are humbled and appreciative of the support of so many in our town and throughout the state who have raised similar questions in their school districts but are afraid to speak up for fear of retribution. Feds search home of former DOJ official Trump sought to install as AG: reports

 

Federal law enforcement this week searched the home of Jeffrey Clark, the former Department of Justice (DOJ) official accused of trying to use the agency to pursue former President Trump’s election fraud allegations, multiple news outlets reported Thursday.

 

According to The New York Times, Clark’s suburban Virginia home was searched on Wednesday, a day before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack was set to hear from former DOJ officials about the internal strife in the Trump administration following the 2020 election.

 

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in D.C. did not immediately respond when asked for comment on the reports.

 

Clark was central to Trump’s pressure campaign at the DOJ and Trump even weighed installing him as attorney general, according to previously released material.

 

The mid-level attorney, who specialized in environmental law and was acting head of the department’s civil division at the time, was one of Trump’s top advocates for forwarding election fraud claims. He pushed the DOJ to send a letter to Georgia asking it to hold off on certifying its election results so the Justice Department could announce an investigation into voter fraud there.

 

That pressure campaign came to a head at a Jan. 3, 2021, meeting in which Trump told his DOJ leadership he was weighing ousting them in favor of Clark, who had for days been pushing Trump allies’ claims about voter fraud.

 

Then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and his deputy, Richard Donoghue, were surprised to get an email from Clark prior to their White House meeting promoting “various theories that seemed to be derived from the internet,” according to Donoghue.

 

That included a theory that the Chinese government may have hacked into Dominion voting machines through a smart thermostat. He followed with a request for an intelligence community briefing on the matter along with the request to send the letter to Georgia elections officials.

This means all Agencies that received the authority of congress, such as the SEC did not (remember 5th circuit said SEC was an unconstitutional agencies and could not fine as it violates the constitution), that means the administrative state created by all these agencies, could be & should be in the chopping block. SEC has no right to fine a company, so FDA and CDC can certainly be included. Please God give the court the power and wisdom to destroy them all.

 

This btw isone of Gorsuch’s pet pieves, he doesnt like the administative state because the court can only interpret the laws congress made for them, they cannot change the definition of the law. This came up in his hearings.

 

He said, “if you dont like the courts rulings, change the law”! But congress can not really transfer their powers.

 

OSHA should be on the list too along with many others, such as the IRS. If theSEC is not empowered to fine(only one of the three branches of government can) the IRS should not have that weapon either.

"The daughter of a slain NYPD cop who was left to raise her younger siblings has been stuck in legal hell for five years over access to her mom’s pension — and time is running out.

 

Genesis Villella was forced to step in as primary caregiver when her mom Miosotis Familia was killed execution-style while working in the Bronx in 2017.

 

And a little-known legal loophole has only exacerbated her grief. Children of single-parent cops who die in the line of duty aren’t entitled to their parents’ pension for life — unlike spouses and parents of slain cops.

 

“Since I’m raising my brother and sister, my mother’s dependents, as their mother — and I will be their mother for the rest of their life — I think we should get the pension for life the same way every other family of a police officer who is killed in the line of duty,” Villella, now 25, told The Post last week.

 

Twins Peter and Delilah Vega, 17, can only collect their mom’s pension until age 23 — and under strict caveats. But even now, they must jump through legal hurdles in order to get the benefit, a process that Villella called “torture” and involves having to first seek approval from the Bronx Surrogate’s Court.

“Besides the daily grief of losing my best friend, my hero, I also have to worry if we will have money to pay the bills in a few years,” Villella said through tears.

 

“The financial grief is an added stress. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in five years.”

 

Familia, a 12-year NYPD veteran, was sitting in a police car on July 5, 2017, when a deranged gunman came out of nowhere, walked up to the car and shot the unsuspecting cop in the head on East 183rd Street near Morris Avenue.

 

The killer, Alexander Bonds, was eventually gunned down by police.

 

Familia, 48, who was posthumously promoted to detective, had no beneficiaries for her pension benefits — and only three dependents, her then-20-year-old daughter and her twin children, who were only 12 at the time.

 

Villella was forced to quit school to make ends meet and raise her younger siblings — while learning how to navigate the court process to get her mom’s pension.

 

“It took me four years to finally get my mother’s check deposited directly,” Villella said. “Previously, I had to take the check to the court where it was Xeroxed, and then I had to deposit it into a bank that the judge picked."

Mike Pompeo has been summoned by a Spanish court to testify over claims the US plotted to assassinate Julian Assange.

 

Judge Santiago Pedraz, of Spain's National Court, is leading an investigation into whether Spanish security firm UC Global spied on Mr Assange while providing security for the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where the Australian resided between 2012 and 2019.

 

A spokesman for Spain's National Court told The Telegraph that Judge Pedraz had sent a request to US authorities to call the former US secretary of state as a witness.

 

"There has been no reply as yet," the spokesman added.

 

The alleged plot was first revealed by Yahoo News last November. The outlet reported that senior CIA and Trump administration officials discussed the possibility of kidnapping or killing Mr Assange after being angered by WikiLeaks' 2017 publication of CIA hacking tools.

 

Discussions took place at the "highest levels" of the Trump administration, according to the report.

 

Mr Pompeo was the director of the CIA under Donald Trump from 2017 to 2018, when the Republican president appointed him as secretary of state.

 

Lawyers representing Mr Assange in Spain, including the former judge Baltasar Garzón, allege that the US "orchestrated" the espionage effort against the activist, with UC Global placing microphones and cameras in the embassy to spy on his private conversations and meetings.

 

Mr Assange is set to appeal the decision taken last week by Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, to extradite him to the US, where he faces espionage charges and a potential 175-year jail sentence.

 

‘Shift’ in Australian government handling of case

 

The wife of Mr Assange believes there has been a noticeable "shift" in the Australian government's handling of her husband's case since the country elected a Labor leader last month.

 

Stella Assange, who shares two children with Mr Assange, said Australia "can and should be speaking to its closest ally to bring this matter to a close", calling the case an "aberration" that criminalises journalism.

 

However, Anthony Albanese, the Australian Prime Minister, on Monday rejected calls from Mr Assange's supporters for him to publicly demand the US drop its prosecution of the WikiLeaks founder, who is an Australian citizen.

 

Mark Dreyfus, the Attorney General and Foreign Minister Penny Wong responded to the British government's decision by saying Assange's "case has dragged on for too long and … should be brought to a close."

 

They said they would continue to express that view to the UK and US governments, but their joint statement fell short of calling for the United States to drop the case.

Mark Zuckerberg’s longtime deputy Sheryl Sandberg said Wednesday that she’s quitting her job as Meta’s chief operating officer.

 

Sandberg, who’s worth an estimated $1.6 billionaccording to Forbes, said in a surprise Facebook post that she will step down in the fall and remain a member of the company’s board of directors.

 

“When I took this job in 2008, I hoped I would be in this role for five years,” Sandberg said. “Fourteen years later, it is time for me to write the next chapter of my life.”

 

The news comes six weeks after the Wall Street Journal reported that Sandberg had twice pressured the Daily Mail to kill potentially damaging stories about her then-boyfriend Bobby Kotick.

 

According to the Journal, Kotick told associates that Sandberg warned the Daily Mail that any article they published regarding the situation could hurt the outlet’s relationship with Facebook – whose platform is a considerable source of traffic and revenue for countless media outlets.

Meta, which is reportedly probing the allegations against Sandberg, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on her resignation.

 

Sandberg is also the author of “Lean In,” a motivational book about women in the workplace. She worked at Google prior to joining Facebook.

Utah Police Launch Investigation Into Alleged ‘Ritualistic’ Child Sex Abuse, County Attorney Demands Sheriff Resign

 

The Utah County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a series of reports alleging “ritualistic child sexual abuse” and a sex trafficking ring perpetrated by high-profile individuals in the state for over two decades.

 

The department announced last week that it launched the investigation last April after speaking to victims from multiple counties and is urging the public to provide tips and encourage victims with knowledge of such crimes to step forward to receive assistance and aid.

 

“In April of 2021, an investigation began into ritualistic child sexual abuse and child sex trafficking that occurred in Utah County,” the department said in a press release. “The ensuing investigation discovered that other victims had previously reported similar forms of ritualistic sexual abuse and trafficking that occurred in Utah County, Juab County and Sanpete County during the time between 1990 and 2010. Portions of these allegations were confirmed.”

 

“These allegations are being investigated by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with other local and federal agencies,” the Utah Sheriff’s Department continued. “We are pleading with the public and encourage victims or individuals with knowledge of these crimes to contact the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit so that they can be offered all the assistance possible. We understand that there are individuals who have concerns for their safety and/or well-being who have been silenced. We need your help.”

Statins Increase Diabetes Risk by 38%

 

According to a 2020 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,1 34.1 million U.S. adults had diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes in 2018. There were slightly more men than women, and more white, non-Hispanic people with diabetes than Black, Asian or Hispanic people combined.

However, researchers have repeatedly failed to find evidence that high cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

 

As I have discussed in many previous articles, three factors have a far greater influence on your cardiovascular disease risk and, to some degree, are interrelated. These are insulin resistance,4 chronic inflammation5 and high iron levels.6 Unfortunately, these primary contributors are rarely the focus of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment in conventional medicine.

 

Instead, statins, also called cholesterol-lowering drugs, are the go-to defense in Western medicine, which led to the drug once holding the infamous title of the most profitable drug. Dr. Malcolm Kendrick7 is a general practitioner in Cheshire, England, and the author of three books, including “A Statin Nation: Damaging Millions in a Brave New Post-Health World.” He estimates that the pharmaceutical industry has grossed more than $1 trillion from statins.

 

Statins Increase Risk of Diabetes by 38%

 

A team at Erasmus University Medical Center in The Netherlands published the study found in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.8 The researchers wrote that several epidemiological studies had shown an association between statins and diabetes, but this team sought to analyze the associated glycemic traits with Type 2 diabetes.

 

They included 9,535 people in the Rotterdam Study who did not have diabetes at the start of the study. They followed the participants for 15 years and found those who used statin medications had a higher concentration of serum fasting insulin and insulin resistance as compared to those who had never used a statin.

The chief executive of top German asset manager DWS said Wednesday he will step down next week, a day after raids by prosecutors over allegations that the company misled investors about “green” investments.

Americans hoping to take advantage of the greenback’s historic strength with a vacation abroad should consider booking sooner rather than later. After a stunning rally over the past year, the dollar’s stint at multi-decade highs may finally have come to an end.

 

That is, if a handful of Wall Street strategists are to be believed.

 

One of them, UBS, told clients Wednesday that “the dollar’s best days may be behind us.”

 

Back in late April, the U.S. dollar reached its strongest level against the euro since late 2002, peaking at 1.05 euros to the dollar EURUSD, 0.38%, very near “parity” or the level at which one euro would be worth one dollar. Since then, the greenback has softened a bit. Still, one popular gauge of the greenback’s strength against its main rivals — the ICE U.S. dollar index — has gained more than 13% DXY, -0.26% over the past year and more than 6% year to date.

 

These are massive moves for currency markets, where daily moves are typically measured in basis points, or fractions of a percentage point. Indeed, volatility in the G-10 currency space has been notably elevated since the start of the year, nearing 11 in late May, while remaining above the 10.5 threshold.

He noted that the FBI can investigate these matters, “but they can’t convene a grand jury. They can’t file charges.”

 

“The prosecutors, the Justice Department has to do that,” he explained. “Now, as I understand it, Preet Bharara, the Manhattan prosecutor, has gotten ahold of some of this. From what I hear, he’s a stand-up guy, and hopefully he does the right thing.”

 

Marlow agreed that Bharara’s “sterling reputation” as a determined prosecutor was “bad news for the Clintons.”

Google ‘infiltrated by religious cult,’ ex-employee claims in lawsuit

 

Google has been accused of employing a large number of people belonging to an unusual religious group in California.

 

The Fellowship of Friends is a group that believes most of us are living in a state of “waking sleep.”

 

According to The New York Times, the Fellowship of Friends is a “cult-like religious sect” that’s infiltrated Google.

 

The group has reportedly gained a powerful position at the tech giant and has started to hire more members of the “cult-like sect”.

 

The New York Times says the takeover has been happening for years.

 

A former employee is now said to be suing over the situation.

 

Former Google employee Kevin Lloyd told the NYT: “Once you become aware of this, you become responsible.”

 

That’s why Lloyd is putting a legal case against Google.

 

He’s using a lawyer that won $6.5 million for a client who claimed she hadn’t been promoted because she wasn’t a member of the Fellowship of Friends.

 

It’s unclear how many Google employees are actually members of the Fellowship.

 

The group is also known as Living Presence and the Fourth Way School.

 

It has faced multiple damning accusations in the past and the new lawsuit accuses it of having a history of sex trafficking.

 

The Fellowship was founded by Robert Earl Burton in 1970.

 

He predicted that civilization is doomed and his group aims to form a new civilization after the one we know now is over.

 

We reached out to Google for comment and a spokesperson told us: “We have long-standing employee and supplier policies in place to prevent discrimination and conflicts of interest, and we take those seriously.

 

“It’s against the law to ask for the religious affiliations of those who work for us or for our suppliers, but we’ll of course thoroughly look into these allegations for any irregularities or improper contracting practices.

 

“If we find evidence of policy violations, we will take action.

 

“We investigated the concerns Mr. Lloyd raised in his lawsuit, and confirmed that his vendor assignment ended due to well-documented performance issues.”

Exclusive: Former White House Staffer Confirms Jan. 6 Committee Lied About DOJ Attorney

 

This isn’t about truth, but about making it impossible for conservatives to successfully enter and leave government.’

 

Over the weekend, former Department of Justice lawyer Ken Klukowski called on the Jan. 6 Committee to release the full transcript of his deposition testimony to correct the lies they told about him to the American public. Now The Federalist has exclusively obtained a statement from a former White House staffer confirming Klukowski’s claims.

 

Last Thursday, the Jan. 6, 2021 show trial continued, with the Democrat-stacked committee presenting testimony concerning a draft letter Jeff Clark, a former assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice, proposed sending to the Georgia legislature.

 

That draft letter, dated December 28, 2020, stated the Department of Justice was investigating the 2020 election and recommended the Georgia legislature convene a special session to “evaluate the irregularities in the 2020 election including violations of Georgia election law,” and “determine whether those violations show which candidate for President won the most legal votes in the November 3 election.” The draft letter then suggested the General Assembly could appoint an alternative set of electors based on its findings.

 

The draft letter’s signature line included spaces for Clark, Acting Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen, and Acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue. But when Clark pitched the idea of sending the letter to Georgia officials, Rosen and Donoghue rejected the idea out of hand, because it was “not the department’s role to suggest or dictate to state legislatures how they should select their electors,” and “for the department to insert itself into the political process this way,” Donoghue told the committee, “may very well have spiraled us into a constitutional crisis.”

 

Donoghue was blunter with Clark in person, with Donoghue testifying he told Clark, “What you are doing is nothing less than the United States Justice Department meddling in the outcome of a presidential election.”

 

While last Thursday’s hearing by the Jan. 6 Committee centered on Clark and his efforts to have the letter sent to the Georgia legislature, the committee connected another DOJ attorney to Clark’s efforts, Klukowski—and did so by blatantly lying to the American public.

 

The Jan. 6 Committee Is Lying

 

Klukowski called out the Jan. 6 Committee’s fraud over the weekend in a public statement that began: “The January 6 Committee falsely accused me on Thursday of being a go-between in a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. That accusation is false both in its broad outlines and its details. Since the Committee first contacted me, I have cooperated without hesitation, provided it with hundreds of documents, and sat for many hours of recorded depositions. The information produced from those efforts fully contradicts the Committee’s statements regarding my actions, yet the Committee has chosen to keep such information to itself rather than share it with the public.”

 

The former DOJ lawyer then detailed in his public statement four false accusations levied against him by the Jan.6 Committee. First, Klukowski exposed Rep. Liz Cheney’s false portrayal of him as being sent by John Eastman to work under Clark. While Cheney fraudulently told the country that Klukowski “was specifically assigned to work under Jeff Clark,” Klukowski provided the committee documents establishing that his transfer to “the Civil Division of the DOJ was in the works since July 2020, long before Jeff Clark was the acting head of that Division.”

 

In an interview with The Federalist over the weekend, Klukowski stressed that during questioning by the Jan. 6 Committee—which exceeded more than 12 total hours—he made clear that he had been working on the transfer since mid-summer, hoping to move to the DOJ civil division to obtain more litigation experience, and that the transfer had been preliminarily approved in September 2020. Klukowski added that he also provided the committee detailed information that would allow them to confirm his testimony.

 

“I told the committee that I spoke with Camellia Delaplane, then a DOJ liaison to the White House who handled personnel placement, and provided the House Committee the date, September 10, 2020,” Klukowski told The Federalist. “I also suggested the committee review our email exchanges confirming my testimony, since they clearly had access to that information.”….

The No. 3 House Republican says Democrats are so obsessed with using the Jan. 6 investigation to settle scores with former President Donald Trump that they are "missing a huge chance" to address the crime, inflation, drug scourge and supply chain shortages that most trouble Americans.

 

"I think this is theDemocrats, you know, really desperate attempt to try to change the narrative away from all these crises that the American peopleknow their policies have created, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N..Y, told the Just the News, Not Noise television show on Friday night.

 

Stefanik, the House Republican Conference chairwoman, said the Democrats' first prime-time hearing on the Jan. 6 riots Thursday night was an "abject failure" and a "partisan political circus" that signaled to America they'd rather obsess over Trump than tackle the country's most pressing needs like soaring gas and food prices and the fentanyl crisis that is the single leading cause of death of adults between 18 and 45.

 

"They're missing a huge chance," she said in a wide-ranging interview. "Wouldn't that be nice to have a primetime hearing on any of those crises? That's what the American people are yearning for. …. That's how out of touch Democrats are with what's actually happening across this country."

 

Stefanik said Republicans won't let the Jan. 6 hearings distract them from staying focused on the issues of the present, saying they have created a comprehensive agenda for the fall election modeled after Newt Gingrich's famous 1994 Contract with America.

 

"You will see our Commitment with America that House Republicans have been hard at work writing," she said. "We will be unveiling that in the coming weeks. And this is really important. We're going to work hard to earn this majority, not only to hold Joe Biden accountable, but to put forth legislation on securing the border, on reining in inflation, reining in the reckless spending that's been happening, holding China accountable, standing up for parents and our role in the classroom on behalf of our children. So there's going to be a long list of policy to-do's and we will commit to delivering those results."

 

Stefanik, who also is playing a leading role recruiting top female candidates for GOP races nationwide, said Democrats are avoiding having a bipartisan discussion on how best to secure the Capitol and fix the flaws exposed by the Jan. 6 riots when a rag-tag, angry crowd overran a $600 million Capitol Police force.

 

"The purpose of the Jan. 6 committee with only Nancy Pelosi appointees is not to focus on how to make sure the Capitol is more secure," she said." And they're not focused on getting to the facts that led up to Jan. 6.What they are focused on is punishing their political opponents, smearing Donald Trump, smearing his voters and smearing Republican members of Congresswho have called out this committee as illegitimate which is factually correct."

While the special counsel had a strong case that the documents were not protected by attorney-client privilege, new documents strengthen it.

Documents made public last week by the Federal Election Commission reveal that Hillary Clinton campaign payments to Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on Donald Trump were not treated as legal expenses. These newly released documents eviscerate the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign’s attempts to hide behind attorney-client privilege in the special counsel’s criminal case against former Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann.

Sussmann, who awaits trial in a D.C. federal court later this month on the charge that he made a false statement to former FBI General Counsel James Baker, is currently fighting to keep prosecutors from seeing 38 documents withheld from the grand jury based on claims of attorney-client privilege. In early April, Special Counsel John Durham’s team filed a motion to compel those secreting the documents to provide them to the court to allow the judge to assess, in camera, whether they were properly withheld. In response, Sussmann argued the special counsel had waited too long to force the issue and that his criminal case was the wrong forum to litigate the question.

The day after the former Clinton campaign attorney filed his response opposing in camera review of the material, his “fellow Spygate hoaxers sought to join in Sussmann’s efforts to keep the documents concealed” by seeking to intervene in the case. Last week, the trial court granted the flurry of motions to intervene, authorizing tech executive Rodney Joffe, Fusion GPS, Perkins Coie, the DNC, and the Clinton campaign to file briefs opposing disclosure of the documents.

On Wednesday the court will hear oral arguments on the special counsel’s motion and decide whether the 38 documents must be turned over, initially to the court and then eventually to prosecutors. While Durham’s team previously had a strong case that the documents were not protected by attorney-client privilege, a document dump last week by the FEC further strengthens the prosecutor’s position.

A little more than a month ago, news broke that the FEC had fined the DNC and the Clinton campaign more than $100,000 related to those organizations’ reporting of fees paid in 2016. Those fees were paid to Fusion GPS for opposition research but marked on financial disclosures as legal expenses remitted to its law firm, Perkins Coie. Until Thursday, however, the basis for the FEC’s conclusion that probable cause existed that the DNC and Clinton campaign had misreported the purpose of those disbursements remained buried in the bureaucracy.

The now-released file about the FEC’s investigation into the DNC and the Clinton campaign contains a bevy of material. It includes, most relevantly, memoranda prepared by the FEC’s Office of General Counsel and approved by the FEC.

The memoranda conclude that probable cause supports a finding that both the Clinton campaign and the DNC misrepresented the purpose of the payments to Fusion GPS. While the political organizations reported the payments to Fusion GPS as “legal services” or “legal and compliance consulting,” the FEC concluded probable cause existed that the expenses instead related to opposition research.

The memoranda—one issued related to the DNC and the second addressing the complaint against the Clinton campaign—begin with the FEC general counsel’s office reciting the now well-known facts, beginning with the players. Perkins Coie served as general counsel for the DNC during the 2016 election cycle, the memoranda say. Then, in April 2016, Perkins Coie hired Fusion GPS to perform “a variety of research and consulting services.” The memoranda then recount the evidence the FEC general counsel reviewed, which “included invoices, account statements, copies of checks, and wire transfers.”

That evidence, the FEC concluded, showed “the DNC paid Fusion $777,907.97 for opposition research” while reporting the work as “legal and compliance consulting.” Similarly, the FEC concluded the Clinton campaign inaccurately reported $175,000 of payments to Fusion GPS for opposition research as “legal services.”

Rather than fight the FEC’s conclusion, the DNC and Clinton campaign entered settlement agreements with the agency, agreeing to pay a fine and refrain from similar violations in the future. While not conceding the violations found by the FEC, the DNC and the Clinton campaign nonetheless agreed they would “not further contest the Commission’s findings.”

A SUSPICIOUS package has been detected at the Supreme Court in Washington DC, prompting road closures and warnings to avoid the area.

 

The US Capitol Police gave the all clear right around 6pm local time.

 

Photos show Capitol Police responding to the situation, which was initially reported just before 5pm local time.

 

Staff and personnel were directed to avoid the area.

 

Multiple street closures were in effect while the Capitol Police investigated.

The incident comes as a vote is expected this week regarding the appointment of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.

 

On February 25, Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden to fill the seat being vacated by Justice Stephen Breyer after he announced his retirement.

 

Yesterday, two more Republican Senators, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney, announced they would be voting in support of Jackson's confirmation to the Supreme Court.

 

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine announced last week she would also vote in favor of Jackson's appointment.

 

Democrats are hoping to confirm Jackson by the end of the week.

 

If confirmed, Jackson would become the first Black female justice in history.

 

The suspicious package comes hours after an unrelated incident that also prompted a Capitol Police response.

 

Several "aggressive" fox encounters were reported on the grounds of the US Capitol in the early afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO – A Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston U.S. Army Soldier was found dead late Friday night on base, according to JBSA officials.

 

Spc. Craig Boylston, a 38-year-old Army Reserve member who was on active duty for training at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, was found in his car outside of his on-post lodging, officials said.

 

Boylston, who was from El Paso, had been a member of the military for more than 11 years. He had been assigned to the Medical Center of Excellence training brigade since March as a dental specialist. Officials say he was training to reclassify as a behavioral health specialist.

Catholic Church Apologizes for Role in Rwandan Genocide

The Catholic Church in Rwanda has formally apologized for the role it played in the country's genocide of 22 years ago, in which around 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days.

 

A statement by the Conference of Catholic Bishops was read out in parishes across the East African country Sunday, acknowledging that church members violated their "oath of allegiance to God's commandments" during the genocide, AP reported.

 

The genocide in Rwanda took place between April and July 1994. Members of the Hutu majority ethnic group, enraged by the assassination of Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana, systematically murdered members of the Tutsi ethnic minority and moderate Hutus.

 

Rwanda is a majority Christian country and Roman Catholics make up the biggest religious grouping in the country. Several Catholic priests have been indicted by international tribunals for alleged crimes committed during the genocide, but the church in Rwanda has not previously acknowledged its formal role in the mass-murder, saying that those guilty of crimes from within its ranks were acting individually.

Grandfather of evolutionary biology Charles Darwin wrote that “genitals do not concern us” and largely avoided the topic. Female animals were then viewed as less evolved versions of males — smaller, more immature, less aggressive. Females upheld the Victorian standards of the era, or “the coy female,” as Darwin described. Textbooks on animal behavior wrote about the “reluctant female and the ardent male.”

 

Amidst mounting evidence to the contrary, Colombian biologist Patricia Brennan started studying vaginas.

 

She began with the mallard. After finding a spiral shaped, wormlike penis in blue-gray birds called tinamou in Costa Rica (when 97% of birds have no external genitals), she turned her attention to the duck. When she discovered the fowl’s huge corkscrew-shaped phallus and the disturbing sex act that came along with it, she nearly fell off her chair. It made her wonder — what did the corresponding vagina look like?

 

She found that they were just as elaborate, filled with byzantine crevices and blind alleys. During regular copulation, the female anatomy works counter-clockwise to the male’s. When copulation is forced — which it often is — a female duck’s elaborate anatomy protects them with tooth-like cavities.

 

Brennan’s duck work “transformed scientific thinking and rehabilitated the female from passive victim to active agent of her own evolutionary destiny,” writes Cooke.

 

But duck sex was just the “gateway drug.” Other animals followed, including the dolphin which has strikingly similar spiral shaped sex organs. “Convergent evolution with a duck!” Brennan said to Cooke. “It’s nuts!”

 

Like ducks, female dolphins can shift their body and force a penis into a blind alley. “Females have evolved creative ways to control the insemination of their eggs, even when males are more powerful, numerous or forceful,” Cooke writes.

 

The battle of the sex organs often has wide evolutionary implications. When male mosquito fish evolve longer genitals, for example, the females’ brains actually grow bigger “to outwit their aggressors.”

 

Eventually, Brennan set herself a new goal to compile the world’s first physical library of animal vaginas.

 

‘Understanding genital evolution is hampered by an outdated single-sex bias.’

Study on male-skewing trends in animal research, or as one biologist calls it, “vaginal neglect”

“So many vaginas, such a short life,” Brennan told Cooke.

 

Her investigations revealed how adaptable the organ is: for example, the female privates of the spiny dogfish change shape, becoming more asymmetrical in pregnancy to accommodate pups. But nothing is quite as remarkable as the opossum, which has a surprise vagina that disappears “like a secret door” after giving birth. Opossum also have two uteri, two ovaries, and two other vaginas.

 

There are female moles with “balls,” called ovotestes, that consist of both ovarian and testicular tissue. The ovaries produce eggs and the testes make testosterone, but not sperm, to beef up the mole’s aggression and body mass. These parts of the body shrink and expand according to need and breeding season.

 

Then there are all the fake phalluses. Madagascar’s Fossa, which Cooke describes as a “puma with a shrunken head,” actually grows an “internal bone” to look like a male penis, even exuding a yellow liquid on its underside. The pretend penis disappears when the fossa is old enough to mate. Researchers believe it evolved to “protect them from unwanted attention from older males and territorial females.”

 

The ring-tailed lemur also has a pseudo-scrotum and an extended clitoris that is nearly identical to a lemur penis. They could, if they wanted, “write their name in the snow,” joked one lemur researcher.

 

Genitals evolve faster than any other body part, Cooke writes, and Brennan and other researchers believe that females actually play a greater role in genital natural selection than males, thereby acting as more active agents of evolution than any of the earlier, male-centric researchers could have imagined.
