DOJ signals to Jordan that it won’t share info on criminal investigations

‘Longstanding policy’ directs department to stay quiet about inquiries.

The Department of Justice this week signaled to Congress that it was not likely to comply with requests for oversight into ongoing criminal investigations, citing longstanding federal policy regarding those inquiries.

The Office of the Assistant Attorney General said in a letter to Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan regarding his “requests to interview Department officials” that “as a matter of longstanding policy and practice, the Department refrains from making line agents and line attorneys available for congressional testimony or interviews.”

The letter further noted that the DOJ refrains from either “confirming or denying the existence of pending investigations in response to congressional requests or providing non-public information about our investigations.”

The preemptive denial of certain oversight requests likely signals upcoming tension between House Republicans and the Biden DOJ, with the former vowing to launch numerous oversight investigations into the federal government as part of their new control of the lower chamber.

Jordan serves as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which exercises significant oversight over federal administrative and judicial matters.

Gen. Mark Milley: ‘Very, Very Difficult’ to Eject Russian Forces from Ukraine This Year

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley acknowledged on Friday that it would be difficult for Ukrainian forces to “eject” Russian forces from all of Ukraine this year.

“From a military standpoint, I still maintain that for this year it would be very, very difficult to militarily eject the Russian forces from all — every inch of Ukraine and occupied — or Russian-occupied Ukraine. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen, doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but it’d be very, very difficult,” Milley said in Germany.

He said what he thinks can happen is a “continued defense stabilized in the front.”

But he again poured cold water on the idea of a military victory for Ukraine.

“But I do think at the end of the day this war, like many wars in the past, will end at some sort of negotiating table, and that’ll be determined in terms of timing by the leaders of both countries, both Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

Milley was speaking at a press conference after a meeting of about 50 defense leaders of nations supporting Ukraine, known as the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. Friday marked the eighth meeting of the group.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin pledged to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes.” That statement was accompanied by another package of military aid to Ukraine, in the amount of $2.5 billion.

The U.S. has sent $27.5 billion in military equipment, much of it from its own stocks, to Ukrainian forces since January 2021, and more than $100 billion in aid overall.

In November, the New York Times reported that Milley has argued inside the White House that the Ukrainians have made as many gains on the battlefield as possible before winter and they should try to cement those gains at the bargaining table, but other Biden administration officials disagreed that it is time for negotiations.

However, Milley quickly tried to clarify his remarks afterwards, spouting the administration’s line that the United States would “continue to support Ukraine as long as it takes to keep them free.”

Milley did say on Friday, however, it is “very, very possible” for Ukraine to be able to launch an offensive against Russian forces to “liberate as much Ukrainian territory as possible,” but that there was a “short window of time” to be able to equip and train Ukrainian forces.

“They’ve got to be married up with the equipment and then they’ve got to be trained. And if you look at the weather and terrain, et cetera, you can see that you have a relatively short window of time to accomplish both those key tasks. So that’s very, very challenging to do that,” he said.

“For all of these different nations that were here today, to assemble all of the equipment, get it all synchronized, get the Ukrainian troops trained, et cetera, that’ll be a very, very heavy lift,” he said. “I think it can be done but I think that it’ll be a challenge.”

Ukraine - Russian Army Activates Southern Front

The long expected Russian offensive in Ukraine has begun.

The Ukrainian army, egged on by its U.S. controllers, had put most of its resource into the static defense of the Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) - Soledar sector of the eastern front. An insane number of Ukrainian brigades, though many partially depleted, were concentrated on that 50 kilometer long front. This left other sectors nearly empty of Ukrainian troops.

I count the equivalent of some 27 brigade size formations in that area. The usual size of a brigade is some 3,000 to 4,000 men with hundreds of all kinds of vehicles. If all brigades had their full strength that force would count as 97,500 men. In a recent interview the Ukrainian military commander Zaluzhny said that his army has 200,000 men trained to fight with 500,000 more having other functions or currently being trained. The forces which are currently getting mauled in the Bakhmut area constitute 50% of Ukraine's battle ready forces.

On the southern and northern sectors of the battle-line the Ukrainian forces have been thinned out and are only able to defend against minor forces.

The Ukrainian forces in the north and south are in the same position Russian troops had been in when the Ukrainian army last year launched a blitz attack in the Kharkiv region. The Russian screening force of some 2,000 boarder guards and federal police retreated and used its artillery to destroy the oncoming Ukrainian forces. The attack ran out of power and came to a halt after progressing some 70 kilometers on a rather large front. But Ukraine no longer has, unlike the Russians at that time, the artillery that is need to stop a larger thrust.

The Global Economy Financial Conflict Is Similar To Aviation Flight Without Border

The easiest way to fully understand the global economy financial conflict between nations is compare it with the aviation flight.

In the aviation industry, there are always 2 kind of flights: domestic flight vs international flight.

Why that?

For safety and security.

With the international flight, it will take much more time to checking before both “enter” and “exit” the border.

With the domestic flight, you won’t need that much time.

But can you imagine what happen if there won’t be any separation between international flight and domestic flight, but only 1 “flight” type in the aviation industry?

Then all the international airports with decent amount of passengers will collapse and cannot operating because the border police do not have time for that kind of checking for the mass, the number are too much too handle.

The flow of passengers and the flow of money are similar.

All the conflicts related to global economy financial is because they do not separate between domestic trading vs international trading !

All the major problems would disappear overnight if all the nations/authority demand have domestic currency for domestic trading, international currency for international trading.

The old system are outdated and not “match” with the current living environment.

You have many big international groups that only focus on make money without care about the society.

But the duty of national government is make the society less chaos and balance, but their “power” is limited within their nation only. Even within any authority, there always conflicts and corruption between people as well.

So overall, it is chaos because they do not “separate” and “sort” out the currency.

There is no any solution left for this mortal human realm !

GI-TOC: Network that Trafficked Over 30 Tonnes of Ivory Yet to Face Justice

Despite charges of illicitly trafficking over 30 tonnes of ivory for over a decade now, the alleged members of one of Africa’s largest wildlife-trafficking networks have by and large managed to evade conviction, according to a risk bulletin compiled by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC).

Although several alleged members of one of the world’s most active wildlife-trafficking syndicates have been circulated through various African courts since 2010, few cases have reached their conclusion and fewer still have resulted in a conviction.

Liberian national Moazu Kromah—also know as ‘Kampala Man’—is believed to stand at the head of this criminal organization, and although his network is linked to at least 15 major ivory-trafficking cases responsible for the theft and transport of over 30 tonnes of ivory, only one has ended in a guilty sentence with the two accused receiving only two-year sentences.

Despite Kromah’s arrest in 2017, his extradition to the U.S. two years later, and finally his guilty plea for three wildlife-trafficking offenses in March this year, the speed at which his case was processed has raised troubling concerns as to when the network as a whole will face justice for their actions.

The Ugandan Wildlife Authority (UWA) and Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN), who for several years investigated Kromah’s syndicate, described the man as “the centre of a vast ring of organized criminals…connected to at least four other major criminal syndicates…supplying the biggest wildlife criminal syndicates worldwide.”

At the time of Kampala Man’s arrest in 2017, the UWA and NRCN also recovered over 430 pieces of ivory weighing in at over 1.3 tonnes.

However, his criminal proceedings ran into several speed bumps following his incarceration. Kromah reportedly bribed several officials to bury his case and Interpol documents were later uncovered in his home, further suggesting that he had corrupted Uganda’s courts, according to GI-TOC.

Though he remained free as of 2018, by this time American authorities had entered the fray. Kromah was persuaded to travel to the U.S. to sell rhino horns where he was arrested for wildlife trafficking once and for all in June 2019.

Authorities soon uncovered the scope of Kampala Man’s criminal syndicate, which shipped ivory and other animal parts from several African nations including Kenya, Mozambique, and Uganda.

Nuremberg - Several U.S. soldiers have attacked police officers at Nuremberg Central Station.

Initially, the group had quarreled among themselves at the exit of a discotheque on Saturday morning, police reported Monday.

Prince Andrew is to launch a dramatic bid to overturn the multi-million-pound settlement he struck with the woman who accused him of sexual assault.

The Duke of York has consulted lawyers in an attempt to get Virginia Roberts to retract her allegations and possibly secure an apology, The Mail on Sunday understands.

He was inspired to act after Ms Roberts dropped her lawsuit against another man she accused of sexual assault, admitting that she 'may have made a mistake' in identifying him.

And sources suggest the King will not oppose any legal action Andrew might take to clear his name – even though Charles previously told his brother he would be permanently exiled from Royal life.

Ms Roberts – who now goes by her married name Giuffre – claimed she was forced to have sex with the Prince when she was 17, having been trafficked by convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In the out-of-court settlement, Andrew accepted no blame, and continues to strenuously deny any wrongdoing. But the scandal damaged his reputation and made him an outcast from the Royal Family. He was stripped of his military titles and asked not to use his HRH title.

However, those close to Andrew claim he always wanted to fight the allegations in court, and was 'bounced' into agreeing a deal by Palace forces who feared the negative publicity of the case would overshadow the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

'Andrew felt as if he was in a pressure-cooker, as if he was given no option but to settle,' a source said. 'But he never wanted to settle and has always insisted he was innocent. He wants to see what legal routes might be available to him.

"At the outset of this matter, the President directed his personal attorneys to fully cooperate with the Department of Justice," Bauer said. "Accordingly, having previously identified and reported to DOJ a small number of documents with classification markings at the President’s Wilmington home, and in the interest of moving the process forward as expeditiously as possible, we offered to provide prompt access to his home to allow DOJ to conduct a search of the entire premises for potential vice-presidential records and potential classified material."

"DOJ had full access to the President’s home, including personally handwritten notes, files, papers, binders, memorabilia, to-do lists, schedules, and reminders going back decades," Bauer continued.

"DOJ took possession of materials it deemed within the scope of its inquiry, including six items consisting of documents with classification markings and surrounding materials, some of which were from the President’s service in the Senate and some of which were from his tenure as Vice President," Bauer said. "DOJ also took for further review personally handwritten notes from the vice-presidential years."

Bauer added that the president's team has "attempted to balance the importance of public transparency where appropriate with the established norms and limitations necessary to protect the investigation’s integrity."

"We will continue to do so throughout the course of our cooperation with DOJ," Bauer said.

While Bauer's statement addresses that the Justice Department took "six items consisting of documents with classification markings," it is unclear the exact number of classified documents seized during the search.

"The President’s lawyers and White House Counsel’s Office will continue to cooperate with DOJ and the Special Counsel to help ensure this process is conducted swiftly and efficiently," White House counsel Richard Sauber said in a statement Saturday evening.

The search comes a week after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate the president’s possible unauthorized removal and improper retention of classified documents and records discovered at the Penn Biden Center in Washington D.C., and in his private residence in Wilmington, Delaware.

Classified records were found inside the Washington, D.C., offices of the Penn Biden Center think tank on Nov. 2, 2022, but only disclosed to the public last week.

A second stash of classified documents was also found inside the garage of the president’s home in Wilmington. Last weekend, additional classified documents were found in the president’s home.
