Ukrainian nationalists commemorate Nazi collaborator (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Roman Shukhevich and his forces were implicated in the mass murder of Jews and Poles during World War II

 

Ukrainian nationalists gathered this week to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the death of Roman Shukhevich, a Nazi collaborator and leader of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA),known for its role in ethnic cleansing during World War II. The events included a torchlit march, a flower-laying ceremony, and the unveiling of a virtual museum dedicated to him.

 

One of the events included a ceremony on Wednesday near the site of the Museum of Shukhevich in Bilohorshcha outside of Lviv, which was allegedly destroyed by a Russian drone strike last year.It was attended bythe acting head of the Lviv Regional Council, regional deputies, veterans, and nationalist organizations, according to local officials.

 

The Lviv Regional Councilalso said priests conducted a memorial service commemorating Roman Shukhevichand his followers. A video of the ceremony shared by Suspilne shows a crowd singing the Ukrainian national anthem, with people laying yellow and blue bouquets after the Ukrainian flag.

 

A day earlier, Ukrainian nationalists also held a torchlit march in Lviv to honor Shukhevich, with the event attracting over 1,000 participants, according to the newspaper Den.The marchers carried red and black UPA flagsand banners of nationalist organizations, including those of the far-right groups Right Sector and Svoboda.The event ended with a prayer at a monument to Stepan Bandera, another nationalist leader linked to Nazi collaboration.

 

Adding to the commemoration, the Lviv Historical Museum launched a virtual museum of Shukhevich based on the original museum.Russia has not confirmed the strike that was said to have destroyed it in 2024, with officials in Moscow stating that Russian forces only attack sites linked to the military.

 

Shukhevich served in the Nachtigall Battalion, a unit formed by Ukrainian nationalists under German command in 1941.The battalion took part in the massacre of Jews in Lviv following the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union.

 

Later, he became a commander in the Schutzmannschaft Battalion 201, which conducted anti-partisan operations,targeting Jews and Belarusian civilians. In 1943, he assumed the leadership of the UPA, which was responsible for the Volyn massacres, inwhich tens of thousands of Polish civilians were slaughtered.

 

Shukhevych was killed in 1950 during a Soviet raid, allegedly committing suicide after his hideout was surrounded by security forces.

 

Russia has repeatedly sounded the alarm over the resurgence of Nazi ideology in Ukraine, and has listed ‘denazification’ as one of the key goals of its military operation against Kiev.

Russia hits Ukrainian energy sites

Moscow has said it targeted the gas infrastructure that powers Kiev’s military

Russian forces carried out a series of strikes on Ukrainian energy sites on Friday, the Defense Ministry has said in its daily briefing.

 

According to the MOD, a “group strike” targeted “gas and energy infrastructure that powers the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.” Long-range missiles and drones were used in the barrage.

 

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko wrote on Facebook that “the energy and gas infrastructure in different Ukrainian regions has been hit by massive missiles and drone strikes.”

 

The authorities were responding with “necessary measures to stabilize the energy and gas supply.”

 

Ukraine’s national gas and oil company Naftogaz said in a short statement thatits gas-extracting facilities have been damaged. Officials in the northern Chernigov Region and the western regions of Ternopol and Ivano-Frankovsk reported local power outages from strikes on “critical industrial sites.”

 

The local authorities in the eastern Poltava Region said “the fragments of an enemy projectile” fell on a house, injuring three people.

 

Russia first ramped up strikes on energy infrastructure in response to the Ukrainian bombing of the bridge that connects Crimea with mainland Russia in October 2022.

 

In April 2024, President VladimirPutin saidRussian forces were hitting energy facilities in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil.“We have seen a series of strikes on our energy sites and were forced to retaliate.”

 

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday that the strikes were directed at“sites linked to the production of weapons in Ukraine.”

Michael Pence’s military tribunal resumed Monday morning following a brief recess requested by the woman on the witness stand, Katie Rose Miller, Pence’s former communications director and wife to Trump confidante Stephen Miller. She reaffirmed her oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, as MPs escorted a handcuffed Pence to the defense table and reminded him pandemonium would not be tolerated in the Admiral’s courtroom.

She called to the stand a Secret Service agent who had protected Pence from 2018 to 2020. RRN was asked to shield his identity, so we’ll refer to him as “Agent Smith.”

The Admiral went through the formalities of swearing him in and having him cite his credentials, then got straight to the point.

“According to your deposition, you were with the defendant at the Hyatt Place Kent Narrows & Marina Hotel on February 20, 2018. Is that correct?” she asked the agent.

Agent Smith cleared his throat noisily. “My partner and I were outside the suite standing guard while Mr. Pence was in the room with his, yeah, company.”

“Company?” the Admiral queried.

“He was with an adolescent male,” the agent said.

“And you know this how?” asked the Admiral.

“Obviously, we saw them enter together. Pence told us to wait outside and that he’d be ‘finished’ in about 30 minutes,” Agent Smith said.

“You didn’t think that was fishy,” said Adm. Reynolds.

“Michael Pence is Michael Pence. He did whatever he wanted, and we, meaning the agents assigned to guard him, understood if we ratted him out, our lives, our careers, and the lives of our families would be jeopardized,” he answered.

NASA Webb Wows With Incredible Detail in Actively Forming Star System

High-resolution near-infrared light captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope shows extraordinary new detail and structure in Lynds 483 (L483).

Two actively forming stars are responsible for the shimmering ejections of gas and dust that gleam in orange, blue, and purple in this representative color image.

 

Over tens of thousands of years, the central protostars have periodically ejected some of the gas and dust, spewing it out as tight, fast jets and slightly slower outflows that “trip” across space.

When more recent ejections hit older ones, the material can crumple and twirl based on the densities of what is colliding.

Over time, chemical reactions within these ejections and the surrounding cloud have produced a range of molecules, like carbon monoxide, methanol, and several other organic compounds.

Dust-Encased Stars

The two protostars responsible for this scene are at the center of the hourglass shape, in an opaque horizontal disk of cold gas and dust that fits within a single pixel.

Much farther out, above and below the flattened disk where dust is thinner, the bright light from the stars shines through the gas and dust, forming large semi-transparent orange cones.

 

It’s equally important to notice where the stars’ light is blocked — look for the exceptionally dark, wide V-shapes offset by 90 degrees from the orange cones.

These areas may look like there is no material, but it’s actually where the surrounding dust is the densest, and little starlight penetrates it.

If you look carefully at these areas, Webb’s sensitive NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) has picked up distant stars as muted orange pinpoints behind this dust. Where the view is free of obscuring dust, stars shine brightly in white and blue.

 

Unraveling the Stars’ Ejections

Some of the stars’ jets and outflows have wound up twisted or warped. To find examples, look toward the top right edge where there’s a prominent orange arc.

This is a shock front, where the stars’ ejections were slowed by existing, denser material.

 

Now, look a little lower, where orange meets pink. Here, material looks like a tangled mess. These are new, incredibly fine details Webb has revealed, and will require detailed study to explain.

Turn to the lower half. Here, the gas and dust appear thicker. Zoom in to find tiny light purple pillars. They point toward the central stars’ nonstop winds, and formed because the material within them is dense enough that it hasn’t yet been blown away.

L483 is too large to fit in a single Webb snapshot, and this image was taken to fully capture the upper section and outflows, which is why the lower section is only partially shown. (See a larger view observed by NASA's retired Spitzer Space Telescope.)

 

All the symmetries and asymmetries in these clouds may eventually be explained as researchers reconstruct the history of the stars’ ejections, in part by updating models to produce the same effects.

Astronomers will also eventually calculate how much material the stars have expelled, which molecules were created when material smashed together, and how dense each area is.

 

Millions of years from now, when the stars are finished forming, they may each be about the mass of our Sun.

Their outflows will have cleared the area — sweeping away these semi-transparent ejections.

All that may remain is a tiny disk of gas and dust where planets may eventually form.

 

L483 is named for American astronomer Beverly T. Lynds, who published extensive catalogs of “dark” and “bright” nebulae in the early 1960s.

She did this by carefully examining photographic plates (which preceded film) of the first Palomar Observatory Sky Survey, accurately recording each object’s coordinates and characteristics.

These catalogs provided astronomers with detailed maps of dense dust clouds where stars form — critical resources for the astronomical community decades before the first digital files became available and access to the internet was widespread.

14-year-old charged with murder in Newark police officer shooting

The 14-year-old who is accused of shooting a police officer while he was still in his car in Newark, New Jersey, was charged with murder and attempted murder, officials said Saturday.

 

Detective Joseph Azcona, 26, died at a hospital and a second officer who was also shot was recovering from his injuries.

 

Shots rang out around 6:30 p.m. near a White Castle and McDonald’s where the teen was hanging out with friends, ABC7 reported, citing the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

No public say in key defense decisions– French PM

Francois Bayrou has rejected calls for a referendum on military decisions, arguing that defense policy is the government’s responsibility

 

French Prime Minister Franсois Bayrou has rejected the idea of consulting the public on critical defense decisions, asserting that such matters fall under government responsibility.

 

In an interview on CNews and Europe 1, journalist Sonia Mabrouk asked Bayrouwhether the French people should have a say in major defense policies, including the financial burden of increased military spending and the shift towards a “war economy.”

 

“Maybe it’s time to consult the French? It’s really the right of the people to dispose of themselves,” she suggested.

 

Bayrou dismissed the idea. “Yes, what you suggest is the right of the people not to dispose of themselves, or to no longer dispose of themselves, to give up on their freedom,” he responded. He argued that allowing public votes on defense matters would be akin to France abandoning its responsibility to protect itself.

 

Bayrou emphasized that the French Constitution restricts referendums to economic, social, or institutional matters, excluding military and defense issues. “We consult the French, it’s the Constitution. But a referendum can only take place on very specific economic, social, or institutional issues,” he stated.

 

His stance aligns with recent government efforts to bolster national defense. On Friday, Bayrou and Finance Minister Eric Lombard announced thatFrance is considering launching a national loan to fund increased defense spending. The move comes as EU nations are seeking to strengthen their military capabilities, particularly in response to the US halting military aid to Ukraine and questioning its NATO commitments. Lombard mentioned the possibility of a national defense loan, which Bayrou acknowledged as an option, though no final decision has been made.

 

French President Emmanuel Macron recently committed to higher defense spending but did not specify the amount and ruled out tax hikes.The initiative, however, faces challenges due to France’s budget deficit and pressure to control expenditures, highlighted by the delayed approval of the 2025 budget in the divided parliament. In January, French Budget Minister Amelie de Montchalin announced plans to cut public spending by €32 billion (approximately $34.6 billion) and increase taxes by €21 billion.

FAA investigating SpaceX Starship Flight 8 explosion that disrupted commercial flights

SpaceX's latest Starship to attempt to reach space exploded nine minutes after its launch this week, leaving a trail of debris in its wake.

Airports in Florida were forced to halt flights as the threat from impacts extended south to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Now the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is again requiring SpaceX to perform a mishap investigation into what led its eighth Starship test flight to end with a loss of the vehicle.

 

The rocket launched toward space Thursday (March 7) from SpaceX's Starbase facility near Boca Chica Beach in South Texas.

It was the company's second launch in a row to conclude with an explosion (its Starship Flight 7 test met a similar fate in January) and came as the investigation into the previous "mishap" had yet to be concluded.

 

"A mishap investigation is designed to enhance public safety, determine the root cause of the event and identify corrective actions to avoid it from happening again," the FAA wrote in a statement.

"The FAA will be involved in every step of the SpaceX-led mishap investigation process and must approve SpaceX's final report, including any corrective actions."

 

Starship was following its planned trajectory when, prior to the cut off of an ascent burn, an "energetic event" in the rare of the Starship caused the loss of several of its engines," wrote SpaceX in a post-flight report published on its website.

Communications were subsequently lost with the steel spacecraft, with final contact occurring at 9 minutes and 30 seconds into the flight.

 

"Starship flew within a designated launch corridor to safeguard the public both on the ground, on water and in the air," the company wrote.

"Following the anomaly, SpaceX teams immediately began coordination with the FAA, ATO (air traffic control) and other safety officials to implement pre-planned contingency responses."

 

Airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Orlando slowed aircraft outside the area where space vehicle debris was falling or stopped aircraft before their departure in response to an alert sent out by the FAA.

Once the threat from debris passed, normal operations resumed. "A Debris Response Area is activated only if the space vehicle experiences an anomaly with debris falling outside of the identified closed aircraft hazard areas.

It allows the FAA to direct aircraft to exit the area and prevent others from entering," the administration wrote in its statement.

 

If any debris made it to the ground, SpaceX said it would have fallen within a planned area. Any surviving pieces did not include toxic materials and was safe to sea animals and water quality, according to SpaceX.

Still, if any debris is found, the company said it should be reported to local authorities or the SpaceX Debris Hotline (1-866-623-0234 or recovery@spacex.com).

 

The Starship's launch booster, which SpaceX calls Super Heavy, successfully separated from the vehicle and for only the third time, executed a return to its launch site, where it was caught in mid-air by chopstick-like arms on its launch tower.

"With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and [Thursday's] flight will help us improve Starship's reliability," SpaceX wrote.

 

"We will conduct a thorough investigation, in coordination with the FAA, and implement corrective actions to make improvements on future Starship flight tests."

SpaceX's ability to fly Starship again will be based on the FAA determining that "any system, process or procedure related to the mishap does not affect public safety," FAA officials wrote.

A Falcon 9 booster that was destroyed after landing March 2 suffered a fuel leak during its flight that triggered a fire.

SpaceX officials speaking at two briefings March 7 about upcoming launches for NASA provided new details about the incident on the March 2 launch of a set of Starlink satellites, known by the company as Group 12-20, which caused the booster to topple after landing on a droneship.

 

At one briefing about the upcoming Falcon 9 launch of NASA’s SPHEREx astronomy spacecraft and PUNCH space science mission, Julianna Scheiman, director of NASA science missions at SpaceX, said a fire broke out about 48 seconds after what appeared to be a normal landing of the booster.

“That fire eventually resulted in the deterioration of the structural integrity of the landing leg in that booster and toppled over,” she said.

 

Scheiman said both SpaceX and NASA’s Launch Services Program (LSP) reviewed data from the incident. “There’s no concern or risk to ascent.”

Denton Gibson, launch director for the mission for NASA LSP, confirmed at the briefing that NASA did its own independent evaluation of the incident, offering a “fresh set of eyes” to ensure there are no issues with the upcoming launch.

“We’ve gone through that process and we’ve gotten comfortable,” he said, allowing the completion of a launch readiness review.

 

The SPHEREx/PUNCH launch, now scheduled for 10:09 p.m. Eastern March 8, has been delayed more than a week primarily by launch vehicle issues.

While SpaceX has not conducted a Falcon 9 launch since the failed landing, Scheiman said teams have been working on other issues with the vehicle for SPHEREx and PUNCH, including the payload adapter and fairing.

 

At another briefing a few hours later about the Crew-10 mission to the International Space Station, Bill Gerstenmaier, vice president of build and flight reliability at SpaceX, offered more details about the incident on the Group 12-20 launch.

He said there was a fuel leak starting about 85 seconds after liftoff in one of the nine engines in the booster. The fuel was vaporized by a hot portion the engine, creating a flammable environment.

“But on the way up, there was on oxygen to interact with the fuel, so there was no problem at all during ascent.”

 

He said that about 45 seconds after landing, “enough oxygen came into the compartment where it interacted with the fuel and a hot portion of the engine, which was known to be hot, and then we had a fire.”

That fire blew out a “barrel panel” on the side of the rocket as designed. The fire, he noted, was contained within the compartment for that single engine.

 

“If we would have a problem during the ascent, this shows that the fire and the damage would be contained with just a single engine out, which still allows us to accomplish the entire mission,” Gerstenmaier said.

Engineers are still working to identify the source of the leak. “It’s pretty difficult to determine what was cause and what was effect from the fire,” he said. “The fire was pretty extensive. It melted a lot of aluminum components, so it’s difficult to see.”

 

Steve Stich, NASA commercial crew program manager, said later in the briefing that the agency will look carefully at that issue as it prepares for the Crew-10 launch, scheduled for March 12.

That includes a static fire of the booster planned for the evening of March 9. “We have an opportunity to step back and think about our flight, and think about the maintenance we did on our vehicle, all the areas that we inspected,” he said.

“We’ll go static fire the vehicle and look extra careful to look see if there’s any area where we could potentially have a fuel leak.”

‘Not surprising’ German state could have concealed Nazi-looted art – MP

The Bavarian authorities have allegedly kept secret the dubious provenance of more than 200 works

 

A German regional lawmaker has said he is “not surprised” by allegations that the state of Bavaria may have concealed Nazi-looted art from the rightful heirs of the works, accusingthe German government of a longstanding pattern of withholding compensation for historical injustices.

 

In an interview with RT on Friday, Martin Dolzer, an independent MP in the Hamburg parliament, addressed a report by the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper last month claiming that the Bavarian State Painting Collections contained at least 200 artworks of dubious origin.

 

The works of art –including paintings by Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso– were classified as “red” — meaning they were plundered by the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s from Jewish owners and other victims of persecution, the report said, adding that this information had been withheld from the public, preventing potential restitution.

 

“Unfortunately, I’m not very surprised by that. And I think it’s a fact. The German government and the federal state governments always denied they have the common practice if it comes to money.Whenever it comes to compensation payments, the German authorities refused to make these payments,”Dolzer said.

 

In light of this, he drew parallels between Bavaria’s alleged cover-up and Germany’s refusal to pay the full amount of war reparations claimed by Greece for numerous atrocities and the plundering of its resources during World War II.

 

While the MP acknowledged that it could be difficult to find the heirs of the original owners of the artworks, he suggested that the Suddeutsche Zeitung report makes many things clear. “So I think it’s a kind of attempt at greenwashing by the Bavarian government,”he added.

 

While the Bavarian authorities have rejected the allegations, insisting that the leaked list was a “pure working tool” that depicted a “work-in-progress status” that was subject to frequent changes, Dolzer dismissed this defense as “excuses.”

 

German Culture Minister Claudia Roth responded to the reports by warning that if the accusations were true, Bavaria’s actions would amount to “a scandal,” suggesting that therevelations could signal “a lack of transparency” and “possibly deliberate concealment.”

 

Between 1933 and 1945, the Nazi regime systematically looted art across Germany and occupied Europe, seizing hundreds of thousands of works from museums, galleries, and private collections. Jewish art owners were the primary victims, as the Nazis either forced them to sell their prized items or outright confiscated them. The works then often ended up in the hands of high-ranking Nazi officials.

Judge authorizes Space Perspective airport eviction; company fiscal position 'has not improved'

A judge authorized Space Perspective's eviction from Space Coast Regional Airport on Thursday, and the financially strapped high-altitude balloon tourism company is expediting the involvement of liquidators and leaseholders to clear equipment from the property, court records show.

In addition, Space Perspective faces two more eviction lawsuits from landlords at NASA's Kennedy Space Center and a Melbourne industrial park.

Both lawsuits were filed last week, and they seek at least a combined $108,851 in alleged unpaid rent and other charges.

 

The Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority sued Space Perspective in mid-January seeking $90,295 in unpaid rent at three leased properties, including a high-profile, 700-foot-long balloon manufacturing facility.

Company officials had dedicated the balloon factory in August 2023, with hopes to someday sell $125,000 tickets and send passengers 100,000 feet above Earth inside luxurious pressurized capsules with meals, Wi-Fi and cocktail service.

But work activity largely halted by this January, with the bulk of employees furloughed.

 

Thursday afternoon, a Brevard County Circuit Court judge authorized the eviction during a brief virtual hearing from the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Justice Center in Viera.

Adam Bird, the Titusville airport's general counsel, said Space Perspective has ceased operations and he believes remaining on-site property is "largely collateralized."

He said airport officials will work with Space Perspective Interim CEO Michael Savage to find a date to remove the property, which may be stored in the meantime.

 

'The company's financial position has not improved'

In a pair of Jan. 22 court filings, Savage said rental payments were not made to the airport in full by the due date, but "ongoing negotiations and financial constraints contributed to the delay."

He requested a stay in eviction proceedings or mediation, saying relocation was "not immediately viable and would cause excessive harm."

 

But Savage did not oppose Space Perspective's eviction during Thursday's court hearing, which lasted less than 10 minutes.

Rather, in a Wednesday email to court officials, Savage said it is now his goal to have the majority of equipment moved out by mid-March.

 

"My initial intent in contesting this matter was to preserve jobs within our organization, as we had active investor interest.

However, despite our best efforts, the company's financial position has not improved, and we are working in full cooperation with the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority to vacate the premises as efficiently as possible," he said in the email.

 

Savage added, "I remain in close communication to expedite the involvement of liquidators and leaseholders to ensure the remaining relocation process moves forward smoothly."

Beyond Thursday's court hearing, Space Perspective faces eviction lawsuits from its landlords at two other Brevard County facilities.

 

North Dow, LLLP, is suing seeking at least $104,566 in rent and other charges since Dec. 1 from Space Perspective's leased 30,150-square-foot space at the Trio Industrial Plaza in Melbourne.

Space Perspective manufactured its prototype Spaceship Neptune capsule, a carbon-composite sphere measuring 14½ feet across, at a Melbourne factory. Crews installed the capsule's componentry inside a hangar at the Titusville airport.

 

Also, Space Florida sued to evict the company over $4,285 in unpaid monthly payments at its 2,520-square-foot leased space at the Reusable Launch Vehicle Hangar at KSC.

This space was designated "for the storage of non-hazardous materials, operational support equipment and the assembly of a test article," an April 2021 NASA memo said.

 

"The RLV hangar space is limited and as the commercial aerospace industry rapidly grows so does market demand for physical space.

Space Florida's role is to advance the industry while also protecting the community's investment," Space Florida spokesperson Alayna Curry said in an email.

"The challenges the company is facing are not uncommon, and many have successfully navigated similar circumstances. We wish them all the best," Curry said.

FCC allows a power boost for SpaceX’s direct-to-smartphone service

SpaceX secured permission March 7 to provide direct-to-smartphone satellite services at higher power levels to improve connectivity beyond the reach of cell towers across the United States.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission said it is allowing SpaceX to emit more power into spectrum bands adjacent to its partner T-Mobile’s frequencies, provided it does not interfere with other networks following concerns from rival telcos.

 

This conditional approval follows the FCC’s November decision allowing SpaceX to use T-Mobile’s cellular frequencies on up to 7,500 Gen2 Starlink satellites for Supplemental Coverage from Space (SCS).

At the time, the FCC postponed a decision on whether to let these satellites operate at higher power levels — an upgrade paving the way for services to expand beyond SOS and texting to support real-time voice and video calls.

 

Companies such as Verizon and AT&T, which have partnered with direct-to-smartphone startup AST SpaceMobile, warned that increased emissions could degrade the performance of terrestrial mobile networks in the United States and create interference risks.

SpaceX pointed to technical studies showing that increased power levels remained within safe interference thresholds, arguing that relaxing power limits is essential for delivering reliable emergency communications and expanding mobile coverage to underserved areas.

 

In its ruling, the FCC determined that SpaceX’s proposed power levels were justified and unlikely to cause harmful interference.

“The Commission determined that deployment of SCS will serve important public interest goals for the nation — expanding the reach of communications services, including emergency services, to more remote places,” the FCC said, noting SpaceX said the permission was “crucial to its widespread deployment of SCS, and emphasized the need to enable faster and more reliable voice communications in remote locations.”

 

The direct-to-smartphone service is currently in a free beta testing phase open to all U.S. carriers until July. After that, rival carriers and some T-Mobile plans will require a monthly fee for access.

Of the more than 7,000 Starlink satellites currently in low Earth orbit, around 500 are equipped with a direct-to-smartphone payload.

Speaking at the Stand Up for Science rally in Washington, the former host of the PBS children’s show "Bill Nye the Science Guy" said science is part of the American story and has enabled the United States to feed the world, cure diseases, create global transportation systems and send people into space.

 

“If the U.S. is to lead the world, science cannot be suppressed,” he told a large crowd assembled outside the Lincoln Memorial.

Nye was one of at least a dozen speakers at an event designed to bring attention to the Trump administration’s recent cuts to scientific research funded by the National Institutes of Health.

In February, the Department of Health and Human Services cut hundreds of millions of dollars in NIH funding for the administrative costs of conducting health research.

 

Following a lawsuit filed on behalf of 22 attorneys general who argued that halting research would lead to people losing access to vaccines and cures for cancer, infectious diseases and addiction, a U.S. district judge temporarily halted the cuts last month.

Several rare cancer survivors who have benefited from cures funded by the NIH spoke at Friday’s event, including Emily Whitehead, who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia at age 5 and has been cancer free for 13 years after participating in a clinical trial for a new cell therapy treatment that was only possible through federally funded research.

“We’re celebrating the achievements of science over decades and advocating for strong public support at a time when serious threats of harm are happening,” said Dr. Francis Collins, a physician and scientist who led the Human Genome Project that allowed scientists to identify genes associated with certain diseases.

 

He also led the National Institutes of Health for 12 years, serving under three presidents in both political parties.

“I’m a patriot. I love my country, and I’m worried about my country right now,” he said, before reciting the last line of the Gettysburg Address inscribed on the nearby Lincoln Memorial:

"The nation shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth."

 

Collins said the Human Genome Project only succeeded through the strong support of members of Congress from both parties.

Polish PM plans to double size of army

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has unveiled plans to more than double the size of the country’s military to 500,000. Speaking in the Polish Parliament on Friday, Tusk said Poland must be prepared for future conflicts and strengthen its defenses.

 

Tusk reiterated his earlier claims that Russia poses a threat to Europe, sayingMoscow could launch a “full-scale operation” against a “larger”target than Ukraine within three to four years– whichRussia has repeatedly dismissed as unfounded. He argued that Poland must serve as a “bastion” to protect NATO’s eastern flank and should expand its military capabilities.

 

“We’re talking about the need to have an army of half-a-million in Poland, including the reservists,” he stated, noting that Poland’s current armed forces number around 200,000, which he compared to Russia’s estimated 1.3 million troops. Tusk said his government is drafting legislation that would require every adult male in Poland to undergo “large-scale military training” to prepare for a potential conflict with Russia.

 

“We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is trained in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to the potential threats,” he said. He added that Polish women may also be required to undergo military training, thought “war is still to a greater extent the domain of men.”

 

Tusk’s remarks came a day after EU leaders approved a major military spending plan to unlock billions of euros to build up defense capabilities. The initiative – ReArm Europe – which was adopted following an emergency summit in Brussels, hikes defense spending by up to €800 billion ($840 billion) – twice the total EU defense expenditures in 2024. The Kremlin condemned the bloc’s “militarization” plan, calling it a path towards confrontation that hinders peace efforts with Ukraine.

 

In addition to a larger army, Tusk said Poland must enhance its military capabilities, including through the acquisition of nuclear and “modern unconventional weapons.” Tusk’s speech followed his recent accusations that Moscow is fueling a new arms race, and calls for fellow EU nations to ramp up defense spending.

 

The Kremlin has criticized Tusk’s rhetoric as confrontational and militaristic. Moscow has rejected accusations that it poses a military threat to Europe, with President Vladimir Putin dismissing the claims as “nonsense” designed to justify increased military budgets.

Trump mulls pulling US troops out of Germany – Telegraph

The president is reportedly outraged by the EU’s attitude towards the Ukraine conflict

 

US President Donald Trump is consideringwithdrawing American troops from Germany and redeploying them to Hungary, The Telegraph reported on Friday, citing a person close to the White House.

 

The US has more than 35,000 personnel stationed in dozens of bases in Germany. The NATO member also hosts American nuclear weapons.

 

Trump reportedly could remove the troops or move them elsewhere, as his administration has split with many of its allies in Europe over how to deal with Russia and resolve the Ukraine conflict. While the US president stressed the need to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible and blamed Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky for the hostilities, the UK and many EU members reaffirmed their commitment to back Kiev.

 

“Trump is angry that they [Europe] appear to be pushing for war,”a source told The Telegraph.

 

US national security spokesman Brian Hughes told the newspaper that “while no specific announcement is imminent, the US military is always considering the redeployment of troops around the world to best address current threats to our interests.”

 

Trump has repeatedly accused Germany of not spending enough on its own defense, while his adviser, tech billionaire Elon Musk, openly endorsed the opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the recent parliamentary election. Vice President J.D. Vance also ruffled feathers last month when he criticized Germany’s free speech laws during a high-profile conference in Munich.

The Russian military has taken out a rare resupply vehicle for the US-supplied system, footage released by the military shows

 

The Russian military has destroyed a rare Ukrainian US-supplied HIMARS resupply vehicle in a ballistic missile strike, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said on Saturday.

 

Surveillance drone footage released by the Russian military shows the resupply vehicle maneuvering into a dugout concealed in a wooded strip between two fields. The position was discovered in the vicinity of the village of Novonikolayevka, located some 26km to the east of the Ukrainian city of Nikolayev, the military noted.

 

The location was hit with a ballistic missile fired by an Iskander-M system shortly after the vehicle was discovered. The missile appeared to have featured a high-explosive warhead rigged for airburst, footage suggests, and the munition seemingly scored a direct hit on the dugout. Up to ten Ukrainian servicemen were killed by the strike, the ministry said.

 

The destroyed loader appears to belong to the US-manufactured Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), a large series of military vehicles based upon a common chassis, yet varying by mission and payload. The resupply vehicle features an armored cab and a distinctive folding cargo crane in its rear, footage shows.

 

Kiev has been receiving M142 HIMARS and its heavier tracked cousin, the M270 MLRS, as well as derivatives of those systems, since mid-2022. Initially touted as the ultimate high-precision tool to strike high-value Russian assets deep in the rear, the launchers have been routinely used in indiscriminate attacks on purely civilian targets during the conflict.

 

The ongoing hostilities in Russia’s Kursk Region, where Kiev mounted an incursion last August, have taken a heavy toll on the HIMARS, with at least 13 units of the M142 and seven of the M270 MLRS destroyed in the area, according to the latest Russian estimates.

The undated photos did not disclose the shipyard’s location, and the report lacked specific details about the vessel but mentioned that Kim was briefed on the construction process.

 

Pyongyang has long sought to introduce nuclear-powered submarines to its fleet as part of efforts to counter what it sees as military threats from the US and its regional allies.

 

According to the Nuclear Threat Initiative,North Korea maintains one of the world’s largest submarine fleets, estimated at 70 to 90 vessels. However,many experts arguethatmost of its submarines are outdated and may not be fully operational or capable of launching missiles.

Moon Keun-sik, a South Korean submarine expert, told AP that the newly revealed submarine appears to be a 6,000-ton or 7,000-ton vessel capable of carrying around ten missiles. He suggested that the use of the term ‘strategic guided missiles’ in the submarine’s description likely indicates that the vessel is designed to carry nuclear-capable weapons. If deployed, he claimed, it “would be absolutely threatening to [South Korea] and the US.”

 

Kim’s visit to the shipyard comes days before annual military drills between theUS and South Korea, which are set to begin on Monday. Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned the exercises, viewing them as rehearsals for an invasion.

Like critics of offshore wind, opponents of wind farms on land say the projects ruin the the countryside, impact historic sites and harm wildlife.

 

As was expected, Trump issued a moratorium on offshore wind lease sales upon taking office. Critics of offshore wind in coastal communities organized a national network during the Biden administration, which they say ignored their concerns about impacts to whales and other marine wildlife, the viewshed and electricity rates. Ironically, while most of them are in blue states that voted for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Trump’s opposition to offshore wind gave them hope their concerns might be heard.

 

Likewise, the land-based wind industry also has plenty of critics forming community opposition groups who feel their concerns went unheard during the Biden era. The Albany County Conservancy (ACC) in Wyoming last month sent letters to Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and Attorney General Pam Bondi requesting that federal permitting processes be suspended for a wind project near Laramie, Wyoming.

 

Flipping a switch

Historically, coal mining has provided the bulk of Wyoming’s tax revenues. As coal demand declines, driven primarily by a switch to natural gas, Wyoming has sought to tap into the subsidies that often attach to renewable energy projects.

 

For critics living in the wind belts of southern Wyoming — where 20 wind projects are proposed across the state in addition to those currently operating — are a major concern. Besides the impacts to the views of Wyoming’s open plains and historic sites, say the wind industry is industrializing migratory routes of golden eagles. The ACC filed a petition in the U.S. District Court of Wyoming challenging the federal approval of the Rail Tie project, an approximately 160-turbine project planned for southeastern Albany County, and they’re considering a similar petition against the Two Rivers Wind Project.

 

Anne Brande, executive director of the Albany County Conservancy, told Just the News that she is personally seeing the impacts on wildlife of wind energy in Wyoming. She goes for walks in the Boulder Ridge area of the Laramie Mountains south of Laramie where the Rail Tie wind project is planned, and she said she’s seen a rapid decline in the population of eagles.

 

“I go back like 15 or 20 years, and there'd be a lot more bird activity. Gosh, it is like somebody flipped a switch,” Brande said.

 

Mike Lockhart, a former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist, has been using satellite tags to track the eagles since 2014. According to the petition against Rail Tie, Lockhart’s research found that 82% of the documented eagle deaths were human caused and 43.5% of the known deaths of tagged eagles were caused by wind turbines. This is more than vehicle collisions, hunting and electrocutions combined.

 

Christi Shafer, external relations and communications for Repsol, the developer of Wind Tie, told Just the News that, although the company isn't named on the ACC's petition, it's aware of it and continuing to monitor it closely.

 

"Repsol Renewables North America is proud to operate in Wyoming, where we are advancing our Rail Tie Wind Project safely and responsibly. We are committed to providing sustainable energy that benefits people and the planet, and we are confident that the approvals in place for our project meet or exceed the relevant regulatory requirements," Shafer said.

IDF attacks terrorists collecting Israeli drone flown into Gaza

An Israeli Air Force craft on Saturday struck several Palestinian suspects who had collected a drone flown from Israeli territory into the southern Gaza Strip overnight.

The drone was tracked throughout its flight, according to the military.

 

On Thursday, an IAF craft attacked a group of Palestinian terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip who had planted an explosive device near troops.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces fired on an individual in southern Gaza who had approached them, posing an immediate threat.

 

A day earlier, IDF troops fired on a motorboat off the southern Gaza coast near Khan Yunis after it failed to heed warning shots.

The vessel had “violated security restrictions in the area and posed a threat,” the army stated, adding, “The IDF remains committed to neutralizing any threats to the safety of Israeli citizens and its forces.”

 

The first, 42-day phase of the ceasefire with Hamas, which went into effect on Jan. 19, expired last Saturday, after the terrorist organization rejected a U.S. proposal, to which Jerusalem agreed, to extend the truce for 50 days.

Jerusalem subsequently announced it had suspended all humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that no goods or supplies would enter Gaza until further notice, reaffirming that Israel will not agree to extend the ceasefire indefinitely without the release of hostages.

Federal, Quebec prisons to launch pilot project on jamming cellphone, drone signals

Ottawa has approved a pilot project to block cellphone and drone signals in federal and Quebec provincial prisons.

Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne says in a media statement the unauthorized use of drones and cell phones in prisons is a serious threat to the safety and security of Canadians.

 

Champagne says he has approved a legal exemption to allow the use of radiofrequency jammers, which block wireless communication and render the devices unusable.

The order applies to federal prisons across Canada and provincial prisons in Quebec.

 

Champagne says the pilot project will offer a “controlled opportunity” to test the technology and set an example for other correctional facilities that may be considering using jammers in the future.

The Correctional Service of Canada said last year it was taking steps to combat the “evolving threat” of drones that drop contraband into prisons, but that it lacked the legal authority to use drone-jamming technology.

Not so easy to post it all atm,

But i do 'believe' that a more modern technological version of smelting (vacuum electric gas injection) could do the job with far less (if any) anthracite. I do use anthracite, it is beautiful stuff AND amazingly clean. But i do think there are some advances in technology that could greatly update the process in cleaning recycled metals.

 

I just can't stand the idea of building and operating and experimenting on my private land… and some shitbag Government fuckhead walks up and starts telling me ANYTHING. I only fear, for what i might do to them.

DeWine on Ohio mystery drones: 'This is something that Congress has to take up'

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine addressed the ongoing mystery surrounding drone sightings in multiple counties where farms are dealing with an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu.

The governor said he and other leaders discussed the drones reported over Mercer and Darke counties in western Ohio, but still had no more answers than when the reports of drones first peaked. Now, he's calling on Congress to take action.

 

In late January, Mercer County Sheriff Doug Timmerman reported a "significant" number of sightings in his county and contacted other government agencies.

"We have asked several state and federal agencies if any government group would have been flying drones, and at this point, the answer has been no," Timmerman said.

"That’s not to say we have spoken with all state and federal agencies. We have worked closely with many politicians at the state and federal level, and many of them are inquiring about this as well. To my knowledge, they have all been told 'no.'"

 

ABC 6 has learned that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has a drone program in development, but it has not yet been deployed.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) told ABC 6 that it does not use drones, and the USDA confirmed that the drones spotted in Ohio did not belong to them.

This would rule out the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for the surveillance and tracking of infectious disease in birds using thermal imaging and other emerging techniques.

Timmerman pointed out that the county's concentration of chicken and egg farms significantly increases the chances of a drone being spotted near a farm.

During an update on the bird flu this week, DeWine responded to a reporter's question about the sightings.

"I don’t know any more than you do," he said. "I hear the same things. I’ve talked to the sheriff, and I’ve talked to some of the producers here who have reported all the drone sightings they’ve seen."

"The technology of drones, the advancement of drones—this is something that Congress has to take up," DeWine said.

"This would be a good opportunity for Congress to hold hearings from a security point of view."

 

Recent "Mystery Drone" Flaps

Langley AFB, March 2024: Large drones were spotted over the base for weeks. Air Force Gen. Mark Kelly told The Wall Street Journal that at least one of the drones was “roughly 20 feet long and flying at more than 100 miles an hour, at an altitude of roughly 3,000 to 4,000 feet.” Other drones followed, one by one, sounding in the distance like a parade of lawnmowers.

New Jersey Drone Sightings, November and December 2024: Large drones were reported over military and civilian areas for several weeks. The White House later announced that the aircraft had FAA approval to fly.

Wright-Patterson AFB Airspace Shutdown, December 2024: The base shut down its airspace after reporting sightings of multiple drones in the vicinity. The airspace remained closed for four hours between Dec. 13 and Dec. 14.

Indiana Sightings Near Poultry Farms, December 2024: Indiana's Department of Homeland Security issued a warning to the public after multiple drone reports near poultry farms, including one that landed on a building.

IDHS warned recreational pilots that they risk spreading avian influenza and also cautioned citizens against shooting down unidentified aircraft. To date, there has been no explanation for the sightings.

A new American empire: Trump, Russia, and the end of globalism

The US is resetting, but not how the world expected

Donald Trump’s return to the White House is shaping up to be nothing short of a political revolution. The new administration is rapidly dismantling the old order, purging the ruling elite, reshaping both domestic and foreign policy, and cementing changes that will be difficult to reverse – even if his opponents regain power in future elections.

 

For Trump, as for all revolutionaries, the priority is to break the existing system and consolidate radical transformations. Many of the principles that guided US policy for decades – sometimes for over a century – are being deliberately discarded. Washington’s global strategy, long built on expansive military, diplomatic, and financial influence, is being rewritten to serve Trump’s domestic political needs.

 

The end of the American liberal empire

For the past 100 years, the US has functioned as a global empire. Unlike traditional empires built on territorial expansion, the American empire extended its reach through financial dominance, military alliances, and ideological influence. This model, however, has become increasingly unsustainable. Since the late 1990s, the costs of maintaining global hegemony have exceeded the benefits, fueling discontent both at home and abroad.

 

=Trump and his allies seek to end this ‘liberal empire’ and return America to a more self-reliant, mercantilist model– one reminiscent of the late 19th and early 20th centuries under President William McKinley. Trump has openly praised this era, viewing it as the golden age of US prosperity,before the country took on the burdens of global leadership.

 

Under this vision, America will reduce unproductive foreign expenditures and refocus on its natural advantages: Vast resources, an advanced industrial base,and the world’s most valuable consumer market. Rather than policing the world, Washington will wield its economic power more aggressively to secure trade advantages. However, the transition to this model carries significant risks, particularly in a highly globalized economy.

 

A shift in global strategy

Trump’s policies are driven by domestic concerns but will have major implications abroad.His administration is systematically dismantling key institutions of the old order, including those that irritated Moscow. For instance, USAID – a major vehicle for American influence in the post-Soviet space – has been gutted. Ironically, Trump had more motivation to destroy USAID than even Russian President Vladimir Putin, given that its resources had been repurposed for domestic political use by Trump’s rivals.

 

If the US abandons its liberal empire model, many sources of tension with Russia will disappear. Historically, Moscow and Washington had relatively stable relations throughout the 19th century. If Trump’s America reverts to a more isolationist approach, Russia will no longer be a primary target of US interference. The main friction point will likely be the Arctic, where both nations have strategic interests.

 

China, however, remains Trump’s top adversary. Beijing’s state-led economic expansion is fundamentally at odds with Trump’s mercantilist vision. Unlike Biden, who sought to counter China through alliances, Trump is willing to go it alone – potentially weakening Western unity in the process. His administration is expected to escalate economic and technological warfare against Beijing, even if it means alienating European allies.

 

Europe’s strategic uncertainty

One of Trump’s most disruptive moves has been his open hostility toward the EU.His vice president, J.D. Vance, recently delivered a speech in Munich that amounted to direct interference in European politics, signaling support for right-wing nationalist movements that challenge the EU’s authority.

 

This shift is forcing Europe into an uncomfortable position. For years, China has viewed Western Europe as an ‘alternative West’ with which it could engage economically without the same level of confrontation it faces with the US.Trump’s approach could accelerate EU-Chinese ties, especially if Western European leaders feel abandoned by Washington.

 

There are already signs that European policymakers may loosen restrictions on Chinese investments, particularly in critical industries such as semiconductors. At the same time,the ambitions of some Europeans for NATO expansion into the Indo-Pacific may falter, as the bloc struggles to define its new role in a post-globalist US strategy.

Russia and China: A changing relationship

For years, Washington fantasized about splitting Russia and China apart. But Trump’s new approach is unlikely to achieve this goal. The Russia-China partnership is built on strong fundamentals: A massive shared border, complementary economies, and a shared interest in countering Western dominance.

 

If anything, the shifting geopolitical landscape could push Russia into a position similar to that of China in the early 2000s –focusing on economic development while maintaining strategic flexibility. Moscow may reduce its efforts to actively undermine the USand instead concentrate on strengthening its economic and security ties with Beijing.

 

China, meanwhile, will bear the brunt of Trump’s new American empire. The US will no longer rely on alliances to contain Beijing but will use direct economic and military pressure. While this may make life more difficult for China, it does not necessarily mean the US will succeed. China has been preparing for economic decoupling for years, and Beijing may find opportunities in a more divided Western world.

 

The road ahead

Trump’s return marks a fundamental shift in global power dynamics.The US is moving away from being a liberal empire and toward a more transactional, power-based foreign policy. For Russia, this means fewer ideological conflicts with Washington but continued competition in key areas like the Arctic.

 

For China, Trump’s policies present a direct challenge. The question is whether Beijing can adapt to a world where the US is no longer just containing it but actively trying to roll back its economic influence.

 

For Western Europe, the picture is bleak. The EU is losing its privileged status as America’s primary partner and is being forced to fend for itself. Whether it can navigate this new reality remains to be seen.

 

One thing is certain:The world is entering a period of profound transformation, and the old rules no longer apply. Trump’s America is rewriting the playbook, and therest of the world will have to adjust accordingly.

When a 'mysterious light' caused a 'major UFO scare' in Hull, UK

A "mysterious green light caused a major UFO scare" in Hull and the East Riding more than 50 years ago - and the explanation was a little bit unusual too.

Even the police were bemused by the "greeny-white oval object" that was spotted in the northerly sky in September 1971.

The Hull Daily Mail received reports of UFO sightings from all over the area including in Hull, North Cave and Beverley.

 

One man even claimed the unusual object followed the number 35 bus into Hull from Bransholme.

He said: "I could see this thing - it was green and round - following the bus. Every time the bus stopped to pick up passengers, the object stopped as well.

"People on Bransholme and round Noddle Hill Way were all standing looking at it."

 

Meanwhile, police in Withernsea received a message through Spurn Coastguards that aircraft from RAF Manby had reported seeing a large green object in the sky near Patrington.

It was seen moving slowly out to sea before disappearing and was described as being similar in appearance to vapour trails left by aircraft, only green.

 

Most witnesses described the phenomenon as being roughly in visible size to the Moon. There were also sightings of a "bright object travelling westwards" in Glasgow along with other reports in southern England.

However, a helicopter crew provided an explanation. The chopper was in the air practising a night drill when the crew spotted the UFO and decided to fly towards it.

Despite the approach, the object "did not scoot off into the heavens or shoot the helicopter down with mysterious rays", the Mail reported.

 

Instead, it was described as "simply a natural phenomenon which occurs from time to time". The explanation was that it was "a reflection of the Moon on layers of dust contained in mist patches".

Some might say that's the sort of thing the 'Men In Black' would say - like a UFO encounter in the 1997 movie being described as "swamp gas from a weather balloon trapped in a thermal pocket" that "refracted the light from Venus".

However, the strange sighting may have been somewhat similar to the occasional reports we have in our region of 'orange and red glowing' over the South Bank when there is increased flaring from flame stacks at oil refineries in northern Lincolnshire combined with low cloud reflecting the fiery light.

DHS Cancels TSA Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Dept of Homeland Security, led by Secretary Kristi Noem, has ended the collective bargaining agreement with the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA).

 

The TSA has approximately 47,000 employees represented by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). The Dept of Homeland Security is ending the union bargaining agreement, paving the way to streamline the TSA and eventually privatize airport screening.

 

Transportation Safety Officers (TSOs) are not happy with the decision by DHS and leftist politicians are obviously aligning themselves with the unionrepresentation. Anyone who has recently experienced TSA conduct in airports will likely attest to the need for accountability which is severely lacking due to union representation.

 

MSM – The Department of Homeland Security said Friday it is ending the collective bargaining agreement with the union representing thousands of frontline workers with the Transportation Security Administration, a decision the TSA union called an “unprovoked attack.”

 

In announcing the decision, DHS criticized the union — which represents worker responsible for screening airline passengers — claiming TSA employs more people working full-time on union issues than those “performing screening functions at 86% of our airports.”

Wild Videos Of Exploding SpaceX Rocket Spark UFO Concerns In Florida

Numerous people in Florida posted videos to social media on Thursday wondering if UFOs were attacking after a SpaceX rocket exploded again over the Gulf of Mexico.

The rocket also disrupted air traffic in Florida as flights into Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and Orlando airports were shut down due to “falling space debris.”

 

“Anyone know what this is? I just saw this. At first it looked like an airplane behind the clouds and then it just started getting bigger and bigger?”

someone in Sarasota, Florida asked on Reddit alongside one video showing what appears to be, as they called it, a “mysterious white apparition.”

 

That, however, was one the least interesting videos to be captured Thursday evening by residents of Florida and the Caribbean. “Over West Palm Beach 6:40 pm. UFO? Space Debris?” another person asked on X (Twitter) alongside a similar video.

Another resident of Sarasota also captured footage of the “mysterious white apparition” and said people were asking them similar questions.

“Saw @SpaceX Starship explode from our softball field in Sarasota, FL. Some parents paused and thought it was a UFO,” they wrote.

 

“I have no idea what I just saw while walking my dog?!” another person wrote alongside their view of the SpaceX rocket debris. “Anyone wanna chime in on what this might be?

I watched it continue on its trajectory until it disappeared behind the tree line. The spiraling smoke cloud eventually dissipated and it continued onward as a bright orb surrounded by those sparkling lights around it.

The video I captured doesn’t do justice to what I witnessed.”

 

In the Caribbean, the videos were even more striking. “#SpaceX #Starship we are taking cover here in the Ragged Islands, Bahamas. Cross your fingers for us!” one person wrote.

“Someone said SpaceX is the best fireworks company,” another person who was on the water joked.

“Can confirm we did lose contact with the ship. Unfortunately, this happened last time too,” Dan Huot, SpaceX communications manager, said during the livestream of the launch after the SpaceX rocket exploded.

 

Hout would later add, “We’ve got a lot of measures in place, like debris response areas, where we coordinate very closely with air traffic control.

We have a lot of measures put (in place) before we ever launch a rocket to make sure that we’re keeping the public safe. Those worked last time and they’re actively in work right now.”

 

According to a statement from SpaceX, “Prior to the end of the ascent burn, an energetic event in the aft portion of Starship resulted in the loss of several Raptor engines.

This in turn led to a loss of attitude control and ultimately a loss of communications with Starship. Final contact with Starship came approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds after liftoff.”

 

The statement also specified that “any surviving debris would have fallen within the pre-planned Debris Response Area.

There are no toxic materials present in the debris and no significant impacts expected to occur to marine species or water quality.”

UK Lifts Sanctions On Jolani Regime As His Army Barrel-Bombs Civilians

 

The UK has lifted sanctions on 24 Syrian entities, including the central bank, in a landmark move that could be a turning point for Syria's devastated economy. Britain has become the first country to unfreeze all assets of the Central Bank of Syria.

 

The state airline and state-owned oil companies are amongst other previously sanctioned entities removed from the sanctions list on Thursday afternoon. "This approach underscores our commitment to help the people of Syria rebuild their country and economy, including through support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition process," a UK government spokesperson said. "We will continue to judge Syria’s interim authorities by their actions, not their words."

 

The new Syrian government inherited a daunting economic crisis from Bashar al-Assad's government, which was toppled in December.

 

Government corruption, devastating conflict and crippling international sanctions all contributed to wrecking Syria's economy under Assad. According to the UN, nine out of 10 Syrians live in poverty.

 

On December 17, interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa [al-Qaeda name: Abu Mohammad al-Jolani] urged Britain and other countries to lift all the sanctions that had been imposed on the country under Assad.

 

"They should lift all restrictions which were imposed on the flogger and the victim. The flogger is gone now. This issue is not up for negotiation," he said.

 

'Desperately needs a boost'

 

The UK's major policy shift could bring new opportunities for Syria, if other nations follow suit. Western countries lifting sanctions could help stabilise the Syrian economy and facilitate foreign investment.

 

The Syrian government is led by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which remains a proscribed terrorist organization in the UK, as well as in the US. Western countries have lifted some sanctions, but have made sanctions relief contingent on political reforms.

It's all about control

 

Ian Freeman is sitting in a cage for the “crime” of helping people use their own money. A peaceful advocate for financial sovereignty and longtime libertarian radio host, Freeman was targeted by the state for daring to operate outside its rigged, controlled financial system. He joins a growing list of political prisoners like Roger Ver and countless others who have been railroaded simply for providing alternatives to the government’s monetary monopoly.

 

His crime? Running an unlicensed bitcoin exchange business—meaning he helped people opt out of the financial surveillance grid without cutting the government in on the deal. For this, he was sentenced to eight years in prison and has been ordered to pay $3.5 million in restitution to so-called “victims” who, according to Fox News, fell prey to online scams that had nothing to do with Freeman himself.

 

Much like Roger Ver, whose legal battle has become a warning shot against crypto dissidents, Freeman was made an example of. The state’s message is clear: you can’t be trusted to make your own financial choices without the government’s approval. And if you try to help others escape the banking cartel’s control, they will hunt you down.

 

A Multi-Year Federal Manhunt for a Man Who Helped People Use Bitcoin

Freeman’s persecution began with a five-year, multi-agency investigation, culminating in a pre-dawn SWAT raid on his home in 2021. As Reason Magazine reported, armed agents stormed his residence, throwing grenades, smashing windows, and seizing his assets—all because he failed to ask the state’s permission to exchange bitcoin.

 

Despite never knowingly harming anyone, he was convicted on bogus money laundering charges, accused of allowing scammers to use his bitcoin services. The government even admitted in court that Freeman was not conspiring with fraudsters—yet still painted him as responsible.

 

Freeman had implemented his own "Know Your Customer" (KYC) safeguards, often requiring photo IDs, handwritten notes verifying transactions, and phone interviews. But rather than acknowledging this, the feds used his own records against him, twisting his attempts at due diligence into evidence for his conviction.

 

This is lawfare at its finest—punishing a man not for committing a crime, but for daring to exist outside the state’s financial control.
