What the Chinese (w/ their cohorts primarily in the DEM party) are doing in America, along with physically attacking our citizens through drug addiction, supporting drug & human trafficking cartels, attacking us economically by manipulating markets and denying us access to minerals, and increasing their control of the high seas could be devastating to America’s future.

Supreme Court Backs Trump on Deportations Under Alien Enemies Act

The U.S. Supreme Court handed Donald Trump a victory on Monday by letting him use a 1798 law that historically has been employed only in wartime to swiftly deport alleged Venezuelan gang members as part of the Republican president's hardline approach to immigration.

 

The court granted the administration's request to lift Washington-based U.S. Judge James Boasberg's March 15 order that had temporarily blocked the summary deportations under Trump's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act while litigation in the case continues.

 

Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act on March 15 to swiftly deport the alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang, attempting to speed up removals with a law best known for its use to intern Japanese, Italian and German immigrants during World War Two.

 

In a legal challenge handled by the American Civil Liberties Union, a group of Venezuelan men in the custody of U.S. immigration authorities on the same day sued on behalf of themselves and others similarly situated, seeking to block the deportations. They argued, among other things, that Trump's order exceeded his powers because the Alien Enemies Act authorizes removals only when war has been declared or the United States has been invaded.

 

The Alien Enemies Act authorizes the president to deport, detain or place restrictions on individuals whose primary allegiance is to a foreign power and who might pose a national security risk in wartime.

 

Boasberg, an appointee of Democratic President Barack Obama, temporarily blocked the deportations. But Trump's administration allowed two planes already in the air to continue to El Salvador where American officials handed 238 Venezuelan men over to Salvadoran authorities to be placed in the Central American country's "Terrorism Confinement Center."

 

The judge also has scrutinized whether the Trump administration violated his order by failing to return the deportation flights after his order was issued. Justice Department lawyers said the flights had left U.S. airspace by the time Boasberg issued a written order and thus were not required to return. They dismissed the weight of Boasberg's spoken order during a hearing two hours earlier calling for any planes carrying deportees to be turned around.

 

Trump's administration has argued that Boasberg's temporary ban encroached on presidential authority to make national security decisions.

 

On March 18, Trump called for Boasberg's impeachment by Congress - a process that could remove him from the bench - drawing a rebuke from the U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts. Trump on social media called Boasberg, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2011 in a bipartisan 96-0 vote, a "Radical Left Lunatic" and a "troublemaker and agitator."

 

The D.C. Circuit upheld Boasberg's order after holding a contentious hearing that involved heated language. Judge Patricia Millett told Justice Department lawyer Drew Ensign that "Nazis got better treatment under the Alien Enemies Act than has happened here." An indignant Vatican took the article more as a calculated affront than a diplomatic gesture. The friction broke into the open on Wednesday as Mr. Pompeo arrived in Rome and met with prelates and others who are hostile to Pope Francis, while the Vatican denied him a meeting with the pontiff and rebuffed his efforts to derail the deal with China.

Scientists have reportedly genetically engineered dire wolves back into existence despite them being extinct for over 10,000 years.

 

A lengthy profile in TIME announced the scientific breakthrough on Monday with an expressed hope that the technology and methods used by Colossal Biosciences could potentially revive the woolly mammoth or preserve currently endangered species like the red wolf in North America or the quoll (a marsupial) in Australia.

 

The dire wolves went extinct in North America roughly 10,000 years ago from what scientists believe was the animal’s distinct hunting method of preying on larger animals as opposed to a more generalized hunting practice of smaller prey. According to Colossal’s chief scientist, Beth Shapiro, resurrecting the dire wolves involved taking blood cells from the living gray wolf and using gene editing technology (CRISPR) to genetically modify the cells in 20 different sites. This genetic material was then transferred to an egg cell from a domestic dog to create embryos that were then transferred to surrogates. The dire wolf pups gestated for 62 days with little complication before birth.

 

“We elected to put both pups with the surrogate who was displaying the best maternal instincts,” said Matt James, the company’s chief animal officer. “That reintroduction occurred just about two or so hours after birth, and she immediately began caring for them and allowing them to nurse.”

 

“The idea that we could just take a vial of blood, isolate EPCs, culture them, and clone from them, and they have a pretty high cloning efficiency, we think it’s a game changer,” said George Church, Colossal co-founder and professor of genetics at both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

 

The dire wolves have since been housed on a 2,000-acre ecological preserve at an undisclosed location somewhere in the United States.

Migrants who were temporarily allowed to live in the United States by using a Biden-era online appointment app have been told to leave the country “immediately,” officials said Monday. It was unclear how many beneficiaries would be affected.

 

More than 900,000 people were allowed in the country using the CBP One app since January 2023. They were generally allowed to remain in the United States for two years with authorization to work under a presidential authority called parole.

 

“Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security,” the Department of Homeland Security media affairs unit said in response to questions.

 

Authorities confirmed termination notices were sent to CBP One beneficiaries but did not say how many. They were urged to voluntary self-deport using the same app they entered on, which has been renamed CBP Home.

 

“It’s time for you to abandon the United States," the Department of Homeland Security wrote to a Honduran family that entered the U.S. at the end of last year. The Associated Press reviewed the email received Sunday.

 

Others shared the same email on social media platforms.

 

Al Otro Lado, a nonprofit organization that provides legal aid to migrants, said some who received the revocation letters are from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.

 

CBP One was a cornerstone of the Biden administration's strategy to create and expand legal pathways to enter the United States in an attempt to discourage illegal border crossings. By the end of December, 936,500 people had been allowed to enter with CBP One appointments at border crossings with Mexico. President Donald Trump ended CBP One for new entrants on his first day in office, stranding thousands in Mexico who had appointments into early February.

 

Trump has ended and revoked temporary status for many who benefited under Biden’s policies. Homeland Security said Monday that Biden’s use of parole authority — more than any president since it was created in 1952 — “further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history.”

 

Homeland Security said last month that it was revoking another form of parole for 532,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela who flew to the country at their own expense with a financial sponsor. It ends April 24.

 

The Trump administration has also announced an end to Temporary Protected Status for 600,000 Venezuelans and about 500,00 Haitians, though a federal judge temporarily put that on hold, including for about 350,000 Venezuelans who had been scheduled to lose TPS on Monday. TPS is granted in 18-month increments to people already in the U.S. whose countries are deemed unsafe for return due to natural disaster or civil strife.

Belarus busts largest-ever explosive contraband bound for Russia – officials

A van packed with 580 kg of material known to be used by terrorists has been intercepted at the border with Poland, according to local security

The Belarusian customs service has announced the interception of a van secretly transporting 580kg of highly dangerous explosive material destined for Russia.

 

The vehicle, registered in Moldova, raised suspicions while crossing the border from Poland into the Belarusian city of Brest. Subsequent inspections confirmed an attempt at smuggling, the State Customs Committee said on Sunday.

 

Local checkpoint chief Sergey Yakuta described the volume of explosives — concealed beneath dense siding and foul-smelling grease designed to mislead sniffer dogs — as the largest ever seized by customs agents in a single operation.

 

A lab analysis identified thesubstance as pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), a difficult-to-detect compound favored by terrorists and intelligence agencies alike. Notably, the substance was reportedly used by Israel in its pager plot targeting Hezbollah last year.

 

Belarusian officials identified the driver as a 41-year-old citizen of Belarus, later named by national media as Yevgeny Manko, a commercial hauler who frequently makes cross-border trips.

 

Manko said he was unaware of the illicit cargo, claiming he had been duped into driving someone else’s vehicle by an Estonian business acquaintance. “It’s terrible. I got played. They didn’t think for a moment about what would happen to me, my family, and others,” he stated.

 

The smuggling attempt was thwarted last Wednesday, the report added.

 

Belarus maintains a military alliance and strong trade relations with Russia, while Poland and Estonia have supported Ukraine during its conflict with Moscow.

 

Russian officials have accused Ukraine of orchestrating several terrorist attacks utilizing explosives. A high-profile incident occurred in 2022 when a truck carrying over 20 tons of disguised explosives detonated while crossing the Crimean Bridge, resulting in the deaths of the driver and four civilians in a nearby vehicle.

 

The Ukrainian military intelligence agency HUR,which Moscow implicated in the bridge bombing, published a recruitment ad on Tuesday seeking “couriers” to deliver “presents to the enemy.”

South Korea's military fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers crossed the rivals' tense border Tuesday, South Korean officials said.

 

South Korea's military said in a statement that about 10 North Korean soldiers returned to the North after South Korea made warning broadcasts and fired warning shots. It said the North Korean soldiers violated the military demarcation line at the eastern section of the border at 5 p.m.

 

South Korea's military said it is closely monitoring North Korean activities.

 

Bloodshed and violent confrontations have occasionally occurred at the Koreas' heavily fortified border, called the Demilitarized Zone. But when North Korean troops briefly violated the border in June last year, it didn't escalate into a major source of tensions as South Korean officials assessed the soldiers didn't deliberately commit the border intrusion.

 

The motive for Tuesday's border crossing by North Korean soldiers was not immediately clear.

 

Animosities between the Koreas are running high now as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un continues to flaunt his military nuclear capabilities and align with Russia over President Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine. Kim is also ignoring calls by Seoul and Washington to resume denuclearization negotiations.

 

Since his Jan. 20 inauguration, President Donald Trump has said he would reach out to Kim again to revive diplomacy. North Korea has not responded to Trump's remarks and says U.S. hostilities against it have deepened since Trump's inauguration.

 

South Korea, meanwhile, is experiencing a leadership vacuum after the ouster of President Yoon Suk Yeol last week over his ill-fated imposition of martial law.

The student visas of five individuals currently attending or recently graduated from Harvard University have been revoked, according to Harvard.

 

It's one of more than a dozen higher education institutions that is actively tracking and reporting the number of affiliated people who have been targeted by President Donald Trump's administration in recent weeks.

 

These incidents are part of what appears to be mass targeting of international students by Trump's administration over alleged violations of their visa or green card conditions, ranging from minor legal infractions to participating in demonstrations. In other cases, the reason for the revocation is unknown or has not been provided by the administration.

 

Since the beginning of Trump's second term, the State Department has revoked over 300 student visas nationwide, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters on March 27.

Prince, according to sources with knowledge of his activities, has been working as a C.I.A. asset: in a word, as a spy. By focusing so intently on Blackwater, Congress and the press overlooked the elephant in the room. Prince wasn’t merely a contractor; he was, insiders say, a full-blown asset. Three sources with direct knowledge of the relationship say that the C.I.A.’s National Resources Division recruited Prince in 2004 to join a secret network of American citizens with special skills or unusual access to targets of interest. As assets go, Prince would have been quite a catch. He had more cash, transport, matériel, and personnel at his disposal than almost anyone Langley would have run in its 62-year history.

 

The C.I.A. won’t comment further on such assertions, but Prince himself is slightly more forthcoming. “I was looking at creating a small, focused capability,” he says, “just like Donovan did years ago”—the reference being to William “Wild Bill” Donovan, who, in World War II, served as the head of the Office of Strategic Services, the precursor of the modern C.I.A. (Prince’s youngest son, Charles Donovan—the one who fell into the pool—is named after Wild Bill.) Two sources familiar with the arrangement say that Prince’s handlers obtained provisional operational approval from senior management to recruit Prince and later generated a “201 file,” which would have put him on the agency’s books as a vetted asset. …

Worth considering that the CIA executive director appointed by Porter Goss in 2004, Kyle Dusty Foggo, is now serving a prison term for throwing CIA contracts to his friend contractor Brent Wilkes. Baltic NATO member could back attacks on civilian shipping – media

Estonian lawmakers are lifting any restrictions amid tension with Russia and cable damage incidents in the Baltic Sea

 

Estonia’s parliament is set to vote on a bill that would allow its military to sink civilian vessels found to pose a national security threat, state broadcaster ERR reported on Tuesday.

 

The proposal comes amid heightened tensions with Russia and widespread suspicion it orchestrated the sabotage of undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, speculation Moscow has vehemently rejected.

 

The legislation – the final reading of which will take place on Wednesday, – would give theEstonian Defense Forces authority to use maximum force in the country’s national watersand its exclusive economic zone, to protect critical infrastructure, ports, facilities and vessels.

 

Firing on, and sinking a civilian craft would be permissibleif potential damage is deemed less than that accruing if the target vessel is allowed continue. (That sounds insane!)

 

Under the bill, military and naval commanders would be required to notify the vessel’s owner, or its flag state,only after the use of force.

 

Kalev Stoicescu, the chair of the Estonian parliamentary defense committee, has drawn comparisons to the 9/11 attacks but stressed that the law would not lead to ships being sunk for incidents such as cable damage.

 

Former commander of the Estonian Navy, Juri Saska, has warned thathostile actors might use civilian vessels to carry out attacks on the country, adding that he hoped that politicians would take responsibility for any potential incidents.

 

Estonia was one of the countries affected when a power cable connecting it to Finland was damaged in December. Western investigators have so farfailed to present any proofto substantiate widespread allegations that Russia orchestrated the incident. Moscow has denied any role, calling the speculation “absurd.”

 

Following the suspected sabotage, NATO ramped up its military presence in the Baltic Sea,prompting Moscow to warn that it will respond appropriately to any “violations” by NATO ships.

Hours later, China's Ministry of Commerce vowed to take "countermeasures" and said it "will fight to the end" of the trade war. Two top Chinese bloggers leaked some of those potential countermeasures on Tuesday.

 

A flurry of headlines overnight helped stabilize Asian equity markets. According to Goldman analyst Shubham Ghosh, some of those headlines included, "Consumption boost, leadership onshore willing to front-load stimulus, PBOC vowing sufficient funding, all adding up."

 

"Onshore A-shs had a much better price action where the start was slow and it gradually picked up momentum towards the close – National team support speculated as notably combined turnover of the ETFs favoured by them hit a massive 92 bn Yuan," Ghosh told clients.

 

We detailed overnight the commerce ministry's threat to take "countermeasures" to defend its "rights and interests" should Trump fire off another round of tariffs. One key line from the ministry should keep traders up at night:

The real problem is that the Supreme Court emphasized that every person named as an “alien enemy” under the AEA is entitled to judicial review. This is insane because it means that the judiciary will, once again, take unto itself the power to control foreign policy.

 

While this standard currently applies to the 18-20 million ordinary illegals that Biden let in (something no legislator or judge ever contemplated when immigration laws were passed or reviewed), it cannot possibly apply to the AEA, which is a question of foreign policy solely under the executive’s purview. (Sadly, though, Bondi’s DOJ actually gave the Supremes this opening, so part of the responsibility for this ludicrous holding is on her.)

 

And keep in mind that the AEA’s purpose is simply to send enemies back home, not to execute them or even imprison them. It just gives the president the power to repatriate people he, in his constitutional foreign policy discretion, believes are dangerous enemies. The only reason these Tren de Aragua guys are going to a prison in El Salvador is that Venezuela, as part of its predations against the U.S., is refusing to repatriate its own citizens.

 

The big fight now is going to be over detained Tren de Aragua members who claim to be younger than 14, the statutory limit in the Act. Since none have papers, there’s no way to know their ages. And while the Fifth Circuit probably won’t let this go by, it’s still an easy opening for leftist courts to say that bearded men with basso profundo voices are under 14 and must stay in America—and every man gets his day in court.

 

Many are celebrating, but I believe this is a bad decision.

Roscosmos and NASA discuss partner projects at Baikonur(VIDEO)

The meeting touched upon a brand new space port complex, the ISS, and the anniversary of the Soyuz-Apollo docking

 

Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov and NASA Associate Administrator for Space Operations Kenneth Bowersox have met in Kazakhstan to discuss joint projects, the Russian space agency has announced. The meeting took place on Monday at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, a Russian-operated spaceport in Kazakhstan.

 

According to a Roscosmos press release, the two officials reviewed several initiatives, including preparations for future launches from the new Baiterek Rocket Complex, a joint Russian-Kazakh effort designed to support the launch of the new Soyuz-5 rocket. Test launches are expected to begin by the end of the year.

 

The agenda also included ongoing cooperation between Roscosmos and NASA aboard the International Space Station, as well as plans to develop tourism in Baikonur. The discussion comes ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project – the first crewed spaceflight jointly conducted by the US and Soviet Union in 1975.NASA and Roscosmos are planning commemorative events, though no details have been released.

 

The meeting preceded Tuesday’s launch of the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft to transport Russian cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Aleksey Zubritsky and NASA astronaut Jonathan Kim to the ISS. They are scheduled toremain aboard the station for approximately eight months and return to Earth in December.

 

The launch marks the 80th anniversary of the Nazi defeat in World War II.The spacecraft was named Victory Rocket, and its carrier featured commemorative imagery marking the occasion.

 

Despite the Ukraine conflict and Western sanctions on Moscow, space cooperation between the US and Russia has remained intact. NASA and Roscosmos recently extended their cross-flight agreement to the ISS through 2026 and have collaborated continuously on station-related missions over the past three years. Monday’s meeting took place amid a thaw in relations amid renewed diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Musk wants Trump to cancel tariffs – WaPo

The tech mogul and government efficiency czar has reportedly appealed directly to the US president urging him to reconsider the levies

 

Elon Musk has made direct appeals to US President Donald Trump, urging him to reconsider his decision to impose steep tariffs on American trade partners, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday. According to the outlet,many business and tech leaders who supported Trump’s candidacy have also criticized the move, calling it overly aggressive.

 

Trump unveiled sweeping new tariffs on global imports last week, including a 34% duty on Chinese goods. In response, Beijing pledged to retaliate with a matching 34% tariff on American exports – prompting Trump to threaten an additional new 50% tariff.

 

Over the weekend, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk – who serves as Trump’s government efficiency czar – fired off a series of social media posts criticizing White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, a central architect of the president’s aggressive tariff strategy.

 

“A PhD in Econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing,” Musk wrote.

 

Musk also reportedly reached out to Trump personally. The attempted intervention has so far failed to yield results, two people familiar with the matter told the Washington Post.

 

As the head of Tesla, Musk has long viewed tariffs as harmful to the company’s goals, given that both the US and China serve as major manufacturing bases and key markets.

 

Many business leaders who supported Trump’s candidacy were also frustrated by their inability to influence the policy and suggested that a basic 10% rate combined with negotiations with other countries would have been sufficient, according to the Post.

 

People close to Musk reportedly made direct appeals to allies within the Trump administration, including Vice President J.D. Vanceand Musk himself, advocating for what they saw as more rational, pro-free-trade policies. (There is NO FREE TRADE IDIOT, only for Wall Street, they don’t get it)

 

One of Musk’s associates, investor Joe Lonsdale, posted on X that he had recently urged “friends in the administration” to reconsider,warning that tariffs would harm American companies more than Chinese ones.(They don’t care about the 70% citizens not in the market!)

 

Over the weekend, a group of business leaders began organizing an informal coalition to lobby members of the Trump administration for more moderate trade policies, one person familiar with the effort told the Post.

 

Trump has defended his actions, stating that “sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something,” and promised that jobs and investment would return to the United States, making it “wealthy like never before.”

 

(This is where we see the influence of China upon Musk, note, Tesla Leader was at a Chinese Industry Conference the other day when China was condemning Trump’s Tariffs. I hope to God PDJT didn’t tell Elon any secrets about China. Musk can be a real bully, he doesn’t see the dichotomy.)

Many reportedly fear the new levies and retaliatory measures from trade partners will harm American exporters

 

US officials are exploring ways to mitigate the potentially harmful effects of the sweeping tariffs announced by President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing sources in Washington.The talks are reportedly being held without Trump’s knowledge and reflect internal unease over his shift in trade policy.

 

Last week, Trump imposed a minimum 10% tariff on all imports and introduced “reciprocal”duties ranging from 11% to 50% on dozens of countries he accused of maintaining unfair trade imbalances. The new measures included an additional 34% duty on imports from China, on top of an existing 20% rate implemented earlier, and a 20% levy on goods from the EU, among others.

 

On Monday, Trump threatened to slap a further 50% tariff on all Chinese imports unless Beijing reverses the 34% hike it announced in response to the new US levies. A number of other countries have slammed Trump’s tariffs over the past few days and vowed to implement countermeasures.

 

According to Bloomberg, Trump administration officials fear that retaliatory tariffs will damage US exports, hurting American firms trying to sell goods abroad. Sources saiddiscussions are underway about a potential exporter tax credit, which would serve as a subsidy for US firms selling products and services overseas. The credit, which would require congressional approval, could be issued at the end of the year. (So none of the countries get their full tariff, they want Americans to pay the tariffs now.)

 

Officials are also reportedly weighing a credit for importers to shield US companies from rising costs when sourcing goods from countries affected by Trump’s tariffs. These measures would aim to soften the economic blow to both exporters and importers once the tariffs take full effect.

 

Sources told Bloomberg thatneither Trump norTreasury Secretary ScottBessent has been formally briefed on the deliberations, and the proposalshave yet to receive full backingfrom theadministration’s economic team.

 

A Treasury spokesperson confirmed the discussions but stressed thatany talk of “specific provisions” are “still early.” The spokesperson added thatany tax proposalsor initiativesBessentmay pursue would be alignedwith “his full support for President Trump’s America First Economic Agenda.” The White House declined to comment on the report.

 

Trump’s tariffs and the threat of retaliation have raised fears of a global trade war. Several investment banks have raised their recession risk forecasts for both the US and global economies over the past week. Stock markets have been rattled, with major indexes in the US, Europe, and Asia all trading lower the past three days.

 

Despite the criticism, Trump has defended the tariffs as essential to correcting trade imbalances. On Monday, he claimed on social media that the measures were working and delivering significant economic benefits to the US.

Trump's Tariff Policy Is NOT Good For Russia As Oil Prices Plunge

 

The oil market meltdown in recent days could pose risks to the Russian economy, Russia’s Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina said on Tuesday.

 

The escalation of the tariff wars could negatively affect Russia’s economy, TASS news agency quoted the governor as telling Russian lawmakers in parliament today.

 

“The main channel of influence may lie through fluctuations of oil prices, a decline of oil prices,” Nabiullina was quoted as saying.

 

“If the escalation of the tariff wars continues, this usually leads to a decline in global trade and the global economy and, possibly, demand for our energy resources. Therefore, there are risks here,” the central bank governor noted.

 

As the international oil benchmarks slumped by about $10 per barrel in just a few days, the price of Russia’s flagship Urals crude grade tumbled and is close to the $50 per barrel threshold for the first time in nearly two years.

 

As the price of the flagship Russian crude was in freefall in lockstep with the international benchmarks, the Kremlin commented on the oil market rout on Monday.

 

The situation on the global oil market is extremely turbulent, which is related to the U.S. decision to impose tariffs on the majority of countries, Russian news agency TASS quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying. The Russian authorities are keeping a close eye on the oil market selloff, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman added.

 

“We are monitoring closely the situation, which is currently extremely turbulent, tense and emotionally charged,” Peskov said at a press briefing.

 

The Russian authorities are doing everything possible to mitigate the fallout of the global situation on the Russian economy, he added.

German court sentences journalist for meme

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser sued over an image thatclaims she ‘hates freedom of expression’

A German district court has sentenced David Bendels, the editor-in-chief of the conservative publication Deutschland-Kurier, to a suspended seven-month prison term for defaming Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser through a satirical meme.

 

The controversial meme, posted on Deutschland-Kurier’s X account in February 2024, showsFaeser holding a sign altered to read: “I hate freedom of expression.” (That’s worse than the Clinton meme that put Mackey in jail! KEK)

 

The original photo featured the phrase “We Remember,” part of a Holocaust remembrance campaign. Faeser’s legal team filed a criminal complaint,which led to a fine and Monday’s sentencingby the Bamberg District Court in Upper Franconia, Bavaria.

 

The court found Bendels guilty under Section 188 of the German Criminal Code –a rarely invoked provision sometimes referred to as the ‘lese-majeste’ or ‘injured majesty’ law – which penalizes defamation of public officials, Deutschland-Kurier reported. (that sounds like it was for Kings and Queens, not politicians.)

 

Noting that Bendels had no prior criminal record,the court suspended the sentenceand placed him on two years’ probation. It alsoreportedly ordered him to issue a written apology to Faeser.

 

Bendels and his legal team havevowed to appeal the verdict, arguing that the meme was protected under the rights to freedom of expression and the press. EU denies ‘drone wall’ funding for member states – media

Estonia and Lithuania had reportedly sought financial support to militarize the bloc’s borders with Russia and Belarus

 

Lithuania and Estonia have failed to secure EU funding for a planned ‘drone wall’ along their borders with Russia and Belarus, Lithuania’s Interior Ministry has said, according to the news agency BNS.

 

The interior ministers of six NATO countries – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Finland and Norway –agreed last year to build a unified, militarized “drone wall” along their eastern borders. Although Norway is not an EU member, the ministers had agreed to explore the possibility of securing EU funding for the joint effort.

 

According to a BNS report on Monday, the border services of Estonia and Lithuania later submitted a joint application for financing.

 

“However, the project did not receive financing,”Lithuania’s Interior Ministry was quoted as saying, adding that Estonia was the lead applicant, with Lithuania acting as a partner.

 

In May 2024, Lithuania’s Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite accused Russia and Belarus of what she called attempts to “destabilize our countries”and called for efforts to “secure the EU’s external borders with drones.”

 

Bilotaite said the proposed “drone wall stretching from Norway to Poland” would protect borders not only with physical infrastructure, surveillance systems, but also with drones and other technologies. She also proposed organizing regional mass evacuation drills.

 

In November, Estonia’s government pledged nearly €12 million ($13 million) over three years to support the initiative. The country’s Police and Border Guard Board has said it was also seeking additional funding from various sources, including the EU.

 

Many EU and NATO members, including the Baltic states, have labeled Russia a threat to regional security. These accusations have resurfaced amid the talks between Russia and the US aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict.As part of a broader military plan, the Baltics aim to build around 1,000 concrete bunkers with trenches, anti-tank ditches, ammunition depots and supply sheltersalong their eastern borders, according to recent media reports.

 

Moscow has denied any intention of attacking any NATO countries or the EU. President Vladimir Putin has dismissed such claims as “nonsense,” arguing that European politicians use the alleged threat to scare their citizenry, extract resources, and justify increased military spending.

Sometimes, the Moon visits the Pleiades. Technically, this means that the orbit of our Moon takes it directly in front of the famous Pleiades star cluster, which is far in the distance. The technical term for the event is an occultation, and the Moon is famous for its rare occultations of all planets and several well-known bright stars. The Moon's tilted and precessing orbit makes its occultations of the Seven Sisters star cluster bunchy, with the current epoch starting in 2023 continuing monthly until 2029. After that, though, the next occultation won't occur until 2042. Taken from Cantabria, Spain on April 1, the featured image is a composite where previous exposures of the Pleiades from the same camera and location were digitally added to the last image to bring up the star cluster's iconic blue glow.

New Crew Lifts Off Aboard Soyuz Rocket Toward Station

Wildfires seen from space amid 'extreme risk' alert across Scotland

NASA satellites caught images of plumes of smoke from wildfires raging across Scotland amid an “extreme risk” alert.

Firefighters have been battling blazes across the country over the last week, responding to reports of around 90 outdoor fires over the weekend.

 

A “very high risk” alert for wildfires from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remains in place for the whole of Scotland until Wednesday after a period of dry warm weather.

The latest wildfire update also includes an “extreme risk” alert across the southwest, eastern, central, and north of Scotland for Thursday.

 

A fire broke out at Galloway Forest Park, near Glentrool in Dumfries and Galloway, last Thursday and burned for at least four days.

At its height, there were two appliances at the scene, assisted by two helicopters dousing the area with water.

 

In the north of Scotland, six appliances are dealt with grass on fire at Stac Pollaidh, Inverpolly Forest, north of Ullapool.

Due to heavy smoke in the area, the SFRS asked members of the public to stay away for the area.

 

More warm weather is set to continue in the days ahead with SFRS urging the public to exercise caution when out in rural areas during the Easter holidays.

Deputy assistant chief officer Kenny Barbour said: “Wildfires have the potential to burn for days, as we’ve seen this week in Dumfries and Galloway, and they spread through vast areas of land in our countryside, which is devastating for those who live nearby.

 

“Our firefighters will continue to work with local landowners and other partners to bring these fires under control.

“As the warm and dry weather continues, so too does the risk of wildfire, and so we are asking the public to exercise extreme caution and think twice before using anything involving a naked flame.

Sols 4502-4504: Sneaking Past Devil’s Gate

We continue to make progress driving up Mount Sharp, each day gaining new perspectives on the spectacular, towering buttes surrounding our path.

To get to the next canyon we can ascend, we have to swing around the north end of a small ridgeline, “Devil’s Gate,” which is on the right side of the image above.

 

The blocks scattered around the base of Devil’s Gate are ripe with interesting structures, which motivated the acquisition of an RMI mosaic across the ridge.

Those blocks are also inconvenient for driving and parking the rover with all six wheels firmly on the ground, the latter of which is needed to be able to unstow the arm for APXS and MAHLI observations.

Our last drive ended with our front wheels not quite on solid ground, so we had to forego arm work this weekend.

 

But as you can imagine with the view around us, Devil’s Gate was not the only feature that the team was excited to image.

ChemCam added a second RMI mosaic along the base of “Texoli” butte, which you can see the flank of on the left side of the image above.

Mastcam planned a mosaic across an expanse of bedrock that looks like rolling waves frozen in place at "Maidenhair Falls.”

 

The rocks right in front of the rover were also wonderfully complex in their textures and structures.

ChemCam targeted two different textures expressed in the workspace — one across fine layers at “Arroyo Burro” and one across rough, platy, and gray material at “Arroyo Conejo.”

Mastcam documented the block containing both these targets with a stereo mosaic that will give us a three-dimensional view of its structures.

 

We planned a drive to get us further around the base of Devil’s Gate, after which we will acquire an autonomously-targeted ChemCam LIBS raster and early morning Navcam and Mastcam mosaics looking back on the path we have recently traveled.

DAN is scheduled for about seven hours of data collecting across the plan, both during science blocks and our drive.

 

The sky gets a lot of attention in this plan with suites of observations taken at two different times — near midday and early morning — to assess variability across the day.

Each window of time had Navcam dust-devil and cloud movies, and measurements of the amount of dust in the atmosphere.

The early morning block of observations also had multiple cloud movies cover the full sky. REMS and RAD have regular measurements across the sols.

Wow, sol 4500. What an impressive number of sols (Martian days) exploring the Red Planet!

This delightfully even sol number made me wonder where the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Opportunity was at this point in her mission (Opportunity’s twin rover, Spirit, explored Gusev crater on Mars for roughly 2210 sols).

As it turns out, Opportunity was driving over fairly smooth terrain on sol 4500 and was approaching a light-toned rounded hill named “Spirit Mound” on the western rim of Endeavour crater in Meridiani Planum.

 

I am always so impressed and proud when I stop to think about the incredible fleet of rovers we have safely landed and operated on Mars, and the amazing scientific discoveries that have resulted from these missions!

 

Today I served on science operations as the “keeper of the plan” for the geology and mineralogy theme group. In this role, I assembled the activities in our team planning software for this two-sol plan.

Our small plan becomes part of a much larger set of instructions that will be relayed up to the rover later today.

 

Currently, the Curiosity rover is driving up Mount Sharp over broken-up blocks of bedrock and sand through a small canyon en route to the boxwork structures ahead.

This bumpy terrain can sometimes make it hard to pass the "Slip Risk Assessment Process" (SRAP) where all six wheels are required to be stable on the ground before we can unstow our robotic arm to use the contact science instruments.

After our successful 8-meter drive (about 26 feet) from yestersol we passed SRAP and got to work selecting targets for contact and remote observations.

 

The team chose to characterize a bedrock target in front of us called “Chuckwalla” using the dust removal tool (DRT), APXS, and MAHLI.

ChemCam used its LIBS instrument to analyze the chemistry of a nearby bedrock target with a knobby texture, “Pechacho,” and took a long distance RMI image to study the interesting layering in the “Devil’s Gate” butte.

Mastcam assembled an impressive portfolio of observations in this two-sol plan. The team imaged variations in bedrock textures at “Jalama” and “Julian" and documented the nature of the “Mishe Mokwa” ridgeline.

In addition, Mastcam imaged darker rocks within a previously acquired mosaic of Devil’s Gate and investigated narrow troughs (small depressions) within the sand in the workspace.

 

The environmental theme group, with their eye on the sky, included activities to measure the optical depth of the atmosphere, constrain aerosol scattering properties, and observe clouds.

A very busy day of planning for sols 4500-4501, with many more to come!

Apowerful eruption of Mount Kanlaon in the central Philippines on Monday sent ash and hot gases soaring nearly 2 miles into the sky, prompting evacuations, school closures and a curfew in surrounding areas.

While no injuries were immediately reported, volcanic ash blanketed nearby villages and significantly reduced visibility, complicating transport and raising health concerns.

 

Authorities raised the alert level, warning of the potential for further hazardous volcanic activity.

Officials ordered evacuations for those living within a 6-kilometer radius (nearly 4-mile) of the volcano's crater as emergency shelters began filling.

A time-lapse video posted to X by the country's seismological agency showed the huge plume of ash bursting from the volcano.

 

Mount Kanlaon is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, a country situated along the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where seismic and volcanic activity is common.

The eruption adds to the compounding natural threats faced by the archipelago, which also contends with up to 20 tropical storms and typhoons annually.

Mount Kanlaon, located on Negros Island and standing 2,435 meters (7,988 feet) tall, last erupted in December, prompting similar evacuations.

 

Monday's eruption, which began in the mid-afternoon, lasted over six minutes and sent an ash plume approximately 3 kilometers into the air, the Philippines' Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

PHIVOLCS raised the danger status to Alert Level 3 on its five-tier scale. This level signifies that a magmatic eruption is underway and could escalate into more powerful explosions.

The agency confirmed the eruption generated a pyroclastic density current—a fast-moving stream of superheated ash, debris and gases capable of destroying everything in its path.

Ashfall affected at least 14 villages in Canlaon, with residents reporting breathing difficulties and limited visibility on the roads.

 

In response, local authorities suspended classes and imposed a nighttime curfew to minimize exposure to volcanic ash and facilitate emergency operations.

The Department of Health warned residents to stay indoors and wear masks, citing the potential for respiratory problems.

Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas said about 100 people had taken shelter by nightfall, but warned the number could surpass 2,000 if eruptions intensify.

Cardenas said authorities had begun distributing face masks and water supplies to evacuation centers. "We are now assessing the needs of the affected families and coordinating with provincial and national agencies for support," he said.

 

PHIVOLCS has urged residents to avoid river channels where volcanic materials may accumulate, warning that heavy rain could trigger lahars—destructive volcanic mudflows.

The agency is closely monitoring seismic activity to assess whether more eruptions are likely in the coming days.

Canlaon Mayor Cardenas told the Associated Press: "It sounded like a cannon. There have been quiet eruptions before, but this was one very loud."

 

Resident Maria Therese Villanueva told DZRH radio: "It's difficult to breathe outside because of the ash. We had to close all the windows and doors and use wet rags to block the gaps."

NASA Tech Developed for Home Health Monitoring

Even before we’re aware of heart trouble or related health issues, our bodies give off warning signs in the form of vibrations.

Technology to detect these signals has ranged from electrodes and patches to watches. Now, an innovative wall-mounted technology is capable of monitoring vital signs.

Advanced TeleSensors Inc. developed the Cardi/o Monitor with an exclusive license from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

 

Over the course of five years, NASA engineers created a small, inexpensive, contactless device to measure vital signs, a challenging task partly because monitoring heart rate requires picking out motions of about one three-thousandth of an inch, which are easily swamped by other movement in the environment.

By the late 1990s, hardware and computing technology could meet the challenge, and the NASA JPL team created a prototype the size of a thick textbook.

It would emit a radio beam toward a stationary person, working similarly to a radar, and algorithms differentiated cardiac and respiratory activity from the “noise” of other movements.

 

When Sajol Ghoshal, now CEO of Austin, Texas-based Advanced TeleSensors, participated in a demonstration of the prototype, he saw the potential for in-home monitoring.

By then, developing an affordable device was possible due to the miniaturization of sensors and computing technology.

 

The Cardi/o Monitor is 3 inches square and mounts to a ceiling or wall. It can detect vital signs from up to 10 feet.

Multiple devices can be scattered throughout a house, with a smartphone app controlling settings and displaying all data on a single dashboard.

The algorithms NASA developed detect heartbeat and respiration, and the company added heart rate variability detection that indicates stress and sleep apnea.

 

If there’s an anomaly, such as a dramatic heart rate increase, an alert in the app calls attention to the situation. Up to six months of data is stored in a secure cloud, making it accessible to healthcare providers.

This limits the need for regular in-person visits, which is particularly important for conditions such as infectious diseases, which can put medical professionals and other patients at risk.

Through the commercialization of this life-preserving technology, NASA is at the heart of advancing health solutions.

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - Federal agents have seized records from a national company that solicits thousands of Americans to donate their bodies to science each year, then profits by dissecting the parts and distributing them for use by researchers and educators.

The search warrant executed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at MedCure Inc headquarters here on November 1 is sealed, and the bureau and the company declined to comment on the nature of the FBI investigation. But people familiar with the matter said the inquiry concerns the manner in whichMedCuredistributes body parts acquired from its donors.

 

MedCure is among the largest brokers of cadavers and body parts in the United States. From 2011 through 2015, documents obtained under public-record laws show, the company received more than 11,000 donated bodies and distributed more than 51,000 body parts to medical industry customers nationally. In a current brochure, the company says that 80,000 additional people have pledged to donate their bodies to MedCure when they die.

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele confirmed the day-long search of the 25,000-square-foot facility, but declined to comment further because the matter is under seal. A person familiar with the matter said that FBI agents took records from MedCure but did not remove human remains.

 

The search warrant, though sealed, signals that an FBI investigation of MedCure has reached an advanced stage. To obtain a search warrant to seize records, rather than demand them via subpoena, FBI agents must provide a detailed affidavit to a U.S. magistrate with evidence to support probable cause that crimes have been committed and that related records may be on the premises.

“MedCure is fully cooperating with the FBI, and looks forward to resolving whatever questions the government may have about their business,” said Jeffrey Edelson, a Portland attorney who represents the company. “Out of respect for the integrity of the process, we do not believe that further comment is appropriate at this time.”

Scientists reported Monday that observations by the Hubble Space Telescope have confirmed it takes Uranus 17 hours, 14 minutes and 52 seconds to complete a full rotation.

That’s 28 seconds longer than estimates by NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft in the 1980s.

 

A French-led team studied a decade’s worth of aurora observations at the ice giant to track its magnetic poles.

That long-term tracking provided a more precise rotation period for Uranus, the seventh planet from the sun.

From that distance, it takes about 84 Earth years for Uranus to orbit the sun.

 

“The continuous observations from Hubble were crucial,” lead author Laurent Lamy of the Paris Observatory said in a statement.

Lamy and his international team said this new approach can help pinpoint the rotation of any world with auroras and a magnetosphere.

 

Published in the journal Nature Astronomy, the findings come a few weeks before the 35th anniversary of Hubble’s launch.

House Democrats Monday launched an investigation into potential conflicts of interest between NASA and Elon Musk, who has inserted himself into the federal government under President Trump.

Why it matters: The billionaire's SpaceX is one of the agency's largest private sector contractors, and Musk has been overhauling federal spending at the helm of DOGE.

 

Rep Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.) and Rep. Gery Connolly (D-Va.) sent a letter to Iris Lan, NASA's chief legal officer, requesting information and documents by April 21.

They asked how NASA is ensuring that Musk isn't exploiting the agency to enrich himself and his companies, which they said would violate ethics rules for his position as a special government employee.

What they're saying: "At NASA, where Mr. Musk has both benefited from significant contracts and has the potential to receive vast amounts of new business, his defiance of recusal laws and control of operations directly benefit his businesses," the letter said.

 

"The known conflicts of interest presented by this arrangement are illegal and must be addressed immediately." SpaceX didn't immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

They requested a list of actions NASA is taking to ensure Musk isn't permitted access to information that would give his businesses an advantage over competitors.

By the numbers: SpaceX has received more than $15 billion in funding from NASA, the Washington Post reported last month.

 

The agency has slated more than $525 million to SpaceX since President Trump took office and Musk began slashing other federal funding.

Context: The Federal Aviation Administration has investigated and fined SpaceX multiple times, including for alleged safety violations.

 

Trump tapped Jared Isaacman, a billionaire commercial astronaut and close associate of Musk, as the next head of NASA.

Cop FURIOUS When Told He’s Asking Too Many Questions! Threatens arrest for simply verbally opposing him claiming it's obstruction.

 

In 1987, in their 8-1 majority opinion the Supreme Court said the "freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state.” when they invalidated as unconstitutional an ordinance that read "“It shall be unlawful for any person to assault, strike or in any manner oppose, molest, abuse or interrupt any policeman in the execution of his duty, or any person summoned to aid in making an arrest.”

 

Seems pretty clear doesn't it? Our free speech CAN NOT be considered obstruction/interference, and we can not lawfully be arrested for it. So WHY are cops all over the country threatening to arrest AND arresting people for free protected speech claiming it's interference/obstruction?

NRO director calls for leveraging full potential of cutting-edge space capabilities

One year ago, the NRO made several public commitments to ensure that our nation remains ahead of the national security challenges that we face.

Hello. I’m Chris Scolese, director of the National Reconnaissance Office.

The NRO is on a mission. Today, we’re accelerating the build-out of the world’s most capable, resilient, and technologically advanced satellite constellation. We’re strengthening the capabilities and security of our ground architecture.

And deepening our partnerships across the whole of government, and with commercial space enterprises, academia, and our allies to ensure we push the boundaries of innovation.

 

The NRO’s first mission in response to our commitment to build the world’s most capable, resilient, and technologically advanced satellite architecture launched in May 2024 from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

NROL-146 was not only carrying into orbit the first operational system in what we call our “proliferated architecture,” it was also setting a new standard for data collection, speed, and responsiveness.

 

Over the past year, we’ve launched eight missions supporting our proliferated architecture, with a ninth and tenth coming within days of one another in April.

Future launches in support of our proliferated architecture are expected at this rapid cadence through 2029. And yet another launch – also in April – will carry a separate national security mission.

This enhanced constellation is already shortening revisit times and increasing observational persistence; delivering enhanced coordination; and empowering faster data processing, fusion, and transmission speeds. All with greater resilience and security.

 

Most profoundly, we’re making it harder for our adversaries to hide, while reducing time to insights for our customers from minutes to seconds – strengthening national security with improved prospects for lethality, when it’s necessary.

Altogether, over the last two years, we’ve launched more than 150 satellites creating the largest and most capable government constellation on orbit in our nation’s history.

 

Investments in ground systems – my second commitment – are enhancing capability, resilience, data processing, and cyber security.

We’re deploying advanced data and analytics, machine learning, and deep learning to support the entire range of satellite tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination.

 

Of course, we’re not realizing these achievements on our own.

My third commitment was to expand the NRO’s partnerships across the whole of government, and with commercial space enterprises, academia, and our allies to marshal the phenomenal levels of expertise that exist within each group.

These partnerships are yielding enhanced capabilities in areas from electro-optical to radar and other phenomenologies.

We’re benefitting from our exposure to world-class expertise in areas such as AI, machine learning, quantum sensing, computing, cybersecurity, and launch.

 

Today, we can see, hear, and sense better than any other nation on earth. Used wisely and effectively, these capabilities will help to solve some of the toughest intelligence challenges of our time – while enhancing strategy, planning, and decision making; improving lethality; and saving lives.

It’s an incredibly exciting and challenging time, which makes it especially important that I share a call to action with you…
