Netanyahu says Iran controls Lebanese government through Hezbollah

TELL AVIV, February 3. /TASS/. Iran controls the Lebanese government via the Hezbollah movement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

"Iran has proxies. One of them is Hezbollah. Hezbollah just joined the government of Lebanon. That's a misnomer; they actually control the government of Lebanon. It means that Iran controls the government of Lebanon," Netanyahu’s office quoted him as saying at a meeting with a delegation of UN ambassadors who arrived in Israel to make a trip of the northern border.

It was Netanyahu’s first commentary following the formation of a new Lebanese government next Thursday.

"A great shift has taken place in the Middle East. That shift is the rise of the aggressive theocracy of Iran that seeks to conquer the Middle East, eliminate Israel and dominate many other parts of the world," the Israeli prime minister said and asked the UN ambassadors to convey the message that Israel will "stop all the aggression; from Lebanon or from Syria or from Iran itself."

"We are committed to preventing this aggression, and in so doing we're not only protecting Israel itself, but also protecting our neighbors and world peace," he stressed.

It took Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri more than eight months to form a new government of 30 ministers. Two of the thirty are women. Eleven ministerial portfolios went to the Strong Lebanon Bloc which supports the country’s President Michel Aoun. The government also includes representatives of the Al-Mustaqbal Sunni movement, the Lebanese Forces Christian party, the Hezbollah and Amal Shia movements, the Druze and Armenian communities.

British Intelligence Infiltrates Voice of Europe Media Outlet

In a startling revelation, an editor for major populist online publication Voice of Europe is accused of working for British police intelligence as part of a program targeting political organizations in the UK and broader Europe. The alleged breach comes several weeks after Disobedient Media highlighted the danger of the UK becoming involved with the Gilets Jaunes protests for geopolitical gain.

Disappearance Leads To Scrutiny Of Voice Of Europe's Editor

The operation was first exposed on January 1, 2019 by independent researcher Nicholas Monroe, who had grown concerned over the disappearance of Peter Imanuelson, a Norwegian-born UK national living in North Yorkshire and blogging under the alias Peter Sweden. Imanuelson, who was known for his affiliation with identitarian and populist movements in Europe such as Defend Europe, had caused alarm by ceasing his usually constant Twitter activity for the month of December 2018. Monroe's investigation revealed troubling indications that Imanuelson had become wrapped up in a British police intelligence operation that has been known to target right-wing and far-left political movements across Europe.

Imanuelson had become engaged in November to an editor and "second in command" of the right-wing populist news website Voice of Europe. The editor, known by the moniker of "Laura Cat," claims to be a 25-year-old unmarried woman. However, "Laura Cat's" own social media posts established that she is in fact a married mother whose brother in law is an employee of the UK Metropolitan police.

In 2009, the Guardian revealed that a British police officer had traveled to 22 different countries on a fake passport including Ireland, Iceland and Spain. Targeted movements included green, “anti-racist” and anarchist groups. Kennedy was a member of the National Public Order Intelligence Unit, a secretive organization run by a private limited company which allows it to remain exempt from freedom of information laws and other public accountability checks and balances. A database published by the Guardian on October 15th, 2018 revealed that British police had infiltrated 124 movements since the 1970’s and would even engage in sexual relationships with targets. According to a statement from Imanuelson, "Laura Cat" also works with an unnamed anti-trafficking charity that collaborates with MI5 and the US Department of Justice.

Peter Imanuelson's father Emanuel revealed that since Peter had begun speaking to "Laura Cat," their family had been systematically targeted by hacking and phone tapping attempts. When Imanuelson confronted the woman about his concerns that she was a part of a government program to target his son, he was blocked on social media both by her personal account as well as by the Voice of Europe.

Operation May Affect Britain's UKIP, Targeting Populist Leadership In Europe, US

Further statements from Emanuel Imanuelson indicate that "Laura Cat" was allegedly part of a program targeting political organizations and figures in both the US and Europe. According to Imanuelson's father, targets include Wikileaks, the Voice of Europe's owners, Polish politician Dominik Tarczyński, unnamed Republican politicians, a "person close to Donald Trump," Tommy Robinson and UKIP politician Janice Atkinson. "Laura Cat" had also purportedly hoped to use her connections with Voice of Europe to develop ties to high profile figures such as Geert Wilders, Marie Le Pen, Matteo Salvini and Viktor Orban. The Voice of Europe editor has also done design work for independent journalists such as Laura Loomer.

If the testimony of Imanuelson's family and research by Nick Monroe is confirmed, it will represent a major breach of security for anti-establishment movements in the US and Europe. In November 2018, a report from Mintpress News revealed that American white supremacists had received training from the Ukrainian Neo Nazi group the Azov Battalion, who are assisted by the Ukrainian, US and Israeli governments. Far-right groups in Ukraine such as Right Sector are also working with Islamic militants who have received training from ISIS in Syria.

In 2014 he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and claimed that Monsanto knowingly hid the carcinogenic effects of the product from consumers. The defendant’s law firm noted Monsanto’s actions had amounted fraud and malice.

Fed Kills The Bear, But..

…as I noted two weeks ago in this missive, these were all of the ingredients necessary to bring the bear market that began in 2018 to its end.

For now.

The Fed Is Limited

While the Fed certainly gave the markets what it wanted in the near-term, in the longer-term there is actually very little the Fed will be able to do to stem the next recessionary bear market.

The chart below shows why. (cap 1)

In 2008, when the Fed launched into their “accommodative policy” emergency strategy to bail out the financial markets, the Fed’s balance sheet was only about $915 Billion. The Fed Funds rate was at 4.2%.

If the market fell into a recession tomorrow, the Fed would be starting with roughly a $4 Trillion dollar balance sheet with interest rates 2% lower than they were in 2009. In other words, the ability of the Fed to “bail out” the markets today, is much more limited than it was in 2008.

“So what? There are plenty of bonds to buy.”

True, but there are other factors at play which will also dramatically limit the effectiveness of further rounds of accommodation. **

When the Fed launched QE in 2009, market valuations had been reverted to below the long-term average and investor sentiment had been completely washed out. The massive selling that occurred as the markets collapsed left a huge amount of “pent up” demand for equities. (bullshit)

Today, that is no longer the case.

Valuations are no longer cheap by historical standards, but instead are expensive by virtually every measure.

As Goldman Sachs pointed out recently, the market is pushing the 89% percentile or higher in 6 out of 7 valuation metrics. (see cap 3)

Furthermore, the market is not grossly oversold and deviated well below long-term trends as it was in 2008. As Dana Lyons recently penned:

“We used exponential regression smoothing to find the ‘best fit’ trend line on the [Shiller data] series from 1871 (h/t to Doug Short for the concept.)

After finding the best fit trend line for the composite, we can measure how far above or below prices are at a given time. As it turns out, this past September saw the composite reach 122% above the trend line, i.e., it was 122% “overbought”. In nearly 150 years, the only months that saw prices more overbought than that were those encompassing the 1999-2000 market top — the most excessive, bubbly top in U.S. market history.” (this is true)

While markets can certainly remain extended for much longer than logic would predict, they can not, and ultimately will not, stay overly extended indefinitely.

The important point here is simply this. While the Fed may have curtailed the 2018 bear market temporarily, the environment today is vastly different than it was in 2008-2009. Here are a few more differences:

Unemployment is 4%, not 10+%

Jobless claims are at historic lows, rather than historic highs.

Consumer confidence is optimistic, not pessimistic. ( Do not agree here)

Corporate debt is a record levels and the quality of that debt has deteriorated.( totally agree)

The government is already running a $1 trillion deficit in an expansion not half that rate as prior to the last recession.

The economy is extremely long is a growth cycle, not emerging from a recession.

Pent up demand for houses, cars, and other durables has been absorbed. (See demand destruction and the cash for clunkers program the hussein admin rolled out to 'help' the auto mfg shortly after the '08 crash)

Production and Services measures recently peaked, not bottomed.

In other words, the world is exactly the opposite of what it was when the Fed launched “monetary accommodation”previously. Logic suggests that such an environment will make further interventions by the Fed less effective.

The only question is how long will it take the markets to figure it out?

Gold repatriation refers to plans of various governments to bring home their gold stored outside the home country.

Many nations use foreign vaults for safe-keeping of part of their gold reserves. In 2014, there was movement by some European nations to return gold stored abroad back to the owner country. The Dutch De Nederlandsche Bank reduced its proportion of gold held by the New York Federal Reserve from 51% to 31%, and Austria and Belgium reviewed the possibility of taking similar measures.[1]
