Over at Arts and Entertainment, Dan Zak has your full recap of President Obama's appearance on Jerry Seinfeld's “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”

Here's the quote that stood out to us:

“I curse. I curse. … Bad stuff, or stupid stuff, is happening constantly, right? Every day. So you have to be able to just make fun of a lot of that. Like ‘that was even dumber and more annoying than usual.’ That’s when cursing is really valuable.”

This, of course, isn't altogether surprising. Obama has been shown on camera calling Kanye West a “jackass” for his award-show antics, he mused during the BP oil spill that he needs to figure out “whose ass to kick,” and venerated former ABC reporter Ann Compton has said she has seen Obama go on a profane tirade in a meeting with reporters.

And Obama is, of course, hardly the first president to swear; anyone who has heard the Richard Nixon tapes or is familiar with Lyndon B. Johnson’s penchant for folksy/vulgar language could tell you that. Even conservative Christian George W. Bush was caught on a hot mic during his presidency calling a New York Times reporter a “major-league [expletive].”

But it is still somewhat interesting to see the leader of the free world not only admitting he curses frequently, but that he endorses the practice as a stress-reliever.

Perhaps he saw that study this month suggesting cursing has its benefits and sees now as the moment for a president to spearhead social change:

According to the researchers, the findings suggest that swearing is mostly a vehicle for expressing strong emotion – anger, frustration, derogation, surprise and elation — among people who care less about who they might offend. Cursing is an intense, succinct and powerful way of expressing yourself, even if some people find it unpleasant."

Following in the footsteps of her mother, Lauren Salzman has decided to plead guilty rather than go to trial in the case of the U.S. v. Raniere Et Al.to one count each of Racketeering and Racketeering Conspiracy.

I’ve probably reviewed thousands of congressional letters, and intelligence committee letters from oversight, along with even more executive agency responses. In fact, CTH has shared hundreds of outlines covering granular details within many of the internal memos and correspondences. However, I have never seen anything like this before. The combination of arrogance, hubris and desperation within a letter (pdf here) from the four Democrats on the intelligence oversight Gang of Eight, is palpable even in text format.

Legislative branch members: Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff and Mark Warner write a letter today to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, demanding the executive branch cabinet members withhold information from the White House.

Perhaps more stunningly, and extra-constitutionally (meaning outside the framework of constitutional separation of power), within the jaw-dropping letter the four Democrats outline previous verbal conversations and current agreements with Coats, Rosenstein and Wray where the Cabinet officers agreed to keep information away from the White House Chief Executive, the President.

That third paragraph is particularly interesting: …”the verbal assurance you provided us that DOJ and FBI would not provide the White House“…Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot?

Why would the Trump DOJ and FBI be giving Pelosi Inc. “assurances” of their intent to withhold intelligence from the White House (Office of the President). Why would Rosenstein and Wray be giving “assurances”?

This letter reeks of corruption, manipulative intent, and between-the-lines admissions of gross intelligence abuses. Additionally, the appearance of a visible alignment between corrupt executive branch officials (Wray, Rosenstein, possibly Coats) and corrupt intelligence oversight officials (Schiff, Warner, Pelosi, Schumer) is jaw-droppingly obvious. This corrupt and self-interested alignment has always belayed our optimism that President Trump had a cabinet willing to confront institutional corruption. Our concern has always been that these aligned officials will fight against President Trump’s sunlight requests. Likely DNI Dan Coats will release the declassified FISA portions as requested; thankfully the FISC (Judicial Branch) supports the executive branch in this approach. However, we should probably temper optimism -at least in timing- surrounding the emails and text messages from Ohr, Comey, Page, Strzok and McCabe. Those bogus “declassified” releases are more dependent on the corrupt DOJ (Rosenstein) and FBI (Wray).

Parliament demands answers after years of denying involvement

Throughout the past four years, all questions about British military involvement were answered the same way, with claims from the government that there was absolutely no role in the Yemeni conflict.

That position collapsed suddenly over the weekend, when media reports revealed that five British special forces operatives were injured in combat in Yemen, supporting the Saudi invasion. The troops were from Special Boat Service.

This not only revealed that British troops were in fact involved in Yemen, but perhaps more importantly that the government had been lying about it. Now parliament, particularly the opposition, is demanding to know specifics.

This has meant a subtle official shift from “we are not party to the conflict” to them no longer denying that troops are present. Lawsuit Seeks Documents Potentially Showing FBI Ignored Intelligence Community IG Evidence That Chinese Hacked Clinton’s Server

A congressman described a meeting in which Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) officials informed FBI agent Peter Strzok they had discovered Hillary Clinton’s private email server was hacked by a foreign power.

Strzok acknowledged meeting with the investigators but claimed he didn’t recall what they told him. The FBI said it had no evidence of such a breach, but has not explained what, if anything, it did to look for one based on the ICIG’s lead.

Judicial Watch is suing to force the government to produce records showing what the ICIG found.

Sources said the ICIG had detailed knowledge of a China-affiliated group hacking Clinton’s server.

The watchdog group Judicial Watch is suing the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to produce records detailing the FBI response to warnings that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email server had been compromised by a foreign power.

The Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) found that Clinton’s server was compromised with malware that caused every one of Clinton’s emails to be copied to a foreign entity, according to a congressman on the House Judiciary Committee.

In July 2018, during the committee’s questioning of Strzok, Republican Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert described a meeting in which named members of the ICIG staff met with Strzok. He said they informed Stzrok of “an anomaly they had found on Hillary Clinton’s emails that were going to the private unauthorized server that you were supposed to be investigating.”

“It was going to an unauthorized source that was a foreign entity unrelated to Russia,” Gohmert said.

The grand finale seems to have been extended, and people can generally detect when it spells the end of the rally.

After evidence came to light that the former chief of staff of Michelle Obama had attempted to intervene on behalf of the Smollett family to get the investigation turned over to the FBI, the ex-aid, prominent Chicago attorney Tina Tchen, has now gone on the record to confirm that she did contact the state's attorney whose office eventually let Smollett off the hook.

In a statement to USA Today on Wednesday, Tchen addressed reports that she had emailed Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx to request on behalf of the Smolletts that the investigation be taken out of the hands of the Chicago Police Department, which would eventually conclude that Smollett had orchestrated an alleged "hoax" hate crime against himself.

After Tchen contacted Foxx to voice the Smollett family's "concerns" about how the Chicago police were handling the case, Foxx replied in a February 1 email: "Spoke to the Superintendent [Eddie] Johnson. I convinced him to reach out to FBI to ask that they take over the investigation."

"Spoke to the superintendent earlier, he made the ask," Foxx told a Smollett family member whose name was redacted from released court documents. "Trying to figure out logistics. I’ll keep you posted."

Foxx later told the Chicago Sun-Times that the Smollett family was concerned about leaks to the media and believed the FBI would keep a "tighter lid on the information."

The keys to understanding TPP11

Although it takes the TPP provisions as a basis, the CPTPP or TPP11 has some differences. The most relevant: 20 provisions that, with the departure from the US, were left "suspended".

In 2005, Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore signed the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement, which would enter into force in 2006. As of 2008, more countries joined: Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam completed the 12 signatory countries, which later formed the Trans-Pacific Economic Cooperation Agreement (TPP, for its acronym in English). That until 2017, when Donald Trump decided to withdraw the United States from the treaty.

It was then when the 11 remaining countries "rescued" the content of the agreement and began to negotiate the Integral and Progressive Treaty of Trans-Pacific Partnership ( CPTPP ), also known as TPP11, to differentiate it from the previous TPP12.

The bilateral director of Direcon and chief negotiator of TPP11, Felipe Lopeandía , explains the current situation of the agreement, signed in Santiago on March 8, 2018, but that must be ratified by Congress, which he joined at the end of October 2018. Since that date it was reviewed and approved by the Foreign Affairs and Finance Commissions. During March, the agreement was also discussed by the Agriculture and Labor Commissions.

"After having been approached by these two commissions, last week he went to the chamber of the Chamber [of Deputies], his discussion began in the room last Wednesday [March 20] and, as a result of this week is district , the discussion in the room is resumed next week, "details Lopeandía in an interview with PAUTA Bloomberg .

The complexity of the negotiation of the TPP would explain, in Lopeandía's opinion, many of the concerns that the TPP11 now generates, especially regarding intellectual property issues, although it is quick to clarify that, although the TPP11 includes part of the contents of the TPP12 , leaves 20 provisions unapplied, 11 of which have to do with intellectual property, pharmaceutical patents and copyright on the internet. "I think there were many of those elements of suspicion or doubts about the content of this agreement," he says.

Another element that has generated doubts, recognizes Lopeandía, is an obligation that is in the CPTPP, but that had already been acquired by Chile with the ratification of the agreement UPOV 91 in 2011, which protects new plant varieties. Although the regulations for their full application have not been generated, it is a norm that is already ratified by Congress and, therefore, TPP11 does not change anything in this regard, he explains.

The rule, he says, refers to new varieties and plant products, achieved through research and innovation, and does not affect the country's plant heritage, for example the original seeds in the hands of small communities, emphasizes Lopeandía.

"Notwithstanding that Chile already has bilateral agreements with all the member countries of this agreement, the tariff benefits for Chile are very significant," says Lopeandía, who explains that they include nearly 3,000 new tariff preferences, Chilean export products that go to access with better conditions to markets such as Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada and Mexico, mainly from the agricultural, agroindustrial, forestry and fishing sectors.

Lopeandía stresses the importance of the approval of the agreement, since it is in force for the seven countries that have already approved it since December 30, 2018. Chilean producers are at a disadvantage compared to those of countries that have already ratified the treaty.

"The departure of the United States from the TPP was a sensitive and complex moment of the process … For all countries as a whole, the exit from the United States had some kind of impact," Lopeandía admits, although he says that for Chile it was less, given the free trade agreement between both countries.

Lopeandía highlights, in any case, the conviction and the political decision taken by the remaining 11 members to move forward the TPP11.
