In a few months 12-year-olds in the nation’s most populous state can, without parental consent, get a controversial vaccine in public schools to treat a sexually transmitted disease.

 

Even for ultra-liberal California this may seem astounding, that children can receive any sort of non-emergency medical treatment without the approval of a guardian. As if this weren’t atrocious enough, the costly vaccine (Gardasil)—linked to dozens of deaths and thousands of debilitating side effects— will be largely financed with taxpayer dollars.

 

Worse yet is that a disturbing number of girls and young women who received Gardasil have died or suffered serious adverse effects such as paralysis, seizures and blindness since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fast tracked its approval under pressure from the pharmaceutical giant (Merck) that makes it. Just this week Judicial Watch released the latest of many daunting federal reports exposing the deaths of 26 girls who received the shot in the last year alone.

 

Before that Judicial Watch uncovered droves of FDA records, obtained by suing the agency, that document the damage associated with Gardasil which is promoted as a miracle shot that can prevent certain strains of cervical cancer caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). In 2008 JW also published a special report detailing Gardasil’s approval process, side effects, safety concerns and marketing practices. Undoubtedly, it illustrates a large-scale public health experiment.

 

Yet, incredibly, at least 20 states have passed laws requiring funding for Gardasil or education programs promoting the vaccine. Among states that have enacted Gardasil-related measures are Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, Rhode Island and Utah. In all 50 states, tax dollars help pay for the shots because the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) makes them available through the federal Vaccines for Children program.

 

But California has broken away from the pack in a big way by making Gardasil, which is administered to girls as young as 9, available without permission from a parent. Signed by Governor Jerry Brown this month, the new measure (Minors: Medical Care: Consent Bill) will take effect in January. That means anyone 12 years of age or older can consent to medical care related to the prevention of a sexually transmitted disease, according to the actual language of the law.

 

This includes the strains of cervical cancer, communicated only by sexual contact, that Gardasil’s manufacturer claims to prevent. The new law was clearly crafted for this one drug and a chunk of it is dedicated to touting it because “HPV vaccination prior to the onset of sexual activity is critical since most infections occur within a short time frame post initiation.”

 

Of interesting note is that the key California legislators who passed the Gardasil law received campaign money from Merck, according to a Sacramento-based investigative journalism group that published a database with the names and numbers. All of the lawmakers are Democrats who each got between $300 and $3,500 from the huge pharmaceutical conglomerate.

A student working on his doctorate at a New York university was found dead by his roommate earlier this month five hours after the student made an "unintelligible" 911 call for help, according to a police official.

 

First responders couldn't find Yeming Shen because his 911 call February 10 was not understandable and it was made on his foreign-issued cell phone that was only traceable to an area – not a specific address – in the city of Troy with several apartment buildings, Capt. Steven Barker said Friday.

 

Officers and firefighters went around knocking on doors at the apartments near Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, but couldn't find the man, who called 911 at 11 a.m., he said.

 

Around 5:45 p.m., Shen's roommate returned to their apartment, found him dead, and called 911, Barker said. A preliminary autopsy determined he died of influenza, Richard Crist, director of operations for Rensselaer County, said earlier this month.

 

"The incident draws to attention the severity of the flu and the devastating effects it can have," Barker said. "We continue to extend our thoughts to the family and friends of Mr. Shen, as well as the responders involved throughout the incident."

 

An internal investigation determined authorities took appropriate actions, and even went beyond normal expectations, he said.

 

The problem in tracing the 911 call was Shen used a cell phone from China and a Chinese carrier that let him use a phone number with a local area code that was not linked with a local address, Barker said. Calls were routed to his Chinese number, but the 911 dispatcher could only see the local number.

 

Checks with cell phone providers and apartment management to get an address associated with the New York number came up empty, he added.

 

The 911 dispatcher was unable to understand Shen, Barker said.

 

"The sounds were unintelligible. This could be due to a potential language barrier, Mr. Shen's flu symptoms, or both," he said. Shen, who had lived in China, had been in the United States for more than a year, he told CNN.

According to the university, Shen was working on his doctorate in decision sciences and engineering systems with a focus on interdicting interdependent networks. He earned his master's degree in operational research and cybernetics and his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, the university said.

 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Yeming's family, fellow students, friends, and teachers. We are all saddened by the loss of one of our own. Please support each other during this difficult time," school President Shirley Ann Jackson said in an email to students and faculty.

 

One of Shen's professors, Thomas Sharkey, wrote in the university newspaper that Shen was using "his tremendous mathematical mind" to create new methods of disrupting transnational criminal networks.

 

"Simply put, I believe that the legacy of his research is that it will make the world a better place," Sharkey wrote.

The evacuated passengers will stay isolated from the center’s training participants and remain at the facility until they are medically cleared, according to the release. The release says any evacuees who become seriously ill will be treated at “pre-identified hospitals.”

 

Kane said the evacuees will be housed in a CDP dormitory “to protect health, and at the same time, keep hospital beds open for people who actually need them,” such as people with serious cases of the flu. Asked how many people would arrive, Kane said the number would vary, though she noted that the CDP has 48 rooms available.

 

“The evacuees will be flown in a small plane to Anniston and will ride in a federally arranged vehicle from the airport to the dorm,” Kane wrote in an e-mail to The Star. “The planes and vehicles will be cleaned and sanitized, carefully following the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 

Michael Barton, director of the Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency, said that he had spoken with officials at the CDP after the news release. HHS had not sent any prior notice, he said, to either the EMA or to the Alabama Department of Public Health. Anniston City Manager Steven Folks also said he’d not been given any notice about the evacuees.

 

CDP management told Barton they only knew that evacuees were to arrive early in the week, but not how many or their condition.

 

“We will be providing some communication throughout our elected officials and first responders as well as healthcare facilities,” Barton said, “and public education in general terms of what this means or what impacts there could be for the county — though we expect none.”

 

FEMA operates the CDP, which is located on part of the former Fort McClellan. The center’s staff train civilian first responders from around the country to respond to natural and manmade disasters.

 

Rick Brewer, spokesman for the CDP, said training at the center will continue on its normal schedule next week.

Massachusetts Democrat who sits on ethics panel arrested for corruption

 

Longtime Massachusetts state Rep. David Nangle, who sits on both the ethics and rules committees, has been arrested for corruption.

 

The Democratic lawmaker was arrested by the FBI and IRS on Tuesday and charged with bank fraud, lying to a bank, falsifying tax returns, and wire fraud. He stands accused of using his campaign’s bank account to fund his expensive gambling habit, according to ABC News.

 

The 28-count indictment alleges Nangle “was heavily in debt, had poor credit and had regular cash flow problems as a result of extensive gambling at various casinos in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, among others — placing thousands of bets on internet gambling sites.”

 

As the debt accumulated, even as Nangle earned about $100,000 in recent years, prosecutors said he began to use campaign funds to close out his personal debt instead of for legitimate purposes and used “the Nangle Committee bank account as his own personal checking account to pay for various personal expenses and to withdraw cash.”

 

As a member of the state legislature, Nangle sits on the House Committee on Ethics, the House Committee on Rules, and the Joint Committee on Rules.

 

FBI agent Joseph Bonavolonta said Nangle, who has served as a state lawmaker since 1999, used the funds not just for gambling, but for a variety of illicit purposes.

 

“Time after time, he allegedly used campaign funds to pay for personal expenses, spending thousands of dollars on golf club fees, gas, gift cards, hotels, restaurants, flowers and rental cars for trips to casinos, some of which he had already been reimbursed for by taxpayers,” Bonavolonta said.

 

The indictment also alleges Nangle convinced a part-time state employee to help him file fraudulent taxes, and when the employee declined to submit them, Nangle pushed the send button and said he would “take the blame if anything happens.”

 

Andrew Lelling, U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, said the reason Nangle was charged in federal rather than state court was because it is more of a deterrent for others.

 

“I think there’s a real deterrent value in us being active in this area, and we will continue to do that,” Lelling said.

I have been looking into this E fellow who is posting on Twitter as FollowThe17. Whether he is Eye The Spy or not, I can't say because that account was deleted.

103-Year-Old Virginia Woman Helps Run Pie Shop

 

A woman in Monroe, Virginia, is not letting age stop her from helping run the business she started with her husband nearly 70 years ago.

 

In 1952, Mary Woodruff and her beloved husband, James, built Woodruff’s Café & Pie Shop and lived together in the apartment upstairs, according to WCRBTV.

 

“We were happy. We were just getting ready to do something together. And we did. And I’ve been blessed,” said Woodruff, who is now 103 years old.

 

However, after the shop closed down in 1982, Woodruff’s daughter, Angela Scott, felt a calling to keep her family’s tradition alive.

 

When she and her husband reopened the café in 1998, they experienced some difficulty attracting customers and mostly sold sandwiches.

 

“It was off the beaten path. It had been closed for so many years. There were days that we didn’t have a customer, maybe one or two,” she recalled, adding that her mother urged her not to give up.

 

“But Mama just kept going, ‘Angie, you gotta have faith, it’s gonna be fine.’ I think if it hadn’t been for her, I probably would’ve closed,” she said.

 

When the café’s sign was hit by a car, Scott had the words “Pie Shop” rewritten in big letters so it could be seen from the road, according to their website.

 

“As soon as we put the Pie Shop (sign) out there, that’s when people started stopping,” she said.

 

In a Facebook post February 3, the owners expressed how proud they were of the successful business.

That is, but i'm speaking more to the broader issue of homosexuality in general. Idgaf what people do for the most part, but there s a reason it has been on such a rampant rise the last 10-20 years. emotional abuse being the larger, but not really the worst. Society has degraded to the point where emotional abuse is almost literally celebrated, thus causing an influx, and with usually one of the three dark personalities to go along with it, usually endes up in a physical abuse situation down the line, which then expands the worst of the abuses even further.It's a vicious cycle, and is almost out of control at this point.

Syrian Air Defences Will Shoot Down Any Aircraft Violating Country's Airspace - Army Command

 

The Turkish military and Turkish-backed militias and Syrian forces became engaged in a shooting war in Syria's Idlib province following a Syrian artillery attack on a Turkish observation post last week. Damascus began an operation in the province in December amid repeated attacks on its forces by terrorist militants operating in the region.

 

The Syrian Army has warned that its air defences would shoot down any aircraft violating the country's airspace.

 

"Any aircraft which violate Syria's airspace will be treated as enemy military targets…They will be tracked immediately after detection and destroyed immediately after violating our airspace," Syrian Armed Forces Command said in a press statement on Saturday.

 

According to the military, air defence troops have received orders to defend the country's airspace "by all available means."

Turkish Soldier Killed in Idlib

 

Also Saturday, an official from Turkey's Gaziantep governorate reported that a Turkish contract soldier was killed in Idlib province following a Syrian Army attack on Turkish forces.

 

"As a result of shelling by the Syrian regime in the Idlib area, contract serviceman Mecit Demir was killed," the official said.

 

According to Turkey's Sabah newspaper, the serviceman was a member of a tank crew, and succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Funeral services are expected to take place in Gaziantep on Sunday.

 

Demir was the sixteenth Turkish soldier killed in fighting in Idlib this month.

 

Abdulhamit Gul, Turkey's minister of justice, posted a photo of the soldier, issuing his condolences to Demir's family and friends.

Russian, Turkish Defence Ministers Discuss Syria Situation

 

Also on Saturday, the Russian military reported that Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed the need to stabilize the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar.

 

"During the phone conversation, [the ministers] discussed the issues [related to the] stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone," the ministry said. According to the MoD, the two sides exchanged opinions on the situation in Syria more broadly. No further information about the call was provided.

 

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that Turkey's support for militants attacking Syrian Army forces in Idlib province was a violation of Russian-Turkish agreements on the need to separate the armed opposition from terrorists which threatened to "provoke a further escalation in the conflict" in the renegade Syrian region.

Weeks of Escalation

 

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry cast doubt on Ankara's claims about the possibility of a humanitarian disaster if Turkey were to withdraw from Syrian territory, saying there was no evidence about the reports of "a million" refugees moving from Idlib toward the Syrian-Turkish border. The Russian military accused Turkish-backed militants supported by Turkish artillery of attacking Syrian Army positions in Idlib. In a telephone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his serious concern about aggressive actions by extremist groups in Idlib against Syrian Army troops, and called for "unconditional respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

 

Tensions in the Idlib de-escalation zone escalated on February 3 after Syrian forces shelled a Turkish observation point in the province, killing several troops and prompting Ankara to threaten an imminent large-scale invasion. Damascus began an anti-terrorist operation in Idlib in December following repeated militant attacks on Syrian troops. Last week, the Syrian government vowed to fight terrorists throughout the country, including in Idlib, notwithstanding Turkish invasion threats.

 

Russia, Turkey and Iran serve as guarantors of a ceasefire agreement reached in Astana, Kazakhstan in 2017, which set up four de-escalation zones in the war-torn country. Damascus has since retaken control over three of these zones, but the fourth, situated in Idlib and parts of several neighbouring provinces, remains controlled by a broad array of armed militias and terrorists, including Nusra Front, the al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group which currently calls itself Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham.*

 

In addition to the tens of thousands of militants believed to be concentrated in the region, Idlib is home to hundreds of thousands of civilians. Damascus has accused terrorists of attempting to use these civilians as human shields, making the task of liberating the province more difficult.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Port Huron, Michigan, seized a human brain being shipped into the U.S. via Canadian Post

 

CBP officers assigned to the Area Port of Port Huron referred a Canadian postal courier truck to a secondary inspection after it crossed the Blue Water Bridge for entry into the United States, according to information obtained from CBP officials in Michigan.

 

On Valentine’s Day, the officers carried out a routine mail inspection and targeted a shipment whose manifest called the package an “Antique Teaching Specimen,” officials stated. The officers opened the package for a physical inspection and discovered a glass jar containing a human brain specimen.

 

Officials stated the package did not contain any of the required paperwork or documentation for the shipment of human specimens. The officers determined the shipment to be illegal and seized the package.

 

Officials said the shipment came to the U.S. from Toronto, Canada, and listed an address in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as its final destination.

 

The statement obtained from CBP officials did not disclose if any further investigation will take place of if charges will be potentially filed in court

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it obtained 183 pages of documents from the Department of Homeland Security revealing that the Obama administration scrubbed the law enforcement agency’s “Terrorist Screening Database” in order to protect what it considered the civil rights of suspected Islamic terrorist groups. The documents appear to confirm charges that Obama administration changes created a massive “hands off” list. Removed data from the terrorist watch list could have helped prevent the San Bernardino terrorist attack.

 

The new documents were produced in response to Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed on February 13, 2015, (Judicial Watch v U.S. Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:15-cv-00222)) for:

 

A copy of the [Department of Homeland Security] Office of Inspector General report regarding, concerning, or related to a “hands off list” purportedly maintained by [Department of Homeland Security], US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and/or US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) used to allow certain individuals to enter the United States, who had previously been denied entry to the United States or been made to undergo secondary screening by CBP based on suspicion of terrorism ties.

 

Any and all records of communication to or from [Department of Homeland Security] Inspector General Charles Edwards from May 31, 2014 regarding the aforementioned OIG report.

 

On May 6, 2014, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) released internal Department of Homeland Security emails revealing an alleged terrorist “hands off” list allowing individuals with potential terrorist ties into the United States. Allegations by former Customs and Border Patrol Officer Philip Haney spurred Senator Grassley’s and other congressional investigations.

 

The new Homeland Security documents confirm the modification of nearly 1,000 terrorist suspect reports. The September 25, 2013, Department of Homeland Security Inspector General memorandum regarding Haney’s terror watch list entries, discloses that the Department of Homeland Security Privacy Office and Department of Homeland Security Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties “determined that individuals could only be “‘watchlisted’ based on an association with a known or suspected terrorist already ‘watchlisted’… not based on their affiliation with [REDACTED] (or any other [REDACTED] organization.” The redactions are under Exemption 7 (E), which the government asserts in this instance:

 

Protects all law enforcement information that “would disclose techniques and procedures for law enforcement investigation or prosecution, or would disclose guidelines for law enforcement investigations or prosecution if such disclosure could reasonably be expected to risk circumvention of the law.” 5 U.S.C. § 552(b)(7)(E). The Homeland Security Inspector General’s report, released only as a result of the Judicial Watch lawsuit, shows that a Homeland Security official reported that Haney was forced to “modify” nearly a thousand terror suspect entries:

 

“In order to be in compliance with CBP [Customs and Border Protection] policy, [Redacted] was ordered by [Redacted] supervisors to modify all 820 records and remove all references to terrorism.”

 

The documents include a June 8, 2012, letter of commendation to Haney by a senior official with Homeland Security’s National Targeting Center who describes Haney as “invaluable” and commends him for assisting “in the identification of over 300 persons with possible connections to terrorism.”

 

Senator Grassley previously released emails including a 2012 email chain between Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection asking whether to admit an unnamed individual with ties to various terrorist groups. The person was believed to be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and a close associate and supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to the email exchange obtained by Grassley’s office.

 

In his February 3, 2014, letter to Johnson, Grassley quotes an email from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official to a Customs and Border Protection official saying, “I’m puzzled how someone could be a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, be an associate of [Redacted], say that the US is staging car bombings in Iraq and that [it] is ok for men to beat their wives, question who was behind the 9/11 attacks, and be afforded the luxury of a visitor visa and de-watchlisted.”

 

On May 19, 2014, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Mike McCaul (R-TX) told Breitbart News that the “terrorist hands off list” emails released by Grassley had been under investigation by the newly appointed Department of Homeland Security Inspector General John Roth for over three months. McCaul added, “The new IG has inherited this matter. He’s a new IG. He’s pretty decent–well respected. Obviously, his predecessor was not.”

 

Roth’s predecessor was Charles Edwards, who left office after a series of allegations that he had softened reports to avoid embarrassing the Obama administration. According to an April 24, 2014, report from an oversight panel of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Operations Committee, Edwards “failed to uphold the independence of the OIG … and directed that reports be altered or delayed to accommodate senior Department of Homeland Security officials.”

 

“These new documents bolster allegations that the Obama administration may have removed information from a terrorist watch list that could have prevented the San Bernardino terrorist attack,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Philip Haney risked his career to blow the whistle on how the Obama administration created a ‘hands off” list of over 1,000 foreign nationals with potential terrorist ties. And, once again, it was a Judicial Watch lawsuit – and not Congress or the media – that uncovered the key information about this national security scandal.”

 

Haney told Breitbart.com after the San Bernardino terrorist attack that entries regarding suspicious and terror-related activity were removed from an agency watch list as the result of political pressure after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing:

 

“They came into the National Targeting Center, either physically or through emails and correspondence, and said that we could not develop cases based on association with Tablighi Jamaat [a Muslim religious organization with which the San Bernardino terrorists were reportedly affiliated], and/or any Islamic group,” Haney revealed.

Greyhound to Stop Allowing Immigration Checks on Buses

 

SEATTLE—Greyhound, the nation’s largest bus company, said Friday it will stop allowing Border Patrol agents without a warrant to board its buses to conduct routine immigration checks.

 

The company’s announcement came one week after The Associated Press reported on a leaked Border Patrol memo confirming that agents can’t board private buses without the consent of the bus company. Greyhound had previously insisted that even though it didn’t like the immigration checks, it had no choice under federal law but to allow them.

 

In an emailed statement, the company said it would notify the Department of Homeland Security that it does not consent to unwarranted searches on its buses or in areas of terminals that are not open to the public — such as company offices or any areas a person needs a ticket to access.

 

Greyhound said it would provide its drivers and bus station employees updated training regarding the new policy, and that it would place stickers on all its buses clearly stating that it does not consent to the searches.

 

“Our primary concern is the safety of our customers and team members, and we are confident these changes will lead to an improved experience for all parties involved,” the statement said.

 

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which includes the Border Patrol, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Greyhound has faced pressure from the American Civil Liberties Union, immigrant rights activists and Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson to stop allowing sweeps on buses within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of an international border or coastline. In many cases, the buses being checked were not crossing or even approaching an international boundary.

 

Ferguson said in an email his office will follow up with Greyhound to ensure compliance.

California Sheriff Agrees to Share Jail Records With ICE, Says Subpoenas Should Be Honored

 

SAN DIEGO—The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will share records of people who were criminally arrested with immigration authorities, becoming the first local law enforcement agency in five states to comply with unusual demands for information, authorities said Friday.

 

“A truly authorized federal administrative subpoena has to be honored,” sheriff Bill Gore told NBC 7 San Diego.

 

In recent weeks, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued ‘administrative subpoenas—signed by an immigration official, not a judge—to state and local law enforcement agencies in Colorado, Connecticut, New York, Oregon and California.

 

Gore’s announcement, in a statement from his department late Thursday, came less than a week after ICE issued four subpoenas, the only ones so far in California. The agency is the first in all five states to comply with the requests, ICE spokeswoman Lauren Mack said.

 

The demands for information are among several recent moves by the Trump administration against what it considers “sanctuary” jurisdictions, which adopt laws and policies to limit cooperation with immigration authorities.

 

“While the Sheriff’s Department does not enforce immigration laws, we are obligated to comply with lawfully issued subpoenas,” the department statement read.

Greyhound's stance is a direct indication of the quantity of illegals who use bus transportation. Apparently losing this portion of their ridership is expected to impact their business plan in a major way. Greyhound is in a position to know who's riding their buses and how many and when and where.

On the surface this looks fishy, however, the border patrol are stopping vehicles inside the US sometimes hundreds of miles from the border. In early 1999, the local community leaders of Anniston and Calhoun County established the Fort McClellan Joint Powers Authority for the purpose of overseeing the redevelopment and reuse of Fort McClellan. On 30 April 2009, Alabama Governor Bob Riley signed into law Act # 2009-337 authorizing "the incorporation of development authorities for the purpose of developing real and personal property of closed military installations in Alabama." In March 2010, the McClellan Development Authority was officially certified as a non-profit public corporation charged with the future economic development of the former fort. In 2014, ordnance cleanup was completed after 11 years of environmental remediation. As of September 2015, more than 3,100 acres are back in use 3,000 are for sale, and a little more than 3,000 acres are set to go up for sale in the next three to five years.[21]

 

Carved from the developed portions of the original reservation, McClellan is a 10,000-acre (40.0-km2) master-planned, mixed-use community offering opportunities for residential, commercial, industrial, retail, education, research, and technology development. Since its opening, McClellan has become home to over 900 residents and a work place for more than 3,000 employees.[22]

 

Wildlife Refuge:

In 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior, established the Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge on 9,016 acres (36.1 km²) in undeveloped land on the reservation of the former Fort McClellan. It takes its name from some of the last-remaining mountain longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) forests in the southeastern United States.

 

As a relatively new wildlife refuge, Mountain Longleaf has not yet developed any sizable tourist facilities. A single information kiosk is located at the junction of Bain's Gap Road and Ridge Road South, near the center of the McClellan community. Additionally, part of the reserve is closed to the general public, pending environmental cleanup. Otherwise, there are limited opportunities for hiking, photography, and wildlife observation at the refuge. Work is underway to restore the environment from the ecological problems introduced by the long use of the area for Army field training.

MGM Resorts sued over data breach that possibly involved 10.6 million guests

 

U.S. casino operator MGM Resorts International has been sued over a data breach last year, which the company confirmed earlier this week and which reportedly involved details of over 10.6 million hotel guests.

 

The lawsuit was filed by law firm Morgan & Morgan, whose lawyer John Yanchunis has also represented some Yahoo users in a breach of 3 billion accounts between 2013 and 2016.

 

MGM Resorts said on Thursday that last summer it "discovered unauthorized access to a cloud server that contained a limited amount of information for certain previous guests".

 

The majority of information exposed related to the names of guests and their phone numbers, a company spokesman had said, without confirming the exact number of guests affected.

 

Technology website ZDNet reported that the personal details of more than 10.6 million guests who stayed at MGM Resorts hotels were published on a hacking forum this week.

 

The details in the leaked files reportedly included information on celebrities, chief executives of technology companies, reporters and government officials.

 

Morgan & Morgan filed its lawsuit on Friday as a "complaint for damages" and "injunctive relief", according to the filing at the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.

 

Yanchunis has previously been associated with several other data breach lawsuits, including against credit reporting agency Equifax over its 2017 breach of nearly 150 million Americans and against Facebook Inc and political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica for obtaining information belonging to millions of Facebook users without permission.

Baltimore County Councilman Wade Kach called it “a piece of propaganda” that didn’t belong in a classroom.

Charles Herndon, a spokesman for Baltimore County schools, said students in advanced high school classes are "discerning, intelligent students who are going to be able to draw their own inferences and draw their own conclusions."

 

"The topics being discussed in the class included World Wars and the attempts by some leaders throughout history to limit or prevent migration into certain countries. In isolation and out of context with the lesson, the image could be misunderstood," the school district said in a statement.

Tell me how removing 7 government regulations for every new one doesn't immediately benefit all small businesses and entrepeneurs. They used to spend half their time just trying to stay abreast of the regulations so they wouldn't get "in trouble".
