The Missile Defense Agency (MDA), in cooperation with the US Navy, conducted on Kauai what it called Flight Test Aegis Weapon System 31 to demonstrate the capability of a ballistic missile defense (BMD)-configured Aegis ship to detect, track, engage and intercept a medium-range ballistic missile target with a salvo of two Standard Missile-6 Dual II (BMD-initialized) missiles.

 

To the chagrin of the MDA, with the Russian signals ship as a witness, the May 29 missile test eventually was carried out with ship-fired missiles but they failed to intercept a medium-range ballistic missile target.

 

The U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor made this statement at the time, saying it was-

 

"aware of the Russian vessel operating in international waters in the vicinity of Hawai’i, and will continue to track it through the duration of its time here. Through maritime patrol aircraft, surface ships and joint capabilities, we can closely monitor all vessels in the Indo-Pacific area of operations."

 

A few days later, US Air Force F-22 jets made two sudden flights out of Hawaii with the Indo-Pacific Command eventually acknowledging that "several Russian ships and aircraft" were 200 miles to the west of the Hawaiian Islands and the F-22s had been sent out to keep watch on them.

 

The "several ships and aircraft" turned out to be the largest Russian naval maneuvers in the Pacific since the end of the Cold War.

Poll: The real reason Republicans are so riled up about 'critical race theory'

 

Conservatives claim that schools are indoctrinating students in β€œcritical race theory.” Liberals argue that conservatives don’t even know what critical race theory is β€” and that if they did, they’d realize teachers aren’t actually exposing kids to it.

 

But a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll suggests that the roiling culture war over so-called CRT isn’t about whether today’s schoolchildren are suddenly probing the complexities of an academic approach to race that originated among legal scholars in the mid-1970s.

 

Rather, the clash over CRT β€” aside from whatever the term now connotes in the public imagination β€” appears to be a supercharged spinoff of a deeper dispute between conservatives and pretty much every other group in the United States.

 

According to the poll, the right largely believes that racism is personal β€” the product of one individual discriminating against another. The rest of the country mostly agrees that racism is systemic β€” a force that continues to harm people of color, regardless of how isolated individuals treat them.

 

And therein lies the disagreement over what kids should learn in school.

 

The survey of 1,592 U.S. adults, which was conducted from June 22 to 24, set out to determine how closely the public’s opinion of the term β€œcritical race theory” aligns with a central idea behind it. To do that, Yahoo News and YouGov asked respondents whether they’d β€œheard of critical race theory” β€” and followed up with the ones who had heard of it by asking if β€œcritical race theory is something students should be exposed to in school.”

 

It turns out only about half of Americans (52 percent) are even familiar with the term "critical race theory," according to the poll, and political engagement is likely to account for that exposure. As Time magazine reported in a recent cover story, β€œconservative advocacy groups, legal organizations and state legislatures” have β€œmounted a campaign to weaponize” the term because they believe that β€œfighting it will be a winning electoral message.”

 

As a result, awareness is much higher among white Americans who identify as conservative (71 percent) or liberal (70 percent) than it is among white moderates (48 percent), African Americans (42 percent) or Latino Americans (39 percent).

 

Given the sharply polarized, cable-news-driven nature of the current feud, it’s little surprise, then, that the people who say they’re familiar with the term also tend to say they don’t want it in schools. Overall, 49 percent of those who have heard of CRT are against β€œexposing” students to it; 37 percent favor exposure.

 

Some groups disagree, of course, including Democrats (by a 76 percent to 9 percent margin), Black Americans (62 percent to 23 percent) and 18- to 29-year-olds (53 percent to 23 percent). But within most demographics, those who’ve heard of CRT β€” including people 45 or older as well as independents (who oppose exposing students to it by a 55 percent to 29 percent margin) β€” do not.

 

The interesting thing is what happens β€” and, more to the point, what doesn’t happen β€” when you dissociate one of CRT’s main tenets from the hot-button term.

 

To do that, Yahoo News and YouGov also asked β€” before ever mentioning β€œcritical race theory,” so as not to influence the answers β€” whether respondents agreed or disagreed with the concept that β€œracism is not merely the product of individual bias or prejudice, but also something embedded in legal systems and policies.” We then asked if that concept is β€œsomething students should be exposed to in schools.”

 

That particular wording, it’s worth noting, wasn’t chosen at random. Here’s how the Florida Department of Education’s new policy prohibiting β€œthe teaching of Critical Race Theory” in public schools β€” one of dozens of similar measures introduced in Republican-controlled states this spring, and one of at least six that have been enacted β€” defines the term: β€œthe theory that racism is not merely the product of prejudice, but that racism is embedded in American society and its legal systems.”

I just read an article in my old hometown. Ex-director of the National Security Agency (NSA), Michael Hayden, has condemned House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after he called for a probe into claims Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson was spied.

 

The Fox host said on Monday he had been informed by a government whistleblower that the NSA had been reading "our electronic communications, our emails and texts," and that it planned to leak them "in an effort to hurt us."

 

In response, the NSA outlined its organizational priorities in dismissing Carlson's claims, saying in a statement that had a "foreign intelligence mission" and that with "limited exceptions" it would never target a U.S. citizen without a court order.

 

"Tucker Carlson has never been an intelligence target of the Agency and the NSA has never had any plans to take his program off the air," the NSA statement said.

 

Carlson then called the agency's response a "paragraph of lies," which he said "does not deny" his claims.

 

McCarthy addressed Carlson's allegations in a statement on Wednesday and said he had "serious questions" for the NSA.

 

Hayden, who served as the NSA head between 1999 and 2005, took a dim view of McCarthy's statement.

 

He shared this with his 300,000 Twitter followers, adding the message: "You're an a**hole."

 

As of Thursday morning, the curt tweet had been liked nearly 18,000 times, and retweeted more than 3,000 times.

 

Hayden is a retired United States Air Force four-star general, who served as Director of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) between 2006 and 2009.

 

He also served as principal deputy Director of National Intelligence.

 

Last year, he told CNN, where he is a national security analyst, that he endorsed Joe Biden for president and said that the re-election of ex-President Donald Trump would be "very bad for America."

 

In his statement, McCarthy addressed Carlson's claims while also taking other issues with actions of the agency.

 

"Now, there is a public report that NSA read the emails of Fox News host Tucker Carlson," McCarthy said in his statement, "although NSA publicly denied targeting Carlson, I have serious questions regarding this matter that must be answered,"

 

McCarthy said he had asked Rep. Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, "to investigate and find answers on behalf of the American people."

 

He suggested the accusations tie in with what he branded a pattern of the "politicization of the Agency," which included "the sidelining of Michael Ellis as NSA General Counsel."

 

McCarthy urged Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, to restore Ellis, who resigned in April after he said he had been placed on administrative leave, "without any explanation," according to The Washington Post.

 

Newsweek has contacted McCarthy's office and the NSA for comment.

Regarding CNN, in 1996 we took the tour of CNN/weather channel. Our tour guide was relaying insider jokes and stories. One story he told us, was when a TWC reporter was supposed β€œon location” in some remote area, and reporting back and forth with the studio. Meet the Anti-MAGA Trolls

 

Late in the evening on Christmas Day, the lawyer and Donald Trump loyalist Lin Wood tweeted an elaborate infographic stating his views about the upcoming U.S. Senate runoff election in Georgia. The final tally would be corrupted by Dominion voting machines, it said, and the only way to expose the fraud would be to boycott the election. That would β€œbreak the algorithm” by producing a result in which the GOP candidates would receive fewer than zero votesβ€”and then the Supreme Court would have β€œno choice” but to overturn the presidential election, while someone would have no choice but to arrest Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, as well as Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler and the other GOP candidate, David Perdue. β€œI just want an HONEST election,” Wood wrote above the image. β€œDon’t you?”

 

The next day, on Reddit, the members of a vaguely leftist community called r/ParlerTrick started celebrating. One of them had created the infographic out of whole cloth, with the hopes that it would be picked up in right-wing internet spaces and persuade Trump supporters not to vote in the runoff. That Wood had come across it and shared it himself was a far wilder result than they could have hoped for. Still, most of them avoided breaking character in their posts. β€œWe must have fair elections. We must know the Truth!!!” one wrote. β€œLet every nasty democRAT vote while true patriots stay home and trust the plan!” wrote another. The fact that Wood was calling for the arrests of various Georgia political figures was soon covered by Yahoo News, Business Insider, and other bloggy mainstream outlets, with no mention of the way the thought had been incepted into his tweets.

 

That wasn’t an ordinary day in r/ParlerTrick, but it is representative of the group’s culture. Members of the forumβ€”which was created shortly after the 2020 election and is named after the social-media app Parlerβ€”pretend to be prototypical social-media β€œpatriots” in order to sow confusion in right-wing online spaces. They boosted the hashtag #DeleteParler as part of an effort to convince other Parler users that the app is a β€œwholly-owned project of the FBI” and that everything posted there is subject to surveillance by the β€œDeep State.” In the days following the Capitol riot, they spread a rumor that anyone who attended would be pardoned by Trump if they turned themselves in before the end of his term. Recently, r/ParlerTrick subscribers signed up for free tickets to an event hosted at the Iowa Corn Palace by the MyPillow CEO and Trump loyalist Mike Lindell in order to limit actual attendance, and then congratulated themselves on their choices of fake names: Harry Sach, Yura Dumas, Ann T. Fa.

 

At first glance, the forum’s whole deal can be difficult to discern. When I first reached out to its moderator team, r/ParlerTrick’s creator replied, β€œCan you please stop being racist about reddit and swearing about it thank you.” Several weeks later, after he agreed to an interview, I asked him what that message even meant. β€œWe kind of wanted to keep it a little cryptic,” he told me, also sort of cryptically. Then he asked to go by his middle name, Michael, because he and the other moderators are often harassed and sometimes receive death threats.

 

Michael and his compatriots are targets on account of their participation in one of the most visible and active forums in a new online ecosystem dedicated to surveilling and poking the MAGA universe. (In other subreddits, members boast of messing with those on the conspiracy-theory-hotbed platform MeWe and the QAnon-favored chat app Telegram.) These forums signify an important cultural shift: For the past five years or so, internet trolls have been among the most hated and feared actors in American politics, blamed for the rise of Trump and the sad triumph of ironic bigotry. Then an upswell of leftist trolling started attracting attention last summer, when the hacking collective Anonymous returned after years of dormancy and coordinated, internet-based pranks were adopted as part of the political tool kits of K-pop fans, TikTok kids, and random coalitions of Twitter users.

The question is whether all of these anti-MAGA trolls represent a corrective counterforce or a misguided reaction. β€œEven the most ethically oriented troll is always going to be controversial because it uses deception,” says Gabriella Coleman, a cultural anthropologist known for her research on Anonymous. Trolling is also chaotic as a rule. β€œThese campaigns spiral,” she told me.

 

The Parler trolls on Reddit first got together in a forum called r/ParlerWatch. It was imagined as a small space for like-minded Redditors to share the most out-there things they’d seen on Parler, and to come up with ways to mess with the people who were sincerely posting on the app. But it grew quickly, gaining about 16,000 members in its first week, and its creator, Sloaneβ€”who asked to go by his middle name for the same reasons as Michaelβ€”decided to steer the forum in a more serious direction. Now, instead of hatching practical jokes, its 150,000 members focus on surveilling the Trump-loyalist internet and organizing moments of β€œarmchair activism,” such as combing through Parler data scraped from the site after the Capitol riot and sending tips to the FBI. β€œMonitoring right-wing spaces online has always been kind of a hobby of mine,” Sloane told me.

 

Members who still wanted to do anti-MAGA trolling, led by Michael, went on to form a spin-off group with Sloane’s blessing: r/ParlerTrick. The members of the smaller forum discussed their forays into far-right spaces, where they posed as caricatures of liberals and riled people up to no real end. Later, they experimented with using the language and framing of a MAGA diehard to push their own politics, including support for unions, but this ended up confusing everyone. Their messages on Parler would sometimes get reposted as screenshots in r/ParlerWatch and discussed as if they were authentic right-wing activity. Eventually, the whole subreddit became a role-playing game, Michael told me. β€œWe started having people coming in not knowing if it was real or not, which is perfect,” he said. The members now call themselves β€œpatriots” and disavow liberals with every sentence. As role-playing games go, it’s low-effort: At the time of the Georgia runoff election, they made a meme of Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue that said simply, β€œThey know what they did to Donald Trump.” It was shared by Trump fans on Parler hundreds of times, though no one actually had any idea what Kelly Loeffler or David Perdue might have done to Donald Trump.

Trolling used to be the pastime of a subculture that considered itself apolitical, and that claimed to be interested in provoking everyone. But for Michael and Sloane, the jokes are part of how they practice their politicsβ€”the only fun part, they say. Similarly, many politically minded young people have come of age with an innate understanding of how antisocial behavior online can be used to win attention for and participation in a chosen cause. β€œTrolling has a long and noble history, and shitposting can be useful,” says Talia Lavin, the author of Culture Warlords: My Journey Into the Dark Web of White Supremacy. She took part in an attempt to troll Trump’s β€œVoter Fraud Hotline,” she told me, by submitting a long video in which she described being intimidated by the sexual attractiveness of an antifa operative at her polling place.

 

But trolling can have especially unpredictable results when it engages with hateful rhetoric and conspiratorial thinking. It might even help spread and amplify misinformation or extremist beliefs. Some r/ParlerTrick members, for example, created memes that, per Michael, had β€œsome racist stuff” in them, or might have stoked β€œunnecessary hate.” The forum has struggled with this issue, he said. β€œIt’s a thin line. You have to really pay attention to what you’re doing.”

The problem that needs fixing, say the people who spend hours monitoring the MAGA world, is that the MAGA world has gotten so hard to see.

 

The more radical of Trump’s supporters were largely pushed off mainstream social-media platforms last summer and fall, as the result of an industry-wide crackdown on election misinformation and QAnon activity. They joined sites such as Parler, Telegram, MeWe, and TheDonald.win because that’s where other, further-right actors had gone when they were banned from Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. With that, an ideological divide became a literal separation across platforms. β€œThe Balkanization of the internet is what led to r/ParlerWatch,” Sloane said. β€œThat’s exactly why these watchdog groups started around the 2020 election cycle.”

 

While the sequestering of the MAGA internet has made surveillance of far-right ideas seem more important, it has also made trolling MAGA diehards easier (and, for some, more fun). An excursion onto a platform like Parler can be exactly that for prankstersβ€”a quick trip behind enemy lines, where you know you’ll find a target-rich environment, and where your mischief might be less likely to cause collateral damage. (Parler, for its part, seems to welcome the additional activity. An updated set of community guidelines added in February specifically allows β€œtrolling content.”) But constant engagement with the ideas that gain the most traction on Parler and similar platforms might still have risks for the people who are trolling. When I asked Michael whether he thought r/ParlerTrick members could ever role-play themselves into having actual hateful beliefs, he expressed concern but in an unconcerned tone of voice. β€œYou have to be aware of that,” he said. β€œYou have to really be thinking and conscious in the moment and know what you’re looking at.”

Some of the anti-MAGA trolls’ motivations are obscure. In a smaller subreddit called r/MeWeTrolling, created in February, one highly active user who calls himself a β€œtrolling expert” regularly shares dramatic confrontations he’s had in character with right-wing users of MeWe. This poster is the star of the show, and he receives accolades from commenters who suggest that he upgrade his title to β€œtrolling legend” or β€œtrolling god emperor.” Recently, a new member pointed out the high degree of absurdity in this troll’s exploits, and cautiously suggested that he might be playing both characters in his β€œinteractions.”

 

This ambiguity could be the biggest problem with trolling as a political tactic. It’s obviously a game, but what are the prizes? Lavin said that when trolling is publicly coordinated, it tends to work better; Coleman added that campaigns like that are more transparentβ€”they’re built less on sustained deception than on participatory spectacle. A public call to spam a militia-recruiting site or to humiliate a politician who’s blaming β€œwoke ideology” for ruining the military invites a different sort of game, with clearer boundaries than an online space for posing as nationalism-addled β€œpatriots.” When I asked Michael if he ever feels overwhelmed by the subterfuge and irony, he said yes. Sometimes when the r/ParlerTrick people go out to troll, they come back confused. β€œWe’re probably in communication with other trolls, who are trolling back to us,” he said. β€œIt’s like seven layers of troll, and there’s actually no real discourse happening at all.”

Pigeon racing enthusiasts throughout the United Kingdom are scratching their heads over a mysterious turn of events wherein thousands of birds vanished during different races that took place on the same day. The very weird case reportedly unfolded on Saturday, June 19th as approximately four dozen events were being held in various communities across the UK. The competitions feature specially-trained homing pigeons that are released with the goal of traveling over a considerable distance to a proverbial finish line. On this particular weekend, however, things took a bizarre turn in what one enthusiast reportedly described as "one of the very worst ever racing days in our history."

 

It is believed that around 250,000 birds were released during the different events that day and, strangely, only an estimated ten percent of the pigeons ever returned to their respective owners. One bewildered trainer who participated in a race lamented that "of the 1,400 that went out, only about 200 to 300 made it home." Although Dene Simpson initially thought that perhaps the disappearance of the birds was an isolated incident, he quickly realized that the entire pigeon racing community was talking about something strange that had occurred that day. "When we looked on social media later on," the trainer explained, "we saw that lots of other federations around the UK had experienced something similar."

 

To that end, approximately 5,000 pigeons are believed to have gone missing from a different race in England, while a trainer in another community lamented that around 300 of the birds had vanished during an event held at the same time. All told, a staggering number of the animals are believed to have been lost over the course of the day and their heartbroken trainers are at a loss to explain what could have happened.

 

Since homing pigeons rely on the Earth's magnetic field for guidance, it is suspected that some kind of solar event may have disrupted their natural navigation system. This would seem to be bolstered by the fact that some of the birds have since returned, while others have been turned up in unexpected locations like Holland and Majorca.

The US and British navies' newest submarines are equipped with totally different kinds of periscopes

 

Few parts of a submarine are as iconic as the periscope.

 

For over a century, periscopes have been sub commanders' window to the outside world, allowing them to check their surroundings, find targets, and assess their attacks.

 

But that fundamental feature of the submariner's world may soon be a relic.

 

The US and UK are both are fielding submarines equipped with new photonic and optronic masts that replace the periscope entirely while ensuring submariners can still see their targets on the surface.

 

Lenses, mirrors, and prisms are being replaced with sensors, cameras, and fiber optics, and it is changing submarine designs for the better.

 

Traditional periscopes service a vital purpose, but they are bulky and take up a lot of space in a submarine's already cramped interior.

 

In order to be effective, the well of the periscope has to run the entire height of a submarine. This limits how the sub's sail and the compartments below can be laid out, as they need to have room for the massive metal pylon running through them.

Looks like CBD doesn't fits into anything. So therefore it is only speculation that it does anything other than induce a placebo effect.

They don't even know what it's doing but yet promote it. Any study should be able to determine what if any receptors CBD would fit into and the effects. If not it's all BS.

So why push it ? Think alternatives. CBD isn't the end game.

 

The real push behind legalizing POT is just another attempt at the DS to pacify the masses, cause more addiction and weaken society. The reality States are allowing "Full Spectrum " CBD on rthe market that still contains THC. Those CBD products produce an effect because the THC is modulating the brain function via dopamine and it's receptors in the brain to block the pain etc.; just like opioids vs. plain 100% CBD.

 

So don't fool yourself if taking "Full Spectrum CBD" YOUR TAKING THC! Where do you think that will lead?

 

The idea of using POT to treat opioid addiction is replacing one addiction with another POT replacing opioids …idiots.

 

Take a moment and think of what is really happening to all the THC that is being extracted to produce plain CBD. "Sure, they throw it away ." Wait for it THC via FDA approval as an alternative to opioids $$$$$$$$.
