400+ Americans still stranded in Afghanistan, Pentagon confirms

Nearly two months since President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal and evacuation from Afghanistan, hundreds of Americans are still stuck in the now Taliban-controlled Middle Eastern nation, the Pentagon’s top policy official told Congress on Tuesday.

While testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, the undersecretary of Defense for policy Colin Kahl said at least 196 Americans are immediately ready and waiting to leave Afghanistan and an additional 243 aren’t ready to leave or want to stay.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) and other GOP lawmakers on the committee said Kahl’s testimony proves that Biden did not live up to his vow to make sure no American citizens were left stranded in Afghanistan.

Kahl rejected the assertion, however, claiming that “nobody was abandoned.”

“We continue to get people out of Afghanistan, including American citizens,” he said, adding that the State Department has helped organize the evacuation of 240 Americans since September, plus another 157 green card holders. When those who arranged their own departures are tallied, at least 314 Americans and 266 lawful permanent residents have left Afghanistan, Kahl noted.

Kahl also pushed back against claims that keeping 2,500 American troops on the ground could have prevented the Taliban takeover.

“The president did not believe that 2,500 troops was a stable equilibrium,” Kahl told Sen. Angus King, I-Maine. “If we had kept at that level, he would have been under pressure to put in more.”

Despite the Taliban recently regaining power in the region as a result of Biden’s withdrawal, Kahl said the militant group is hesitant to allow terrorist activity to grow out of fear of international retaliation.

“The Taliban and ISIS-K are mortal enemies, so the Taliban is highly motivated to go after ISIS-K,” he said. However, the Taliban’s approach to handling al-Qaida is complicated, he continued, largely due to its relationship with the Haqqani network, a militant group based in Pakistan.

Kahl confirmed that the United States is working to establish formal agreements with neighboring nations from which the US military could conduct airborne operations into Afghanistan.

“We are in conversation with Pakistan to keep the air line of communication open,” Kahl said. “We have also had conversations with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.”

Additionally, Kahl said other nations are also worried about the potential increase in terrorist activity.

Did Jake Sullivan commit perjury? Emails reveal ‘lie’ on Trump

Jake Sullivan, national security adviser in the Biden administration, may be guilty of perjury related to the Hillary Clinton campaign’s dirty tricks against Donald Trump.

Last week, Michael A. Sussmann, a partner at Perkins Coie, a law firm representing the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements to the FBI about his clients and their motives behind planting the rumor, at the highest levels of the FBI, of a secret Trump-Russia server.

The indictment states that Sussmann, as well as the cyber experts recruited for the operation, “coordinated with representatives and agents of the Clinton campaign with regard to the data and written materials that Sussmann gave to the FBI and the media.”

One of those campaign agents was Sullivan, according to emails that special counsel John Durham obtained. On Sept. 15, 2016 — just four days before Sussmann handed off the materials to the FBI — Marc Elias, Sussmann’s law partner and fellow Democratic Party operative, “exchanged emails with the Clinton campaign’s foreign policy adviser concerning the Russian bank allegations,” as well as with other top campaign officials, the indictment states.

Sources close to the case confirmed the “foreign policy adviser” referenced by title is Sullivan.

They say Sullivan was briefed on the development of the opposition-research materials — which tried to allege that a “secret” server of the Trump organization was communicating with Russia’s Alfa Bank. The conspiracy theory, pushed by opposition firm Fusion GPS, was later dismissed, as the “communication” was likely marketing emails.

Yet Sullivan maintained in congressional testimony in December 2017 that he didn’t know of Fusion’s involvement in the Alfa Bank opposition research. In the same closed-door testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, he also denied knowing anything about Fusion in 2016 or who was conducting the opposition research for the campaign.

“Marc [Elias] … would occasionally give us updates on the opposition research they were conducting, but I didn’t know what the nature of that effort was — inside effort, outside effort, who was funding it, who was doing it, anything like that,” Sullivan stated under oath.

Sullivan also testified he didn’t know that Perkins Coie, the law firm where Elias and Sussmann were partners, was working for the Clinton campaign until October 2017, when it was reported in the media as part of stories revealing the campaign’s contract with Fusion, which also produced the so-called Steele dossier.

Sullivan maintained he didn’t even know that the politically prominent Elias worked for Perkins Coie, a well-known Democratic law firm. Major media stories from 2016 routinely identified Elias as “general counsel for the Clinton campaign” and a “partner at Perkins Coie.”

“To be honest with you, Marc wears a tremendous number of hats, so I wasn’t sure who he was representing,” Sullivan testified. “I sort of thought he was, you know, just talking to us as, you know, a fellow traveler in this — in this campaign effort.”

Although he acknowledged knowing Elias and his partner were marshaling opposition researchers for a campaign project targeting Trump, Sullivan insisted, “They didn’t do something with it.”

In truth, they used the research to instigate a full-blown investigation at the FBI and seed a number of stories in the Washington media, which Elias discussed in emails.

In fact, on the eve of the election, Sullivan put out a written campaign statement that claimed Trump and the Russians had set up a “secret hotline” through Alfa Bank and he suggested “federal authorities” were investigating “this direct connection between Trump and Russia.” He portrayed the shocking discovery as the work of independent experts — “computer scientists” — without disclosing their attachment to the Clinton campaign.

“This could be the most direct link yet between Donald Trump and Moscow,” Sullivan said.

Lying to Congress is a felony. Though the offense is rarely prosecuted, former special counsel Robert Mueller won convictions of two of Trump’s associates on charges of that very offense.

An attorney for Sullivan did not respond to questions, while a spokeswoman for the National Security Council declined comment.

Former NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro was on the witness stand at ICAC on Monday and Sophie Callan, SC, didn’t hold back and repeatedly asked Mr Barilaro whether he had declared all “intimate personal relationships” while he was an MP. Mr Barilaro didn’t do himself any favours by ducking and weaving and failing to give a straight answer to the question even though he was asked multiple times as per the below video.

John Barilaro’s week will likely go from bad to worse as per the below video where I pointed out that John Barilaro will be in the witness stand at ICAC on Monday, at mediation for his defamation case against Friendlyjordies in the Federal Court on Tuesday & Barilaro’s former staffer, Siobhan Hamblin, will be in the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for non-compliance with a subpoena and she is also facing a possible contempt charge.

So, rumours about John Barilaro and female staffers and others are no secret and as I say in the above video there are 2 main benefits for Gladys Berejiklian if she names John Barilaro and possibly other MP’s having undeclared intimate personal relationships. Firstly, Gladys doesn’t look as bad for concealing her relationship with former MP Daryl Maguire if others have done similar.

And secondly, all the witnesses have so far said that Gladys Berejiklian should have declared her relationship with Daryl Maguire and that they would have acted differently in awarding the $5.5 million grant if they had known. But if it can be proven they knew about other conflicts of interests involving others such as John Barilaro having relationships with staffers, and they took no action then their credibility as a witness against Gladys Berejiklian is greatly damaged.

As it stands Gladys Berejiklian has no friends in the Liberal Party and National Party as politicians and staffers from both parties have lined up at ICAC, last week and this week, to throw her under a bus so she has nothing to lose by going the nuclear option and naming other MP’s who have had affairs and failed to declare the affairs when there has been a conflict of interest.

Chicago police officers and employees with the city’s building department were taking pictures inside the Parlor Pizza restaurant, 405 N. Dearborn.

Investigators were also at the restaurant’s Wicker Park location, 1824 W Division St and the West Loop location, 108 N. Green. Agents were seen sitting inside the West Loop shop with stacks of boxes, CBS 2’s Jackie Kostek reports. Investigators spent several hours inside the three locations, which remained closed on Wednesday.

Employees who showed up to work in River North are locked out and had no idea what was going on, CBS 2’s Tara Molina reported.

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Revenue said: “In the event of potential violations of the Illinois Tax Act and related offenses, our Bureau of Criminal Investigations will investigate potential violations. The Illinois Department of Revenue cannot comment on ongoing investigations, however, or their existence.”

An official with Chicago’s Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Department said the restaurants have active, applicable licenses and “are in good standing.” The Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was not part of today’s action.

An attorney for Pizza Parlor declined to comment.

In 2017, Parlor Pizza was sued in federal court for failing to pay overtime wages for former dishwashers.

That matter was settled in February, 2018.

Graves discovered under Sydney's Central Station

A 181-year-old burial vault has been uncovered underneath Sydney's Central Station.

The discovery comes during the excavations for the new metro platforms at the site.

A search is now underway for the descendants of two colonial Sydney families buried in the vault.

The vault contains 11 graves.

The NSW Government has urged descendants to get in touch.

"We're inviting any relatives or descendants of the Perry or Ham families to make contact with Sydney Metro team for further information," Mr Stokes said.

This is the second grave with a legible nameplate to be uncovered during construction work on the new Sydney Metro platforms.

A search uncovered the descendants of Joseph Thompson whose 1858 nameplate was also discovered in a grave during Central station excavations in 2019.

Later this year his remains will be reinterred at the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park.

Central Station was once the Devonshire Street Cemetery, which was closed in 1867, explaining the discovery of the graves.

All three Parlor Pizza Bar locations in Chicago were raided by investigators on Wednesday.

The Chicago Police Department confirmed with FOX 32 News that the Illinois Department of Revenue Criminal Investigation Unit is the lead on the case and that CPD is assisting.

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Revenue said they investigate potential tax violations.

AG Garland refuses to retract controversial school board memo during Senate hearing

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to “resign in disgrace” after an intense exchange over Garland’s controversial school board memo during a Wednesday hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Arkansas Republican began his line of questioning by pointing attention to the National Institutes of Health admitting to funding gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at China’s Wuhan lab — despite Fauci repeatedly insisting to Congress that no such thing happened.

“Are you investigating Tony Fauci for lying to Congress?” Cotton asked.

“A long time rule in the Justice Department, not to discuss pending investigations, potential investigations,” Garland responded, before Cotton quickly shifted his inquiries to the memo, which announced that federal law enforcement would be involved in investigations pertaining to parents protesting local school boards.

After asking if the attorney general consulted with senior leadership at the Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to releasing the memo, Cotton asked Garland if anyone at the agency expressed “any doubt, or disagreement, or hesitation.”

“No one expressed that to me, no one to me,” Garland said.

“A lot of FBI officials have contacted my office and said that they oppose this decision right now,” Cotton fired back.

Garland repeated that no one expressed any disagreement directly to him.

Cotton proceeded to blast the attorney general for avoiding simple questions asked throughout the hearing, including why the National Security Division is being included in a task force for the investigation.

“What is the National Security Division — judge the national — these are the people, they’re supposed to be chasing jihadists and Chinese spies, what’s the National Security Division have to do with parents at school boards?” Cotton pressed.

“This is not, again, about parents at school boards. It’s about threats of violence,” Garland said.

“Let me turn to that because you’ve said that phrase repeatedly throughout the morning threats or violence and threats of violence, violence and threats of violence,” Cotton replied.

“We’ve heard it a dozen times this morning. As Senator Lee pointed out, the very first line in your October 4 memorandum refers to harassment and intimidation. Why do you continue to dissemble from this committee that you’re only talking about violence and threats of violence, when your memo says harassment and intimidation?”

“I said it in my testimony that it involved other kinds of criminal conduct. And the — and I explained to Senator Lee that the statutory definitions of those terms and the constitutional definitions of those terms involved threats of violence,” Garland said.

Cotton and Garland continued to spat back and forth over the memo, and eventually began to discuss a sexual assault case that was reportedly covered up by school board members in Loudoun County, Virginia, a case Garland was unable to answer questions about when appearing before the House, saying he wasn’t “familiar” with the case.

This week, the 15-year-old Virginia boy has been found guilty of the sexual assault that led to his victim’s dad being arrested and branded a “domestic terrorist,” while protesting it at a school board meeting.

Cotton asked Garland if he would apologize to the father of the girl involved in the incident.

The paper added that an investigation is underway to figure out what went down as part of Hazard High School's "Man Pageant" and "Costume Day," the paper said, citing the school's Facebook page.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Police raided a popular pizza restaurant’s three locations on Wednesday morning, assisting the Illinois Department of Revenue with an unspecified criminal investigation, sources told CBS 2.

Chicago police officers and employees with the city’s building department were taking pictures inside the Parlor Pizza restaurant, 405 N. Dearborn.

Parlor Pizza is tied to a state investigation with police and investigator presence at locations now.

Investigators were also at the restaurant’s Wicker Park location, 1824 W Division St and the West Loop location, 108 N. Green. Agents were seen sitting inside the West Loop shop with stacks of boxes, CBS 2’s Jackie Kostek reports. Investigators spent several hours inside the three locations, which remained closed on Wednesday.

Employees who showed up to work in River North are locked out and had no idea what was going on, CBS 2’s Tara Molina reported.

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Revenue said: “In the event of potential violations of the Illinois Tax Act and related offenses, our Bureau of Criminal Investigations will investigate potential violations. The Illinois Department of Revenue cannot comment on ongoing investigations, however, or their existence.”

An official with Chicago’s Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Department said the restaurants have active, applicable licenses and “are in good standing.” The Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was not part of today’s action.

An attorney for Pizza Parlor declined to comment.

In 2017, Parlor Pizza was sued in federal court for failing to pay overtime wages for former dishwashers.

That matter was settled in February, 2018.

Ted Cruz Grills Merrick Garland Over Alleged Conflict Of Interest Regarding His Son-In-Law’s Education Company

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz grilled Attorney General Merrick Garland on an alleged conflict of interest regarding his son-in-law’s education company during a Wednesday hearing.

During the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing with Garland, Cruz cited reports that Garland’s son-in-law profits from an education company that promotes concepts associated with critical race theory. Garland has denied any conflict of interest between his son-in-law’s business and the NSBA messaging.

Cruz asked the attorney general if he sought and received a decision from an ethics adviser at the Department of Justice (DOJ) before making a decision that could financially benefit his son-in-law.

“Yes or no did you seek an ethics opinion? Did you seek an ethics opinion? General are you refusing to answer if you sought an ethics opinion?” Cruz asked Garland.

Garland was cut off as he was saying that the memorandum directing the FBI to target the growing movement of parents protesting school boards has nothing to do with critical race theory, to which Cruz said: “So you’re saying no!? Just answer it directly. You know how to answer a question directly. Did you seek an ethics opinion?”

“I’m telling you that if I thought there was any reason to believe there was a conflict of interest,” Garland responded.

“Why do you refuse to answer the question? Why don’t you just say no?” Cruz added.

“If critical race theory is taught in more schools does your son-in-law make more money? Yes or no?” Cruz pressed Garland, to which he did not receive a response.

Garland’s son-in-law is reportedly the co-founder of Panorama Education, Inc., a company that reportedly publishes and sells critical race theory materials and works with school districts across the U.S. to obtain and analyze data on students.

Panorama Education reaches 12 million K-12 students in 21,000 schools, its website states. The company conducts student screening surveys that ask questions like, “How confident are you that students at your school can have honest conversations with each other about race?” and “How often do you think about what someone of a different race, ethnicity, or culture experiences?”

“The Biden DOJ has embraced Critical Race Theory. AG Garland’s son-in-law makes big money from a company involved in teaching CRT. So I asked the AG if he sought an ethics opinion. He refused to answer my question. Apparently ethics aren’t a high priority in the Biden admin,” Cruz said in a tweet.

Many of you don't know this, but because of the work we've done in Maricopa we've been sued a number of times. Specifically, these lawsuit(s) have attempted to classify Cyber Ninjas as a "public entity" so that I am subject to public records requests (also known as "right to know" or "freedom of information act" requests).

Specifically, these request(s) have demanded all communications I have with everyone including a roster of every person involved in the audit, and all details on audit financing.

I have nothing to hide and have chosen to disclose financial details once; and I will do so again as soon as I have time to finish the project financials. However, disclosing communications including a roster of people have much larger implications and set a precedent I can't let exist.

The 1st amendment grants us the right to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. The Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments protect us against government seizures of private documents and property. These rights have routinely been found in the courts to further give the right to be associated with whoever you want to be associated with. It is a fundamental liberty of a free society. Yet, cancel culture attacks this very fundamental right.

The seeking of private communications from a private company is a violation of these rights. The seeking of a roster of people who worked on the audit I can't see utilized for any other purpose than to again violate those rights. And we believe the law is clear that only documents which the government creates or owns are considered public records—but the government does not own my company’s documents and did not create them, so they are not public record. For these reasons, amongst others, I am fighting these lawsuits in court. If I lose this could mean that ANYONE who does ANY business with the government can be required to give up their communications at any time. We've already seen with the federal vaccine mandate for federal contractors how many people that really impacts.

So, what can you do about it?

1) Please pray for the situation. Pray that our Country would return to the foundation on which it was built. Pray that these judges would see clearly what is in front of them; and would choose what is right. Pray that our nation would turn from its broken ways, humble itself, and pray to God.

2) Please consider politely and nicely making your voices heard with these organizations letting them know you do not support their actions. I do not condone any type of rude or threatening behavior. Follow Proverbs 25:21 and win them over from your niceness. You may even consider sending them a public records request to make the point.

The plaintiffs on the lawsuit against me are:

Phoenix Newspapers, Inc (which owns the Arizona Republic and is owned by Gannet Co, owner of USA Today and newspapers across the country)

The plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the Senate is a group called American Oversight.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Strong, credible allegations of high-level criminal activity can bring down a government. When the government lacks an effective, fact-based defense, other techniques must be employed. The success of these techniques depends heavily upon a cooperative, compliant press and a mere token opposition party.

Dummy up. If it's not reported, if it's not news, it didn't happen.
Wax indignant. This is also known as the "How dare you?" gambit.
Characterize the charges as "rumors" or, better yet, "wild rumors." If, in spite of the news blackout, the public is still able to learn about the suspicious facts, it can only be through "rumors." (If they tend to believe the "rumors" it must be because they are simply "paranoid" or "hysterical.")
Knock down straw men. Deal only with the weakest aspects of the weakest charges. Even better, create your own straw men. Make up wild rumors (or plant false stories) and give them lead play when you appear to debunk all the charges, real and fanciful alike.
Call the skeptics names like "conspiracy theorist," "nutcase," "ranter," "kook," "crackpot," and, of course, "rumor monger." Be sure, too, to use heavily loaded verbs and adjectives when characterizing their charges and defending the "more reasonable" government and its defenders. You must then carefully avoid fair and open debate with any of the people you have thus maligned. For insurance, set up your own "skeptics" to shoot down.
Impugn motives. Attempt to marginalize the critics by suggesting strongly that they are not really interested in the truth but are simply pursuing a partisan political agenda or are out to make money (compared to over-compensated adherents to the government line who, presumably, are not).
Invoke authority. Here the controlled press and the sham opposition can be very useful.
Dismiss the charges as "old news."
Come half-clean. This is also known as "confession and avoidance" or "taking the limited hangout route." Require the skeptics to solve the crime completely. E.g. If Foster was murdered, who did it and why?
Change the subject. This technique includes creating and/or publicizing distractions.
Lightly report incriminating facts, and then make nothing of them. This is sometimes referred to as "bump and run" reporting.
Baldly and brazenly lie. A favorite way of doing this is to attribute the "facts" furnished the public to a plausible-sounding, but anonymous, source.
Expanding further on numbers 4 and 5, have your own stooges "expose" scandals and champion popular causes. Their job is to pre-empt real opponents and to play 99-yard football. A variation is to pay rich people for the job who will pretend to spend their own money.
Flood the Internet with agents. This is the answer to the question, "What could possibly motivate a person to spend hour upon hour on Internet news groups defending the government and/or the press and harassing genuine critics?" Don t the authorities have defenders enough in all the newspapers, magazines, radio, and television? One would think refusing to print critical letters and screening out serious callers or dumping them from radio talk shows would be control enough, but, obviously, it is not.

With the study of history in America's schools and universities being replaced with "social studies", "multiculturalism", and other pseudo-scientific and "sensitive" approaches to the study of the human condition, one of the time-honored features of the traditional history course is also likely to go out the window, and it will be a pity. That is the challenging "compare and contrast" essay question that we never had enough time to do full justice to on final exams. A well- crafted "c&c" allowed us to show what we did or didn't know about at least two historical events and, at the same time, forced us to think and to put things into perspective. Our only regret is that our professors seemed to leave almost all such analysis to callow students, engaging in much too little of it in their all-too-linear lectures.

To demonstrate the strength of the "compare and contrast" method in elucidating history,I propose herewith to apply it to the Dreyfus Affair, which began with the arrest of Captain Alfred Dreyfus in France on suspicion of treason in October of 1894, and the Vincent Foster case, which began with the discovery of the deputy White House counsel's body almost a hundred years later, on July 20, 1993. As the Dreyfus Affair disrupted France, the Foster death, and its handling by the authorities, has shown signs that it will haunt the U.S. government into the next century.

Perhaps too much has been made of the relationship between the official framing of Captain Dreyfus and French anti-Semitism. By regarding it so, we are able to distance ourselves from it, treating it as just one more example of the irrational behavior that mindless bigotry can engender or, alternatively, we are tempted to dismiss it as an episode which has been kept alive in history by the same powerful and influential people who keep reminding us of our collective guilt for allowing the Holocaust.

This is precisely the point Hu made last week, urging the US to “abandon the crazy idea that it can strike China and Russia, but they can’t strike it” and to remember how the Cold War-era doctrine of mutually assured destruction (MAD) helped defuse nuclear tensions.
