The situation right now - somebody's playing a game with us

The 8kun IP addresses are mostly back to a normal performance level with a failure rate of less than 10%. Not ideal but a lot better than it's been over the past couple of days. Also getting the occasional 404. However, there is one IP address which appears to be 90% dead (193.178.169.19) so we're not out of the woods yet. Ironically (or maybe not), we had a situation some months ago where all of the IP addresses stopped working except for this one. Hmm.

The Doorknob is the main entrance to Wonderland in Disney's 1951 animated feature film, Alice in Wonderland.

He lies at the very end of the rabbit hole that Alice fell through. Due to his small size, the only way to enter him is to drink from a special bottle of multi-flavored liquid that will shrink the drinker in size. The drinker also needs the key to unlock the Doorknob which is located on the same table as the liquid.

Background

Originally, the bottle that said 'Drink Me' was originally going to be the personified object Alice met in the beginning. But it was ultimately changed to the Doorknob. The 'Drink Me' bottle was planned to be voiced by Cliff Edwards, most known for voicing Jiminy Cricket.

Design

The Doorknob is, keeping true to his name, a sentient gold door handle. His escutcheon plate is shaped like an elongated trapezoid with a semi-circle bump on the bottom and a curly design on the top, giving the Doorknob the appearance of having a chin and hair, respectively. A gold screw on each bottom corner of the plate keeps the Doorknob attached to his door.

He has close-set, beady yellow eyes, and what seem to be black "eyebrows", though these may actually be engravings on the Doorknob's plate rather than hair. The Doorknob's prominent bulbous nose is actually the knob part of a doorknob, the part that is turned to open the door, something the Doorknob doesn't pretend to enjoy.His mouth is the keyhole part of a doorknob (as well as the Keyhole of Wonderland), though it is not fixed in place as it should be; the Doorknob has no problems moving his "lips" to talk.

Personality

The Doorknob is a generally nice character and was rather kind to the stranger that stumbled into Wonderland. However, he has a tendency to joke around during serious situations but is overall well-meaning. In addition to this, the Doorknob was one of the few characters in Wonderland to show any sympathy for Alice.

Appearances

Alice in Wonderland

The Doorknob was first seen inside a large empty room when Alice first landed in Wonderland. There, she asked to pass through his door but he stated that it was "Impassable" as she was too big. The Doorknob informs her to drink the bottle on the table to shrink herself. When Alice turned small, the Doorknob now claims to be locked and that she accidentally left the key atop the table (well it was that she didn't accidentally leave it on the table, because the Doorknob made it appear like magic, so Alice never actually touched the key).

Unable to reach it, the Doorknob suggests that she eat a sweet to make her grow larger. However, she grows far too large to the point where she becomes a giant. Her seemingly inescapable situation results in Alice having a breakdown and starts to cry. Her tears start to flood the room, to the dismay of the doorknob. He then sees the bottle and tells Alice. She drinks the bottle again and not only shrinks but traps herself in the bottle as well, traveling through the Doorknob's mouth and venturing further into the rest of Wonderland.

During the climax, Alice tries to escape the Queen of Hearts through the door, but it is still locked. The Doorknob tells her that she is already outside and just asleep. This one visit saves Alice, who awakens from the dream.

House of Mouse

The Doorknob makes two cameos in the episode series. In "Big Bad Wolf Daddy", the Doorknob was seen sitting at a table with Mickey's dressing room door. In "Thanks to Minnie", he responds, "Who's there?" when Goofy tries to tell a knock-knock joke, only for Goofy to give up and claim that knock-knock jokes stink, prompting the Doorknob to storm out of the club in disgust, taking Goofy's remark as "a personal slam on doors".

Other appearances

In Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the doorknob can be briefly spotted right at the part where Eddie Valiant twists his nose and closes the door to an unfinished bathroom in order to get away from Lena Hyena. He is brown in this appearance.

The doorknob also makes a cameo in Bonkers.

In Mickey Mouse Works, the Doorknob makes a cameo appearance in the cartoon "Locksmiths" when Mickey Mouse began opening several doors.

Much to their surprise, the Doorknob starts talking and tells them to try the bottle on the table, then goes back to sleep. Much later, Sora comes back to the room and defeats the Trickmaster. In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, when Roxas first visits Wonderland and enters the Bizarre Room, he is originally trying to find the White Rabbit that ran past him but finds the Doorknob instead. The Doorknob tells Roxas that the Rabbit drank from the bottle on the table. Roxas, being confused, asks the Doorknob about the White Rabbit and the door, but the Doorknob is fast asleep and won’t answer.

In Kingdom Hearts coded when Data-Sora speaks with the doorknob, it is sideways because of a glitch. Data-Sora then returns after he fixes the glitch.

Kinect: Disneyland Adventures

The doorknob makes a brief cameo in Chapter I of the Alice in Wonderland attraction as the player is going down the Rabbit Hole, he makes a brief cameo as the layer goes threw many doors.

A gynaecologist in Malaysia has created what he claims is the “world’s first unisex condom” made from a medical-grade material usually used to dress injuries.

The condom can be used by men and women, and is aimed at empowering people to take better control of their sexual health regardless of their sexual orientation, said doctor John Tang Ing Chinh, who works at the medical supplies firm Twin Catalyst.

He added that the Wondaleaf Unisex Condom was similar to a regular one, with an additional adhesive covering. The adhesive covering attaches to the vagina or penis and covers the adjacent area for protection, Dr Tang explained.

The company’s website claims the product, made with polyurethane, can be used both as an external and internal condom. The adhesive is only applied to one side of the condom, which can be reversed and used by either men or women, the doctor added.

The company claimed that the condom will “not hurt much” for those who keep their pubic area shaved. But for those who don't, the condom is made from “a special adhesive” that will not hurt if removed slowly.

Bachar, who served as White House advance lead and in the Treasury Department under former president Bill Clinton before joining the Clinton Global Initiative, also served on the national finance committee for Hillary Clinton's failed presidential campaign in 2016 and as an adviser to former governor John Hickenlooper (D., Colo.). His private sector career as a corporate attorney and cofounder of Empowerment Capital Management was focused on "socially responsible investing."

This is not the first time the socially responsible investor has been accused of serious wrongdoing. In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bachar allegedly pocketed nearly $2 million from health care companies that believed they were purchasing life-saving personal protective equipment such as masks and gowns.

According to a lawsuit filed by a Denver-based health care company, Bachar agreed to sell them 4,200 cases of N95 masks for $2.4 million in April 2020 but never delivered the masks and did not return their initial payment of $604,000. Over the summer, Bachar was ordered to pay nearly $4.5 million to the companies he allegedly defrauded but has yet to comply with the civil judgments against him.

In other words, a longtime Clinton associate was caught behaving like a longtime Clinton associate. It's weird how this keeps happening.

Found: Alternative IP address block for 8kun

So I cycled through all of the 8kun IP addresses to see if one or more of them actually work reliably instead of going dead every so often. Unfortunately, they all have a failure rate ranging from 1/3 to 1/20, varying over time. I don't know if geographical location is a factor. The end result is that your 8kun client may lock up occasionally, necessitating a reload. You may also get the "deleted or pruned" error message. These are the IP addresses currently assigned to 8kun:

94.103.81.80, 94.103.82.74, 94.103.94.73, 193.178.169.19, 195.2.92.96, 195.2.93.193

I have long suspected that Vanwanet has an entire address block that can be used to access 8kun. There are two other sites that I know to be Vanwanet clients, qagg.news (23.163.176.200) and dailystormer.su (23.163.176.229). Digging further, I find that the entire block of addresses from 23.163.176.200 to 23.163.176.230 inclusive belong to Vanwanet and any of them may be used for 8kun. The few that I tested extensively work reliably, unlike the IP addresses assigned to 8kun by the Vanwanet DNS server.

We can speculate as to why this is. Is Vanwanet deliberately sabotaging 8kun? Or is it the DDoS protection service which, as far as I know, is still DDoS-Guard (https://ddos-guard.net)?

Additionally, the posting server at sys.8kun.top has been slow to respond. The 8kun client is impatient and times out too soon with an error message saying that the "server took too long to respond". I'm experimenting to determine if switching the posting server to the alternative address block will help with that.
