So I cycled through all of the 8kun IP addresses to see if one or more of them actually work reliably instead of going dead every so often. Unfortunately, they all have a failure rate ranging from 1/3 to 1/20, varying over time. I don't know if geographical location is a factor. The end result is that your 8kun client may lock up occasionally, necessitating a reload. You may also get the "deleted or pruned" error message. These are the IP addresses currently assigned to 8kun:

94.103.81.80, 94.103.82.74, 94.103.94.73, 193.178.169.19, 195.2.92.96, 195.2.93.193

I have long suspected that Vanwanet has an entire address block that can be used to access 8kun. There are two other sites that I know to be Vanwanet clients, qagg.news (23.163.176.200) and dailystormer.su (23.163.176.229). Digging further, I find that the entire block of addresses from 23.163.176.200 to 23.163.176.230 inclusive belong to Vanwanet and any of them may be used for 8kun. The few that I tested extensively work reliably, unlike the IP addresses assigned to 8kun by the Vanwanet DNS server.

We can speculate as to why this is. Is Vanwanet deliberately sabotaging 8kun? Or is it the DDoS protection service which, as far as I know, is still DDoS-Guard (https://ddos-guard.net)?

Additionally, the posting server at sys.8kun.top has been slow to respond. The 8kun client is impatient and times out too soon with an error message saying that the "server took too long to respond". I'm experimenting to determine if switching the posting server to the alternative address block will help with that.

In a statement to local media, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said that it was "executing a court-authorized search… in furtherance of a federal investigation."

The agency said the raid was "in partnership" with the departments of Homeland Security and Commerce, U.S. Customs, the local sheriff and U.S. Navy criminal investigators, without giving more details.

KrebsOnSecurity, a cybersecurity news site, reported that PAX is under investigation due to signs its terminals were used in cyberattacks.

"The company is looking into the matter and will make further announcements as and when appropriate," a company spokesperson said.

An analyst who follows the company said he was told that the company's operations in Jacksonville, Florida returned to normal after the FBI raid.

"The full force of the U.S. apparatus is now aimed at China," said Paul Schulte, a former U.S. National Security Council analyst who now runs finance technology research company Schulte Research in Singapore. "The war on terror is over. The war on China has started. The systems will be unplugged one by one."

Last year, the company launched a facial recognition payment service in partnership with PrivatBank, Ukraine's largest bank.

Evergrande Chairman Pledges Luxury $90 Million Hong Kong Mansion As Collateral For Loan

One day after China made it clear that it will require a pound of flesh from Evergrande Chairman Hui Ka Yan when it demanded that he tap his personal wealth to pay down the insolvent property developer's debt (something which he can't do as his entire fortune is currently around $7 billion, a far cry from the company's $300 billion in liabilities) we learn that an associate of Yan's recently put up a luxury house owned by the chairman in Hong Kong for loan collateral as the billionaire and his property empire face an escalating debt crisis.

According to documents from the city’s Land Registry, a property on Hong Kong Island’s Black’s Link trail, known for its wealthy communities and expansive views, was pledged Oct. 19 to the local branch of China Construction Bank in exchange for a HK$300 million loan. Market observers estimate the property’s value at HK$700 million ($90 million).

According to Caixin, the property was pledged under pressure from Evergrande’s creditors, which demanded additional security for the company’s private equity financing. As everyone is aware by now, Evergrande is struggling to repay debts amounting more than $300 billion, some of which it has defaulted on.

The property is owned by billionaire Hui, who is expected to dispose of more personal assets gradually, said the Caixin source, to be in compliance with Beijing's demands. A registration document showed that the property is owned by a company called Yuanxun Ltd. On July 30, Tan Haijun, an associate of Hui, became director of the company.

Also on July 30, Tan succeeded Hui as sole director of Giant Hill Ltd., a company that owns another luxury villa on Black’s Link trail. Hui owns the HK$800 million house as sole shareholder of Giant Hill, a situation not uncommon in Hong Kong (or New York for that matter) where many wealthy people own property through companies.

The relationship between Hui and Tan is unclear, although local media HK01 reported that Tan is the butler in Hui’s house. The two houses are next to each other, and both are owned by Hui’s family, according to HK01.

According to Caixin, land registry records showed that Yuanxun and Giant Hill were both registered in Hong Kong in March 2006. The companies bought the two Black’s Link properties in August 2009 without disclosing financial details.

After the directorship transfer in Giant Hill, Hui remains the sole shareholder of the company. Industry experts said the personnel change is an attempt to make it easier for Hui to deal with the offshore asset as he lives on the Chinese mainland. It can give Hui more flexibility, as Tan now has the right to handle the company’s operations, such as pledging the property for loans or even selling it, a real estate agent specializing in luxury properties said.

In other words, it is the Evergrande Chairman himself who is starting to liquidate pledge personal assets for new funds.

China Seeks Upgrade of ASEAN Relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at November Summit

After 30 years of dialogue with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China is reportedly seeking to upgrade that relationship as its ties to the region deepen. It also comes as the United States tries to boost its own ties in Southeast Asia and wrest the area from Chinese influence.

The pitch, made on the sidelines of the ASEAN virtual summit by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, was revealed by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his official remarks in which he expressed in-principle support for China upgrading its relationship with the bloc to a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” according to Straits-Times.

The meeting would reportedly take place next month and be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has also expressed support for the idea, according to the South China Morning Post.

However, not all were immediately ready. Thailand has taken a more cautious approach, with government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana telling Bloomberg the country wants the South China Sea Code of Conduct to be in place to guarantee “effective, substantive and in accordance with international law” before formally deepening relations with Beijing.

The document, long in the negotiating phase, hit an important milestone in August when another section of the document was agreed upon. The code of conduct would lay out a framework for settling nautical disputes in the South China Sea, where China, Taiwan, and several ASEAN members have overlapping claims on islands and the sea lanes surrounding them. These lead to regular confrontations involving fishing fleets, petroleum exploration vessels, and warships conducting maritime maneuvers.

Pressure to make progress on the code of conduct increased earlier this year amid a weeks-long showdown over Whitsun Reef, a small island in the Spratly chain claimed by the Philippines and China where a Chinese fishing fleet anchored, claiming to be seeking shelter from stormy weather.

China has grown closer to ASEAN’s 10 member states since it was admitted as an observer in 1991, becoming its largest trading partner last year, Lee said in his remarks. That trend will only continue as China’s Belt and Road Initiative infrastructure megaproject continues to expand. The highly anticipated opening of a new high-speed rail line connecting Kunming, the capital of China’s southern Yunnan Province with Vientiane, capital of the mountainous landlocked country of Laos, 1,013 kilometers away, is the latest such example.

Li noted in his remarks to the bloc’s leaders that the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade bloc, would soon enter force after a sixth nation, ASEAN chair Brunei, ratified it earlier this month.

The deal can enter force once 15 countries ratify it; so far Thailand, Singapore, China, Japan, Cambodia, and Brunei have done so, meaning it needs three more from ASEAN and one other before it can take effect. Last month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a tour of the region urging RCEP’s ratification, focusing especially on Vietnam, which is being courted especially strongly by the United States.

McAuliffe Ads Point to 'Fake News' Sites on the Campaign Homestretch

In Virginia, Terry McAuliffe is working hard to earn a second stint in the governor’s mansion, and he certainly didn’t count on the race becoming as tight as it has.

As the campaign enters the final stretch, McAuliffe and his team have resorted to a tactic that screams desperation. The campaign has spent over $100,000 on Facebook ads that link to fake news sites that look like legitimate news sources but resort to partisan propaganda.

Fox News reports:

The Democrat’s advertisements, which have been viewed up to 3.5 million times so far, are hidden on a Facebook page with a similar name to a local news website. The ads link to third-party websites that ostensibly publish local news, but exist to promote Democratic candidates. The websites have been widely described as disinformation and “partisan propaganda.”

The Facebook page is called The Download, and it looks and sounds like a page that promotes actual news stories, but it’s a plant from the McAuliffe campaign. Some posts on the page point to actual news sites, but many of the posts, which are promoted with advertising dollars, link to sites like The Virginia Dogwood, a “news” site that publishes left-wing propaganda and boasts George Soros among its bankrollers, and The American Independent, another liberal opinion outlet that masquerades as an unbiased news site. The American Independent receives its funding from prominent Clinton ally David Brock.

Both The Virginia Dogwood and The American Independent have received “fake news” labels from watchdog groups and media ethicists. Of course, these links could be honest mistakes, but the money trail suggests that the campaign knows exactly what it’s doing.

The McAuliffe campaign has spent a total of between $90,200 to $106,398 on advertisements linking to the Independent and the Dogwood. Those advertisements have garnered the campaign a total of between 3,290,000 and 3,470,000 “impressions,” a term that Facebook uses to describe the number of screens that an advertisement has reached.

Each ad contains a disclaimer that it was paid for by “Terry for Virginia” and authorized by the candidate himself (Facebook requires candidates to add disclaimers like these to all political ads). But none of the advertisements disclose that the websites are considered to be “fake news” or that their information may be misleading.

The Democratic National Committee has remained silent on McAuliffe’s tactics, and the McAuliffe campaign has declined to respond to Fox News’ requests for comment about the ad buys.

McAuliffe’s opponent, Glenn Youngkin, has engaged in less than savory tactics of his own throughout the campaign, even as Youngkin’s campaign has called out McAuliffe for the fake news links. Youngkin campaign staffers called local talk radio shows throughout the state, pretending to be regular citizens who had good things to say about the GOP candidate.

In one of the tightest races in recent memory in Virginia, both sides are proving that politics continues to be a dirty game, but McAuliffe’s big money for fake news ads shows how desperate he is to pull off a victory.

Abstract

Introduction

Different studies have shown that solar and geomagnetic activities (GMAs) affect human health outcomes, especially cardiovascular systems being the most clearly impacted.

Aim

To analyse theassociations of geomagnetic storms (GSs) and other space weather events with morbidity from acute myocardial infarction AMIduring the period 2000–2015.

Methods

To evaluate the influence of space weather variables, we used adjusted rate ratios (RRs), their 95% confidence intervals, and p-value of coefficients in the Poisson regression model.

Results

12330 AMI cases (men and women n = 6942 and 5388, respectively) were registered. The study revealed that a higher risk of AMI and were related to the period of 3 days before GS—a day after GS, and a stronger effect was observed during the spring-autumn period. The strongest effect of high-speed solar wind (HSSW) was observed on the day of the event. We foundsignificant associations between the risk of AMI and the occurrence of Solar flares (SFs) during GSs. We also found a statistically significant increase in rate ratios for all AMIs between the second and fourth days of the period of interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs).

Attorney General Merrick Garland generally enjoys the protection of the sycophantic Leftist media that works night and day to conceal the galloping disaster that is the Biden administration. Garland himself appears to harbor a taste for forcibly suppressing opposition voices, as became clear yet again when he set his FBI onto the trail not of jihad terrorists, or migrant criminals, or any other group that the Left would like to pretend doesn’t exist, but of disgruntled parents protesting at school board meetings against the implementation of the race-hate propaganda known as critical race theory in public schools. As Stacey Lennox noted, this “can only be described as a tactic to suppress dissent.” On Wednesday, however, Garland had an unusual experience: He ran into a dissenter. It wasn’t pretty.

Garland Garland, however, insisted that the FBI was only concerned about threats of violence, not about simple dissent. Referring to the directive he sent to agents, he told Cotton: “Nothing in this memorandum or any memorandum is about parents expressing disagreements with their school boards. The memorandum makes clear that parents are entitled to have vigorous debates.”

However, Megan Fox recently did a deep dive into the supposed “threats” that school board members had supposedly received and that justified FBI intervention, and came up empty. Fox concluded:

Cotton was clearly aware of that, and pressed Garland: “So what is the National Security division [of the FBI] doing? They’re supposed to be chasing jihadists and Chinese spies. What is the National Security division have to do with parents at school boards?”

Garland stuck to his story, ignoring the fact that it was already in tatters: “This is not, again, about parents at school boards. This is about threats of violence.”

Cotton immediately called him on his dishonesty: “The very first line in your memorandum refers to ‘harassment and intimidation.’ Why do you continue to dissemble in front of this committee that you are only talking about violence and threats of violence?”

Cotton continued: “You’ve cited, as the basis for that directive [telling the FBI to watch school board meetings] the National School Boards Association’s letter of September 29. Was that directive being prepared before September 29, before the School Boards Association letter was issued?” Cotton was asking if Garland had planned to crack down on dissenters from critical race theory even before the National School Boards Association handed him an opportunity to do so.

Somewhat equivocally, Garland denied this: “I don’t believe so. Certainly I didn’t have any idea –”

Not about to let Garland off the hook, Cotton stated: “So you keep citing the school board letter and ‘news reports.’ News reports. One of the news reports cited in that letter, which you presumably mean, is from Loudoun County, Virginia.”

Garland tried to explain that the notorious Loudoun County story was not what he meant at all: “No, that’s not, that is not what I was talking about.”

Cotton was having none of it: “Well, you keep citing ‘news reports’ and that is the most prominent news report that anyone in America has seen. That refers to Scott Smith, whose 15-year-old daughter was raped. She was raped in a bathroom by a boy wearing girls’ clothes and the Loudoun County School Board covered it up because it would have interfered with their transgender policy during Pride Month. And that man, Scott Smith, because he went to a school board and tried to defend his daughter’s rights, was condemned internationally. Do you apologize to Scott Smith and his 15-year-old daughter, Judge?”

The short answer was “No,” but instead Garland gave Cotton this:“Senator, anyone whose, uh, childwas raped has,uh, is the most horrific crimeI can imagine, and is certainly entitled and protected by the First Amendment to protest to their school board about this.”Now

Cotton pressed Garland on his contradiction: “But he was cited by the School Board association as a domestic terrorist–”

Cotton: “– which we now know, that letter and those reports were the basis for your dir–.” Garland: “No. No, Senator, that’s wrong. That’s –”

Cotton concluded: “This is, Judge, this is shameful. This testimony, your directive, your performance is shameful. Thank God you are not on the Supreme Court. You should resign in disgrace, Judge.”
