The COG in the machine

Forbes learned about the existence of the furtive Collections Operations Group (insiders call it “the COG”) from the results of a freedom of information act request filed with the FBI in 2017. That FOIA filing concerned a deal signed last year between tech contractor CDW Government and the Data Intercept Technology Unit (DITU, pronounced “dee-too”) for $1.1 million in services. DITU, part of the Operational Technology Division in Quantico, Virginia, is one of the most clandestine divisions within the FBI, helping gather crucial data for investigations and intelligence. The OTD is the overarching body that oversees bleeding edge tech development for the entire FBI.

The FBI confirmed to Forbes that the COG is a sub-unit within DITU. The agency refused to comment on the specific nature of the group and its operations. But there’s some tantalizing new information nonetheless: according to the FOIA response, the COG’s mission “is to provide tools, expertise and solutions to effect lawfully-authorized electronic surveillance of data communications on today’s evolving local area network and internet technologies. The COG is responsible for the procurement, development and deployment of network equipment to assist in electronic surveillance to various field offices and OGAs.”

OGA stands for “other government agency.” As previously revealed in NSA files leaked by Edward Snowden in 2013 detailing the now-infamous PRISM espionage initiative, one of DITU’s roles sees it collect data from technology and telecom companies (whether that’s Facebook, Google, Microsoft or your phone and internet provider) before turning it over to intelligence agencies (which could be the DIA, CIA and NSA).

The COG is core to that intelligence sharing both within the FBI and outside the agency. Sources tell Forbes the COG is a go-between surveillance shop, setting up spy tools and associated networking across the FBI or whatever agency demands its services, and helping shift intel between them. Forbes spoke with multiple sources in the security and intelligence fields who claimed knowledge of DITU and its sub-units. All asked to remain anonymous.

“Think of it like this: it’s a technical group that oversees technical capabilities so that when lawful requests are issued on providers, and the data they return needs to be analyzed, it can be converted to human-readable formats,” said a person with knowledge of the COG. “Often, raw network data comes back in many forms and these teams work to make sure that the special agents and investigative teams can properly interpret the data.”

What kinds of equipment does the COG build and deploy in order to capture data? Sources who previously worked in the national intelligence community say it was probably technology such as pole-mounted boxes that capture wireless network traffic, or devices installed at ISPs that vacuum up data.

As for the WiFi Group, it’s another DITU sub-unit “responsible for the deployment and installation of communications equipment to support ongoing criminal, counter-terrorism and foreign counter-intelligence investigations,” according to a FOIA response for another CDW contract. That 2014 deal, for unspecified surveillance equipment, was worth just $26,571……

CHESAPEAKE - About four years ago, Kim Joseph Habit's mother had him temporarily committed to a mental hospital, alleging he was a potential danger to himself.

Wednesday, Habit, 34, was in Chesapeake Circuit Court, petitioning for the restoration of his right to purchase guns.

Judge Bruce H. Kushner continued the hearing so evidence could be gathered on Habit's current mental status. A new hearing date has not been set.

It is illegal in Virginia for people "involuntarily committed" for mental health treatment to buy firearms during the commitment period. Once released, individuals can petition a court to restore their rights to purchase, possess or transport firearms.

Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Parr said her office's policy is to object to these petitions until a mental health expert can give an opinion that it is safe for the person to have firearms.

Habit's behavior has been described by his attorney as "good" since his release from Maryview Psychiatric Hospital in Portsmouth.

Habit is a resident of Edmonds Corner Mobile Home Park in South Norfolk, according to court records. He once was a gun collector and would like to continue his hobby, according to Clay Macon, his attorney.

Habit was committed to the psychiatric hospital by his mother based on allegations he "was a potential danger to himself and in need of involuntary commitment," according to his petition. Macon did not release specifics of Habit's mental illness four years ago.

Special Justice Richard Buyrn executed an order for the involuntary admission of Habit on Nov. 27, 2002, according to his detention records.

Court records describe Habit's commitment only as "brief."

"It was a small incident many years ago," Macon said.

Habit was committed under an emergency detention order, which requires evidence that a person is mentally ill and presents an imminent danger to himself or others.

After Habit's release "there has been no additional involuntary commitment, and for the four years following that isolated incident," according to his petition.

Macon thinks Habit did not have to petition the court to purchase firearms, but took the extra step out of caution.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney William Campbell disagreed, arguing a petition was required.

Habit filed his petition in January, months before a student at Virginia Tech went on the worst shooting rampage in the nation's history.

Habit's hearing came days after the shooting and while Virginia and the nation is embroiled in gun law debates related to firearm buyers with mental illness histories.

New Mexico’s governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is being sued in a civil case by a former CFO at a space company.

The Pinon Post reports:

On Monday, Zach DeGriego, the former Chief Financial Officer of Spaceport America from December 21, 2015, to June 21, 2020, announced he had filed a civil complaint in the First Judicial District Court against Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham over an alleged fraud of $200 million.

“I’ve never spoken about this publicly until now, but the continued retaliation from New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and her staff has forced me to make this statement to set the record straight,” DeGriego said in a video statement.

“Many of you know I was the former chief financial officer of Spaceport America in New Mexico. I left that position after making multiple whistleblower complaints. I was forced to resign when I had to choose between keeping my job and committing crimes. After the governor and her staff got rid of me they have done everything in their power to retaliate against me and destroy my life to keep me silent.”

“At the same time, they proceeded to violate multiple federal laws. Today, I have filed a lawsuit against the State of New Mexico for violations of the New Mexico whistleblower protection act and malfeasance by the state auditor. The complaint names 21 individuals who participated in a conspiracy including leaders at the highest levels of state government including Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Attorney General Hector Balderas, New Mexico State Auditor Brian Colón, Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Alicia Keys, and current managers at Spaceport America.”

"I Do Not Want To Have A Vaccination": NHS Doctor Tells UK Health Secretary On Camera

An NHS doctor told Health Secretary Sajid Javid on Friday that he’s not happy with the government’s Covid-19 vaccination mandate for health workers that is due to take effect in April.

The vaccination mandate has already come into effect for care home staff, volunteers, and visitors from Nov. 11. Parliament approved the mandate for frontline NHS workers on Dec. 14.

Steve James, a consultant anesthetist at the King’s College Hospital, told Javid that he doesn’t believe the science for mandating the vaccines is “strong enough” and the government should at least consider the nuance that some doctors have had antibodies through previous exposure to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus—the virus that causes COVID-19.

“I’m not happy about that,” James told the health secretary after he asked an intensive care unit (ICU) their thoughts about the new rule to require CCP virus vaccination for NHS staff.

“I’ve not had a vaccination. I do not want to have a vaccination,” James said, adding that one of his colleagues was in the same situation.

“The vaccines are reducing transmission only for eight weeks for [the] Delta [variant of the CCP virus]. With Omicron, it’s probably less. For that, I will be dismissed if I don’t have a vaccine? The science isn’t strong enough,” he told Javid.

Ex-Michigan Speaker Lee Chatfield’s sister-in-law revealed as sexual assault accuser

The woman who accused former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield of multiple sexual assaults since she was a teenager was revealed to be his own sister-in-law.

Rebekah Chatfield, who is married to the politician’s younger brother, claims the former speaker assaulted her “more times than I can count” beginning when she was 15 years old more than a decade ago.

Rebekah, now 26, filed the criminal complaint with the Lansing Police Department against Lee, 33, she said in several interviews with Bridge Michigan.

The assaults allegedly began when she dated the politician’s younger brother and continued until 2021, she told the outlet.

“He destroyed me, and has controlled my life since I was 15-16, the past 10-11 years,” she said. “And I know the only way to get justice for this is to come forward and to file a criminal (complaint) against him.”

Lee, a Republican, was the youngest person to serve as Speaker of the House in Michigan in over 100 years. He left office in 2020 due to term limits.

Rebekah claimed the assaults began when she was 15 or 16 years old at Northern Michigan Christian Academy, a private school in Burt Lake where Lee taught and coached soccer before he launched his political career. His father is pastor of the church, the school superintendent and a teacher.

She had reportedly been dating Lee’s younger brother, Aaron Chatfield. Rebekah and Aaron were pushed to marry when at 19, after their families discovered they were having sex, according to the report.

Rebekah claimed she kept the incidents secret from her family and husband because she was ashamed and afraid to tell them. Her mental health reached a breaking point in December, when she finally shared her trauma with them and subsequently filed the police report, according to Bridge.

Rebekah would allegedly stay at Lee’s home often, and she said the touching began as unwanted gropes in the basement stairwell, eventually progressing to sexual intercourse, she told Bridge. She claimed the assaults continued “more times than I can count.

“I had a lot of family stuff going on in my life,” she told Bridge. “My dad was a recovering alcoholic, and so I believe that Lee used those (circumstances) against me and helped take advantage of me. So he would manipulate me, he would mess with my emotions.”

With trouble at home, she became more dependent on the Chatfield family, who “ran that whole church and school” that had become essential to her social life, she said.

“My whole world was the Chatfield family,” she said. “So if I told (the Chatfields), that would, that would ruin everything. I couldn’t see what would happen past then. I didn’t know there was an option to report. I didn’t know there were options for therapy.”

Aaron claimed to remember his older brother being handsy with his then-girlfriend when they were younger.

“I always had questions,” he told Bridge. “I don’t remember how I asked, I just remember saying, ‘Is something going on between you and Lee?’

“I just saw the way he looked at her.”

Dr. Dix’s emphasis was placed on stopping the progression of COVID-19 to a severe disease in vulnerable groups. Stopping the progression of COVID-19 would mean that hospitals would have to undertake early interventions and care in outpatient settings.

However, the NHS and major domestic healthcare bodies in the US are still intent on dismissing unvaccinated healthcare workers, leading to potentially major staffing shortages in already overwhelmed medical systems. In October, it was reported that UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid was planning to fire upwards of 100,000 NHS staff who did not want to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

The comments made by Dr. Clive Dix conclude that COVID-19 is part of a “new normality” for the human species. He said, “mass vaccinations of the population in the UK must stop.”

Bill Filed In Washington Would Authorize ‘Strike Force’ To ‘Involuntarily Detain’ Unvaccinated Families: ‘They Have Already Set Up The Internment Camps’

The Washington State Board of Health may soon amend state law to authorize the involuntary detainment of residents as young as 5 years old in Covid-19 “internment camps” for failing to comply with the state’s experimental vaccine mandate.

WAC 246-100-040, a proposed revision to include Covid protocol under the state’s Communicable and Certain Other Diseases act, outlines “Procedures for isolation or quarantine.” The measure would allow local health officers at “his other sole discretion” to “issue an emergency detention order causing a person or group of persons to be immediately detained for purposes of isolation or quarantine.”

Health officers are required to provide documentation proving unvaccinated residents subject to detention have denied “requests for medical examination, testing, treatment, counseling, vaccination, decontamination of persons or animals, isolation, quarantine and inspection and closure of facilities” prior to involuntarily confinement in quarantine facilities, the resolution states.

The amended law would also allow health officers to deploy law enforcement officials to assist with the arrest of uncompliant Washington residents.

According to W 246-100-040, “a local health officer may invoke the powers of police officers, sheriffs, constables, and all other officers and employees of any political subdivisions within the jurisdiction of the health department to enforce immediately orders given to effectuate the purposes of this section in accordance with the provisions of RCW 43.20.050(4) and 70.05.120.”

The “emergency detention order” legalizes the isolation and detainment of American citizens who fail to voluntarily comply with Covid gene therapy shots “for a period not to exceed ten days.”

However, a judge may extend the forced quarantine “for a period not to exceed thirty days” if the segregated individual or family persists to refuse vaccination.

WAC 246-100-040 was certified on October 25, 2019, months prior to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States. The first confirmed case of Covid in the US was diagnosed in Seattle on January 20, 2020.

More Children Die From the COVID Shot Than From COVID

The video above features Collette Martin, a practicing nurse who testified before a Louisiana Health and Welfare Committee hearing December 6, 2021.1,2 Martin claims she and her colleagues have witnessed “terrifying” reactions to the COVID shots among children — including blood clots, heart attacks, encephalopathy and arrhythmias — yet their concerns are simply dismissed.

Among elderly patients, she’s noticed an uptick in falls and acute onset of confusion “without any known etiology.” Coworkers are also experiencing side effects, such as vision and cardiovascular problems.

Martin points out that few doctors or nurses are aware the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) even exists, so injury reports are not being filed. Hospitals also are not gathering data on COVID jab injuries in any other ways, so there’s no data to investigate even if you wanted to. According to Martin:

“We are not just seeing severe acute [short term] reactions with this vaccine, but we have zero idea what any long-term reactions are. Cancers, autoimmune [disorders], infertility. We just don’t know.

We are potentially sacrificing our children for fear of MAYBE dying, getting sick of a virus — a virus with a 99% survival rate. As of now, we have more children that died from the COVID vaccine than COVID itself.

And then, for the Health Department to come out and say the new variant [Omicron] has all the side effects of the vaccine reactions we’re currently seeing — it’s maddening, and I don’t understand why more people don’t see it. I think they do, but they fear speaking out and, even worse, being fired … Which side of history will you be on? I have to know that this madness will stop.”

Martin also states she believes the hospital treatment protocol is killing COVID patients. Doctors agree that it’s “not working,” but that “it’s all we have.” But “that’s simply not true,” she says. “It’s just what the CDC will allow us to give.”

Federal agencies prepare to act against unvaccinated employees

Federal government agencies are preparing to take increasingly harsh steps against unvaccinated employees in order to implement President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal workers.

Some agencies plan to send letters warning of possible suspensions to employees who have not complied with the mandate. Many are also prepared to fire employees who don’t follow the rule, though such moves would be further down the road.

The rate of compliance is high across the federal government and agencies say they do not expect the suspensions or firings to cause disruptions.

The White House in November told agencies to hold off on harsher penalties until after the new year and to focus on education and counseling for those who had not complied with the mandate. Now, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) says agencies can move forward with stricter measures at their discretion.

“Agencies continue to move forward with the process, including taking progressive disciplinary measures as necessary,” an OMB spokesperson told The Hill.

The COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal workers is a cornerstone of Biden’s coronavirus response. The deadline for federal workers to comply with the mandate was Nov. 24, when 92 percent of the 3.5 million employees working for the federal government had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.

The current rate of federal government-wide compliance with the mandate is unclear because some agencies did not provide up-to-date data when reached by The Hill, but several agencies reported making progress since the November deadline by counseling employees who had not received their shots.

The departments of Treasury, Transportation and Agriculture, as well as the General Services Administration, Social Security Administration and Nuclear Regulatory Commission are all expected to begin suspending employees who are not complying with the mandate in the coming weeks.

Agencies have not laid out specific time frames for notifying employees of the suspensions, but experts expect them to move relatively quickly given that four months have passed since Biden announced the rule.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky clarified that the number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 is nowhere close to the statistic put forth by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor Friday, while noting that Americans can still work to reduce hospitalization by getting vaccinated.

Speaking with "Fox News Sunday," Walensky provided an update on the current numbers, confirming to host Bret Baier that there are fewer than 3,500 children in hospitals with COVID-19.

Former Gov. Tommy Thompson announces retirement from University of Wisconsin

Thompson is leaving the UW System as interim president in March.

Tommy Thompson is leaving the University of Wisconsin to a round of applause and congratulations.

Thompson on Friday announced that he is leaving the UW System as interim president in March.

"I was honored to be asked by the Board of Regents to serve as System President, particularly through what could have been its darkest time," Thompson said in the letter announcing his retirement. "While challenging on many fronts, we worked together to continue to provide the quality of education our students deserve and parents expect."

Thompson took over the UW System in 2019, and immediately faced a crisis of confidence at the Capitol, then faced the coronavirus pendemic.

Lawmakers in Madison say he negotiated the school through both.

“During his 18 months leading the organization, he faced challenges no president had experienced before. He tackled them head-on and continued to provide quality education, maximizing in-person learning for the students of the UW System. During the last two years, there is no doubt education at the UW campuses would have been nowhere near as meaningful without Tommy Thompson,” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester said Friday.

“President Thompson stepped in during a critical moment for UW System and our state, and he has provided strong and decisive leadership,” out-going UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in a statement. “He has been an extraordinary advocate for our students, faculty and staff over these past 18 months, as he has been for the state of Wisconsin over his many decades of public service.”

UW Regent President Edmund Manydeeds also heaped praise on Thompson following his retirement announcement.

“Tommy Thompson was the right man at the right time. His leadership has helped carry us through a pandemic and set the standard for managing during a crisis,"

The UW System has been searching for a new president, and that search may be over. Thompson has said in the past he will only serve as interim president, and his retirement may signal that the school has found a permanent replacement.

Thompson’s last day at the university is set for March 18. The university has not made any announcements about a new president, or a timeline to bring someone on board.

Princeton Faculty Member Brags About Death Threats Against Trump Admin Envoy

University Middle East expert Hussein Mousavian was a former Iranian official

A former Iranian official who is a faculty member at Princeton University recently bragged in an interview about how his hardline government’s death threats against a former top Trump administration official had him and his family "trembling" with fear.

Hussein Mousavian, a former member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team who works as a Middle East security and nuclear policy specialist at Princeton University, said in a recent interview that the Iranian regime’s threats to murder Brian Hook, the Trump administration’s special envoy for Iran, have heavily impacted Hook’s family life.

"I went to America and an American told me that Brian Hook’s wife can’t sleep, she cries and trembles, she told Brian, ‘They’ll kill you,’ since Hook was a partner in the death of Haj Qassem [Soleimani], that’s how much they were trembling," Mousavian said, referring to Iran’s vow to kill Hook for his role in the Trump administration’s drone strike that killed Iranian terror leader Soleimani two years ago. Mousavian’s comments were made in a documentary produced and released this month by a company tied to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps titled 72 hours. His Farsi language remarks were independently translated for the Washington Free Beacon.

Mousavian’s comments have renewed focus on his employment at Princeton, which Iranian dissidents and activists have long criticized due to the former official’s alleged role in Iranian human rights abuses. Mousavian, who regularly travels between Iran and the United States, has been working at Princeton since 2009 and has served in senior roles for the Iranian regime. Mousavian’s knowledge about Iran’s threats toward Hook, which the U.S. government has taken very seriously, according to sources familiar with the situation, demonstrates how Tehran has been able to mainstream its allies into prominent positions at U.S. universities and other American outposts, such as D.C.-based think tanks.

"It’s simply dangerous for any university to employ Mousavian, as he has directly celebrated death threats against Brian Hook and has been implicated in the death of Iranian dissidents in the 1990s," Alireza Nader, a veteran Iran expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think-tank, told the Free Beacon.

United Against a Nuclear Iran, an advocacy group critical of the Iranian regime, called on Princeton University president Christopher Eisgruber to fire Mousavian "from any association or affiliation with Princeton without delay."

Mousavian "sounded gleeful over the fact that American citizens and their families were concerned by death threats received from supporters of the Iranian regime," former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I., Conn.) and former U.S. ambassador Mark Wallace, UANI’s leaders, said in a statement. They also called Mousavian’s role at Princeton a "stain on the university’s reputation and credibility."

"At a time in which the U.S. intelligence community assesses that the Islamic Republic is working to develop networks for terrorist attacks on the U.S. homeland, there should be no room at Princeton or any other U.S. institution for Ambassador Mousavian," Lieberman and Wallace said.

"We condemn any threats against U.S. officials, former U.S. officials, or U.S. citizens," a State Department spokesman added in response to a Free Beacon request for comment.

Princeton did not respond to Free Beacon requests for comment.

Early life and education

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was born to a Kazakh Muslim family in the city of Alma-Ata (now Almaty). His father, Kemel Tokayev (1923–1986), was a World War II veteran and a well-known writer who is considered to be the founder of Kazakh detective fiction. His mother, Turar Shabarbayeva (1931–2000), worked at the Alma-Ata Institute of Foreign Languages. On 20 November 2001, at the Khabar Agency broadcast, Tokayev threatened to resign from his post as the PM unless President Nursultan Nazarbayev would dismiss several government officials whom he accused of being "intriguers" such as Deputy PM Oraz Jandosov, Labour and Social Protection of the Population Minister Alikhan Baimenov, Pavlodar Regional äkim Galymzhan Zhakiyanov and Deputy Defense Minister Janat Ertlesova by trying to decentralise the country's executive branch and slow down the democratization programs. The move came just days after a group of prominent Kazakh officials whom Tokayev accused and others announced the creation of Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan at a press conference. As a result, six cabinet members, including Jandosov, Zhakiyanov and Ertlesova were dismissed by Nazarbayev.

On 28 January 2002, Tokayev resigned from his post without a full explanation, calling it a "normal event" due to "a strong presidency". He was subsequently appointed as a State Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs concurrently.

No-Fly Zone Going Up Over Windsor Castle After 'Kill the Queen' Video and Armed Intrusion

A no-fly zone is being imposed around Britain’s Windsor Castle as a security measure to protect Queen Elizabeth.

The order, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 27, would ban any aircraft or drone from being within a 2,500-foot altitude over the castle.

Flying within a little over one mile of the castle walls will also be banned, according to The Sun.

The catalyst for the security step was an intruder carrying a crossbow, who managed to enter the castle grounds on Christmas day before being hustled away by police.

That man was arrested under Britain’s mental health laws.

Prior to that, a video threatening the queen had been posted to social media.

On Christmas, the so-called “kill the queen” video said she should die in revenge for a 1919 massacre of Indian civilians.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family. This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre,” the man making the video said.

For most of the past two years, the 95-year-old queen has lived in the private apartments of Windsor, due to health issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Metropolitan Police said the order would “further enhance the security at what is an iconic location and keep the community living nearby safe,” according to Sky News.

“As part of the Met Police’s responsibilities under the Royal and Specialist Protection Command, the Met is responsible for policing within the footprint of Windsor Castle and we work closely with Thames Valley Police to ensure the castle and the surrounding areas are kept safe and secure,” a Metropolitan Police spokesman said, according to ITV.

“As part of our ongoing review of security arrangements at Windsor Castle, and working in partnership with Thames Valley Police, we applied for a restricted airspace order for up to 2,500ft at a radius of 1.5 nautical miles around Windsor Castle,” the statement said.

The European (EEA and non-EEA countries) database of suspected drug reaction reports is EudraVigilance, verified by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and they are now reporting 36,257 fatalities, and 3,244,052 injuries following injections of four experimental COVID-19 shots:

Australia's Governor-General David Hurley has contracted COVID-19.
