Former President Trump has canceled a January 6 press conference he was scheduled to hold at his Mar-a-Lago home, he announced in a statement Tuesday.

 

Trump had planned to reiterate his unfounded claims of mass voter fraud in the 2020 election on the one year anniversary of the assault on the U.S. Capitol. The assault followed a rally he held in Washington, D.C., and weeks of him falsely asserting the election was rigged. The former president said he'll address the issues he would have discussed on January 6 at a rally in Arizona on January 15.

 

"In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, and instead will discuss many of those important topics at my rally on Saturday, January 15th, in Arizonaβ€”It will be a big crowd!" Trump said in an email message.

 

In his statement, the former president asserted β€” without evidence β€” that the House committee investigating the Capitol riot is engaged in a coverup and asked why it was not instead investigating "the fraud of the 2020 Presidential Election." Multiple investigations, including one by Trump's own Department of Justice, have found no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

 

The former president's press conference would have come the same day President Biden will deliver remarks to mark the anniversary of the attack, during which he is expected to condemn the violence of January 6 as an attempt to overturn democracy. White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday said the president will address "the truth of what happened, not the lies that some have spread since, and the peril it has posed to the rule of law and our system of democratic governance." Psaki said the president will also commemorate the members of law enforcement who protected the Capitol that day.

 

Three more law enforcement officers on Tuesday sued the former president over the events of January 6. that Trump often touted his support for law enforcement during his presidency.

If the jurors were asked about any experiences of abuse in their past during jury selection and the juror didn't say anything, I think it would be a big issue. Also, if the prosecution sat that juror.

 

I think there's an appeal, so I wonder if the Maxwell team could claim the jury selection process in the first trial was tainted.

 

What's bad is the guy admitting he used his experience to convince other jurors. They were out a long time, and, IIRC, the judge was getting ready to threaten a little with covid closures. This guys actions may have led the holdouts to say fuck it, just to get out of there.

Speaking at the Vatican, Pope Francis has criticized individuals who let pets β€œtake the place of children” for leaving civilization β€œwithout humanity,” saying they deprive society of β€œthe richness of fatherhood and motherhood.”

The Pope’s address to a general audience on Wednesday risked sparking the anger of childless pet owners by once again taking aim at their decision to avoid parenthood.

 

The condemnation from the pontiff came despite him seemingly being a fan of animals, having been photographed stroking dogs, a tiger, and a baby panther. During the 2014 Epiphany, the Pope even had a baby lamb draped over his shoulders.

Regardless, the Pope argued that people who do not want to have a child, choosing instead to have pets, exhibit a β€œform of selfishness.”

β€œSometimes they have one, and that’s it, but they have dogs and cats that take the place of children. This may make people laugh but it is a reality,” the pontiff said.

The Pope’s predecessor, Benedict XVI, was known to be a fan of cats, owning a black-and-white feline called Chico. Francis is not thought to have any pets at his Vatican apartment.

Addressing couples who biologically are unable to have their own children, the pontiff argued that individuals should β€œnot be afraid” to embark on parenthood by adopting.

β€œHaving a child is always a risk, but there is more risk in not having a child, in denying paternity,” Pope Francis said, reiterating concerns he raised in 2014 that not having kids is a β€œphenomenon of cultural degradation.”

A sergeant in the Paraguayan presidential guard died after being attacked by a gifted non-indigenous deer

 

A Paraguayan soldier has died after he was run through and gored by an axis deer from India in the gardens of the country's presidential palace. He was declared dead in a military hospital.

Speaking on Tuesday, military spokesman Colonel Victor Urdapilleta said that Sergeant Victor Isasi, 42, died as a result of piercing injuries, having been run down by a deer in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A second covid-19 unit has opened at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to make way for the potential of rising cases.

Lawrence Brooks, the United States’ oldest living World War II veteran, died Wednesday morning, according to his daughter and caregiver, Vanessa Brooks.

Longtime state lawmaker and Louisville native Darryl Owens died Tuesday. He was 84.

Former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro expressed frustration over how the violence during the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021 disrupted the GOP's plans to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

 

During a Tuesday interview with MSNBC, Navarro shared details about the plan that Donald Trump's legal circle was said to have in order to challenge the outcome of the 2020 White House race, dubbed "Green Bay sweep".

 

"The plan was simply this: We had over 100 congressmen and senators on Capitol Hill ready to implement the sweep. The sweep was simply that. We were gonna challenge the results of the election in the six battleground states", Navarro said, referring to the states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Nevada.

 

Navarro also praised Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Paul Gosar for "beautifully" objecting to the results of the 2020 election as members of Congress gathered to certify the votes of the Electoral College.

 

"It started flawlessly, but the violence overtook that event", Navarro lamented. "The rest, as they say, is history.”

 

The plan envisagedputting pressure on then-Vice President Mike Pence to stall the certification for as long as possibleso that he would be forced to β€œput the certification of the election on ice for at least another several weeks”, according to his book "In Trump Time" cited by Rolling Stone. Navarro described the plan as β€œlast, best chance to snatch a stolen election from the Democrats’ jaws of deceit”.

 

However, things took a different turn. On 6 January, protesters stormed into the US Capitol, calling for the dismissal of the election results. Former President Donald Trump was accused of inciting the insurrection, but vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Following his unprecedented second impeachment over the accusations, the Senate acquitted Trump after his presidential tenure had ended.

Kazakhstan unrest: Internet cut amid fuel protests

 

Thousands of protesters gathered in Almaty, the country's biggest city.

Internet access has been cut in Kazakhstan amid mass protests sparked by rising fuel prices.

Anti-government protesters in the main city, Almaty, stormed the mayor's office on Wednesday. Part of the building appeared to be on fire.

Protests have also erupted in several other cities, with security forces using tear gas and stun grenades.

The president has promised a tough response, calling the protests a "black period" in the country's history.

"As president, I am obliged to protect the safety and peace of our citizens, to worry about the integrity of Kazakhstan," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in a TV address. He called the protesters "plotters" who were "financially motivated".

Internet services in the country have been disrupted since Tuesday. By Wednesday, internet monitoring group NetBlocks reported that Kazakhstan was "in the midst of a nation-scale internet blackout".

It came as thousands of people took to the streets, despite a state of emergency in the capital Nur-Sultan, in Almaty, and in the western province of Mangistau.

In Almaty, protesters gathered at the mayor's office before eventually storming it. Videos on social media showed a plume of smoke rising from the building, while gunfire could also be heard.

The city's police chief, Kanat Taimerdenov, said "extremists and radicals" had attacked 500 civilians and ransacked hundreds of businesses.

Water cannon was used against protesters in the western city of Aktobe. There are reports that security forces have sided with protesters in some places.

Once Again Dominion Voting Systems Attempt to Prevent An Investigation of Their Voting Machines – This Time in Pennsylvania

 

Dominion Voting machines continues to attempt to prevent any investigations into their voting machines used in the 2020 Election.

 

According to CBS Pennsylvania:

 

Dominion Voting Systems has asked a court to restrict any inspection of its voting machines as part of what Republican lawmakers call a β€œforensic investigation” of Pennsylvania’s 2020 election to a laboratory that has specific credentials.

 

The Denver-based voting-system manufacturer filed paperwork in court Monday evening as Republican lawmakers move to inspect Dominion’s machines and software in southern Pennsylvania’s sparsely populated Fulton County using an unaccredited contractor that has no election experience.

 

In its court papers, Dominion requested an order requiring that any inspection be conducted by a federally accredited voting system test lab or a national laboratory used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

 

The problem for Dominion is that the federally β€œaccredited” voting system test labs for years weren’t accredited when they were used as accredited test labs. We found this in Arizona this last year. When we pointed this out, the EAC immediately updated the two labs used in Arizona that day. These labs self-assess anyways and no one is reviewing these assessments that we can tell.

 

The other entities that Dominion mentions, β€œnational laboratory used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency” are also likely limited in nature too.

 

What it comes down to, is Dominion wants to pick who looks at their voting machines.

 

As an auditor or investigator, when someone prevents access to data requested, multiple red flags arise. Many companies have annual code of conduct documents that all employees must sign that state that each and every employee must provide auditors the documents they ask for when they ask for them. Going against this policy could likely lead to termination.

This is very concerning that Dominion won’t openly allow investigators to look into their machines.

Labour’s leader tests positive again for Covid

 

Sir Kier Starmer begins his sixth isolation, having contracted coronavirus for the second time since October

 

Labour Party leader Sir Kier Starmer has been forced to withdraw from Wednesday’s Prime Ministers Questions (PMQs) session in Parliament after testing positive for Covid a day after delivering a key speech in Birmingham.

 

The Labour Party announced on Wednesday that Starmer had again contracted Covid. It was detected as part of his regular testing regime, forcing him to self-isolate for the sixth time since the pandemic began. He has received two doses of a Covid vaccine as well as a booster shot, and is not thought to have developed any symptoms, but is following government guidance to quarantine.

 

He had previously contracted the virus at the end of October, and had also had to self-isolate on four other occasions after coming into contact with others who had tested positive.

 

Starmer’s positive test result comes less than 24 hours after he set out his vision for the country during a speech in Birmingham, where he outlined his β€œcontract with the British people” if Labour takes office at the next election.

 

Present at the event were a number of local Labour MPs, regional officials, party advisers, and members of the media. After speaking, Sir Kier toured a green energy research site nearby. It is not known if anyone else he came into contact with has tested positive or is self-isolating.

 

The UK government’s rules currently mandate that infected people must self-isolate for 10 days from the day they test positive using a PCR test, although this can be reduced to seven if they test negative on two separate lateral flow tests taken 24 hours apart on days five and six.

 

Starmer’s positive result comes after the UK hit a record-high number of daily Covid cases, reporting 218,724 new infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number recorded in the past seven days to 1,269,878.
