Anti-Russia Propaganda Campaign In Caucasus Region

The ongoing anti-Russia propaganda campaign shows its landscape effectiveness, now and once again in the Caucasus region. Main directions of the campaign consist of:

Effective measures to deface the Russian troops’ stationing in territory of the independent and semi-independent states of the South and North Caucasus, like Armenia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia;

Rumors on the so-adduced negative anti-Caucasian moods and claims among servicemen of other Russian nationalities: Slavs, Tatars, Yakuts etc;

Promotion of the narrow-minded local nationalism, including its extremists nature.

It is worth to note that the religious factor in the anti-Russian propaganda in the Caucasus region is slowly receding into the background. Earlier the propaganda used to actively exploit the existing differences among ethnic and religious groups living in Russia or former USSR.

SouthFront has already covered the situation in Armenian and Georgia. The recently increased media and ideological pressure from the Western ideologemes can now be observed in the Caucasus region, including South Ossetia and North Ossetia. The coordinated media and ideological interference has been implemented to discredit the Kremlin policy over the past few years.

On August 25, “Congress of the Ossetian Nation” will take place in the city of Tskhinvali in Southern Ossetia. The congress will reportedly involve representatives of 97 tribes, which would discuss the unification of Ossetians, issues faced by them and other topics. This variant seems to be unacceptable to Moscow because the Russian Federation does not have any additional possibilities to burden additional economic and political expenditures.

The existing contradictions among South Ossetia think tanks and the establishment can be also shown through the following incident. On May 17, 2017 an incident took place in a military base in the village of Dzau. The incident was constituted as an attack of two sergeants on two officers of the military unit deployed. The attackers were of the Ossetian nationality, the officers – of others.

This incident has so far triggered multiple rumors and media speculations. In spite of the situation was caused by unprofessional actions of the officers themselves of the military unit. In military-legal interpretation of this situation, it turns out to be extremely straightforward and flagrant. There was an attack of servicemen on their officers in the region, where had been a hot conflict and the situation is still tense.

For most militaries around the world this is an emergency situation and such attackers will face a severe punishment: from long terms of imprisonment to a death penalty.

The judicial trial over the South Ossetia incident is still ongoing. However, over the past few month, it has caused a media hysteria in the local media. The main cause is the alleged anti-Ossetian (anti-Caucasian) moods among Russian officers of the Russian, Tatar, Chechen, Yakut and other nationalities.

SouthFront has received comments on the situation from several Russian experts aware of the situation in the region. They say unanimously that the South Ossetia situation widely covered by media is only top of the iceberg. Furthermore, the current complicated situation in the region allows various actors to exploit it promoting own interests.

Acute myeloid leukemia is one of the most aggressive cancers. While other cancers have benefitted from new treatments, there has been no encouraging news for most leukemia patients for the past 40 years. Until now.

As published today in the scientific journal Cell, Professor Yinon Ben-Neriah and his research team at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU)'s Faculty of Medicine have developed a new biological drug with a cure rate of 50% for lab mice with acute leukemia.

Leukemia produce a variety (and a high quantity) of proteins that together provide leukemic cells with rapid growth and death protection from chemotherapy.

To date, most of the biological cancer drugs used to treat leukemia target only individual leukemic cell proteins. However, during "targeted therapy" treatments, leukemic cells quickly activate their other proteins to block the drug. The result is drug-resistant leukemic cells which quickly regrow and renew the disease.

However, the new drug developed by Ben-Neriah and his team functions like a cluster bomb. It attacks several leukemic proteins at once, making it difficult for the leukemia cells to activate other proteins that can evade the therapy. Further, this single molecule drug accomplishes the work of three or four separate drugs, reducing cancer patients need to be exposed to several therapies and to deal with their often unbearable side-effects.

Additionally promising, is the new drug's ability to eradicate leukemia stem cells. This has long been the big challenge in cancer therapy and one of the main reasons that scientists have been unable to cure acute leukemia.

"We were thrilled to see such a dramatic change even after only a single dose of the new drug. Nearly all of the lab mice's' leukemia signs disappeared overnight," shared professor Ben-Neriah.

BioTheryX recently bought the rights to this promising drug from HU's technology transfer company Yissum. Together with Ben-Neriah's research team, they are now applying for FDA approval for phase I clinical studies.

A former Trump World Tower doorman who says he has knowledge of an alleged affair President Donald Trump had with an ex-housekeeper, which resulted in a child, is now able to talk about a contract he entered with American Media Inc. that had prohibited him from discussing the matter with anyone, according to his attorney.

On Friday, Marc Held – the attorney for Dino Sajudin, the former doorman – said his client had been released from his contract with AMI, the parent company of the National Enquirer, "recently" after back-and-forth discussions with AMI.

CNN has exclusively obtained a copy of the "source agreement" between Sajudin and AMI, which is owned by David Pecker.

The contract appears to have been signed on Nov. 15, 2015, and states that AMI has exclusive rights to Sajudin's story but does not mention the details of the story itself beyond saying, "Source shall provide AMI with information regarding Donald Trump's illegitimate child…"

The contract states that "AMI will not owe Source any compensation if AMI does not publish the Exclusive…" and the top of the agreement shows that Sajudin could receive a sum of $30,000 "payable upon publication as set forth below."

But the third page of the agreement shows that about a month later, the parties signed an amendment that states that Sajudin would be paid $30,000 within five days of receiving the amendment. It says the "exclusivity period" laid out in the agreement "is extended in perpetuity and shall not expire."

"Severe devaluations of the political opponent welded the support group together and provided attention, entertainment and indignation - similar to insults, threats and hate speech on the Internet today." According to Jehne, the highly hierarchical Roman politics sounded rough, but was not without rules. "Politicians ruthlessly insulted each other. At the same time, in the popular assembly, they had to let the people insult them without being allowed to abuse the people in turn - an outlet that, in a profound division of rich and poor, limited the omnipotence fantasies of the elite." Politicians and the public hardly took abuse at face value. Even if the comparison with today is partly misleading, says Jehne: "A certain Roman robustness in dealing with abusive communities such as AfD or Pegida could help to reduce the level of excitement and become more factual."

In the debate about the agricultural law in 63 BC, for example, Cicero tried to persuade the people to change their minds. "But should he not succeed, he promised to bow to the people and change his opinion." Those who questioned the people as a decision-making body risked the crowd roaring up and storming the rostra. "However, this power of the people was only valid in official political communication arenas," emphasises Jehne. Smoothing out the rough patches of a material widely used to filter saltwater could make producing freshwater more affordable, researchers report in the Aug. 17 Science.

Desalination plants around the world typically strain salt out of seawater by pumping it through films made of polyamide — a synthetic polymer riddled with tiny pores that allow water molecules to squeeze through, but not sodium ions. But organic matter, along with some other waterborne particles like calcium sulfate, can accumulate in the pockmarked surfaces of those films, preventing water from passing through the pores (SN: 8/20/16, p. 22). Plant operators must replace the membranes frequently or install expensive equipment to remove these contaminants before they reach the filters.

Now researchers have made a supersmooth version without the divots that trap troublesome particles. That could cut costs for producing freshwater, making desalination more broadly accessible. Hundreds of millions of people already rely on desalinated water for drinking, cooking and watering crops, and the need for freshwater is only increasing (SN: 8/18/18, p. 14).

Manufacturers normally create salt-filtering films by dipping porous plastic sheets into chemical baths that contain the molecular ingredients of polyamide. These molecules glom onto the sheet, building up a thin polymer membrane. But that technique doesn’t allow much control over the membrane’s texture, says Jeffrey McCutcheon, a chemical engineer at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.

McCutcheon and colleagues made their version by spraying the polyamide building blocks, molecular layer by layer, onto sheets of aluminum foil. These polyamide films can be up to 40 times smoother than their commercial counterparts.

Such ultrasmooth surfaces should reduce the amount of gunk that accumulates on the films, McCutcheon says, though his team has yet to test exactly how clean its films stay over time.

Ironed out

Typical polyamide films for filtering saltwater (shown in the scanning electron microscopy image to the left) have rugged, pockmarked surfaces that trap organic material and other particles, clogging the filter. New, ultrasmooth polyamide membranes (right) could avoid that problem.

I know we've dug into Soros again and again and again, but I have to admit that I just don't get it. The Soros demon has been betting against and laughing at the whole world for decades. Hey anons, the recent digs and reminders on Podesta's art collection reminded me that Obamas Press Secretary, Jay Carney decorated his home with authentic period Soviet Propaganda posters. I saw it on one of the network TV morning shows but don't remember which.
