Democrat Presidential Contender Tulsi Gabbard Under Fire for Past Traditional Marriage Support

Democratic presidential contender Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is under fire for her past activism and statements in favor of traditional marriage and against “homosexual activists.”

Gabbard, described by CNN as “the first Hindu and American Samoan” elected to Congress, made a surprise announcement Friday that she would be running for president in 2020.

She is a left-wing Democrat and Iraq War veteran with a history of iconoclastic stances. In 2016, she resigned from a leadership position on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to support Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), for president, and was one of the first to raise the alarm about then-chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s effort to tilt the Democratic Party presidential primary in favor of establishment favorite Hillary Clinton.

Just last week, Gabbard blasted Democrats in the Senate — including a fellow Hawaiian and fellow “progressives” — for questioning a judicial nominee’s Catholic faith, including his membership in the Knights of Columbus.

Though she did not mention Sens. Marie Hirono (D-HI) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) by name, she accused them in an op-ed in The Hill of “fomenting religious bigotry.”

Now, however, Gabbard is facing similar accusations after a CNN report by researched Andrew Kaczynski that detailed her family’s past support for traditional marriage.

On Twitter, Kaczynski opined that Gabbard’s anti-gay views were “next level.”

The report, “Tulsi Gabbard once touted working for anti-gay group that backed conversion therapy,” accuses her of “anti-gay” stances (original link):

Tulsi Gabbard herself is quoted in a 2000 press release from The Alliance for Traditional Marriage. In it, she attacks gay rights activists who were opposed to her mother Carol’s bid for the state’s board of education.

Tulsi Gabbard’s anti-gay efforts continued after she became a state representative.

Shortly after Gabbard announced her presidential ambitions Friday, her testimony at a hearing opposing a civil unions bill in 2004 resurfaced.

“To try to act as if there is a difference between ‘civil unions’ and same-sex marriage is dishonest, cowardly and extremely disrespectful to the people of Hawaii,” Gabbard said at the time. “As Democrats we should be representing the views of the people, not a small number of homosexual extremists.”

Powell May Not Know It Yet, But The Fed Is Now Trapped

With even Morgan Stanley openly discussing whether the Fed will "make the market happy", it now appears that the Fed tightening is effectively over with the Fed Funds rate barely above 2%, and the only question is whether the Fed will cut rates in 2019 or 2020 - roughly around the time the next recession is expected to strike - and whether the balance sheet shrinkage will stop at the same time (and be followed by more QE).

To be sure this new consensus was reflected in both equity and credit markets, both of which cheered the Fed's recent dovish U-Turn, and recouped all their losses since mid-December. And yet, market paradoxes quickly emerged: for one, rates markets yawned. On December 31, rates were pricing no Fed hikes over the next two years. Today, after the Fed’s big ‘change of tone’, expectations are almost exactly the same.

Second, a material disconnect has emerged between front-end pricing (no hikes) and the level of 10-year real rates (near seven-year highs). If, as Morgan Stanley's Andrew Sheets notes, "one of these is right, the other seems hard to justify."

Then there is, of course, the lament about the neutral rate being so low - and the potential output of the US economy so weak - that it can't sustain nominal rates above 2.25% - incidentally we explained back in 2015 the very simple reason why r-star, or the real neutral rate, is stuck at such a low level and is only set to drift even lower: record amounts of debt are depressing economic output, as the following sensitivity analysis showed.

Other than violating certain testimonial and constitutional privileges, the federal grand jury can pretty much do what it wants. Here you will find 10 tips you must know about the federal grand jury.

Keep your Attorney Close at Hand.

Your lawyer can't be with you in the grand jury room, but he can be right outside the room and you have the right to consult with him after each and every question. In fact, you can spend as much time as you need conferring with your lawyer, as long as you are not attempting to disrupt the grand jury process. You can also leave the grand jury room in order to brief your attorney about the questions being asked and your responses. In most federal jurisdictions you can also take notes of any questions asked during the grand jury session. These can later be shared with your attorney.

Learn the Difference Between Types of Grand Jury Subpoenas .

Federal grand jury subpoenas are for (a) testimony (ad testificandum); (b) documents or objects (duces tecum); or (c) both. The face of the subpoena will inform you which type of subpoena you received. You will be subpoenaed as an individual or as a custodian of records for a business entity. In many instances, individuals have the right to refuse to answer grand jury questions by invoking the Fifth Amendment's Privilege against Self-Incrimination. Corporations and other business entities, however, cannot invoke this privilege. But since a corporation operates through human agents, it must designate a custodian of records when subpoenaed by the federal grand jury. Under Supreme Court case law the corporate custodian is only required to answer a narrow category of questions, related to how the subpoenaed documents were searched for and gathered. If you are properly subpoenaed as a business custodian, it is very important that you limit your answers to this narrow category of questions. Prosecutors love to get corporate custodians into the grand jury room and ask extra questions. These questions might seem innocuous, but they are often very dangerous. You need to have your white collar criminal lawyer with you for consultation, right outside of the grand jury room, to insure that you are not tricked into answering one question too many. Some federal prosecutors have recently started the practice of issuing one subpoena to a person in that person's individual capacity and his custodial capacity. This tactic is dangerous, confusing, and, in my view, unauthorized. It is tantamount to issuing one subpoena to two persons or companies. Your attorney should insist on two separate subpoenas-one for you as an individual and one to the company's custodian of records.

So… I am digging on this whole incident. Specifically, the C-130 that was hit. Much of the coverage went to the C-141 that was hit by the F-16 after the pilots ejected, but I find it very unlikely this was the target. Just a "bonus" distraction.

The reason why is that this was right around the time that Bosnia was beginning to heat up and turn into a NATO issue. There was arms running through Croatian embassies to supply Al Qaeda militants in Bosnia, and direct support coming in through Tuzla.

I highly doubt it would be as simple as finding a flight registration to one of those places, but it would be very interesting to trace this aircraft's available flight history back. In the case where the government seeks to forfeit assets while the parties are still married, counsel's first step should be to assess what property rights the client may have under state law. See United States v. One Single Family Residence , 894 F.2d 1511 (11th Cir. 1990) (appropriate to apply state law to determine interest of innocent owner).

In a criminal forfeiture case, the Seventh Circuit scrutinized Wisconsin law and found that the wife of a convicted drug king-pin had not established a legal interest under marital property law in a corporation owned by her husband. United States v. Marx , 844 F.2d 1303 (7th Cir. 1988). The case is important because the court recognized that state marital property law is controlling and that a present marital property interest existing under state law at the time of the unlawful activity is not forfeitable.

In asserting a property interest in the corporation, the wife relied on Wisconsin's Marital Property Act, which states that marital property is a form of community property and that all property is presumed to be marital property in which each spouse has a present undivided one-half interest. However, all of the husband's drug activities occurred before the effective date of the Marital Property Act. Since the forfeiture statute in question, 21 U.S.C. S 853(n)(6)(A), required the court to determine the claimant's property interest at the time of the commission of the unlawful acts underlying the forfeiture, the prior Wisconsin statute applied. That statute recognized a spousal interest in property titled in the other spouse's name only upon a judgment of annulment, divorce, or legal separation. Since the wife and husband were married at the time of his drug crimes, and were still married, the wife could not claim an interest in his corporation under marital property law. The court remanded, however, for evidentiary determinations on the wife's constructive trust and resulting trust theories.

Its been a while since I studied Parliamentary Procedure, but addressing the question of what it takes to expel a sitting us congresman/woman or senator. Other anons have agreed that it would take a 2/3 vote of their respective house, upon getting the required impetus i.e: treason/conviction.

and then the question becomes can we achieve a super-majority (2/3) vote to go our way with the D's having the majority in the House and only a slim R majority in the Senate?

my googling seems to indicate that Yes this is possible.

the House and Senate both require a simple majority of their seated members to be present to establish a Quorum, which is the minimum required to do business. then a super-majority vote could be called out of that simple quorum and not from the total membership.

TLDR: I'm not 100%, but a 2/3 vote could mean simply 2/3 of the established Quorum, and not a full 2/3 of the entire membership.

Senate: 51 required for Quorum. of those: a 2/3 vote would only require 34 yea's. we have 53 R's

House: 218 required for Quorum. of those: a 2/3 vote would only require 146 yea's. we have 199 R's. we only need 19 D's to simply be present, breathing, and un-arrested to move forward. they could all even vote no and it would still pass.

at least that is what i've been able to find. feel free to dig further.
