A phenomenon analogous to original antigenic sin also has been described with cytotoxic T lymphocytes (11). Although conclusive evidence in humans is lacking, original antigenic sin recently has come under scrutiny as a possible cause of viral immune escape, enhanced disease severity, decreased efficacy of influenza vaccines (8,12โ€“14), and increased incidence of influenza in 2009 after vaccination with a related virus in 2008โ€“2009 (15). I love it when people can chill & state thoughts & opinions about things that so many "Scientists" are snobby about & have taken for granted.

That is one of the things I would tell people to work on if I ever had a voice. For Scientists/Researchers etc. etc. to stop being so dismissive to others who have ideas. So many times they instantly call something/someone stupid for bringing up an idea that doesn't fit into their belief system, so they will automatically dismiss it & the person as they look down at them.

A lot of times, things need a new pair of eyes to see things that an experienced with the topic person has overlooked.

The war game simulated China using military force to takeover Pratas Island and Dongsha Atoll, where roughly 500 Taiwanese soldiers are stationed.

 

CNN reports:

 

This type of limited aggression could be a precursor to the seizure of other islands near Taiwan or an outright invasion of the democratically governed island as Beijing seeks to test and prod Washingtonโ€™s resolve to defend Taiwan.

 

But once China has established its own military footprint on Dongsha and removed the Taiwanese troops, the US had no credible way to compel China to return the island to the control of Taipei, the report states. Economic sanctions took too long to produce effects and appeared too weak to influence Chinaโ€™s decision-making, while any military action risked an escalation to war, which both the US and Taiwan want to avoid if possible.

 

CNASโ€™s report, which was titled, โ€œThe Poison Frog Strategy,โ€ warned that the U.S. and Taiwan needed to take immediate action to stop the threat from China before China has the opportunity to make the first move.

 

The reportโ€™s key takeaway and policy recommendation section stated in-part:

 

Given the inherent difficulty of defending small, distant offshore islands like Dongsha, Taiwan and the United States should strive to turn them into what the players called โ€œpoison frogs.โ€ This approach would make Chinese attempts to seize these islands so militarily, economically, and politically painful from the outset that the costs of coercion or aggression would be greater than the benefits. Militarily, this would entail local garrisons capable of preventing a bloodless fait accompli, thereby pushing China to escalate to the use of force. Taiwan should also be prepared to destroy critical infrastructure on such islands to deny its use to China. And Taiwan and the United States should be ready to exploit Chinaโ€™s belligerence and aggression in the information domain. Another member of a secretive Russian military-intelligence unit has been charged in a brazen UK assassination. Here's how the GRU works.

 

In 2018, Sergei Skripal, a former Russian military intelligence officer who defected to the West, and his daughter became critically ill after they were exposed to the Soviet-era nerve agent Novichok, which Russian GRU officers are believed to have applied to Skripal's residence's door handle in order to kill him.

 

Although Skripal and his daughter survived, a police officer fell seriously ill, and a British woman was killed a few months later when she sprayed herself with the perfume bottle that the GRU officers stored the Novichok in and then discarded. The bottle ended up in a charity bin.

 

Subsequent investigations into the incident found that two - and now three - GRU officers had traveled to Salisbury to carry out the attack.

 

The three GRU operators have been charged with conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, and the possession and use of a banned chemical weapon. But the Kremlin has denied any involvement, even going as far as "interviewing" two of the suspects, who Moscow claimed went to Salisbury to marvel at the small town's cathedral.

 

This is the second time Russian intelligence officers have targeted a Russian defector in the UK.

 

In 2006, Alexander Litvinenko, a former FSB officer and critic of Putin, died after drinking tea contaminated with Polonium-210, a radioactive material. Subsequent investigations held Russia responsible.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin is a former KGB officer, so he highly values the services of his intelligence agencies.

 

When the Cold War ended, the powerful KGB, which conducted both foreign and domestic intelligence collection, was dismantled into smaller, more focused agencies.

 

The SVR focuses on foreign intelligence collection, roughly equivalent to the CIA. The FSB conducts domestic intelligence collection and counterintelligence, similar to the FBI.

 

The FSO is a mixture of federal law enforcement, signals intelligence, border patrol, and presidential guard and doesn't really have a US equivalent. Finally, the GRU focuses on military intelligence, comparable to the Defense Intelligence Agency.

 

Out of the four, only the GRU isn't a civilian agency, instead falling under the Russian military's General Staff. Being part of the military has its perks, as the GRU can deploy vastly more intelligence officers abroad than the SVR.

 

There is an intense rivalry within the Russian intelligence apparatus. Russia's regime is a centralized one, with everyone competing for the attention and favor of the tzar-like Putin. This pushes those agencies beyond normal inter-service rivalry, especially the GRU and SVR.

 

Historically, Russian intelligence operations have focused more on subversion rather than intelligence collection - perhaps a reflection of the country's fundamental disadvantages compared to the US and the West. Through "active measures," the Kremlin has sought to destabilize countries and eliminate individuals it sees as threats.

 

What Putin's Russia seeks is respect from the international community and dominance in its sphere of influence.

 

Covert action offers political leaders and governments plausible deniability. For example, when the CIA armed the Mujahideen with Stinger missiles to shoot down Soviet helicopters and jets in Afghanistan in the 1980s, it did so under a covert-action program. As a result, the Soviet Union couldn't directly accuse the US of helping the guerrillas.

 

While the attempted assassination of Skripal and his daughter would fall in the covert-action category, the GRU's actions were anything but covert.

 

One explanation for this is that the GRU officers simply weren't good enough at tradecraft, allowing Western intelligence services and even the Bellingcat independent journalism website to track their movements and their identities.

 

Another more sinister explanation is that Putin and his close associates, several of whom have intelligence backgrounds, loathe those who spied against Russia and later defected and want to send a message by attacking them in countries where they feel secure: If you betray me, I'll hunt you down and kill you.

 

The brutality of this approach might backfire, as it could create even more dismay among Russian officials, giving them incentive to defect.

No, it's a legally binding contract you enter into at the county. No ceremony needed at all. Many just associate with religion because "muh two flesh become one". You and your spouse enter a legally binding contract that requires no lawyer present; just a county clerk.

Despite having an entire carrier strike group, including destroyers, helicopters, and planes hunting for it, the HSMS Gotland managed to sneak by the formidable anti-submarine defensive net around the USS Ronald Reagan and score several simulated torpedo โ€œhits.โ€

 

To add insult to injury, the Swedish submarine was able to replicate its achievement several times over two years, alarming officials in D.C. and encouraging rivals in Moscow, Beijing, and elsewhere.

 

If a small diesel-powered sub that cost about $100 millionโ€”or approximately the cost of two F-18 Super Hornet aircraft out of the dozens on board a U.S. aircraft carrierโ€”could sink a $6 billion supercarrier, then the U.S. Navy would be at a serious disadvantage in the event of a conflict with China or Russia.

Some argue marriage is a good thing for a functional society, and preservation of values leaning "conservative". Some argue that it goes against nature and God's intent for our truer nature as a species. But nowhere in the Bible does God say "Thou shalt be married". It just says not to covet your neighbor's wife, commit adultery, or fornicate. It does say that two flesh become one, and that when man leaves his parents' home, he is to join with his wife, faithfully. Marriage is absolutely nowhere in the Bible.

 

The concept of marriage is a civil/social contract that ensures the possibility that each member of society gets an equal shot at companionship and procreation. You think it's not that deep? Just look at all the other various control mechanisms put in place to placate people and ensure us "wild beasts" keep focus on many other distractions instead of who's pulling all the levers.

 

The Adam and Eve story? It's allegory for when people come of age and leave home. Cain and Able? Allegory for conflict for siblings serving their parents (or gov't). It goes on and on like this, while taking intermittent breaks for "begat begat begat" in order to establish a "God promised us this land, not you guys". Then the NT happens, and all that previous stuff really doesn't matter anymore because we went from legalism to love.

Legal experts see strong self-defense claim for Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha protest shooting trial

KENOSHA , Wis. โ€“ When Kyle Rittenhouse goes on trial Monday for shooting three men during street protests in Wisconsin that followed the police shooting of Jacob Blake last summer, he'll argue that he fired in self-defense.

 

Legal experts say under Wisconsin law he has a strong case. What's less clear is whether prosecutors will be able to persuade the jury that Rittenhouse created a deadly situation by showing up in Kenosha with an AR-style semiautomatic rifle - and that in doing so he forfeited his claim to self-defense.

 

The videos featured are from previous reports.

 

Rittenhouse, 18, of Antioch, Illinois, faces six counts including homicide charges in the Aug. 25, 2020, deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and he could face life in prison if convicted of the most serious charge.

 

Rittenhouse, then 17, was among people who responded to calls on social media to travel to Kenosha bearing weapons to protect the city from damaging protests that followed a white police officer shooting Blake, a Black man, in the back on Aug. 23. (A prosecutor later cleared the officer, ruling that Blake was turning toward the officer with a knife.)

 

Rittenhouse and all three men he shot are white.

Here's a look at the legal issues in the Rittenhouse case:

 

WHAT HAPPENED?

 

The Rittenhouse case isn't a whodunit. Bystander video captured most of the shootings.

 

It shows an unarmed Rosenbaum chasing Rittenhouse into the parking lot of a used car dealership. At one point, Rosenbaum throws a plastic bag at Rittenhouse before the two move off-camera and Rittenhouse fires the fatal shots at around 11:45 p.m.

 

Soon after, Rittenhouse is seen running down a street away from the scene with several protesters on his heels. He falls. Huber appears to strike him in the head and neck area with a skateboard; Rittenhouse shoots Huber, striking him in the heart.

 

Seconds later, Gaige Grosskreutz steps toward Rittenhouse holding a pistol. Rittenhouse shoots him, badly injuring Grosskreutz's arm. Rittenhouse then gets to his feet and leaves the scene.

 

WHAT DOES THE DEFENSE CLAIM?

 

Self-defense, pure and simple. Rittenhouse's attorneys say he came to Kenosha not to hurt anyone but to protect businesses from damage and looting. And they say the people he shot left him no choice.

 

They're expected to highlight Rosenbaum's pursuit of Rittenhouse, and Huber and Grosskreutz subsequently coming at him. The defense has said Rosenbaum and Huber tried to wrest Rittenhouse's rifle away, leading Rittenhouse to fear he would be shot with his own weapon.

 

The defense also wants to introduce evidence that police handed water to Rittenhouse and other rifle-carrying citizens, and said, "We appreciate you guys, we really do." They argue that the friendly greeting contributed to Rittenhouse thinking there was nothing wrong with his presence on the streets that night - and that it undermines any argument that he acted recklessly.

 

WHAT DO PROSECUTORS SAY?

 

Rittenhouse's trip to Kenosha will be a key part of their case. They portray him as a wannabe cop who came looking for trouble and fame, and that by bringing a rifle to the late-night protest, he was the primary cause of the deadly encounters.

 

They also argue that Rittenhouse wasn't there to protect businesses but to join other armed counterprotesters with whom he sympathized. Rittenhouse "was the aggressor, there with the intent to violently clash with those opposed to his beliefs," prosecutors have said.

 

Prosecutors had hoped to bolster their case by introducing as evidence a brief video taken 15 days before the protest shootings that shows Rittenhouse watching some men exit a CVS pharmacy and commenting that he wished he had his rifle so he could shoot them because prosecutors say he baselessly thought they were shoplifters. Thomas Binger, the lead prosecutor, said it showed Rittenhouse's mindset as "a teenage vigilante, involving himself in things that don't concern him." But Judge Bruce Schroeder questioned the relevance of the video to the charges. He ruled it wouldn't be allowed, though he suggested he could reassess that ruling later.

 

Schroeder has also blocked prosecutors from connecting Rittenhouse to the far-right extremist group the Proud Boys. Rittenhouse was photographed in January in a Wisconsin bar with some Proud Boys members, but his attorneys say Rittenhouse had no affiliation or involvement with the groupโ€ฆ

Cuban exile told sons he trained Oswald, JFKโ€™s accused assassin, at a secret CIA camp

 

Almost 40 years after his death following a bar brawl in Key Biscayne, Ricardo Morales, known as โ€œMonkeyโ€ โ€” contract CIA worker, anti-Castro militant, counter-intelligence chief for Venezuela, FBI informant and drug dealer โ€” returned to the spotlight Thursday morning when one of his sons made a startling claim on Spanish-language radio:

 

Morales, a sniper instructor in the early 1960s in secret camps where Cuban exiles and others trained to invade Cuba, realized in the hours after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963 that the accused killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, had been one of his sniper trainees.

 

Morales also told his two sons that two days before the assassination, his CIA handler told him and his โ€œclean-upโ€ team to go to Dallas for a mission. But after the tragic events, they were ordered to go back to Miami without learning what the mission was about.

 

The claims made by Ricardo Morales Jr. during a show on Miamiโ€™s Actualidad Radio 1040 AM, add to one of the long-held theories about the JFK assassination โ€” that Cuban exiles working for the CIA had been involved. But the claims also point the finger at the CIA, which some observers believe could help explain why President Joe Biden backed off last week on declassifying the remaining documents in the case.

 

Moralesโ€™ son, 58, said the last time his father took him and his brother to shooting practice in the Everglades, a year before dying in 1982, he told them he felt his end was near because he had revealed too much information of his work for the CIA to a Venezuelan journalist and he was writing a memoir. So he encouraged his sons to ask him questions about his life.

 

โ€œMy brother asked โ€˜Who killed John F. Kennedy?โ€™ and his answer was, โ€˜I didnโ€™t do it but I was in Dallas two days before waiting for orders. We were the cleaning crew just in case something bad had to be done.โ€™ After the assassination, they did not have to do anything and returned to Miami,โ€ his son said on the radio show.

 

Morales Jr. said his father told them he did not know of the plans to assassinate Kennedy.

 

โ€œHe knew Kennedy was coming to Dallas, so he imagines something is going to happen, but he doesnโ€™t know the plan,โ€ he said. โ€œIn these kinds of conspiracies and these big things, nobody knows what the other is doing.โ€

 

Morales also knew Oswald, his son claims.

 

โ€œWhen my old man was training in a CIA camp โ€” he did not tell me where โ€” he was helping to train snipers: other Cubans, Latin Americans, and there were a few Americans,โ€ he said. โ€œWhen he saw the photo of Lee Harvey Oswald [after the assassination] he realized that this was the same character he had seen on the CIA training field. He saw him, he saw the name tag, but he did not know him because he was not famous yet, but later when my father sees him he realizes that he is the same person.โ€

 

Morales Jr. gave a similar account to the Miami Herald in an interview Thursday, adding that his father said he didnโ€™t believe Oswald killed Kennedy โ€œbecause he has witnessed him shooting at a training camp and he said there is no way that guy could shoot that well.โ€

 

He said he believes his father told the truth at a moment he was fearing for his life after losing government protection.

 

While Lee Harvey Oswald was accused in Kennedyโ€™s assassination, a 1979 report from the House Select Committee on Assassinations contradicted the 1964 Warren Commission conclusion that JFK was killed by one lone gunman. The committee instead concluded that the president was likely slain as the result of a conspiracy and that there was a high probability that two gunmen fired at him.

 

The House Select Committee, which also interviewed Morales, said they couldnโ€™t preclude the possibility that Cuban exiles were involved.

 

Whatever happened, Bidenโ€™s decision to postpone the declassification of the remaining 15,000 documents linked to the case is once again giving life to the conspiracy theories. Moralesโ€™ son believes the documents might never be made public.
