Fredrick Brennan is a vivid dreamer, and toward the end of his time running the notorious website 8chan, one sequence would play out in his mind night after night as he slept.

Brennan, wheelchair-bound from a genetic disorder, dreamed that he was being hauled away by police and locked behind bars while dressed in an orange jumpsuit. “In my waking life, I could rationalize that that would never hap­pen,” he says. But at night, in his dreams, denying the risks of operating the site he built and obsessively defended for years through a combination of slippery deflections, free-speech absolutism, and personal attacks was “getting harder and harder.”

Brennan, 25, is telling me about the days he spent running 8chan while living in a small studio apartment some 20 stories above the sprawl of Manila, far from New York where he began building the site as he came down from a psyche­delic mushroom trip in 2013.

Brennan was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, more commonly referred to as brittle bone disease. His arms and legs are severely bowed from the condition, which, he says, also afflicts his mother and younger brother. He has, by his own tally, suffered dozens of broken bones over his life.

Defendant Paid Over $500 Million in Taxes, Interest, and Penalties

The founder of a Russian bank was sentenced today for his felony conviction for filing a false tax return. As required under his plea agreement, prior to sentencing, Oleg Tinkov, aka Oleg Tinkoff, paid $508,936,184, more than double what he had sought to escape paying to the U.S. Treasury through a scheme to renounce his U.S. citizenship and conceal from the IRS large stock gains that he knew were reportable. This includes $248,525,339 in taxes, statutory interest on that tax and a nearly $100 million fraud penalty. Tinkov was additionally fined $250,000, which is the maximum allowed by statute, and sentenced to time served and one year of supervised release.

Tinkov was indicted in Sept. 2019 for willfully filing false tax returns, and was arrested on Feb. 26, 2020, in London, United Kingdom (UK). The United States sought extradition, and Tinkov contested on medical grounds. In public records, Tinkov has disclosed that he is undergoing a UK-based intensive treatment plan for acute myeloid leukemia and graft versus host disease, which has rendered him immunocompromised and unable to safely travel in the foreseeable future.

On Oct. 1, 2021, Tinkov entered a plea to one count of filing a false tax return. According to the plea agreement, Tinkov was born in Russia and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1996. From that time through 2013, he filed U.S. tax returns. In late 2005 or 2006, Tinkov founded Tinkoff Credit Services (TCS), a Russia-based branchless bank that provides its customers with online financial and banking services. Through a foreign entity, Tinkov indirectly held the majority of TCS shares.

In October 2013, TCS held an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange and became a multi-billion dollar, publicly traded company. As part of going public, Tinkov sold a small portion of his majority shareholder stake for more than $192 million, and his assets following the IPO had a fair market value of more than $1.1 billion. Three days after the successful IPO, Tinkov went to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia, to relinquish his U.S. citizenship.

As part of his expatriation, Tinkov was required to file a U.S. Initial and Annual Expatriation Statement. This form requires expatriates with a net worth of $2 million or more to report the constructive sale of their assets worldwide to the IRS as if those assets were sold on the day before expatriation. The taxpayer is then required to report and pay tax on the gain from any such constructive sale.

Tinkov was told of his filing and tax obligations by both the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and his U.S.-based accountant. When asked by his accountant if his net worth was more than $2 million for purposes of filling out the expatriation form, Tinkov lied and told him he did not have assets above $2 million. When his accountant later inquired whether his net worth was under $2 million, rather than answer the question, Tinkov filled out the expatriation form himself falsely reporting that his net worth was only $300,000. On Feb. 26, 2014, Tinkov filed a 2013 individual tax return that falsely reported his income as only $205,317. In addition, Tinkov did not report any of the gain from the constructive sale of his property worth more than $1.1 billion, nor did he pay the applicable taxes as required by law. In total, Tinkov caused a tax loss of $248,525,339, which he has paid in full with substantial penalties and interest as part of his plea, together with tax liabilities for other years.

Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg, Acting U.S. Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds for the Northern District of California and Acting Special Agent in Charge Darrell J. Waldon of the IRS-CI Washington, D.C. Field Office made the announcement.

The IRS-Criminal Investigation Division investigated the case. The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs and law enforcement partners in the UK secured Tinkov’s arrest overseas.

The UK’s Prince Andrew has filed a motion to dismiss a civil lawsuit launched by Virginia Giuffre, an accuser of the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein who alleges the Duke of York sexually abused her when she was underage.

I've been watching earthquake reports daily for several weeks. First, the USGS reports are purposely keeping a LOT of earthquakes off the reports. They also reduce the amplitude to a lower number, for instance a 5.1 becomes a 4.9, a 6.2 becomes a 5.8, etc.

What I've been seeing on the European earthquake reports are a lot of earthquakes recurring in one location for days or weeks on end. The first location I noticed was the South Shetland Islands area(might as well call it Antarctica). The second location is the Canary Islands. LOTS of earthquakes there, and ongoing, as are the S. Shetland Islands. Now the last few days there are many EQ in the Gulf of California. Most there(so far) have been mid 3's and low 4's. I'm going to watch more carefully and see if other places are rocking that USGS is hiding. You know it's really bad when even the geological service is corrupt. UnFingbelievable.

Another thing, on a website that covers both EQ's and volcanoes, they report a lot of EQ's in China that even EMSC isn't reporting. I'll report more when I can verify.

Doritos is leading people to hell with this crap

A new cartoon ad for Doritos Mexico has been released in time for Día de Los Muertos — the Day of the Dead. The commercial, which came out last week, already has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube. It features a family paying respects to their late uncle, who turns up with an unexpected guest.

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican and Latin American holiday observed November 1-2 that celebrates the memories of deceased loved ones.

In the ad, as the family steps toward an altar called an ofrenda, an older woman places a bowl of food on it. The woman then speaks in Spanish to a photo of an older man standing alone.

“Dearest brother, I miss you so much,” the woman says, according to a translation provided by a Pride Media staff member.

The altar’s orange glow from the candlelight turns blue, and a blue fog overtakes the ofrenda.

The family — including a young woman snacking on Doritos — looks surprised. The man in the photo appears to the family in front of the ofrenda, except now he has blue skin. The family welcomes him, calling him Uncle Alberto.

“Hello, family,” Uncle Alberto says. “How is everyone?”

Another ghostly man appears from behind Uncle Alberto with Uncle Alberto smiling on.

One of the family members says, “Who is he?”

“He’s Mario,” Uncle Alberto tells them, “my partner.” Uncle Alberto and Mario then hold hands and smile.

The family gasps before the older woman claps. She tells Uncle Alberto, “What a miracle! I thought you would be alone forever.”

Uncle Alberto and Mario embrace as the family walks toward them.

The ad cuts to the title: “It’s never late to be who you are.”

While some have praised the commercial for connecting queer identities to cultural traditions, others have commented that there is a mixed message of only being one's true, queer self in death.

In a statement to The Advocate, a representative from Doritos Mexico said the commercial is part of its #ProudAllYear platform, which celebrates and promotes respect and support for diversity.

“In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a celebration of life. It's a moment to share our respect, love, and unity for all the people we cherish, even if they are gone,” the representative explained. “And it’s an opportunity for Doritos Mexico to celebrate love and our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community every day. With the commercial ‘It’s never late to be who you are,’ we want to say that it's never too late to share your true self, and when you are ready, we will support you.”
