Be in China with family, they are working there. I'm just along for the ride. We live in this Transylvanian type historic mansion with other foreigners and a few Chinese. Animals treated very poorly. The cities were magnificent with architecture and color, but something felt wrong, no soul.

Jack Graham: Deceiver, believer or in-betweener?

In 2008, when a minister at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Texas was charged with solicitation of a minor, senior pastor Jack Graham, who is also a former Southern Baptist president, bragged that, in his forty years of ministry, he “never had one moral problem with a staff member, until now.”

 

With the facts that have come forth in recent days, many would say that Graham’s statement wasn’t true. Graham had a very big “moral problem” with a prior Prestonwood staff member. It was a “moral problem” and more. It was a clergyman’s crimes kept quiet.

 

In 1989, Prestonwood church officials learned of allegations that a staff minister, John Langworthy, “acted inappropriatedly with a teenage student.” A former Prestonwood staff intern, who was there at the time, has said that Langworthy “confessed to molesting boys in the church.”

 

With Jack Graham at the helm, Prestonwood church officials responded by quietly dismissing Langworthy. They got Langworthy off their own turf, and in doing so, they effectively unleashed him into the larger denominational body and placed many more kids at risk.

 

This “cover-up” didn’t come to light until two decades later.

 

Any fool can see that Jack Graham failed miserably back in 1989. He failed the people of his congregation. He failed the kids who tried to tell about what Langworthy had done. And he failed the kids in Langworthy’s future churches.

 

But that was 1989, and Graham’s failures are all too obvious. What I want to know is this: What happened in 2008?

 

What was Jack Graham thinking in 2008 when he claimed he had “never had one moral problem with a staff member”?

 

In the words of Willie Nelson, was Graham a “deceiver”? Was he flat-out lying about never having had “one moral problem”? Perhaps he simply saw no need to tell the truth in 2008 because two-decades of cover-up had already passed. The safety of kids be damned . . . keep up the smokescreen. Is that what Graham was thinking?

 

Or was Graham a “believer”? Did he really believe that what Langworthy did to kids didn’t constitute a “moral problem”? Perhaps Graham believes that child sex abuse isn’t a “moral problem” unless the perpetrator gets criminally convicted. Is that what Graham was thinking?

 

Or was it the third possibility? Maybe Graham was a plain old lukewarm “in-betweener.” Maybe he was a human being who simply said what was easiest. Maybe Graham wasn’t actively trying to deceive, and maybe belief was irrelevant to him. Maybe he was simply a human being who took the in-between easy road of keeping quiet about his own collusion, of lapsing into denial in the face of a dreadful past, and of protecting his own self-image, his own turf, his own career, and his own prestige.

 

It’s hard to actually know what Graham was thinking because Graham has refused to comment.

 

But whatever category you may place him in – whether as a deceiver, believer, or in-betweener – Jack Graham has provided a good illustration of why the Southern Baptist Convention needs better clergy accountability systems, including an accessible denominational database of convicted, admitted, and credibly-accused clergy.

 

We have seen the Graham pattern too often: When clergy sex abuse hits on their own turf, pastors typically fail to make kid-protection the top priority. Since Southern Baptists refuse the implementation of any denominational system to compensate for this pattern, the result is a denomination in which known, reported, and even self-admitted clergy child molesters can church-hop with ease.

 

John Langworthy left Prestonwood and went to Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, Mississippi. Like Graham, Mississippi church officials also made grievous mistakes in dealing with abuse accusations.

 

Langworthy has now publicly admitted that he had “sexual indiscretions with younger males” while working at a Texas church. Last week, he was indicted on charges that, even prior to his stint in Texas, he sexually abused five boys from two other Baptist churches in Mississippi. The boys were between 10 and 13 years old.

California Study Shows 50 Times More People Than Projected Have Had Coronavirus, Now Immune

A team of researchers from Stanford University and other California colleges recruited volunteers in Santa Clara County to take blood tests and the stunning results show that 50 times more people than projected have had the coronavirus and now possess the antibodies that makes them immune.

 

Some 3,000 people volunteered to take a blood test, U.S. Spectator reported:

 

The result was positive in 1.5 percent of cases. Adjusting for age, gender and ethnicity the results suggest that 2.8 percent of people in the county had already had the virus. That might not seem many, but at the time of the study — on April 4 and 5 — only 1,094 people in the county were recorded as having the virus. The study suggests the real figure is between 48,000 and 81,000.

 

Like many studies which have been pre-published in order to aid understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic, the paper produced by the Stanford-led team has not yet been peer-reviewed. Moreover, it took place in a part of the United States where very few people have so far tested positive with the virus. It would be interesting to see the experiment repeated in New York City, where recorded infections are far higher.

 

But it is one more piece in a jigsaw which is slowly building up a picture of a virus which may be far more prevalent — and possibly far less deadly — than was at first believed. As has been argued here before, knowing the general level of infection in the population is absolutely crucial because this informs both the virulence and the mortality rate of the infection. If only a small percentage of the population have had the virus, then it might be worth continuing with lockdown policies. But if SARS-Cov-2 is already endemic in the population there is nothing we can do to stop it but no great reason to try to stop it, either: it has already ripped its way through the population with only a small proportion showing any symptoms.

 

The Spectator reported on a similar study in northwestern Germany where 15 percent of the population was found to have the antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus strain that causes the novel coronavirus.

 

“Were that to be reflected in the wider population, it would still mean we were a long way short of the 60 percent infection rate which scientific advisers originally considered necessary for ‘herd immunity’ of the population,” the Spectator reported. “But it would mean we were well on the way.”

The U.S.-Canada border restrictions will be extended for another 30 days as both countries continue to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Saturday at a press briefing.

Cuomo Hires Firm With Close Ties To CCP To Develop Reopening Plan

 

Earlier this week, Allahpundit wrote about New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s strategy of developing a “Trump-proof” strategy for reopening businesses in his state without letting the President take credit for it or Cuomo taking the blame over a longer shutdown and/or a resurgence of the virus, depending on how it plays out. As part of this strategy, Cuomo has hired the consultant firm McKinsey & Company to help him develop the plan.

While this may not look like an unusual choice at first glance, a deeper look into McKinsey’s history makes them a very problematic option at best. It’s not that they aren’t experienced in such things… they absolutely are, so this sort of work should be right up their alley. But what should be making people suspicious is the firm’s long, very close ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Their associations with the Chinese government are lengthy and well documented.

 

For example, when China launched its One Belt, One Road initiative several years ago (later rebranded as the Belt Road Initiative, or BRI), the New York Times reported that it was McKinsey that was selected to promote their efforts globally. They “sprang into action,” producing numerous reports that were widely cited in Chinese state-owned media, talking up the program in glowing terms.

On their own website, McKinsey brags about the fact that a major portion of their business is in China working for the CCP. Fully 30% of their clients there are state-owned enterprises and other CCP governmental organizations. Another large slice of their business there is done for multinational corporations based in or with strong ties to China.

Their clients in these efforts included IBM and General Motors, both of which became famous for outsourcing jobs and supply chain sources.

McKinsey recently held one of its company retreats in China. And, as reported in the New York Times, the location they chose was only a few miles from one of the larger Uyghur concentration camps.

With all this in mind, do you really believe that McKinsey would develop or even endorse any sort of policy in New York that didn’t paint the CCP in a favorable light?

1 DEAD, 1 INJURED IN SMALL PLANE CRASH IN PLACER COUNTY

 

AUBURN, Calif. (AP) - A pilot was killed and a passenger was injured in a small plane crash in Northern California.

A Placer County Sheriff's official said the single-engine aircraft crashed into a field near Auburn Municipal Airport shortly after taking off Saturday morning just after 11 a.m. and burst into flames.

County firefighters said the pilot died and a passenger suffered minor injuries. NTSB investigators were looking into the cause remotely because they can't travel to the crash site due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One if by Land Two if by Sea

The origin of the phrase

 

“One, if by land, and two, if by sea” phrase was coined by the American poet, Henry W. Longfellow in his poem, Paul Revere’s Ride. It was a reference to the secret signal orchestrated by Revere during his historic ride from Boston to Concord on the verge of American Revolutionary War. The signal was meant to alert patriots about the route the British troops chose to advance to Concord. Few days before the historic ride, Revere was preparing his mission and arranged with three fellow patriots to set up a light signal in case if British troops started their advance to Concord. To give even more information, it was agreed that one lantern meant that the troops chose the longer land route and two lanterns meant the shorter route by water, leaving less time for patriots to react. On the night of April 18, 1775 Dr. Warren dispatched his most trusted messenger to alert patriot leaders in Concord, John Hancock and Samuel Adams that British plan to attack to arrest them and destroy the ammunition supplies prepared to stage armed struggle against the authorities.

 

When P.R. started his ride, Robert John Newman, the sexton (custodian) of the Old North church and Captain John Pulling carried two lanterns to the steeple of the church while Thomas Bernard kept the watch outside on the street. The two lanterns were meant as the message that the British forces left from Boston Common, which then bordered the Charles River, and rowed over to Cambridge. The place for the signal, the Old North Church in Boston’s North end was chosen for two reasons. One was that the Old North was at the time the tallest building in Boston. Even today its steeple is easily visible from far away in many directions standing high at 191 ft (58 m). The second reason why Revere chose this specific church was because of the cooperation of Robert John Newman, the sexton (custodian) of the church who was a fellow patriot and had access to church in the middle of the night. Despite its historical significance, the “One if by Land Two if by Sea” signal was just a backup plan. It was meant to warn patriots in Chalrestown, a borough across the river from Boston in case if the messenger himself could not make it there from Boston to start his ride. With so many British troops present in Boston at that time P.R. could easily be arrested by patrols. But at the end he was able to safely leave Boston by boat and ride himself so the signal was in fact redundant. With this a popular myth was created that the lanterns were intended for Revere himself who was waiting for the signal across the river.

 

This is how P.R. himself described his plan to use “Lanthorns” in a letter to Jeremy Belknap, Corresponding Secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society dated in 1798.

The Sunday before, by desire of Dr. Warren, I had been to Lexington, to Mess. Hancock and Adams, who were at the Rev. Mr. Clark's. I returned at Night thro Charlestown; there I agreed with a Col. Conant, and some other Gentlemen, that if the British went out by Water, we would shew two Lanthorns in the North Church Steeple; and if by Land, one, as a Signal; for we were aprehensive it would be dificult to Cross the Charles River, or git over Boston neck. If one were to think of a perfect symbol of American Revolutionary War, perhaps short of the Declaration of Independence itself, if would probably be the Paul Revere’s lanterns. In an interesting twist, the “Official Paul Revere Lantern” currently displayed in the Old North Church is historic but not the original. REDDING POLICE ARREST MAN RELEASED FROM PRISON FIVE DAYS AGO

 

REDDING, Calif. - Redding Police Officials say they arrested a man just five days after he had been released from state prison because of coronavirus concerns.

Officials say this occurred on Saturday, April 18 at 2:21 a.m., officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the 800 block of State Street on the report of a white male subject prowling near a residence in the area.

Police say while officers were en route to the call for service, the reporting party informed the Shascom 911 dispatcher that the male subject was trying to get into the residence by repeatedly banging on the front door while aggressively manipulating the locked door handle.

Officers say they arrived on scene and located Anthony Parks, 31, of Shasta Lake City, in front of the residence. Officers immediately observed that Parks displayed the signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant.

An investigation of the incident revealed that Mr. Parks had prowled through several residential yards prior to being contacted by the Redding Police Department. Officers further determined that Mr. Parks was on Post Release Community Supervision for violation of Penal Code 422- Criminal/Terrorist Threats and Penal Code 21310- Possession of Concealed Dirk/Dagger, and his release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) had been expedited as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kentucky state legislature passed a bill requiring ID to vote. Democrat governor Andy Beshear, who has only been on the job for a few months, vetoed the bill.

 

Well it turns out Kentucky has a relatively low threshold for overriding a governor’s veto, which only requires a simply majority.

What came of this exposure? Next to nothing. The company's were not forced to list the heavy metal, etc. They were required to add, "If you have questions please call blah, blah, blah.

-comes to this anon and states they've been hearing voices, and asks what I think about that, in a mildly concerned way.

 

at this point anon poured them a cup of covfefe and sat them down to try to explain, in eli5 terms, what is happening.

 

it was hard to do in such a way as they understood what was being conveyed without them triggering. Had to use the literature in the drugbox. was helpful in that regard, surprisingly.

 

actually made explaining how the mkultra stuff works much easier. was still a chore, kek
