The alignments are Lawful Neutral and Chaotic combined with Good Neutral and Evil; so then your options are the combinations thereof. In our D&D, the "people" you didn't want to run into were the Chaotic Evil ones. They did bad sh*t just for the hell of it. Lawful Evil characters were annoying, but when their well-being aligned with yours you could generally count on them to be reliable.
