G1 and G2 Geomagnetic Storm this weekend.

A new sunspot group numbered 2736 formed rapidly in the northwest quadrant during the past 24 hours and is now producing minor B-Class and C-Class solar flares. The largest thus far was a C4.8 flare at 11:18 UTC (Mar 20). A coronal mass ejection (CME) was associated with the event and may have a weak Earth directed component. More to follow once a proper CME tracking model becomes available. Additional flares of the minor variety, with a small chance for a moderate M-Flare will be possible during the next day or so.

Update: A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch will be in effect beginning Saturday when a coronal mass ejection (CME) observed on Wednesday is expected to possibly sweep past Earth. Should this take place, visible aurora will be likely this weekend at middle to high latitudes. The plasma cloud was the result of a C4.8 x-ray event earlier today. RIO DE JANEIRO — Former Brazilian President Michel Temer was arrested Thursday on corruption charges, a dramatic development in a sprawling graft probe that has roiled Latin America’s largest nation and shows no sign of slowing.

A truck carrying nuclear fuel to one of Brazil's power plants has come under attack by a group of armed men who engaged in a shootout with police officers guarding the convoy.

The uranium shipment came under attack on Tuesday in the town of Frade, about 30 km (19 miles) from Angra dos Reis, where the Angra 2 nuclear power plant is located. Following an intense fire exchange with the gunmen, the officers, none of whom were injured, managed to thwart the assault, police said.
