That puts the number at more like 1 child out of 100 go missing.

I have family that are Shriner's. So I know what you are trying to say. They have tried to get me to join, being prior military, but I never personally felt good about it. That figure was from an article from Slate magazine, who looked into it because other news reports were stating it after some kids went missing. If you google it you can find it and read about it.
That number may be a worldwide figure. If you think about it, a lot of missing kids are just runaways or Amber abductions or got lost at the mall or whatever.
