On Monday, the Trump campaign launched a hilarious new parody website called “Truth Over Facts.” It mocks presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s numerous gaffes by launching an “investigation” into their hidden meaning. The website’s title comes from Biden’s notorious declaration that, unlike Trump, “We choose unity over division. We choose science over fiction. We choose truth over facts.”

The least bit of true investigation would have demonstrated just how much of a parody the website truly is. Mnuchin, Powell face Senate hearing on CARES Act spending

The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee is holding a hearing Tuesday to review spending under the $2.2 trillion CARES Act, after a report was released detailing money meant to help businesses as well as state and local governments hurting financially as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a written statement ahead of the hearing, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin discussed the dire condition of the economy, claiming that the situation will improve as the country gradually reopens.

“We have had to take unprecedented steps to shut down significant parts of the economy in the interest of public health,” Mnuchin said. “As a result, in the second quarter of this year, we are continuing to see large unemployment and other negative indicators. It is important to realize that the large numbers represent real people. This is why it is so important to begin bringing people back to work in a safe way.”

Of the $500 billion in spending detailed by the Congressional Oversight Commission’s first report on the program, $454 billion is meant to support Federal Reserve lending facilities. Mnuchin said that since March 17 he has approved nine such facilities.

The remaining $46 billion is reserved for the Treasury Department for loans to passenger and cargo air carriers, as well as companies “critical to maintaining national security,” but, according to the report, none of that has been disbursed yet.

“The Treasury has received applications for these loans and is in the process of reviewing them. The Treasury has not yet made any loans to the airline industry and businesses critical to national security under these applications,” the commission’s report said. “The Treasury has, however, issued grants and loans to the airline industry under the Payroll Support Program under Division A, Title IV, Subtitle B of the CARES Act.”

Mnuchin also noted that the government is processing $530 billion for more than 4.2 million forgivable small business loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

Lawmakers from both parties have criticized the PPP, which has been plagued by a host of problems. Many businesses were unable to get loans before the initial funding was exhausted. A second round of loans faced computer processing delays and a number of publicly traded companies ended up receiving money that Mnuchin demanded be paid back to the government.

Mnuchin will likely come under tough questioning from senators Tuesday about the program's struggles.

Another hallmark of the CARES Act was the direct payment made to millions of individuals and families. Mnuchin said that the government has issued upwards of 140 million such payments, with the average family of four receiving $3,400.

Also testifying Tuesday is Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. In a prepared statement, Powell discussed measures already taken to support a struggling U.S. economy.

“In March, we lowered our policy interest rate to near zero, and we expect to maintain interest rates at this level until we are confident that the economy has weathered recent events and is on track to achieve our maximum-employment and price-stability goals,” he cited as an example.

For his part, Powell pledged to reveal the names and other details of the entities that borrow from the emergency programs the central bank has set up to offset the economic hit from the viral outbreak.

In his prepared testimony, Powell said the central bank will disclose the amounts borrowed and the interest rates it levies under its programs to provide credit for large corporations, state and local governments, and medium-sized businesses.

“We are deeply committed to transparency, and recognize that the need for transparency is heightened when we are called upon to use our emergency powers,” his testimony says.

Despite rising unemployment that has resulted in tens of millions of Americans without work, Mnuchin offered words of optimism as financial programs aim to provide economic relief while medical professionals work on therapies and a potential vaccine.

“While these are unprecedented and difficult times, these programs are making a positive impact on people,” he said. Together we will destroy the COVID-19 virus, and our country will emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever.”

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Two gyms that have been ignoring the state's shutdown order and have been repeatedly warned by state officials are now facing a lawsuit and hefty fine.

State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is giving the owners of Northwest Fitness Company in Puyallup and PA Fitness in Arlington one last chance to shut down within 24 hours of Tuesday morning or he will go forward with the civil suit alleging violations against the Consumer Protection Act.

Both gyms were given formal Cease & Desist orders on Friday and both were found to remain in operations Monday.

The state contends that not only is violating the shutdown order risking the health of its customers and employees but creates an unfair advantage against those gyms that are complying with the order.

“We understand the financial impact of Stay Home, Stay Healthy on small businesses, but that does not exempt you from the requirement to remain closed,” the Cease & Desist letters read. “It is also unfair to your competitors for you to be open for business while they are complying with the Proclamation and making sacrifices for the benefit of the community. Opening your business when competing fitness centers have closed as required by law to protect the health of all Washingtonians gives you an unfair advantage over your competitors. In order to level the playing field and ensure the market is fair for all, you must close your doors.”

Ferguson says the court can impose $2,000 fines per violation of the Consumer Protection Act. Any criminal charges would have to be filed by local prosecutors.

Former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign is coming under fire for their Latino outreach efforts or rather lack thereof. As more than 32 million Latinos are expected to vote in November, Biden's campaign has failed to rectify the Obama administration's tough deportation policies for illegal aliens, POLITICO reported.

Instead of attempting to reach out and form a relationship with this group of voters, Biden's campaign appears to be turning a blind eye to Latinos, at least that's what Democratic operatives believe.

"I do not think that the Biden campaign thinks that Latinos are part of their path to victory," Jess Morales Rocketto, the former digital organizing director for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign, told POLITICO.

According to The Week, more than 20 Democratic operatives believe Hispanics are vital to Biden's success this November, especially in states like Arizona and Texas that could be flipped. But the operatives don't see outreach efforts or any kind of ground game from the Biden campaign. The Wuhan coronavirus pandemic has made that outreach even more difficult.

The fact that Latinos weren't central to his primary strategy has meant Biden's campaign has more ground to make up.

All of this will come down to whether or not Biden is able to win over Latinos who once supported progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). As of now, Sanders enthusiasts are not thrilled with Biden as the presumptive nominee.

Biden was so focused on trying to win over African Americans in the south that he forgot about people in flyover states like Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. He forgot about Latinos in the southwest, like California, Arizona and Texas.

A former top enforcer for Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s cartel who vanished from federal parole supervision in San Diego was found murdered in Mexico alongside his sister and brother-in-law, officials said.

The bodies of Jose Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa — known as “El Chino Antrax,” or “the Chinese Anthrax” — his sister Ada Jimena Arechiga Gamboa, and her husband, Juan Garcia, were discovered in Ada’s BMW Saturday, abandoned on a dirt road in Culiacán, Sinaloa, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

All three were found wrapped in blankets, according to the Associated Press.

When the bodies were first discovered, a leaked photograph showed a man who appeared to be Arechiga, according to the Union-Tribune.

The Sinaloa state prosecutors’ office identified him as José Rodrigo “A,” providing only his last initial, as Mexican law dictates.
