The fear porn and bogeymen over oxy and vicodin is pretty much bullshit now. This isn't even nanny state it's always misleading.

Stop the uses of the terms 'opioids' and 'opiates.'

The problems are illegal street drugs. What's the fucking problem with saying it? The city of SF hands out 400,000 free needles…per month.

Most anywhere, heroin is as easy to get on the streets now as weed.

Even then, it's primarily Fentanyl followed by heroin and meth.

Why not specifically say fucking Fentanyl?

Screwed because those dealing with pain get treated by overly cautious doctors as if they are potential crackheads by asking to extend a 5/375 script for an extra month.

Islamic State child soldier executes Nigerian Christian on video

 

A Nigerian Christian man who was executed on video by a child soldier of the Islamic State has been identified as college student Ropvil Daciya Dalep, 22.

 

Dalep was returning to the University of Maiduguri in Borno state from Christmas break when he was kidnapped by the Islamic State West Africa Province on January 9, according to the non-profit organization Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

 

Roughly two weeks later, a video surfaced showing a masked child around the age of 8 years old standing behind Dalep, who was kneeling in the dirt with his hands tied behind his back.

 

"This is one of the Christians from Plateau state," the boy said in Hausa, the major language in Northern Nigeria. "We want to tell all Christians that we have not forgotten what you did to our parents and grandparents. Christians all over the world must know that we will never forget their atrocities against us, until we avenge the bloodshed visited on us."

Tokyo prosecutors obtain new arrest warrant for ex-Nissan chief Ghosn

 

Tokyo prosecutors on Thursday obtained a fresh arrest warrant for former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn for leaving Japan while on bail in violation of the immigration control law.

 

The prosecutors also secured warrants for three others allegedly involved in helping Ghosn leave Japan in late December. Ghosn announced himself to be in Lebanon on Dec. 31.

 

The three are Michael Taylor, 59, a former member of the U.S. Army Special Forces known as the Green Berets, George Zayek, 60, and Peter Taylor, 26.

 

The three are suspected of taking the 65-year-old former auto tycoon to a hotel in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, and hiding him inside a box before taking him to Kansai International Airport in the prefecture and helping him pass a security inspection there despite knowing Ghosn's bail conditions did not allow him to travel overseas.

 

There was no record of Ghosn's departure, and Justice Minister Masako Mori has said he left the country illegally.

 

Ghosn, who holds Brazilian, French and Lebanese nationality, arrived in Lebanon via Turkey after leaving Japan. As Japan does not have an extradition treaty with Lebanon, Ghosn is unlikely to return to Japan.

 

He was facing trial in Japan over the alleged underreporting of his remuneration by billions of yen in Nissan's securities reports during the eight years through March 2018 as well as misuse of company funds.

 

After arriving in Beirut, Ghosn said he fled Japan to escape the country's "rigged" justice system.

 

On Wednesday, Tokyo prosecutors searched the office of lawyer Junichiro Hironaka, who had represented Ghosn until earlier this month, in connection with Ghosn's escape to Lebanon.

Battle of Ilipa, 206BC, Rome vs. Carthage. Scipio, 30, commanding the Roman forces vs. Hasdrubal & Mago for Carthage. A critical day in the extended Punic Wars. The stakes could not have been higher. These generational wars had already seen Rome come within a whisker of annihilation. Ilipa would decide who controlled Iberia, a major strategic piece, from whence the N. Some claim the Carthaginians outnumbered the Romans, others that it was an even match. Hard to say, yet we do know that veteran infantry formed the core of each army, but that about half of each army was composed of Iberians. The difference being that the Carthaginians had hired mercs, but the Romans had established alliances with some Iberian tribes. Fighting for money vs. fighting for your God, nation & family. A world of difference, yes? Let's call it 55,000 men per side, with infantry, cavalry, & Iberian auxiliaries. None of the Iberians were trained to true army standards, & most lacked critical battle experience. Hasdrubal/Mago had 32 war elephants.

 

The armies came into proximity, and each side constructed a fortified camp from which to conduct operations. Feeling each other out, the commanders would bring the men out of the camps each morning and form up, ready for battle, but not overeager to make a rash move. Each morning, the Carthaginians would come out and form up first, with the veteran heavy infantry in the center, the cavalry on the wings, and auxiliaries in front. The Romans would form up facing the enemy in a similar formation. Hasdrubal made the fatal mistake of thinking it would be the same on the inevitable day of battle, a battle where all knew that no mercy would be shown.

 

Then came the morning that Scipio had the men roused & fed in the dark, & sent out in a totally different order of battle. An invincible order, created by a brilliant mind. Imperator! First, the auxiliary skirmishers went forward in unexpected numbers & pushed back their enemy counterparts, while the main army came up immediately behind them & took position much closer to the Carthaginian camp than beforeβ€”an in-your-face position, with Iberians in the center & the legions anchoring the wings to the center, with cavalry protecting the wings, which were extended to envelop the enemy line. The fighting auxiliaries were brought back and placed in position to support the wings. But Scipio refused the center! Gaze on the battlefield chart, lads, and allow your minds to feast.

 

Meanwhile, the Carthaginians rushed out of their camp and took position. Unfed! Only it was the wrong position, with them unable to modify it in the immediate presence of the enemy. Their infantry strength in the center was completely negated by the presence of inferior troops standing back maybe 1/4 mile, or one might imagine even 300 yards, but refusing battle. If the infantry advanced, it would be bagged & crushed by auxiliaries in strength to the front, while the legions came in on their flanks. If they tried to move some infantry to support the flanks, Scipio's Iberians would crush them from the front. A no kidding zugzwang. All they could do was stand there and wait for the Romans to move. But Scipio makes them stand there for hours, with their body fuel reserves nearing zero. Then he attacks with the wings, and the Iberians on the other side were no match for the legions. As Scipio foresaw in detail. As the wings were gradually driven in, the Carthaginian center infantry tried to retreat, but fell into disarray and was routed. Survivors fled to the camp and prepared for Roman assault as night came on. But the mercs deserted, and all the Carthaginians could do was make a run for it in the dark. A total failure, as the Romans quickly pursued, caught them, and destroyed the remnants of the army. Commanders escaped on fast horses, probably with personal guard & staff. The rest, kaput.

 

Are we not seeing something analogous play out in our nation, with the focus on DC? A plan put in motion, for which the enemy has no answer whatsoever. Battle over before it begins. All over but the cryin'. Right now, one might say that the commies are having their wings crushed in, about to flee to their stockade, but knowing there is no escape. Look no further than this story from corn country, Iowa, where a felon, convicted of no less than 15 sexual assaults against children aged 1 to 13, has turned justice on its head by declaring that he is now a woman. According to the Des Moines Register, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office is no longer seeking the commitment of a former Midwest Christian Services student convicted of myriad sex crimes because the individual now identifies as a woman.

 

Court records show the state dismissed the application on Jan. 9. Attorney general spokesman Lynn Hicks wouldn’t comment on the reason for the dismissal other than to say β€œan offender’s hormone levels are an important part of substantiating an offender’s likelihood of recidivism.”

 

In November, the Storm Lake Times reported that Joseph Matthew Smith, a 23-year-old convicted of molesting a fellow MCS student in 2014, was β€œundergoing medical treatment that is needed prior to (Smith) potentially undergoing gender reassignment surgery.”

 

Smith has received treatment for gender reassignment over the past two years at Newton Correctional Facility. She first expressed a desire to β€œget started on transgender classification” in October 2017 and started using female pronouns.

 

Smith has expressed a preference to identify as Josie, according to court documents.

 

β€œWe don’t believe we have evidence sufficient to prove Josie Smith has a significant chance of reoffending,” Hicks said late last week.

 

An Iowa Department of Corrections spokesman said Smith was transferred on Saturday to the Sioux City Residential Treatment Facility for transitional release. He did not say when Smith will be released.

 

Hicks cautioned the public not to overreact to Smith’s upcoming release. Smith will be subject to sex-offender registration requirements for the rest of her life, Hicks said, which includes regular meetings with a probation officer and a listing on an attorney general clearinghouse.

 

β€œJosie Smith will be subject to strict sex-offender reporting required of those who commit the crimes she did,” Hicks said. β€œShe’ll be subject to supervision for the rest of her life.”

 

Hicks said the attorney general’s office has never encountered a case exactly like Smith’s.

 

A preliminary report prepared by the state’s expert, Dr. Jeffrey Davis, says Smith molested as many as 15 victims, ranging from ages 1 to 13, before being sentenced to prison in December 2015.

 

The report found the likelihood of re-offending within five years of release exceeded 20% because victims were of both genders, and because Smith was under age 25 and never had a long-term relationship.

 

β€œMr. Smith has not had an intimate relationship,” the report says. β€œHis sexual encounters appear to have primarily involved molestation, including his own molestation by multiple perpetrators, or his victimization of others.”

 

The report says Smith was molested repeatedly as a child in Louisiana, starting at age 7.

 

The report recommended Smith be confined at the Cherokee Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) in Cherokee for an indefinite period. But it was premised upon Smith having the sex drive of a man.

 

Dr. Tracy Thomas, a forensic psychologist and former clinical director of CCUSO, said the statute that outlines civil commitment requires the state to β€œessentially prove an offender has a chance offending greater than 51% for the rest of his life.” That becomes harder to prove when an offender significantly lowers his testosterone levels, which has a significantly higher impact on sex drive than estrogen.

 

Thomas said there are no women confined at CCUSO.

 

β€œFrom an evaluator’s standpoint, our recommendation is based on whether someone is more than likely to re-offend,” Thomas said on Monday. β€œBetween 5% and 15% of sex offenders re-offend, so it takes an extraordinarily high burden to prove someone has a 51% chance.”

Chinese coronavirus will bring jobs back to America, US commerce secretary says

 

President Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to bring jobs back to the United States. According to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the outbreak of the deadly Wuhan coronavirus might help him fulfil that pledge.

 

Since it first infected customers at an animal market in the city of Wuhan in December, the SARS-like coronavirus has killed at least 170 people, infected nearly 8,000 people, and spread to every region in China and 19 other countries.

 

But to US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, there’s an upside.

 

Speaking on Fox Business on Thursday, Ross said that while he doesn’t want to take β€œa victory lap over a very unfortunate, very malignant disease,” the outbreak will β€œhelp to accelerate the return of jobs to North America, some to US, probably some to Mexico as well.”

Others have reposted the post below, which I'm also going to do. I'm not so much interested in their purported connections and some purported future events as in what they're describing that is health-related. This also reminds me of reports I've read of homosexual behavior in birds exposed to mercury in their environment that was reversed when that environment was cleaned up, also anecdotal about comparable with adult males, who reluctantly found (I assume because it changed their whole lifestyle) their attractions undone, makes me wonder about mercury dental fillings. Russia closes its Far East border with China in attempt to prevent spread of new coronavirus

 

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order to close the country's border with China in the Far East, Russia's largest and most remote region.

 

It follows instructions from Vladimir Putin on Wednesday for officials to do all they can to prevent the spread of the dangerous new Chinese coronavirus.

 

In addition, Mishustin instructed Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova to provide the public with daily updates about the status of coronavirus in Russia. So far, the country has no confirmed cases.

The clause concerning religion reads, in full: β€œCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” A full quotation undoes her conclusion that the Constitution prohibits religious people from equal access to public funds. That is not only historically and legally inaccurate, it’s obviously textually inaccurate from any unbiased person’s plain reading.

In other words, she’s doing exactly what Barr says she’s doing, while pretending that she is not. Stewart is making a β€œsecular effort to drive religion out of our lives” and trying to impose her values on religious people while β€œnot accommodating the freedom of religion of people of faith.” Her values say that only pagans β€” people with atheist, pantheist, syncretist, or agnostic religious beliefs β€” may fully access public goods. Deutsche Bank Reports Huge Loss for 2019

 

Deutsche Bank reported a whopping loss for the last three months of 2019 and for the full year as it cut staff and wrote down the value of assets, affirming its status as one of Europe’s most troubled big lenders.

 

The bank said it lost 1.5 billion euros, or $1.6 billion, in the last three months of 2019, bringing the total loss for the year to 5.3 billion euros. In 2018 the bank effectively broke even for the year and in the fourth quarter.

 

The Frankfurt-based bank, once Europe’s largest by assets, is in the midst of a desperate attempt to recover from years of scandal and mismanagement that has caused its share price to plummet more than 90 percent since 2007.

 

Among other things, the bank absorbed severance payments as it eliminated more than 4,000 jobs, bringing the total number of employees to 88,000. The bank also recorded losses as it acknowledged that some assets had lost value.

Law enforcement officials in the U.S. and U.K. have negotiated a deal that sells out the privacy rights of the public in both nations. For Americans, it will effectively abrogate Fourth Amendment protections, and subject their data to search and seizure by foreign police.

The agreement includes a weak standard for review, that doesn’t meet the 4th Amendment’s warrant requirement

Wilbur Ross Says China's Coronavirus Outbreak Will "Help Bring Jobs Back To America"

 

Anxieties about the knock-on impact to the global economy from the coronavirus outbreak, which appears on track to shave whole percentage points off China's GDP, have pushed stock futures back into the red Thursday morning.

 

But during an interview with Maria Bartiromo that aired on Thursday, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross argued that the North American economy might benefit from the outbreak as companies "reevaluate their supply chains" to factor in emergent outbreak risk.

 

While Ross insisted that he didn't want to appear insensitive, it's pretty clear to him that the outbreak could help "accelerate the return of jobs to North America."

 

"First of all, every American's heart has to go out to the victims of the coronavirus. I don't want to talk about a victory lap over a very unfortunate very malignant disease. But the fact is, it does give business another thing to consider when they go through their review of their supply chain. On top of all the other things - you had SARS, you had the African swine virus there, now you have this - it's another risk factor that people need to take into account."

US sanctions head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization – Treasury

 

The Treasury Department has announced sanctions on the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and its head Ali Akbar Salehi as the US continues its pressure campaign on Tehran after ditching the international Iran nuclear deal.

 

Though the Trump administration has accused Salehi and his organization of striving to produce a nuclear weapon, the AEOI also oversees the civilian nuclear sector in Iran.

 

The sanctions are the latest in a string of economic penalties applied to Iran since the US unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, or Iran nuclear deal) in 2018, after accusing Tehran of noncompliance. Iran has responded by gradually rolling back its own commitments, but it has continued working with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

 

Iran scrapped all of the limitations imposed by the agreement this month, following the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani by the US.

 

Salehi first led the AEOI between 2009 and 2010, and he has been in charge ever since his second stint began in 2013. Before his appointment to Iran’s nuclear agency, he represented Iran in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Under Salehi’s leadership, Iran was deemed by the IAEA to be complying with all of the JCPOA’s requirements as recently as last year, even as the US argued otherwise.

 

Moreover, multiple US and IAEA assessments have failed to link Salehi’s organization with Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program.

 

While the Trump administration has been squeezing Iran’s economy with round after round of sanctions, the Treasury Department also announced on Thursday that it has successfully established a channel to allow the sale of essential medical supplies to the Islamic Republic. The humanitarian channel is operated by the Swiss government, which has served as a mediator between Tehran and Washington in the past.

 

The Treasury will also renew sanctions waivers to allow non-US firms to work at a series of Iranian nuclear sites, Reuters reported earlier on Thursday. The waivers give European, Russian and Chinese companies another 60 days to continue work at the Arak heavy water reactor, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and the Tehran Research Reactor, among other sites.

Baton Rouge, LA β€” Derek Harris is an honorably discharged veteran who put his life on the line for his country in Operation Desert Storm. His years of service to his country were but dust in the wind, however, to the state who threw him in a cage for the rest of his life for selling less than a gram of weed to an undercover cop.

 

The Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution reads as follows: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. Here at the Free Thought Project we feel that life in prison without the possibility of parole for selling .69 grams of a plant is not only excessive but extremely cruel. Sadly, however, it is not unusual.

 

This week, Harris’ case is up for review by the Louisiana State Supreme Court and several of the justices are saying enough is enough. Thanks to a corrupt and defunct system that prosecutes non-violent drug offenders worse than child molesters, however, Harris is facing several major hurdles.

 

Due to a precedent set by a previous state court, convicts cannot challenge their sentences after they’ve already gone through the appeal process. That means Harris has very few options at his disposal.

 

Harris’ nightmare began back in 2008 when an undercover cop knocked on his door and asked to buy some weed. Harris had just .69 grams β€” barely enough to roll two joints β€” and sold it for $30. He was then raided by police, kidnapped and thrown in a cage. In 2012, 15th Judicial District Judge Durwood Conque found Harris guilty of marijuana distribution, a Vermilion Parish prosecutor invoked the state’s habitual-offender law, and Conque sentenced Harris to life as a four-time loser.

 

Harris has struggled with mental illness since he came back from Iraq. This led him down a path of addiction and to maintain that addiction, Harris sold drugs and stole small items. However, Harris never hurt anyone and all of his crimes were misdemeanors.

 

As NOLA.com reports:

 

Harris’ prior convictions dated back to a 1991 conviction for dealing cocaine, according to court filings. He was subsequently convicted of simple robbery in 1992 and 1993, simple burglary in 1997 and theft under $500 in 2005, said Cormac Boyle, an attorney with the Promise of Justice Initiative who argued Harris’ case Monday.

 

Boyle said ample evidence suggests a struggle with mental illness linked to his military service, not a penchant for criminality behind his rap sheet. But that mitigating evidence never came up as Conque dealt Harris a life sentence with no shot at parole under a habitual-offender law that gives prosecutors broad discretion.

 

β€œCourts have a duty to make sure the punishment fits the crime. That didn’t happen here,” Boyle argued Monday. β€œThis court has always retained the right to say a sentence is excessive.”

The border patrol recently discovered the longest-ever drug-smuggling tunnel along the southern border, stretching approximately three-quarters of a mile between San Diego and Tijuana, according to local news outlet Q13 Fox.
