Filmmaker Gabriel Shipton hopes his new documentary film Ithaka will reveal a new side of his brother, WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange.

 

Shipton, who produced the film, will attend its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival on Sunday along with director Ben Lawrence.

 

β€œThe audience only knows Julian through media headlines,” Shipton said.

 

β€œThe film is about [Julian’s] family, it’s a story which has never been told before.”

 

The film follows Assange’s 76-year-old father John’s campaign for justice beginning in 2019 when images of Assange being arrested from the Ecuadorian embassy in London were beamed around the world.

 

β€œOver the last two years [John] has been campaigning around the world non-stop,” Shipton said.

 

β€œIt takes its toll but that’s what this film is about, is how does somebody keep going when you’re up against this adversary? When you’re up against the most powerful force on the planet?”

 

Assange is facing up to 175 years in prison for his role in the organisation’s release of classified US diplomatic cables and Pentagon files on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, some which revealed war crimes committed by the US.

β€’ How the state government deals with civil claims of child sexual abuse

 

β€’ The processes that led to the standing down of 20 state service employees at various times in the past two years who were subject to child sexual abuse allegations

 

β€’ A lack of action or slow progress on implementing some of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse recommendations

 

β€’ Whether the state's integrity system is equipped to identify, investigate and address issues of child sexual abuse

 

Ms Norton said it was not the commission's intention to duplicate previous work that had been done.

 

"We expect that one of the themes … must be why have past reviews and reports not been able to solve the problems they have identified," she said.

 

"Are there cultural and structural reasons why these problems persist, to what extent have Tasmania's size and demographics affected past responses."

 

Public hearings are expected to be held in February and March in Hobart and Launceston, where the commission will hear from witnesses and victim-survivors who want to will be able to share their experiences.

 

Ms Norton said the commission's final report β€” due in August β€” would provide the government with a "blueprint" for protecting children and it would then be up to the government to make the changes necessary.

A few weeks ago Panama’s foreign minister, Erika Mouynes, warned that there are more than 65,000 mostly Haitian illegal aliens ready to head north through Latin America. Since January, more than 86,000 migrants who arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border went through Panama, according to Mouynes. β€œWe have been sounding the alarm for months about this,” the Panamanian official said in a Spanish news article published on September 29, adding that the numbers indicate migration will increase.

Only 22% of Minnesotans think critical race theory should be taught in public schools, according to a new Center of the American Experiment poll.

 

The poll found that only 33% of Minnesotans think critical race theory should be incorporated into the state’s social studies standards.

 

An overwhelming majority of Minnesotans (78%) don’t think companies should be allowed to fire an employee for their views on critical race theory.

 

Overall, Minnesotans trust parents the most to decide what gets taught to children in public schools. However, most Democrats (54%) trust teachers more than parents to make decisions about what children learn. Just 18% of Democrats think parents should be entrusted with these decisions.

George Floyd and Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd's death, worked together at a Minneapolis club as recently as last year, according to a report from local television station KSTP.

Maya Santamaria, former owner of El Nuevo Rodeo, said that both Floyd and Chauvin worked security at the club. She said that the two could have crossed paths, though Chauvin mostly worked outside as an off-duty officer, while Floyd primarily was inside as a bouncer. She wasn't sure if they knew each other.

"Chauvin was our off-duty police for almost the entirety of the 17 years that we were open," Santamaria told KSTP. "They were working together at the same time, it's just that Chauvin worked outside and the security guards were inside."

Santamaria also told the TV station that Chauvin "had a real short fuse," adding that he often pulled out mace and pepper spray when she thought it was unwarranted.

Earlier Friday, Santamaria took to Facebook to lament the burning down of the building that houses the local Spanish-language radio station La Raza. Santamaria is listed as the CEO of the radio station, which appears to be in the same building as El Nuevo Rodeo.

The building that housed La Raza and El Nuevo Rodeo is a couple of blocks away from a Target store protesters looted earlier this week.

"Such sad news to wake up and know that all your business and work was destroyed by the vandalizers," Santamaria wrote in Spanish in a Facebook post. "We didn't manage to rescue anything. My heart is in mourning today."

NPR has tried to reach Santamaria by phone, email and Facebook but has not received a response.

The leftist governor claims that the three GOP-backed bills would make it more difficult for individuals without state IDs to vote in elections. She also contends that most of those affected are people of color.

 

β€œThese bills would disproportionately harm communities of color. … Non-white voters were about five times more likely to lack access to ID on election day than white voters,” Whitmer wrote in a letter sent to the state Senate on Friday. β€œVoter restrictions that produce such a racially disparate impact must never become law in this state.”

 

Senate Bill 303 eliminates the option for those who do not have identification to submit an affidavit in order to vote which many assert opens the door to voter fraud.

 

β€œThere is no evidence that use of affidavit ballots is related to voter fraud,” Whitmer remarked in her letter. β€œYet this voting restriction would disenfranchise the more than 18,000 voters who relied on the affidavit ballot in recent elections.”

 

Senate Bill 304 requires that voters using provisional ballots establish their identification within six days. Over 11,400 people in Michigan voted by provisional ballot in the 2020 election, according to the Associated Press.

 

House Bill 5007 eliminates certain fees that are related to obtaining an ID card. Those fees include a $10 fee for replacing or renewing a card. The fee is already waived for the elderly and those on welfare or disability.

 

Republicans and Democrats are massively at odds on the issue. Republicans assert that the bills would restore faith and trust in the electoral process. Democrats are siding with the governor and claim that they will harm minorities and other demographics.

 

β€œThis was an irresponsible and solely partisan response to common-sense legislation that would protect our democratic system and is widely supported by Michiganders of all political stripes,” stated Michigan GOP spokesman Gustavo Portela.

 

β€œProposal 3 made changes that weakened the integrity of our election system by allowing people to register and vote without ever being seen in-person,” Sen. Ruth Johnson, who is a former secretary of state, said in a statement slamming Whitmer’s vetoes.

 

β€œIt also allows people to register and vote on Election Day without showing an ID and with no real-time system to check if they are eligible or have voted in another location. In the November 2020 election, over 20,000 people registered to vote in the 14 days before or on Election Day without presenting a Michigan driver’s license or personal identification card,” she pointed out.

 

β€œThese bills are out of step with what we know Michigan voters want, a voting system that works for everyone,” Sharon Dolente, who is a senior adviser for the liberal ballot committee Promote the Vote, said. β€œMichigan law already requires voters to verify their identity prior to voting. These bills would impose a radically restrictive identity verification scheme rejected by 42 states.”

 

A conservative ballot committee called β€œSecure MI Vote” is circulating a petition that would circumvent Whitmer and her veto power. If the group is able to get 340,000 valid signatures within six months, the bills can be enacted by the GOP-controlled state legislature despite Whitmer’s pen.

 

β€œThe governor may have vetoed this bill now, but once we finish this process, she will not be able to stop these changes,” spokesman Jamie Roe vowed in a statement.

The Space Test and Training Range (STTR) is a space electronic warfare range controlled by the United States Space Force and is located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. The 25th Space Range Squadron and their reserve associate unit, the 379th Space Range Squadron operate and maintain the STTR.

Mission

The mission of the STTR is mainly operated out of the Space Range Operations Center (SROC) but the space range is also world-wide deployable. Currently, L3Harris is responsible for sustainment of the SROC.[1] The STTR's operating contractor is currently JT4 who also assists in operating the NTTR, the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR), and various other military ranges.[2]

 

The STTR has deployed equipment and personnel to support combatant commander operations and large force exercises such as Austere Challenge.[3][4]

 

History

The space range mission was conceived by Air Force Space Command in 2001 and the creation of the Space Range Management Office occurred shortly after.[5] On July 1, 2004, Air Force Space Command activated the 25th Space Control Tactics Squadron with a mission to develop and document space tactics, operate the Space Range and propagate approved tactics and space control employment concepts to warfighters. However, Nov. 11, 2007, the squadron was re-designated the 25th Space Range Squadron due to the focus shifting more to controlling the space range rather than developing tactics and techniques.[6] On April 1, 2012, the STTR gained its reserve component, the 379th Space Range Squadron. Both units are located at Schriever AFB and typically work jointly to complete their mission.[7] Then on April 1, 2013, the STTR was moved under Air Combat Command (ACC) as a subordinate mission to the NTTR.

 

On March 31, 2020, the United States Air Force announced it would transfer the 25th Space Range Squadron to the United States Space Force.[8]

I think it's more a need to disincentivize ambition and striving for success, perfection. Such misfits have always been able to stiff out and overturn a tyrannical kleptocracy. Quite dangerous.

 

Now, anyone can find the "truth" doing a google search on their smart phone. No sweat. Who needs tears of tedious advanced studies requiring a critical thought analysis of nature or human capabilities?

 

So, let's make being dumb and/or criminal profitable and having native intelligence punishable.

 

A free college education lacking introduction to research skill sets will give people the idea that their "smart" and that their ideas must mean something, while requiring that degree for any type of work keeps the colleges in business. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Easy peasy.

Not really though it raises my suspicions.

What I'm trying to say is that, whether talking about lotteries or elections, there may be reasonable doubt but there is no certainty until the proof comes out. Blanket statements like "lotteries are rigged" or "elections are rigged" are not enough to convince any significant majority not to play.

Have to agree about blanket statements. I'm reeling over the amount of fraud. I knew there was a percentage, dealt with a fair share but it was a minority, nothing would have caused me to think it was widespread.
