Italy Arrests 103 in Anti-Mafia Operations Across the Country

Italian authorities arrested 103 suspects in a sweeping anti-Mafia operation carried out last week across the country, the Italian state-run news service, ANSA reported.

“The suspects are accused of crimes including mafia association, criminal association for the sale of drugs, drug dealing, extortion, kidnapping and robbery,” the report said. “One of the biggest operations took place in Latina, a city between Naples and Rome, where restrictive measures were imposed on 33 people.”

A major agricultural center, Latina was reported to be the site of large scale Mafia-run farms, where enslaved or exploited immigrants work under inhumane conditions, according to an article published by the Nation Nigeria in September.

The outlet claimed that some 30,000 Sikh workers largely from India were found to be laboring under exploitative conditions on farms in the area, a recent investigation by Latina Police found, according to the outlet.

Other suspects were arrested in Catanzaro, L'Aquila, Salerno, Lecco, Terni, Taranto, Genoa and Vicenza.

The round up comes amidst one of the biggest anti-mafia trials in Italian history.

Some 325 suspected members of ‘Ndrangheta, Italy’s largest and most powerful organized crime syndicate, are being tried in what has been called a “maxi-trial,” reminiscent of the sweeping affairs of the 1980s and 90s which first cracked the power of Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian Mafia.

I'm for people making money, but God knows I'm all for you helping people who are in great need right now. The world is in trouble."

In response, Musk said he would liquidate $6 billion worth of Tesla stock to finance Beasley's request. However, Musk added that the U.N. would need to prove that every penny donated went toward feeding people.

Queensland's Health Minister says she is not concerned about widespread disruption in the state's hospital system after the suspension of thousands of health workers who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Virginia Democrats had filed a lawsuit against USPS complaining about a “delay” of 300,000 mail-in votes just days before election officials and mainstream media outlets began priming the public for a scenario in which the results of the gubernatorial election may not be decided on Election Day due to mail-in ballots.

The Elias Law Group, a firm recently hired by the Terry McAuliffe campaign headed by Clinton-allied attorney Marc Elias, filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Democratic Party of Virginia on Friday October 22 against the United States Postal Service (USPS) citing a “delay” of over 300 thousand mail-in ballots in the gubernatorial race.

We are not aware of any processing delays of any ballots within our facilities nor any ballot delivery delays, and we have fully communicated this information to election officials,” USPS public relations representative Martha Johnson told The Washington Times.

Just days after the lawsuit was filed, corporate media outlets and partisan election officials began priming Virginia voters for a post-Election Day debacle in which the winner of the race may be unknowable until the following Friday due to mail-in ballots.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg Launches Effort to Stop Coal Use in 25 Countries

Billionaire businessman and former US presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg launched new efforts to end the use of coal in 25 countries in an attempt to combat climate change and transition to clean energy, Bloomberg Philanthropies said in a statement on Monday.

“Over the last decade, Bloomberg Philanthropies has helped shut down two-thirds of coal-fired power plants in the US and half in Europe - and that work continues. But around the world, too many coal plants are driving climate change and making people sick, so we are expanding our efforts to 25 more countries and setting an ambitious new goal: working to close a quarter of the world’s coal plants by 2025 and cancel all proposed coal plants by that year, too,” the statement said.

The proposed campaign would work to close one-quarter of the world’s 2,445 remaining coal plants and stop all 519 proposed ones by 2025, the statement said.

The announcement came at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, where the world leaders are currently meeting to discuss the international climate agenda.

Bloomberg Philanthropies will try to help end coal power and enable clean energy transition by convening private companies, public sector entities, philanthropy and non-governmental organizations to deliver a whole-of-society response, the statement said.
